How might you deal with your luggage while visiting? A. Take it with you during the visit. B. Store it at Smith Campus Center. C. Ask the admissions officer to keep it. D. Leave it at Harvard Information Center. 23. Where can we probably find this text? A. In a travel journal. B. In an admission letter. C. On a university website. D. In a housing contract. B “Lei ming m ming baak ngo gong ge waa ah? Do you understand what I am saying?” I stare back at the speaker dumbly, my lips parted, the ideas clear in my mind but a response unable to express itself in a language in my distant range. After an uncomfortable pause, a bunch of words spill out of my mouth, sounding forced and unnatural. The anecdote (轶事) above is a semi-conversation I had in Malaysia years ago. A three-week stay in Malaysia once every few years was often the highlight of my summers — what more can you ask from a food paradise? But besides the family, food, and escape that Malaysia offered, trips also brought accompanying feelings of guilt that I just couldn’t seem to translate. For one month every few summers, I got a taste of what it feels to be an outsider in my own culture, peering in. I was a girl lost in translation, passively absorbing the various tongues shouted between the stalls (摊位) in the wet markets, quietly nodding (点头) along at my grandparents’ huge family dinners. In America though, I am a different person. I don’t think twice about my grammar when speaking. I don’t struggle with the words and fear that my logic and stories won’t get through to people. So as a native English speaker, I do not have to worry daily about whether I’m judged for having an accent or whether I’m misunderstood across languages. In Malaysia, I naturally burst out “have you eaten?” instead of recalling the Malaysian words “you makan already?” In Malaysia, everything about the way I speak — my accent, intonation (语调), sentence structure, slang (俚语) — gives me away. My American-ness is seen in the way I talk, dress, and act. Maybe my face could pass for a Malaysian local, but once I open my mouth to speak I am so clearly not. It is uncomfortable and awkward, and sometimes I wonder if I did not look Asian at all would it be better, since there would be no more language expectation for me than for a white tourist. 24. How did the author feel in the anecdote? A. Confused and scared. B. Embarrassed and uncomfortable. C. Curious and surprised. D. Upset and puzzled. 25. Why did the author feel guilt according to Paragraph 2? A Because she had to stay away from her family B. Because she didn’t enjoy speaking the language C. Because she had to accept what grandparents said D. Because she found it hard to understand the culture. 26. What can we infer from the last paragraph? A. The author avoids speaking in Malaysia. B. The author feels trapped by language. C. The author prefers American identity. D. The author’s face causes confusion. 27. What does the text mainly talk about? A. Food culture in Malaysia. B. A girl between two cultures. C. Challenges from learning Malay language. D. Differences between American and Malaysian cultures. C “My favorite thing about hiking is that I get to work out my legs,” said Skylar, a six-year-old camper. “And I get to see the view!” Skylar is one of twenty kids participating in the week-long Gross Out Camp, a summer program hosted at parks and outdoor spaces across Alabama. “This is kids’ natural habitat out here in the woods,” said Verna Gates, who started Gross Out Camp 14 years ago. As schools begin again across Alabama, most students are returning to days spent in indoor classrooms, but some will continue to learn and play outside, even while at school. It’s part of a growing movement to teach kids in nature and help them connect with their environment. In recent years, at least three nature preschools, or forest schools, have been opened across Alabama. They operate almost entirely outside. In these forest schools, students gain knowledge from every activity. The class might discover a turtle walking along the forest floor at the Kreher Preserve Nature Center, where the school is located. That offers an opportunity for students to talk about the animal’s shape and color, and write about their discovery. After starting Woodland Wonders in 2019, Gates said word spread quickly. The school has since added classes and programs for older kids, but they can’t keep up with demand. It’s a similar case at Little Mountain Forest School, where kids learn and play at Monte Sano State Park. Co-founder Beth Barry said that both kids and parents love the natural space. Fellow co-founder and co-director Sarah Callaway said the most common question is about the weather. They spend a lot of time reviewing proper clothing, because students are outside rain or shine. “As a forest school parent, it can be a pain in the behind to have to deal with your muddy and wet kid,” Callaway said. “But the kids love it. Those are some of the best days.” 28. What can we learn about the summer program Gross Out Camp? A. It’s for outdoor lovers in Alabama. B. It’s for kids to learn about the environment. C. It’s for students to protect habitats. D. It’s for kids to participate in outdoor activities. 29. What is the main focus of forest schools in Alabama? A. Teaching kids about the weather and proper clothing. B. Providing opportunities for outdoor play and learning. C. Offering programs to older kids in the natural space. D. Creating an environment for kids to make friends. 30. What is the parents’ attitude to Woodland Wonders? A. Indifferent. B. Doubtful. C. Supportive. D. Unclear. 31. Which can be a suitable title for the text? A. Hiking: The Best Way to Exercise B. Wood Wonders: Travel in Forests C. Forest Schools: Learn in Nature D. Indoor Lessons: A Thing of the Past D Virtue (美德), by definition, is the moral excellence of a person. Morally excellent people have a character made up of virtues valued as good. They are honest, respectful, courageous, forgiving and kind, for example. They do the right thing, and don’t bend to impulses (冲动), urges or desires, but act according to values and principles. Some might say good qualities are inborn. Actually, virtues need to be developed. With the habit of being virtuous, we can take control of our lives and move them in the direction of greater happiness and fulfillment (满足). Virtues are universal and recognized by all cultures as basic qualities of well-being. However, practicing virtues is not easy. So often we know that it takes willpower to reach our goals, but we still never get there. We know that if we forgive, we’ll be less angry. We know it takes courage to accomplish great things. So why then, if we know what to do, are we still stuck? Because we have not yet consciously applied a virtue to a given situation so as to change its outcome such as in these examples: kindness towards someone who is having a bad day can make him or her smile and build rapport; trust in a relationship creates valuable, meaningful relationships; gratitude in a job loss can shift our focus from feeling low to how we can have a more fulfilling, new career; service to others can change lives, better neighborhoods and create stronger nations. We know we are becoming more virtuous people, not only because of the above results but also because of the way other people respond to us. Our friends, family, co-workers, and neighbors will trust and rely on us. They will come to us for guidance and help. They will want to be around us because we inspire them to be better people. Practicing virtues allows us to develop our potential, and live a more purposeful and better life. 32. What can we know about virtuous people from the first paragraph? A. They are born with virtue. B. They never make a mistake. C. They have a habit of doing good. D. They act according to their desires. 33. What is the second paragraph mainly about? A. It’s hard to practice virtues. B. It’s a virtue to forgive others. C. It takes courage to achieve goals. D. Trust is necessary in a relationship. 34 What does the underlined word “rapport” mean in the third paragraph? A. A friendly greeting. B. A great discussion. C. A good goodbye. D. A close relationship. 35. What is the author’s purpose in the last paragraph? A. To encourage readers to be more virtuous. B. To remind readers of living a purposeful life. C. To explain how to become virtuous. D. To introduce the feature of virtuous people. If sports are something that interests you, it stands to reason that you would want to be good at them. However, there are other things you need to think about if you want to be a good sports player. ____36____. It’s a common mistake for young athletes to want to jump into the advanced stuff quickly. This isn’t an effective way to spend training time. You need a firm basis before you move on to bigger things. If you’re new to a sport, take as much time as you need to get the basic movements down properly. ____37____. Get enough sleep. This one should come as obvious. This is especially true during times of intense practice or training, where things get so busy that it becomes hard to push everything into a regular day. However, your body needs its full rest. ____38____. If you’re an adult, get 7-9 hours of sleep each night. Set ambitious but realistic goals for yourself. Setting ambitious goals does not mean being unrealistic, or saying you’re going to go professional within a year. ____39____, and figure out where you think you would like to be. Give yourself a suitable amount of time to achieve that goal, and break it down into smaller parts if the goal is especially big. Stay focused on the game. You won’t get anywhere if you’re worried about something else happening in your life. Life is always complex, and there may be things in your personal life that are bothering you. However, at least for the course of the game, you can’t let any of that stuff get to you.____40____. But if winning the game means a lot to you, then you should keep your eyes on the prize. A. Put basics first B. Let yourself have fun C. It may be easier said than done D. Instead, you should take a look at what you are E. This is especially true if you want to be a great coach F. If you’re a teen, you should sleep 8-10 hours each night G. It’s October 24th, and there’s a week to enjoy my holiday. I have to book a hotel today. What does it say about shopping? M: They say it’s a great place to buy wood carvings and paintings. W: Well, if the time permits, I’ll go there to have a look. And is there any mention of tours? M: Yes, it says there is a fascinating tour to a volcano just out of Jakarta. W: Well, I’ll be sure to go there. I’m looking forward to seeing the volcano for myself. 13. What are the speakers going to do tomorrow? A. Go camping. B. Go hiking. C 22. A 23. 根据Registration部分的 “Registration for a campus visit is required.(参观校园需要注册。)”及“We cannot receive you without registration.(没有登记我们不能接待你。)” Important information for your visit部分中第三个黑点的“At this time, it is not possible to store luggage or other personal property during your visit.(在此期间,您不可以寄存行李或其他个人财产。)” 故选A。 根据本文内容:介绍了参观哈佛大学校园的注意事项以及第一段中的“Please note that the visit schedule is typically posted one month prior to each term and you can select an available date from the calendar at the bottom of the page.(请注意,访问时间表通常在每个学期前一个月发布,您可以从页面底部的日历中选择一个可用的日期。)” B “Lei ming m ming baak ngo gong ge waa ah? A. Because she had to stay away from her family B. B 25. D 26. B 27. 根据文章第一段中的“I stare back at the speaker dumbly, my lips parted, the ideas clear in my mind but a response unable to express itself in a language in my distant range. After an uncomfortable pause, a bunch of words spill out of my mouth, sounding forced and unnatural.(我呆呆地回望着说话者,嘴巴张开,脑海中那些想法清晰无比,但我的语言却无法表达出任何回应,因为它们超出了我所掌握的语言范畴。一阵尴尬的沉默过后,我结结巴巴地说出了几句话语,听起来显得很生硬、不自然。)”可知,作者无法用对方使用的语言表达自己的想法,感到非常不自在,并且说话时感觉不自然。因此,作者在轶事中感到尴尬和不自在。故选B项。 【25题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第二段中的“But besides the family, food, and escape that Malaysia offered, trips also brought accompanying feelings of guilt that I just couldn’t seem to translate. For one month every few summers, I got a taste of what it feels to be an outsider in my own culture, peering in.(但除了马来西亚带来的亲情、美食与(逃离日常的)喘息之外,这些旅程还伴随着一种我似乎无法言说的愧疚感。每隔几年夏天,总有那么一个月,我体会到身处自己的文化中却像个局外人、只能远远观望的滋味。)”可知,作者在马来西亚时感到自己是自己文化的外来者,无法完全融入当地文化,这种感觉让她感到内疚。所以作者感到内疚是因为她难以理解自身所属的文化。故选D项。 【26题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章最后一段中的“In Malaysia, everything about the way I speak — my accent, intonation, sentence structure, slang — gives me away. My American-ness is seen in the way I talk, dress, and act. Maybe my face could pass for a Malaysian local, but once I open my mouth to speak I am so clearly not. It is uncomfortable and awkward, and sometimes I wonder if I did not look Asian at all would it be better, since there would be no more language expectation for me than for a white tourist.(在马来西亚,我说话的方式——我的口音、语调、句子结构和俚语——都暴露了我的身份。 B选项“A girl between two cultures.(一个处于两种文化之间的女孩。)” C “My favorite thing about hiking is that I get to work out my legs,” said Skylar, a six-year-old camper. Indoor Lessons: A Thing of the Past 【答案】28. D 29. B 30. C 31. 根据第一段中“Skylar is one of twenty kids participating in the week-long Gross Out Camp, a summer program hosted at parks and outdoor spaces across Alabama.(Skylar是参加为期一周的Gross Out夏令营的20个孩子之一,该夏令营在阿拉巴马州各地的公园和户外空间举办)”可知,Gross Out夏令营是一个供孩子们参加户外活动的项目。 根据第三段中“In recent years, at least three nature preschools, or forest schools, have been opened across Alabama. They operate almost entirely outside. In these forest schools, students gain knowledge from every activity.(近年来,阿拉巴马州至少开设了三所自然幼儿园或森林学校。它们几乎完全在户外运作。在这些森林学校里,学生们从每一项活动中获取知识)”可知,阿拉巴马州森林学校的主要关注点是提供户外玩耍和学习的机会。故选B项。 【30题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段中“After starting Woodland Wonders in 2019, Gates said word spread quickly. The school has since added classes and programs for older kids, but they can’t keep up with demand.(2019年创办Woodland Wonders后,Gates说消息传得很快。 D Virtue (美德), by definition, is the moral excellence of a person. C They have a habit of doing good. C 33. A 34. D 35. 根据第一段“They do the right thing, and don’t bend to impulses (冲动), urges or desires, but act according to values and principles.(他们做的是正确的事,不会受冲动、欲望或需求的驱使,而是依据价值观和原则行事。)”以及“With the habit of being virtuous, we can take control of our lives and move them in the direction of greater happiness and fulfillment (满足).(养成善良的习惯后,我们就能掌控自己的生活,并将其引向更加幸福和满足的方向。)” 通读全段,并根据“Virtues are universal and recognized by all cultures as basic qualities of well-being. However, practicing virtues is not easy.(美德是普遍存在的,并且在所有文化中都被视为实现幸福的基本要素。然而,践行美德并非易事。)”可知,本段主要陈述践行美德并非易。故选A。 根据第三段划线词所在的句子“Because we have not yet consciously applied a virtue to a given situation so as to change its outcome such as in these examples: kindness towards someone who is having a bad day can make him or her smile and build rapport(因为我们尚未有意识地将某种美德应用于特定情境中,以改变其结果,比如在以下这些例子中:对心情不佳的人表现出友善,能够让他或她露出笑容并增进rapport。)” 根据最后一段中“We know we are becoming more virtuous people, not only because of the above results but also because of the way other people respond to us. Our friends, family, co-workers, and neighbors will trust and rely on us. They will come to us for guidance and help. They will want to be around us because we inspire them to be better people. Practicing virtues allows us to develop our potential, and live a more purposeful and better life.( 我们深知自己正在变得越来越有道德品质,这不仅是因为上述种种结果,还因为他人对我们的反应方式。我们的朋友、家人、同事和邻居会信任并依赖我们。他们会向我们寻求指导和帮助。他们会因为我们的影响而愿意与我们待在一起,因为他们希望成为更好的人。践行美德能让我们发挥自身潜力,过上更有目标、更美好的生活。)”可知,我们因践行美德带来诸多好的结果如朋友、家人等的信任和依靠,让我们发展潜能,过上更有目的、更好的生活。因此最后一段的目的是鼓励读者践行美德,变得更优秀。故选A。 If sports are something that interests you, it stands to reason that you would want to be good at them. It will make advanced skills a lot easier to master in the long run 【答案】36. A 37. G 38. F 39. D 40. 【36题详解】 空处为本段的标题,根据下文“It’s a common mistake for young athletes to want to jump into the advanced stuff quickly.
