B Michael Yellow-lees set off to complete a 5,000-mile walk across Canada in the spring of 2021, wearing a kilt(短褶裙)and carrying a few items in a handcart, including a guitar. The 32-year-old musician from Dunked, Scotland, walked from the shores of the Pacific Occam to the cast coast of Newfoundland on the edge of the North Atlantic with his pet dog, Luna, an Alaskan husky, by his side. Speaking about the Scottish Highlands, Mr.Yellow-lees said,“It is a beautiful landscape, but with a strong sense of sadness because of the absence of woodland, wildlife and people. So I decided to walk across the great wildernesses of Canada to raise funds for Trees for Life, a Scottish rewinding charity, and its work to restore(恢复)Scotland’s Caledonian Forest.” The enthusiastic walker shared some of his experiences, including meeting black bears and hearing wolves cry loudly at night. He also mentioned a moment when he lost Luna after she jumped out of a little boat during a trip in the waterway section of the Trans Canada Trail in Nor-them Ontario. Yet Mr Yellow-lees was deeply touched by the warmth of the people along the way. In every town and village, people offered him food, shelter and donations. And he was accompanied into towns and cities by marching pipe bands and interviewed by newspapers, the radio and TV. Steve Mickie wright, chief executive officer of Trees for Life, said, “We followed Michael’s journey across Canada with respect and admiration. Restoring native habitats and wildlife to the Highlands is a big task that no one can do alone. But Michael’s extraordinary journey is proof that an individual can really make a difference.” Bob Davidson, one of Michael Yellow-lees’ friends, said, “This is not a slow walk in the park, but a long march with heavy equipment on the rough road at an incredible pace. He’s an amazing guy.” 4. What do we know about Scottish Highlands from the passage? A. It is located in the east coast of Britain. B. It is a beautiful landscape but full of sorrows. C. Imagine how you would feel when looking at Earth from outer space. That feeling of awe is what we call the Overview Effect a feeling most astronauts report when they return to Earth, described as a transformative experience that changes their view of our planet and humanity — an experience that builds a sense of unity, interconnectedness, and responsibility for Earth’s well-being. Recently, 40,000 children experienced a virtual reality (VR) space journey, becoming a unique group to have a chance to undergo this awesome feeling without leaving Earth. To find out whether they had experienced the Overview Effect, we asked 100 children from this special group to draw self-images before and after the VR journey. In previous studies on adults, we found that after viewing a video to bring about the Overview Effect, participants tended to draw a smaller self. Apparently, going through the experience of awe and wonder makes one feel smaller, with a smaller drawing as the result. However, when we applied this method to children, we encountered unexpected results. The size of their drawings remained unchanged after the VR experience. This discrepancy led us to question: Were drawings by children simply not a good way to measure the Overview Effect? Did what worked for adults simply not work for children? Upon closer analysis, we discovered that the key to measuring transformative experiences in children lies mot in the size of their drawings but in the richness of their content. Before the VR journey, the children’s drawings were simple, often showing familiar elements from their daily lives. After the journey, their drawings became far more insightful, filled with vivid descriptions indicative of what they had learned during the VR journey — for example, the Earth’s ecology. This discovery gave us a new way to understand children’s responses to transformative experiences. I’m not proposing that we replace tests in schools with children’s drawings. But when it comes to transformative experiences, I’d recommend paying more attention to what children actually draw. 8. How can we describe the Overview Effect? A. It expresses man’s view of Earth and humanity. B. It helps people get deeper insights into the world. C. It brings about awesome feelings of the outer space. D. It is a transformative experience unique to astronauts. 9. What does the underlined word “discrepancy” mean in paragraph 3? A. Problem. B. Progress. C. Doubt. D. Difference. 10. How did the children’s drawings change after the VR journey? A. The self-images became larger. B. They described more details. C. There were more familiar elements. D. They expressed richer emotions. 11. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text? A. To suggest a way of measuring children’s learning. B. To compare adults’ and children’s Overview Effect. C. To analyse the role of VR technology in child education. D. To describe the psychological experience of space travels. D With its silicone (硅酮) skin and blue color, Emo the robot looks more like a mechanical recreation of the Blue Man Group than a regular human. Until it smiles back at you. Right now in most humanoid robots, there’s a noticeable delay before they can smile back at a person, often because the robots are copying a person’s face in real time. “I think a lot of people interacting with a social robot for the first time are disappointed,” says Chaona Chen, a human-robot interaction researcher. “Improving robots’ expression in real time is important.” To train Emo, the researchers first put it in front of a camera for a few hours. Like looking in a mirror would do for humans and their muscles, looking at itself in the camera while researchers ran random motor commands helped Emo learn the relationships between activating motors in its face and the expressions it created. Next, the researchers played videos of humans making facial expressions. By analyzing nearly 800 videos, Emo could learn what muscle movement indicated which expressions were about to occur. In thousands of further tests, the robot could correctly predict what facial expression a human would make and re-create it in step with the human more than 70 percent of the time. The robot’s timely smiles could relieve some of the awkward feelings that delayed reactions in robots can cause. Emo’s blue skin, too, was designed to avoid the strange valley effect. If people think a robot is supposed to look like a human, “then they will always find some difference or become skeptical,” says Yuhang Hu, co-creator of Emo. Instead, with Emo’s rubbery blue face, people can “think about it as a new species. It doesn’t have to be a real person.” The robot has no voice right now, but integrating generative AI chatbot features, like those of ChatGPT, into Emo could enable it to predict facial reactions from words in addition to human muscle movement. Once the robot could respond with words, it could be a better companion. “Maybe when I’m working at midnight, we can complain to each other about why there’s so much work or tell a few jokes,” says Hu. 12. What is the limitation of most current humanoid robots? A. They can’t read facial expressions. B. They can’t interact with humans. C. They can’t give back a timely expression. D. They don’t look like real human beings. 13. What is paragraph 3 mainly about? A. How Emo got its smile. B. Where Emo can work. C. Why smiling matters for robots. D. What challenges the team faced. 14. Why does Emo have blue skin? A. To reduce its delayed reactions. B. To set it apart from other robots. C. To provide a sense of relaxation. D. To ease discomfort for people. 15. What can be expected of Emo in the future? A. To assess work-related stress. B. To engage in friendly chats. C. To conduct lab experiments. D. To speed up workplace automation. 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 How to overcome travel anxiety Stress and anxiety around documents and procedures of travel is common. With a heart full of dreams and a little bit of nervousness, he flew to the United Kingdom to start a new adventure. He had always imagined what it would be like to walk through the historic streets of England and meet people from different parts of the world. But as soon as he arrived at his new school, he felt a little unsure. In his new class, Li Ming struggled to start conversations with his British classmates. They spoke so quickly and used words and phrases he didn't understand. When he tried to join their conversations, he felt shy about his accent and worried that he might say something wrong. He also noticed that British students seemed to value their personal space more than he was used to, which made it even harder for him to find the right moment to start a meaningful talk. Group work was even harder. During a group project in literature class, Li Ming had trouble explaining his ideas clearly, feeling like his ideas were getting lost in translation. And he started to doubt himself. Social events outside of class were just as difficult. At a school party, Li Ming watched his classmates laugh, dance, and sing along to the latest pop songs. He felt left out, not knowing the songs or the dance moves. He wanted to join the fun, but the fear of looking silly kept him on the sidelines. One day, the school announced a talent show, Li Ming, who practiced traditional Chinese kung fu, really wanted to try. While he was hesitating, a group of British students interested in cultural performances invited him to join them. Li Ming agreed. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150个左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 During their practice, the group was amazed by Li Ming’s Chinese kung fu. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ After the show, Li Ming noticed some changes happening. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 南康中学2025~2026学年度第一学期高二第一次大考 英语试卷 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话。每段对话后有一个小题,从题中所给的A、B、C三个选项中选出最佳选项。听完每段对话后,你将有10秒钟的时间来回答有关小题和阅读下一小题。每段对话仅读一遍。 1. Imagine how you would feel when looking at Earth from outer space. That feeling of awe is what we call the Overview Effect, a feeling most astronauts report when they return to Earth, described as a transformative experience that changes their view of our planet and humanity — an experience that builds a sense of unity, interconnectedness, and responsibility for Earth’s well-being. 【答案】8. B 9. D 10. B 11. The size of their drawings remained unchanged after the VR experience.(然而,当我们将这种方法应用到孩子身上时,却得到了意想不到的结果。VR体验后,他们画作的大小并没有变化)”可知,成年人画的和孩子画的存在差异,discrepancy意为“差异”,和Difference意思相近。故选D。 【10题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段“After the journey, their drawings became far more insightful, filled with vivid descriptions indicative of what they had learned during the VR journey - for example, the Earth’s ecology.(旅程结束后,他们的画变得更有洞察力,充满了生动的描述,表明他们在VR旅程中学到了什么——例如,地球生态)”可知,在VR之旅之后,孩子们的画描述了更多细节。故选B。 【11题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“I’m not proposing that we replace tests in schools with children’s drawings. But when it comes to transformative experiences, I’d recommend paying more attention to what children actually draw.(我并不是建议我们用孩子们的绘画来取代学校的考试。但当涉及到变革性的经历时,我建议更多地关注孩子们实际画的是什么)”可知,作者写这篇文章的目的是提出一种衡量儿童学习能力的方法。故选A。 D With its silicone (硅酮) skin and blue color, Emo the robot looks more like a mechanical recreation of the Blue Man Group than a regular human. Until it smiles back at you. Right now, in most humanoid robots, there’s a noticeable delay before they can smile back at a person, often because the robots are copying a person’s face in real time. 【答案】12. C 13. A 14. D 15. Despite the rise of digital reading, there’s a unique charm in browsing through physical books, feeling their pages, and discovering unexpected gems. Moreover, bookstores often serve as cultural hubs, hosting events and fostering community engagement. They offer an experience that digital platforms can’t fully replicate, making them invaluable to readers and society alike. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 During their practice, the group was amazed by Li Ming’s Chinese kung fu. His fluid movements combining strength and grace drew gasps of admiration. When he demonstrated a dragon-style sequence, the British students clapped enthusiastically. Sensing their genuine interest, Li Ming offered to teach basic stances. In return, they taught him popular dance steps, blending Eastern and Western elements into their performance. Gradually, Li Ming found himself laughing naturally during rehearsals. The cultural exchange dissolved his anxiety, replacing it with collaborative joy. By performance day, their routine had transformed into a vibrant fusion of martial arts and modern dance. After the show, Li Ming noticed some changes happening. Classmates greeted him warmly in corridors, asking about kung fu philosophies. In literature class, group members actively sought his interpretations, patiently listening to his accented English. At lunch breaks, students invited him to join conversations about cultural differences. The once-daunting school parties became opportunities to share Chinese pop songs. Most importantly, Li Ming stopped overthinking every interaction. He realized communication wasn’t about perfection, but sincere effort. Slowly, his initial adventure transformed into meaningful connections built on mutual curiosity and respect. 提供:offer/provide ②.发现:find/discover ③.邀请:invite/ask 情绪类 ①.热情地:enthusiastically/passionately ②.喜悦:joy/happiness 【点睛】[高分句型1].
