Learning a new language can be challenging but useful. Whether you’re studying English, Chinese, or another language, here is some useful advice to help you succeed.
Start by setting clear goals. Ask yourself: Why do I want to learn this language? Is it for travel, school, or personal growth? For example, learn 10 new words every day or hold a 5-minute conversation weekly. Clear goals keep you learning a language actively.
Consistency (连贯性) is key. Spend at least 15-30 minutes every day practicing. Listen to English songs, read short articles, or keep a diary in the language. Even small things can make a big difference over time.
Connect traditional ways with modern tools. Watch movies in the language, use language-learning apps (like Duolingo) and so on. These resources make learning easy and fun. For example, watching cartoons helps improve listening and reading skills at the same time.
Speak without fear. Don’t be afraid of making mistakes. Join language clubs, find a study partner, or talk with native speakers online. Practice makes you feel better. As the saying goes, “Mistakes are proof (证据) that you’re trying.”
Create an immersive (沉浸式的) environment. Change your phone’s language settings or listen to music in the language. Immersion helps you think naturally in the language and understand cultural contexts.

It’s normal to feel nervous before a test. But sometimes, this nervous feeling can become very strong. You might feel sick, get a headache, or feel very scared or sad. This is called test anxiety.
Dealing with test anxiety is important—it’s even been found that students with greater test anxiety get lower grades than those who have less anxiety. And researchers in Turkey wanted to see if there was a simple way to help students with this feeling.
In Turkey, students in Grade Eight—typically around 14 years old—take a centralized high school entrance exam that tests them in math, science, social studies, foreign languages and Turkish. There’s a lot of pressure to do well in the exam to get into the best high schools, which will then help students get into top universities.
For the study, 162 eighth-grade students in two different middle schools were introduced to a breathing exercise program three months before the exam. The program is used to help them relax and control their stress. Twice a week over eight weeks, the students were led through a 15-to-20-minute program of breathing exercises, which they did before school. The program included things like using the diaphragm (隔肌) from yoga. Students were also taught ways to stop scary or stressful thoughts.
Before and after the program, the students completed a test that scored their levels of anxiety. And by the end of the eight-week program, researchers found that their anxiety scores dropped by 11%.
The researchers said this shows that breathing exercises at school can help students feel less nervous before big tests. It’s simple and doesn’t cost much.
So if you have a test coming up and you feel worried, take a deep breath—it might really help!
8. What does the underlined part “this feeling” in the second paragraph refer to?
A. The feeling of being excited before a test.
B. The feeling of doing well in every subject.
C. The feeling of wanting to go to high school.
D. The feeling of being very nervous before a test.
9. Which of the following is TRUE about the breathing program?
A. It cost a lot of money. B. It was done once a month.
C. It took 15 to 20 minutes each time. D. It was too hard for students.
10. How can we tell that the program worked?
A. The students smiled more often after taking deep breaths or doing the “lion’s breath”.
B. The students’ anxiety scores went down.
C. The students finished their tests faster.
D The students got perfect scores in all subjects.
11. What is the writer trying to tell students at the end of the passage?
A. Breathing can help when you are nervous.
B. Doing fun things before a test is always helpful.
C. The best way to do well is to talk about your feelings.
D. Feeling nervous before a test means you are not ready.
D
Artificial intelligence (AI) is changing the way we live, work, and play. Simply put, AI refers to machines or computer systems that can do jobs needing human intelligence, such as learning, problem-solving, and decision-making. Let’s see how AI influences our lives!
Smart Assistants
Have you ever asked Siri or Alexa for help? These voice-controlled assistants use AI to understand your questions and provide answers. They can play music, set reminders, or even tell jokes. AI makes them “smart” by letting them learn from millions of talks.
Healthcare Innovations (创新)
AI helps doctors check diseases faster. For example, AI systems can read X-ray images to find out signs of illnesses. Some hospitals also use robots powered by AI to send medicines or help take care of patients.
Education Tools
AI is transforming education too! Learning apps like Duolingo use AI to create proper lessons. If a student has difficulty in learning English, the app changes the difficulty level and offers more practice. This makes learning easier and more fun.
Transportation Improvements
Self-driving cars are no longer science fiction. Companies like Tesla use AI to help cars “see” the road, stay away from obstacles (障碍物), and follow traffic rules. In the future, AI might cut down accidents caused by human mistakes.
________
While AI brings many good points, it also raises questions. For example, will AI take the place of humans? How do we protect personal information? Scientists are working hard to solve these problems.
In short, AI is like a helpful friend that makes life easier and safer. By understanding it more, we can use AI to build a better world!
12. What makes smart assistants “smart”?
A. Their skill in understanding people’s feelings.
B. Their ability to follow orders without question.
C. The AI technology that allows them to learn from conversations.
D. The strong batteries (电池) and wonderful computer parts they have.
13. What does the underlined word “transforming” in Paragraph 4 mean?
A. Creating. B. Changing. C. Connecting. D. Repeating.
14. Which of the following can we put back into the blank “________”?
A. Opinions and Users B. Meanings and Choices
C. Advice and Prizes D. Problems and Challenges
15. Which of the following best shows the structure of the text?
A. B.
C. D.

Thanks to technology, people are spending less time writing by hand. Little kids still like to scribble (涂鸦), and many students use pens and pencils at school. Even though teachers use the same lessons to teach writing, everyone’s handwriting looks different. Still, many people like typing (打字) more than writing. ____16____
In everyday life, people often communicate by text and email and they type diaries instead of writing ones on paper. If you have a phone, there’s no need to look for a pen and paper. But some people think handwriting is still very important. Is typing better than writing? The following are the different viewpoints of two students.
Paula: Typing is faster and easier.
Whether it’s sending a message to a friend or doing an exam, typing is much quicker than writing. If you make a mistake, you can fix it easily. ____17____ These can be especially useful for people who find writing hard. You can send your work to others quickly by email or print many copies. That’s much faster than writing everything by hand. Typing also looks neat (整齐的), and everyone can read it. You don’t have to worry about messy writing or tired hands.
Tim: ____18____.
Each person has their own way of writing. It shows who they are. Learning to write can be fun and make you feel proud. Looking at a screen too long can hurt your eyes. Also, studies show that handwriting can help people remember things better. Handwriting is more personal. Receiving a handwritten message makes you feel special and reminds you of the person who wrote it. ____19____ Writing can be a fun hobby, whether it’s sending letters to a pen pal or trying calligraphy.
A. Handwriting is an important skill.
B. A typed message just isn’t the same.
C. Many people forget how to write when they pick up a pen.
D. Also, typing usually comes with helpful tools, such as a spell-check.
E. Some schools now let students choose if they want to type or write their exams.
5. Whose point of view do you agree with, Paula’s or Tim’s? Why? (Answer within 15 words)

So, if you have a test coming up and you feel worried, take a deep breath—it might really help!

A. The students smiled more often after taking deep breaths or doing the “lion’s breath”.
B. The students’ anxiety scores went down.
C. The students finished their tests faster.
D. The students got perfect scores in all subjects.
11. What is the writer trying to tell students at the end of the passage?

Typing also looks neat (整齐), and everyone can read it.

This method can help you not only boost writing skills through regular practice but also reinforce vocabulary retention in meaningful contexts.
You’ll find it especially helpful for consolidating daily lessons. Give it a try!
Best wishes,
