Near Kayla Kleine’s house lives a family of bears and she knows them quite well. That said, they had never successfully gotten inside before... until now. While one bear was secretly eating some dog food in the yard, Kayla was listening to some light music and preparing to go out for the day. That’s why minutes passed before she came to realize the bear’s presence.
Kayla’s dog, a Pomeranian, won’t be kind to anyone eating up his food. So, as soon as the 5-month-old dog noticed the bear, he didn’t hesitate (犹豫) to tell him off. In fact, it was the dog’s trying to drive it away that made Kayla find what was going on. While we should never put our dog in a dangerous situation like this, sometimes things happen that are out of our control. Although Kayla was worried about her beloved pet, she found that he had the situation entirely under control.
Kayla stood still for a moment, completely surprised at what she’d just seen — her tiny Pomeranian’s fearlessly running after a full-grown bear. She quickly picked up her phone, hands still a little shaky, and hit record, eager (急切的) to take down the unbelievable scene. After making sure the bear had left the yard and her dog was safe, she decided to share the video online, never expecting how much attention it would get. In just a short time, the video spread like wildfire, being shared and commented (评论) on by thousands of people, turning into a hit overnight.
“Poor bear, nearly lost its life to a dog,” someone shares in reply to Kayla’s video. Others add. “The dog has no idea that he’s smaller than the bear” and “Does either one of them know what type of animal they are?”
24. Why didn’t Kayla notice the bear immediately?
A. The bear was small in size. B. The dog failed to warn her.
C. She was busy with other things. D. She was playing with her Pomeranian.
25 What can be learned from paragraph 2?
A. The dog’s goal was to protect his food.
B. The dog had been trained for dangerous situations.
C. The dog thought for some time before taking action.
D. The bear’s weaknesses were made full use of by the dog.
26. Why did Kayla post the video online?
A. To attract attention. B. To deal with trouble.
C. To call for protection for bears. D. To remember the moment.
27. How do the comments sound?
A. Worried. B. Humorous. C. Honest. D. Encouraging.

In today’s world of fast-paced games and short videos, people are spending less and less time on things. For example, research has shown that the average visitor spends just 15 seconds on a website before moving on to other things. But the Internet is a huge and busy place, with millions of sites to choose from. You might expect people to slow down a bit more when they’re in museums full of great works of art. But you’d be wrong.
Several studies have shown that the amount of time for people to spend looking at a piece of art is ten seconds. Many people may spend more time, but not much more — the average is about 28 seconds. At the Tate Modern Museum in London, it’s even worse. People there spend an average of just eight seconds on each artwork. And in that short period of time, the visitors are also managing to do another important thing — take selfies !
In recent years museums have been working to change this behavior. Today, over 170 museums around the world are celebrating “Slow Art Day”. They are asking their visitors to spend at least 5-10 minutes looking at just one work of art. Slow Art supporters believe that when visitors spend more time looking at and studying the work of art, they admire it more. Studying a work of art for more time can also help people get a better understanding of the artist’s ideas and what the artist went through to create the work.
Most of the museums taking part in Slow Art Day are choosing just a few works for their visitors to see. Some of the museums are offering chances for visitors to talk about the artworks and share their ideas.
28. Generally speaking, people spend ______ on each piece of art in a museum.
A. 8 seconds B. 28 seconds C. 15 seconds D. 10 seconds
29. What do the underlined words “this behavior” refer to?
A. Admiring each artwork thoroughly. B. Taking selfies in museums busily.
C. Celebrating “Slow Art Day” widely. D. Looking at each artwork hurriedly.
30. Why is “Slow Art Day” created?
A. To make people spend more time on each artwork
B. To stop visitors from taking selfies inside
C. To attract more people to visit the museums
D. To give visitors an opportunity to relax themselves
31. Which of the following can be the best title of this passage?
A. Museums: Slow down to Admire more! B. Museums on the Rocks: Please Advise!
C. Slow Art Day: a Fruit of Museums! D. Museums: an Escape from the Fast-paced Life!
D
ChatGPT, a smart AI chat-bot tool, has swept the education world in the past months. According to a US survey of more than 1,000 students, over 89 percent of them have used ChatGPT to help with a homework task.
Developed by US company OpenAI, ChatGPT is a powerful tool. You can ask it to write stories and emails, create a food menu (食谱), translate languages, and answer all kinds of questions.
Some schools in the US. Australia and France have banned (禁止) the use of ChatGPT. In the US, for example, New York City public schools banned students and teachers from using ChatGPT on the district’s networks and devices (设备), CNN reported.
The move comes out of worries that the tool could make it easier for students to cheat (作弊) on study. Some also worry that ChatGPT could be used to spread wrong information.
“It does not build critical-thinking (批判性思维) and problem-solving skills, which are necessary for academic (学术) and lifelong success,” said Jenna Lyle, the deputy press secretary of the New York City Department of Education.
Apart from bans, teachers are making changes to their classes to stop the use of ChatGPT. Some college teachers in the US try to include more speaking exams and handwritten papers instead of typed ones, The New York Times reported.
However, not all educators say “no”to ChatGPT. Some Canadian universities are drafting (起草) policies (政策) on its use, for both students and teachers. They have no plans to completely ban the tool so far.
Bhaskar Vira, headmaster for education at the University of Cambridge in the UK, said that bans on AI software like ChatGPT are not wise. “We have to know that AI is a tool people will use,” he told Varsity, the school newspaper of the university. What we need to do is “adapt (调整) our learning, teaching and examinations”. That way, we can “have integrity (诚信) while recognizing the use of the tool”.
32. Some schools in the US banned the use of ChatGPT because____________.
A. it probably takes the place of teachers
B. students may use it to cheat on homework
C. it rarely provides the correct information
D. it takes up most of the district’s networks
33. Jenna Lyle thinks that___________.
A. ChatGPT is necessary for academic and lifelong success
B. using ChatGPT is not good for developing students’ minds
C. ChatGPT is so far the smartest AI chat-bot tool
D. ChatGPT might offer the wrong information
34. Which opinion is NOT mentioned in the story?
A. Using ChatGPT makes students lazy in thinking.
B. The complete ban on using ChatGPT is not wise.
C. ChatGPT will completely change present education.
D. ChatGPT may be used for both teachers and students.
35. The passage is probably from “____________”.

M: Three.
W: There’s a lot of information, but we only have eight minutes.
M: I think we can organize the whole presentation.
W: Should we start by showing that bees are an important natural resource? They help plants reproduce. Without bees, a lot of crops would be more expensive to grow.
M: Let’s make that clear so people understand why we all need bees.
W: Now, I found a report that says a lot of bees are dying right now. The report has a lot of statistics about population numbers. Should we use that?
M: Well, I’m worried those statistics might be confusing. Mr. Lee said we have to show that we’ve done some research, and that’s important for our grades.
W: OK. Maybe we could just put some of the statistics in a diagram.
M: Let’s do that. And we could show some photos of bees.
W: Good idea.
M: So for the last part, I made a list of what people can do to help bees.

Kayla’s dog a Pomeranian, won’t be kind to anyone eating up his food.
25. What can be learned from paragraph 2?
C 25. A 26. D 27. B
根据第一段中“While one bear was secretly eating some dog food in the yard, Kayla was listening to some light music and preparing to go out for the day. That’s why minutes passed before she came to realize the bear’s presence. (当一只熊在院子里偷偷吃着狗粮时,Kayla正听着轻音乐,准备出门。这就是为什么几分钟后她才意识到熊的存在。)”可知,Kayla没有立刻注意到熊是因为她当时正忙着做其他事情。故选C项。
【25题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段中“Kayla’s dog, a Pomeranian, won’t be kind to anyone eating up his food. So, as soon as the 5-month-old dog noticed the bear, he didn’t hesitate (犹豫) to tell him off. In fact, it was the dog’s trying to drive it away that made Kayla find what was going on. (Kayla的狗是一只博美犬,它不会对吃它的食物的人友好。所以,当这只5个月大的小狗一发现熊,就毫不犹豫地训斥了它。事实上,正是狗试图把它赶走,才让Kayla发现了发生了什么。)”可知,小狗的目标是保护它的食物。故选A项。
根据第三段中“After making sure the bear had left the yard and her dog was safe, she decided to share the video online, never expecting how much attention it would get. (在确认熊已经离开院子,她的狗安全后,她决定在网上分享这段视频,从未想过会得到这么多关注。)”可知,Kayla拍下视频是为了记录这个时刻,随后分享到网上,并非是为了吸引关注、处理麻烦或呼吁保护熊。故选D项。
27题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段中““Poor bear, nearly lost its life to a dog,” someone shares in reply to Kayla’s video. Others add. “The dog has no idea that he’s smaller than the bear” and “Does either one of them know what type of animal they are?” (“可怜的熊,差点被狗弄死,”有人在回复Kayla的视频时分享道。其他人补充道。“这只狗不知道它比熊小”和“它们知道自己是什么动物吗?”)”可知,这些评论以幽默的方式调侃了熊和狗的行为。故选B项。
C
D 29. D 30. A 31. A
根据第二段中“Several studies have shown that the amount of time for people to spend looking at a piece of art is ten seconds. Many people may spend more time, but not much more — the average is about 28 seconds.(几项研究表明,人们花在观看一件艺术品上的时间是10秒钟。许多人可能会花更多的时间,但不会更多——平均约为28秒)”可知,研究表明人们看一件艺术品的平均时间是10秒,虽然后文提到某些博物馆的平均时间更短或更长,但题干问的是generally speaking,因此以研究数据为准。故选D。
【29题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第二段“Several studies have shown that the amount of time for people to spend looking at a piece of art is ten seconds. Many people may spend more time, but not much more — the average is about 28 seconds. At the Tate Modern Museum in London, it’s even worse. People there spend an average of just eight seconds on each artwork. And in that short period of time, the visitors are also managing to do another important thing — take selfies !(一些研究表明,人们花在欣赏一件艺术品上的时间是十秒钟。
根据第三段中“Today, over 170 museums around the world are celebrating “Slow Art Day”. They are asking their visitors to spend at least 5-10 minutes looking at just one work of art. (今天,全世界170多家博物馆正在庆祝“慢艺术日”。他们要求参观者至少花5-10分钟的时间来欣赏一件艺术品)”,结合第二段提到的人们现在平均花费28秒欣赏艺术作品可知,“慢艺术日”要求参观者至少花5-10分钟的时间来欣赏一件艺术品,由此可推知,设立“慢艺术日”是为了让人们花更多的时间在每一件艺术品上。故选A。
通读全文,尤其是第二段中“Several studies have shown that the amount of time for people to spend looking at a piece of art is ten seconds. Many people may spend more time, but not much more — the average is about 28 seconds. ( 一些研究表明,人们花在欣赏一件艺术品上的时间是十秒钟。许多人可能会花费更多的时间,但不会多很多——平均时间约为28秒)”和第三段中“In recent years museums have been working to change this behavior. Today, over 170 museums around the world are celebrating “Slow Art Day”. They are asking their visitors to spend at least 5-10 minutes looking at just one work of art.(近年来,博物馆一直在努力改变这种行为。今天,全世界170多家博物馆正在庆祝“慢艺术日”。他们要求参观者至少花5-10分钟的时间来欣赏一件艺术品)”可知,如今人们花在欣赏一件艺术品上的时间很短,所以博物馆正在努力改变这种行为。全世界170多家博物馆正在庆祝“慢艺术日”,他们要求参观者至少花5-10分钟的时间来欣赏一件艺术品。由此可知,A项“博物馆:慢下来欣赏更多!”适合做文章标题。故选B。

“It does not build critical-thinking (批判性思维) and problem-solving skills, which are necessary for academic (学术的) and lifelong success,” said Jenna Lyle, the deputy press secretary of the New York City Department of Education.
A. Sports and Fitness B. Health and Diet
C. Cultural Exchange D. Science and Education
B 33. B 34. C 35. D
