Edinburgh This Scottish city offers everything: a top art festival, amazing museums, and a rich literary past. Just when you think you know Edinburgh’s culture, something new surprises you. The popular Days Festival started last year and is coming back this May with a full day of underground dance music performances. Hanoi What’s charming about modern, youthful Hanoi is that the past is never far away. 100 km south in the mountains of Mai Châu, the “Cave Carnival” Equation Festival, now in its seventh year, is increasingly gaining international attention. Hanoi’s fashion scene is lively. Designers are changing ethnic textiles (纺织品) into world-famous high fashion, inspired by old silk traditions. Cape Town Cape Town’s cultural scene has seen an explosion of talent over the last few years. The Iziko South African Museum is a personal favorite, especially if you have curious kids. And First Thursdays, a monthly evening of art, culture, and open galleries in the heart of the city, is always a winner. Locals love it so much. It’s recently expanded to nearby Stellenbosch. Beijing If Beijing’s not the cultural capital of China, nowhere is. The city constantly surprises you with how it mixes Chinese tradition and modern life. Just think of those art exhibitions and independent concerts held in courtyard spaces, such as painting activities in modernist cafes, Sunday Tai Chi sessions at Chaoyang Park, and the coffee or live music performances at a bookstore, which is a coffee shop and bookstore transformed from an ancient church. No matter what you like, you can find it here. 1. What aspect of Hanoi is highlighted in the text? A. Modern architecture. B. Advanced technology. C. Ethnic textiles in fashion. D. Some famous Hanoi’s designers. 2. How many times is the event First Thursdays held a year? A. 12. B. 6. C. 2. D. 1. 3. What is the text? A. A description of traditions. B. An overview of cultural cities. C. A list of famous historical sites. D. An ad for unknown culture. B Just over 60 miles from Phoenix, along US Route 60, lies the Hassayampa River Preserve, which is home to 280 bird species. The preserve finds itself at risk due to surrounding human activities such as road and railroad traffic, mining sites and a booming rural community, leaving the potential for pollution just south of Wickenburg, Arizona, which houses just over 8,000 residents and has a rich history due to its plentiful gold, silver and copper. That’s why a professor at Arizona State University is studying the health of the preserve. Liza Roger, an assistant professor from the School of Molecular Sciences, is working with the Nature Conservancy to check the health of the preserve and reduce risks that might harm people’s health. In 2024, Roger improved an existing course, the Environmental Chemistry Laboratory, where she gathers students every spring to collect data on the preserve. With the site lacking environmental data, the course aims to provide benchmarks (基准) and time series. “I don’t particularly enjoy teaching in labs where you give students a handout. They go and work at their bench and when they’re done, they can leave and just submit (提交) the report, I don’t find that format very exciting for the instructor, nor for students,” said Roger. “So I decided. Since it is environmental chemistry, let’s take them outside and actually experience the environment. Let’s give them some field experience.” Roger wanted her students to have a chance to be physically involved in research—from design to sampling (取样) to analyzing their project data. Beyond collecting the data and turning it into solutions, Roger’s biggest emphasis in this class and beyond is that everything is connected within the earth’s health. For humans to be healthy, the surrounding environment needs to be in good health. She hopes that in the coming years, the class will continue building on the data that has been collected and sharing more ideas on how to further reduce the immediate risks within and around the preserve. 4. What made the Hassayampa River Preserve threatened? A. Climate change impacts. B. Declining bird populations. C. Mining sites falling into ruin. D. Human-driven operations nearby. 5. Why is Roger working with the Nature Conservancy? A. To develop new mining sites. B. To lessen the risks to the preserve. C. To increase the number of bird species. D. To promote the rural community’s development. 6. What may Roger’s students think of her course? A. It’s innovative. B. It’s impractical. C. It’s demanding. D. It’s outdated. 7. What does Roger expect her students to do in the class? A. Go and work at their bench. B. Hand in their report on time. C. Fully participate in research. D. Focus on learning the negative impact on health. C An electric vehicle (EV) battery usually reaches the end of its lifetime after about eight to ten years, or when its capacity (容量) drops below 80 percent of its original level. A team of researchers in China has found a way to bring dead lithium-ion (锂离子) batteries back to life, potentially reducing both the amount of waste that’s quickly piling up from spent EV batteries and the need to produce as many new ones. Gao, a chemist at Fudan University in Shanghai, and his colleagues, used an AI model trained on the rules of chemistry. They fed it a database of electrochemical reactions and had it look for molecules (分子) that would meet their requirements, such as dissolving well in an electrolyte (电解液) solution and being relatively cheap to produce. The model suggested three options, and the team identified one of them, a salt called LiSO2CF3, as ideal. Gao and his colleagues found that the chemical mixture could significantly make a LFP (LiFePO4) battery cell. An LFP battery that powers an EV can typically be charged and then discharged about 2,000 times before it is considered “dead”. By adding the electrolyte whenever the battery neared that limit, the team was able to revive most of the cell’s capacity each time—and it carried on working almost as well as a new battery. By the end of the experiment, the cell regained 96 percent capacity after nearly 12,000 charge-discharge cycles. Gao’s research suggests this innovation could create business opportunities, though the market may remain limited. Currently, most electric car batteries can function properly for up to 15 years. The technology requires specially designed battery cases that consent liquid solutions to be added during use. “The question” he adds, “is whether the benefits are worth it if the required changes in some way affect other design aspects necessary for the battery’s performance.” 8. What do current EV batteries feature? A. They are made to stop working after ten years. B. They can be lastingly used without replacement. C. They are often stopped being used after eight to ten years. D. They always maintain more than 80 percent capacity. 9. What aspect of the research is described in paragraph 2? A. Its process. B. Its influence. C. Its significance. D. Its difficulty. 10. What does the underlined word “consent” in paragraph 5 mean? A. Commit. B. Evaluate. C. Analyse. D. Allow. 11. What is Gao’s attitude to the future of the method? A. Careless. B. Concerned. C. Uncertain. D. Optimistic. D New research has compared whether food waste is reduced more by consumers who are driven by sustainability or those driven by nutrition and health. With somewhat unexpected findings, the study highlights the need to reconsider our approach to addressing the issue of food waste. According to the United Nations Environment Program’s Food Waste Index Report 2024, 19% of food available to consumers in 2022 was wasted at the retail (零售), food service, and household level. That is 1.05 billion tons of food waste. Meanwhile, in the same year, 783 million people went hungry, and a third of the world’s population faced food insecurity. To identify what methods were better at reducing household food waste, researchers from the Center for Global Food and Resources in the School of Economics and Public Policy at the University of Adelaide, looked at the difference between consumer food choices based on either sustainability or nutrition and health. Their findings were interesting and somewhat beyond expectation. The researchers recruited 1,030 adults to participate in an online survey that explored aspects of household food consumption behavior. After analyzing the data, the researchers observed that a focus on nutrition had a significant and negative relationship with food waste. Further, being nutrition-focused also had a significant and positive relationship with meal planning behavior, and a significant and negative relationship with over-purchasing. “People who prioritize healthy eating tend to plan meals and avoid over-purchasing behaviors that significantly reduce food waste,” said Nguyen, an author of the study. The researchers said their findings show that a shift in thinking is needed if food waste is to be addressed effectively on a societal level. “Rather than focusing on sustainability as a standalone concept, future food waste reduction campaigns should emphasize the link between nutrition and food waste,” said Nguyen. “People are often more motivated by personal health benefits than by abstract environmental concerns, so framing waste reduction as part of a healthy lifestyle could be more persuasive.” 12. Why does the author mention the report? A. To find new ways to reduce waste. B. To encourage people to save more food. C. To compare different countries’ waste habits. D. To present the fact about global food waste. 13. Which survey question would match this study? A. Do you make weekly meal plans? B. How much do you spend on clothing? C. Have you studied food supply systems? D. Why does nutrition knowledge change shopping? 14. What solution do researchers suggest? A. Making less food. B. Changing how we think. C. Only focusing on nature. D. Choosing different foods. 15. What can be the best title for the text? A. A Survey on Global Hunger B. Solving Hunger with Sustainability C. Reducing Food Waste in Retail Stores D. The Link Between Nutrition and Food Waste 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 You can train your brain to keep knowledge and insight better by understanding how you learn. We recommend the following proven technique for improving your learning. If you want to supercharge your learning, the single most effective technique we’ve uncovered for absorbing new concepts comes from the famed Nobel Prize-winning physicist Richard Feynman. ____16____. It includes the following four steps: Choose a concept you wish to learn about. Pretend you are teaching it to a child—a sixth-grader, specifically. ____17____. Identify any gap in your understanding that might show up when you try to simplify the concept; go back to the source material to find the information you need. ____18____. It works because writing out a concept in language a child would understand forces you to understand it at a deeper level. Sometimes we use jargon (行话) and complicated language to hide what we don’t understand. The Feynman Technique lays bare the true extent of our knowledge. Ask questions. Asking better questions is a route to faster learning. ____19____. That’s because they require an explanation that digs into the details. How do you know if you’ve truly learned a new concept? Feynman proposed a simple alternate (供替换的) test: try to rephrase it in your own language without using its actual name. For instance, describe what enables a dog to run without using the word “energy”. Use spaced repetition. Rote (死记硬背) memorization doesn’t work. The key to effective learning is spaced repetition, a technique that works with the way your brain naturally remembers information, not against it. Spaced repetition includes revising information at increasing time gaps. This reflects and fights the fact that once you learn something you gradually forget it, with the forgetting happening fast at first, then leveling off. ____20____. A. Learn from experience and reflection B. Review and simplify your explanation again C. Write your explanation down or say it out loud D. The simplest questions can sometimes teach us the most E. The greatest enemy of learning is what you think you know F. The Feynman Technique ensures you understand what you learn G. Using spaced repetition, you review information frequently at first, then less often 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 What I witnessed at a local cafe made me realize the incredible power of kindness. When she was a teenager, she saw a Chinese kung fu performance on TV. The movements were so graceful and powerful that she fell in love with it. For over 20 years, she never missed her kung fu classes in Chinatown, practicing kung fu three times a week. The moves of kung fu are now part of her muscle memory. One Saturday morning at the end of May, the old town set up a “Spring Handmade Market”. Sunlight streamed through the high windows, and the air was filled with the scents of flowers. Melly carried an empty cloth bag, planning to pick a handmade toy for her niece and a cup for herself. In the center of the market, an elderly man with white hair was playing a traditional harmonica (口琴). The beautiful music attracted the crowd. Children sat on the floor, and adults stood in a half-circle. Melly stood in the back, tapping her toes to the rhythm. Suddenly, as the music reached its peak, the elderly man started coughing and couldn’t catch his breath. The music stopped. His face turned pale, and he began to sweat. He accidentally dropped his harmonica. Seeing this, Melly moved through the crowd and knelt (跪) beside the man, saying softly, “Let me help you.” She used the “breathing technique” she learned from kung fu, guiding the elderly man to slow his breathing: tongue touching the roof of the mouth, breathe into the stomach, then breathe out slowly. After a few seconds, his breathing calmed down. Melly asked the staff to bring a cup of warm water and helped him drink. She loosened his top shirt button to make it easier to breathe. 注意: (1)续写词数应为150个左右; (2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 After a few minutes, the elderly man’s face regained color. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Seeing the taxi leaving, Melly went back to the market. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 高二英语考试卷 注意事项: 1. How much is the shirt? A Climate change impacts. 【答案】4. D 5. B 6. A 7. “The question,” he adds, “is whether the benefits are worth it if the required changes in some way affect other design aspects necessary for the battery’s performance.” 8. A. Careless. B. Concerned. C. Uncertain. D. Optimistic. 【答案】8. C 9. A 10. D 11. The Link Between Nutrition and Food Waste 【答案】12. D 13. A 14. B 15. Using spaced repetition, you review information frequently at first, then less often 【答案】16. F 17. B 18. C 19. D 20. (运用了省略连接词that的宾语从句作believe的宾语) 第二节(满分25分) 47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。 Melly, a 42-year-old woman, lives in a quiet town in Shropshire, England. 注意: (1)续写词数应150个左右; (2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 After a few minutes, the elderly man’s face regained color. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Seeing the taxi leaving, Melly went back to the market. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】参考范文: After a few minutes, the elderly man’s face regained color. He could sit up on his own. He grabbed Melly’s hands, his voice still hoarse but filled with gratitude. “Young lady, thank you. You brought me back.” The staff had already called a doctor from the town clinic, but the elderly man insisted he was fine and just needed some rest at home. Melly walked him to the market entrance, called a taxi, noted his address, and reminded the driver to go slowly. Seeing the taxi leaving, Melly went back to the market. She hung about at the market and selected what she wanted. She had bought a handmade wooden horse for her niece and a pottery cup for herself. On the bottom of the cup were the words, “In between breaths, the world becomes wide.” That evening, she wrote in her diary, “Kung fu isn’t about high kicks and flips. It’s about keeping calm when your heart and breath are in sync, and about reaching out to help the chaotic world find its rhythm again.” 词汇激活 行为类 ①紧握:grab /hold tightly /clutch ②挑选:select /choose/pick out ③写下:write /jot down /record 情绪类 ①感激:gratitude /thanks/appreciation ②沉着:calm /composed/steady 【点睛】[高分句型1] He grabbed Melly’s hands, his voice still hoarse but filled with gratitude.(运用了独立主格结构作状语) [高分句型2] That evening, she wrote in her diary, “Kung fu isn’t about high kicks and flips.
