2022年浙江高考卷(参加施粥活动)
I needed to do something in my community in order to complete the community service hours required to graduate from high school. Some of my friends had signed up to spend time at a soup kitchen, so I did, too. It seemed like a good thing to do.
I thought that we would just be passing out dinners to those in need, but I found out we would be doing everything from preparing to serving the dinner. We began preparing the food, from mixing salad dressing to separating frozen meat. Much still needed to be done before dinner was served, but already outside the building many homeless people were gathering. It wasn’t until a couple of hours later that we opened the doors and began serving dinner.
As the line of people came toward me, I got a little scared. I’d come face to face with the homeless: How should I act? How would they treat me? Would they hate me for having more than they did? While some of the people looked very friendly, others looked so dangerous. I didn’t have too much time to worry about it. I was assigned (分配) to serve the salad with the lady next to me. She smiled at me and said if I needed help, she’d be right there, which I found quite comforting.
I had never seen so many people wanting food. They were of all ages and nationalities. Most of them wore clothes that were torn and dirty. Some looked like they had totally given up on life, while others seemed to be making the best of the situation, smiling and joking. Some were better off than others, but they all needed a good meal and a warm place to eat. It saddened me to think of how many people there were who didn’t have a place to call home and the only food they got came from a soup kitchen.

In a peaceful neighborhood, there lived a group of kind-hearted residents (居民) who always looked out for each other. Among them, there were a few lonely elderly people who had spent their lives in the same community but had lost most of their family and friends over the years. On a rainy afternoon, Cynthia, a young and energetic woman, noticed Mr. Roberts, an elderly man, struggling to carry heavy bags of groceries into his house. Without hesitation, she rushed to offer her assistance. Mr. Roberts was grateful for her kindness and invited her in for a cup of tea.
As fate would have it, another resident named Beck, who was passing by, saw the heart-warming scene and approached them. Realizing the need for a collective effort, Beck suggested starting a community initiative (倡议) to help the elderly in their neighborhood. Cynthia and Mr. Roberts were excited at the idea, and they decided to call it “Neighbors Care”.
Word quickly spread throughout the neighborhood, and soon enough, more residents joined the initiative. They divided themselves into small groups, with each group assigned to a specific elderly person. They would check on them daily, help with housework, share meals, and engage in meaningful conversations.
Through this initiative, the elderly residents felt loved and appreciated. Their once lonely lives were now filled with joy. They would eagerly wait for their assigned group’s arrival, as it brought a sense of warmth to their hearts.
The “Neighbors Care” movement kept growing stronger, and its effects were felt not only by the elderly but also by the entire community. The positive energy started to spread, and it encouraged other locals to be kinder and more supportive to each other.

It was 3 a. m. when the flood came on an unseasonably warm night in June. Rocks were heard breaking. Susan Roberts, new to Red Lodge, Montana, a small town of 2,300 people, woke from an uneasy sleep. She saw the lights on at her across-the-way neighbors’, on the side bordering Rock Creek, a 55-mile river skirting the town’s eastern edge.
Roberts’s next-door neighbor, a police officer, was evacuating (疏散) with his four kids, and he advised Roberts to do the same. So she put her dogs in the car and moved it to a narrow street behind her home, about 10 feet uphill, as her husband went from house to house, waking others. It was still dark; people were sleeping and didn’t realize. More people went to each other’s doors, saying, “Wake up and you have to get out.”
The couple stayed in their car and on the few feet of dry land surrounding it for the entirety of the next day, watching their house ruined. Trees were washed down the town’s main street. Cars floated away. Floods ruined the Beartooth Highway, a major road connecting Red Lodge to Billings. “The town looked like a riverbed,” says Roberts. “The whole community was wandering around, trying to grasp what had happened.”
The day after the flood, more than 20 people friends, neighbors, strangers, even tourists flocked (群集) to help. “People went into our wet, muddy basement and pulled everything out,” says Roberts. “They sorted and took things home to wash. One person came to clean up our yard. A mother and her two young children pulled rubbish from our chain-link fence.” Helpers even saved her precious photo albums, drying each print before returning it to the book.
And volunteers kept coming every day until summer’s end. “People would not take no for an answer. If I was like, ‘Oh, we’re OK now,’ they’d be like, ‘No, I’m gonna do something,’” she says.

Another wildly bright lightning along with a thunder cracked in the sky! Mary swiftly threw herself into her Mum’s arms, burying her face into her chest and trembling with fright. “I think we should leave here right away!” She murmured in a crying tone. Instantly, Dad refused her request again for the fact that the city had already been flooded severely. As he saw through their window, the almost three-meter-high floodwater had already surrounded the apartment building like a wide river, several cars floating on it just like boats.
“Black out!” Mary gasped fearfully, the wind roaring and the rain beating on the roof and windows, which made her even more nervous in the whole darkness. Mum took Mary’s hand and carefully led her to sit on the sofa, trying her best to comfort her. While she performed calmly, Mary could tell she was nervous too. “Let’s try to find a light source first and then see what other supplies we have.” Dad made an arrangement. Luckily, there was a flashlight, some packages of instant noodles, bread and some drinking water, which may help them get through the toughness for half of the night. Without saying a single word, Dad turned on the flashlight, sat down and hugged his wife and daughter. The sudden silence in the house seemed to make the wind and rain more frightening outside. Only the light of the flashlight could now give them some warmth and a sense of little hope.
“What about Mrs. Thomson? Old and weak, she must be extremely helpless.” Mum said with great concern when she thought about their nice neighbor who lived alone upstairs in the same building. After a brief discussion, Mum and Dad decided they should go and check whether Mrs. Thomson was fine. Mary, with heavy breath and pounding heart, stood up immediately, ready to bring all their supplies to Mrs. Thomson’s house.

There was a pond in the center of our community, which had long been a source of joy and comfort. In the past, its clear waters sparkled like diamonds under the sun, and the gentle rustling of the leaves along the banks created a pleasant tune. Colorful fish and frogs made it their home, and kids in the neighborhood would spend hours by the water, playing with their friends or observing the wonders of nature.
However, over time, the pond became dirtier and dustier. Empty plastic bottles, fast-food wrappers, and even old bicycles were carelessly thrown into the water. The once-clear waters turned dark, and a strange smell began to hang over the area, driving away the wildlife.
One sunny afternoon, I took a walk around the pond and was shocked by its sorry state. Determined to do something about it, I took out my phone and started taking pictures from every angle. Each image recorded the extent of the pollution, serving as a reminder of the urgent need for action.
After getting home, I sat down and crafted a detailed plan. I estimated that we would need at least fifteen volunteers to cover all areas of the pond. I made a list of necessary tools, such as long-handled scoops, waterproof boots, and garbage bins. Then, I spent hours designing posters with pictures of the polluted pond and the words “Let’s Bring Back Our Shining Pond.” My mother even suggested that I publish a post on the net!
I first shared my plan with my closest friends. We met at a nearby playground, and as I showed them the pictures, they were horrified. “I can’t believe it has become like this,” shouted Jack. “We used to have so much fun here,” added Emily, and her voice was filled with sadness. I then presented my plan, and without hesitation, they all agreed to help.

It was a quiet Sunday afternoon, and the old movie theater on Main Street was nearly empty. Alex, the manager, sat in his dimly lit office, staring at the day’s earnings. The numbers were disheartening. Only a handful of tickets had been sold, and the concession stand barely broke even. He knew the theater was struggling, but today’s figures were particularly grim. The pandemic had taken a toll, but even before that, fewer and fewer people were coming to the movies. Streaming services and home entertainment systems had become the preferred choice for many. Alex wondered if there was anything he could do to bring back the crowds and save the theater from closing down. He thought about the good old days when the theater was packed, and families would come together to enjoy the latest blockbusters. He remembered the excitement of the opening night of a highly anticipated film and the joy of seeing the audience react to the twists and turns of the plot. Those days seemed like a distant memory now.
Alex’s mind wandered to the challenges ahead. He knew that simply showing the latest films wouldn’t be enough to draw crowds back to the theater. He needed a plan that would make the experience of going to the movies special again. He thought about the unique features of the theater — the ornate ceiling, the plush red curtains, and the vintage ticket booth — and wondered how he could leverage these elements to create a truly memorable experience. He also considered the community around him. The town had a vibrant arts scene, and there were local artists and musicians who could potentially collaborate with the theater. Alex knew he needed to think creatively and act quickly to turn things around.

6.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
For twenty years, I had been running a cafe on the coast of Sanibel Island, Florida. Every morning before sunrise I would arrive at my cafe, carefully hanging the wood signboard “Welcome to the Lighthouse — Serving Daily Joy’s beside the entrance. It was a handmade gift from the community, and the letters carved on it were worn smooth by years of salt air and loving touches of the customers.
Soon the smell of cafe and bacon filled the air. Then came greetings from every familiar face. Silver-haired shell collectors, local artists, and Fisherman Hank with a cheerful order “The usual , Mike”. These regulars had become more than customers to me and this cafe was not just a business Just as Hank put it, “The lighthouse is for ships, but this lighthouse is for us!”
Joyful and hopeful days passed one after another until an autumn morning when Hurricane Ian came. The storm covered the entire island with water, turning it unrecognizable. When the storm finally passed, I went back to the café ,staring helplessly at the floating (漂浮的) items in the water, each of which was a bitter reminder of what I had lost. Just then Hank stepped up beside me, his hand warm on my shoulder, “Not the end of the story, Mike.” Behind him were neighbors from the community, who were still in work gloves from their own repairs. With their help, the heavy cleanup finally finished. And the signboard? Gone. Washed away, I assumed, like so much else.
Day after day, I would sit in the shell of the cafe all day, doing nothing. I felt like twenty years of stories and greetings were gone forever.

As the school year wrapped up and the first days of summer vacation stretched out before them, Max, Ava, and Sam had a perfect day planned at their usual community park. This tidy little park was their go - to spot for unwinding and just enjoying some precious leisure time.
Max rushed ahead with a soccer ball under his arm, Ava and Sam trailing closely behind, full of energy. It was the kind of day that promised endless fun and carefree laughter. But as they stepped into the park, their heart sank. The once - beloved playground was now a chaotic mess of discarded trash (乱扔的垃圾) — candy wrappers stuck in the slide’s metal bars, plastic bottles rolling in the wind, and chip bags lying underfoot.
“Look at this!” Ava shouted in disbelief as she pointed to the garbage near the swings.
Max’s face darkened with frustration. The three friends stood frozen, their eyes scanning the playground area. The once clean slides and swings were now buried under a layer of candy wrappers and plastic bottles. Ava cast a glance (瞥一眼) at the walking trails, where garbage seemed to have taken over, with discarded bags and cans lying everywhere. Sam looked out at the grassy fields — a disaster. The park was vast, but every corner seemed to have been touched by the carelessness of others.
“Who would be so thoughtless?” Max whispered, shaking his head.
Sam kicked a plastic bottle in anger, sending it flying across the grass. “It’s not just thoughtless. It’s disrespectful.”
Ava sighed thoughtfully but suddenly her face lit up. “We can’t just leave it like this. Why don’t we do something about it? We can, say, form a Cleanup Squad (清洁小分队)…” she said, her voice soft but determined.

When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, it was the city’s Lower Ninth Ward that was hit the hardest. “I remember coming back home, that was the first time I cried,” Lower Ninth Ward resident Mark told his mother, Gloria. “And we lost everything,” Gloria says.
Recovery was especially slow to come to that part of town. Mark, a father and a son himself, says that for three years he had to live out of a trailer (拖车) set up by an emergency management agency. The residents in the area went six years after the storm without a grocery store (杂货店).
“We had no stores, no barbershops, no laundry rooms,” Mark says. “You have to catch three buses to get to a store. And I was always taught if there’s a problem, somebody’s got to make a move.”
Mark decided to open up that grocery store himself. Using money he’d saved up while working at fast-food restaurants, Mark bought an old building on an empty block and got to work—all in the middle of a fair bit of doubts.
“I remember when I first bought the building, everybody thought that I was crazy,” Mark says. Even his mother had her doubts and told him to stop. “I mean, it was full of trash on the floor that you had to crawl (爬) over and—how can my son make anything out of this?” Gloria remembers thinking.
Clearing the mess wasn’t an easy thing for Mark by himself at all, but he still kept his hands and eyes on the work. “Those eight-hour days turning into 15 hours a day really require more energy and physical strength,” Mark says, “but what motivated (激励) me the most to hold on was to see the people that would walk by with the groceries and get off the bus with all of those bags in the future. That made me work harder.”
Mark’s grocery store finally opened and was full of crowds of residents. The very first customer, Jessica, even cried because she said she had never thought the Lower Ninth Ward could come back.

9.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
As Hurricane Ian bore down on Florida, many residents who decided to stay found themselves unable to leave.
When the water slipped in under the door of their home in Naples, Florida, it was just a sign that it was time to go.
It was around noon on Wednesday, September 28 last year and Darcy Bishop woke up her two brothers who had been resting after lunch. She pulled the wheelchair up to the oldest, Russell Rochow, 66. Her other brother, Todd Rochow, 63, was in his room, changing clothes. He could manage with a walker.
Both men had been born with disabilities, and their mental development was like that of a young child. But they found joy in their surroundings. Russell loved riding the bus and going to parks. Todd liked collecting cans at the beach and playing on the boat in the neighbor 's home, Hance Walters’ home. Bishop, 61, was their lifeline, their little sister who had long felt a duty to keep them safe.
“We’ve got to get going!” she shouted to Todd. She went to open the front door. It would not move. The weight of the water on the other side had shut it tight.
She rushed to try the door to the garage, where Todd’s walker was stored. It, too, was stuck.
That’s when the house the three brothers shared began to flood.
The only way to go was up.
Bishop guided Todd to the stairs, and he grabbed the banister(栏杆). She helped him pull himself slowly up to the top where he waited in a chair.
But stairs were impossible for Russell, who could neither walk nor bend his stiff legs.
Bishop dragged on the belt around Russell’s waist, but he was nearly 77 kilograms. She tried every position possible, switching from pushing to pulling, and managed to get him up a few carpeted steps.
But the water followed.
Bishop called 911 and was told someone would come soon. But outside the window she could already see furniture, boats and cars floating by.

I woke up to the sound of rumbling (隆隆声). At first, I thought it was thunder, but then I felt the ground shake beneath me. I sat up in bed, my heart pounding in my chest. It took a few moments for me to realize what was happening — an earthquake. I had always heard stories about earthquakes, but I had never experienced one myself. I knew that I needed to act fast to ensure my survival.
The room was shaking violently, and I struggled to keep my balance. I quickly got out of bed and tried to make my way to the door. I stumbled and fell a few times, but I managed to make it to the door and open it.
As I stepped outside, I was met with chaos. The ground was still shaking, and I could hear the sound of buildings collapsing in the distance. People were running in all directions, screaming and crying. I knew that I needed to find a safe place to take cover.
I remembered reading that doorways were one of the safest places during an earthquake, so I made my way to the nearest doorway and waited there. The ground continued to shake, and I had never felt so scared in my life.
After what seemed like an eternity (永恒), the shaking finally stopped. I cautiously stepped out of the doorway, looking around at the destruction that the earthquake had caused.Buildings had crumbled to the ground, and fires were burning in the distance. I remembered that I had a survival kit in my car, so I made my way to the parking lot.
When I got there, I saw that my car had been crushed by debris (碎片) from a nearby building. I realized that I was on my own. I knew that I needed to stay calm and think rationally. I looked around and saw a group of people huddled together across the street. I made my way over to them, and they welcomed me into their group.

2025年四川模拟卷(机器人的导航问题)
In the town of Greenfield, there was a school, Greenfield High School, where students were encouraged to think creatively and solve problems together.
One day, a group of students from the school’s robotics club approached Mr. Carter, a science teacher, with a problem. They had been working on a project for the upcoming regional robotics competition, but their robot had hit a major barrier. The robot’s navigation (导航) system kept failing, causing it to veer off course and miss its targets. The competition was only a few weeks away, and the team was growing disheartened.
Emily, the team leader, explained the problem to Mr. Carter. “We’ve tried everything we can think of, but nothing seems to work,” she said, her voice filled with worry. “We might not be ready in time.”
Mr. Carter listened carefully, his eyes twinkling with a mix of concern and excitement. “Let’s take a step back,” he suggested. “Sometimes, the best solutions come from unexpected places.”
He gathered the team in the lab and pulled out a large whiteboard. “Let’s brainstorm,” he said, drawing a circle in the center and labeling it “Navigation System”.
“Think about everything you know about navigation, not just in robotics, but in everyday life. How do you find your way when you’re lost? How do birds migrate? How do ships sail the ocean?”
The students began to shout out ideas, and Mr. Carter wrote them down, connecting them with lines and arrows. Emily mentioned GPS, while another student, Jake, talked about using landmarks. Sarah, the team’s programmer, suggested incorporating machine learning to help the robot adapt to its environment. As the ideas flowed, the whiteboard became a web of interconnected thoughts.
Mr. Carter stepped back and smiled. “See? You already have the pieces of the puzzle. Now, let’s put them together in a new way.” He pointed to the idea of using landmarks. “What if we teach the robot to recognize specific markers in its environment and use them to navigate?”

第二部分 模拟演练(10篇)
1.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
On an ordinary workday in New York, a soft humming sound came from 26-year-old Sarah’s desk. It didn’t come from her phone or computer, but from a small grey thing curled up beside her keyboard. This wasn’t an ordinary toy—it was an AI pet.
The AI pet had fluffy fur, big blinking eyes, and artificial skin that gave off a gentle warmth. It would turn its head toward Sarah, make a soft cry, and rub against her hand just like a needy kitten. Although it couldn’t move around like a real animal, its built-in camera could “see” people, food, and other objects, and it would respond with eye contact, sounds, and gestures. With the AI pet by her side, Sarah felt less lonely at work.
However, having learnt about her over-reliance and potential insecurity about AI creation, her friend Elvis strongly recommended quitting it. Just when Sarah thought the danger was over after turning off the AI pet, new trouble crept in. One night, she received a strange email with a video attached. When Sarah clicked it open, her hands started shaking with fear—the video recorded everything she did at home, from chatting on the phone with family to sitting alone in a daze. The email also had a horrible message: “Your precious AI friend may be silent now, but its eyes are everywhere.”
After that, Sarah felt scared all the time, as if someone was watching her every move. She searched every corner of her apartment, trying to find hidden cameras, but found nothing. Angry and desperate, she even considered giving up on all electronic devices. Just when she felt most helpless, her adopted puppy, Lucky, wagged its tail and gently rubbed against her leg. Looking into Lucky’s innocent eyes, Sarah suddenly realized that the warmth and comfort she felt with the real puppy were something the AI pet could never replace.

It was 3 a.m. when the flood came on an unseasonably warm night in June.
Gabriel had always been fascinated by robots. His mother, however, did not think much of it. She often criticized him, urging him to focus on his schoolwork instead of those“ useless machines”, as she called them. She wanted him to spend more time on his books, and less time lost in the world of robotics. He, however, always worked quietly on parts, trying to create inventions that could solve everyday problems.
One day, Gabriel came back from school, bursting through the front door, holding a shining award in his hand. The gas detection robot he had built for months had just won first place in the regional competition. His heart raced as he imagined his mother would be proud this time.
“Mom! Look! I won!” he cried. His mother, standing at the kitchen counter, looked briefly. She sighed, “That’s nice, Gabriel, but I still don’t see what good it will do you. It’s not going to help you with your grades or get you into college. You need to focus on something more practical.” Her voice showed no interest. Gabriel remained quiet, determined to prove that what he was doing had value.
One evening, as the delicious smell of dinner floated through the house, an unexpected danger was quietly closing. Gabriel’s mother had been busy in the kitchen but had forgotten to turn off the gas. Unaware of the coming threat, she had wandered into the living room, settling down comfortably in front of the TV. The gas continued to escape, silently filling the air. The house was on the edge of a disaster.

In 2018, 17-year-old Hemesh spent a life-changing summer with his grandmother Anne, who had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. Witnessing the impact of the disease firsthand, Hemesh was awakened to the seriousness of the situation.
One night, Hemesh walked into the kitchen only to discover that his grandmother had left the gas stove (炉) on after making tea. Shocked by the dangerous consequences Alzheimer’s disease could bring about, he couldn’t help but wonder what might have happened if he hadn’t been there.
Hemesh’s worries increased as he observed his grandmother’s behavior. She would wake up in the early hours of the morning, believing she was on a train, and wander outside aimlessly. This wandering tendency could potentially lead her to get lost or put herself in risky situations.
Determined to make a difference, Hemesh engaged himself in extensive research about Alzheimer’s disease and its symptomatic (症状的) progression. Through his studies, he discovered that wandering was a common problem among dementia patients, especially those with Alzheimer’s disease.
Inspired by his newfound knowledge and fueled by his desire to help, Hemesh told his family, “I can’t just stand by and watch this happen. I need to do something to keep Grandma safe. I think I have an idea that might help not just her, but others in similar situations.”
With firm determination, he developed an inventive answer to the wandering dilemma, a device he called the Guardian Companion. It was a wearable device, similar to a smartwatch, specifically designed for Alzheimer’s patients. It integrated advanced GPS technology and a panic button to assist those who tended to wander, ensuring their safety and well-being. After the device got its official approval, Hemesh happily went to try it on for his grandmother.

One year ago, when we were in the fifth grade, a new classmate named Jack joined us. He was often late for class and had a strange smell on him, which made the girls not want to be “neighbors” with him, let alone sit next to him. It is said that once, a naughty boy curiously opened his backpack and many crushed soda cans and empty drink bottles that we usually throw into the trash fell out. Therefore, the boys in our class mocked (嘲笑) him as the “trash king”.
Later, during a class meeting, our teacher, Ms. Zhang, told us about his story of using garbage to make inventions. It turns out that Jack is not an ordinary elementary school student, but a “garbage-inspired inventor” who has won the city invention award. According to Ms. Zhang, most of his inventions were picked up from garbage dumps (堆). During that class meeting, Jack showed us his invention of a“domestic wastewater separation system”.
Afterwards, some of us became deeply interested in these small inventions and started to admire Jack’s way of “picking up trash”. We even joined him in picking up trash on weekends and during holidays. From then on, we no longer called him the “trash king“. Instead, we formed a group of five boys and actively searched for usable materials in various garbage dumps around the city. Under Jack’s guidance, we learned that there are many uses for seemingly useless trash. Once, we stayed at school to process the collected materials. Jack mentioned that he was facing a problem with his latest invention—a small cart for buying vegetables that needed to be lightweight. All other materials were solved except for the wheels. How could we find a suitable material for the wheels? We racked our brains (绞尽脑汁) and came up with different ideas, such as using soda cans or taking off the wheels from suitcases. However, Jack reminded us that our group should focus on making inventions from waste rather than causing damage to create them. We were all deep in thought.

5.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
SHOULD WE FIGHT NEW TECHNOLOGY?
This morning, I saw the shocking headline: “Passenger Dies When Car Crashes in Driverless Mode”. In the article, various people said that the public should oppose the idea of developing driverless cars. They said that some advances in technology were unnecessary and could even be dangerous. Hence, we should cease accepting technology just because it is new. The newspaper reported that the car company had already apologized for the accident, but the families of the deceased said it was not enough. Nevertheless, the company still claimed that most people would be travelling in driverless cars one day soon.
On the one hand, there are many different groups of people around the world who live happily in the absence of new technology. Probably the most well-known are the Amish, a group of Christians living in rural America. They do not own or drive cars, watch TV, or use the Internet. They have lived mainly as farmers since the 18th century and they will probably be living the same way in the distant future. They advocate a simple life with an emphasis on hard work, family, and community. They think that is better than caring about luxuries or following the lives of the rich and famous. It could even be argued that the Amish’s quality of life is better since they live in and appreciate the natural environment rather than living in large, polluted cities.

Social networking dominates our life in so many ways. I am the one who is addicted to it. Sometimes I set deadlines for myself : I will start doing my homework at 8 pm and finish it in two hours. At 7:50 pm, I’m scrolling through my friends’ silly posts and photos. Before I know it, it’s 9:30 pm and I haven’t moved an inch from the sofa. I download song after song, video after video, but I’m not really paying attention. The stimulation is in chasing after the next song or video rather than truly enjoying it. Since I spend so much time socialising online, I keep delaying things that are important in my real life: homework, tasks, my good friends and so on. Especially, I miss connecting with my family members in a meaningful way. So it is with my sister.注意:

“A nursing home would be safer, Dad,” Arlyn told her father, Jim.
“No way,” Jim interrupted. His wife had passed away just a year before. At 91, he still wanted to remain in the cottage he and his wife had built.
Jim started experiencing an early sign of Alzheimer’s disease. Arlyn found his decline was indeed all-consuming. However, she herself was in her late sixties; her house was a 40-minute drive from the cottage. One day, when she read about a new eldercare service called Care. coach, it fueled her interest. For about $200 a month, a computerized avatar (头像) (controlled remotely by a human caregiver) would watch over a home-bound person 24 hours a day. She signed up immediately.
A week later, a tablet arrived. Following the instructions, Arlyn uploaded dozens of family pictures. Then an animated dog appeared on the screen. She presented the tablet to Jim, pointing to the screen pet, and said excitedly, “Here Dad. You have a new companion.” Jim, doubtful about the dog’s service, knew he had to learn how to get along with the dog before Alzheimer’s took hold.
Within a week, Jim and his dog, whom he named Pony, settled into a routine. Every 15 minutes or so, Pony would look for Jim calling his name if he was out of view. Sometimes Jim would “pet” to awake the sleeping Pony on screen. Pony reminded Jim which caretaker would be visiting to do the tasks: preparing meals, driving him to a senior center, etc. Pony would read poetry aloud or discuss the news. When Pony praised Jim’s sweater, Jim repaid by petting Pony’s screen with his finger sending hearts floating up from the dog’s head. One evening when Arlyn came to visit her father as usual, she was amazed to find that Pony was holding up a photo of her late mum to her dad between its paws.

Back in the early 1980s, the idea of home computers was catching on. I wasn't keen on getting one. Somehow, I evolved and have owned several computers over the years. Some days, I loved my computer, but more often than not, I hated it. I didn't grow up with them, and they were a challenge to my mental health. Dealing with modern technology was my introduction to stress, and I know who to blame: my children.
They weren't satisfied that their dad and I finally bought a computer and learned to send e-mails. We were quite happy with that, but next came a cellphone. Then just talking on the phone was not acceptable; they insisted we learn to text as well. We couldn't get a break.
I remember well the night that Facebook became a household word around here. Those kids of ours were determined to set up a joint account for us. It took some convincing. We felt no guilt for grating on (激怒) their nerves considering the drama they’d sometimes created for us during their teenage years. A little payback wouldn't hurt those two.
More recently, my husband and I were forced into getting rid of our flip phones and getting smartphones. I will admit that I progressed into appreciating mine. I liked speaking to Siri and finding out what I needed to know in an instant. I enjoyed having Internet access everywhere I went. I felt a sense of accomplishment; my husband-not so much. To this day, he would happily take back his flip phone.
Last Christmas, our children surprised us with yet another popular form of technology-Alexa. The girls took our smartphones in hand and got us programmed. Before we fully understood what was happening, we could tell Alexa to turn our lamp on or off, and she would. To be honest, we were a bit annoyed at having to learn how to use yet another device, but we decided to keep it. We mastered turning the lamp on and off, and once again I got the hang of it sooner than my husband did. I became his Alexa coach.

9.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Grandma Agnes is ninety-nine years old and still lives in the same house she’s lived in for more than sixty years. She was one of thirteen children raised on a farm, and now, she is rather set in her ways. For twelve years, Grandma Agnes enjoyed the company of her dog, Snoopy. The black-and-white spotted mutt (杂种狗) was a constant presence in her home and yard. As time went on, Grandma Agnes began showing signs of dementia (阿尔茨海默病). My family worked together to keep her living independently yet safe.
It was heartbreaking for my dad when he removed the battery from her car to prevent her from driving with her still-valid license. After that, every visit ended with Grandma insisting he buy her a new battery, claiming hers was “dead again.” Dad would no d and promise, though he knew she’d forget.
Three years ago, Snoop y passed away. My dad, Aunt Carol, and Uncle Ed tried to help Grandma understand. They held a small funeral in the backyard. Uncle Ed framed a photo of Snoopy with “Rest in Peace” written below and stuck it on the fridge. Yet during daily visits, Grandma still asked about Snoopy, accusing neighbors of stealing him because she “heard his barking.”
Caring for someone with dementia is emotionally exhausting. For years, Dad warned me before each visit: “She might not recognize you or your kids.” We’d patiently answer the same questions repeatedly. Grandma Agnes is still stubbornly independent, but she struggles to make sense of the world. Still, she insists on living alone and never stops asking about Snoopy.

10.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
When Cynthia was a young girl, a screening of Star Wars changed her life. The adorable R2-D2 in the movie inspired her dream of creating a robot friend.
College was a challenging start. She struggled with difficult engineering courses and failed a robotics exam. Instead of giving up, she spent countless nights in the library, devoted to her studies. Eventually, she graduated with an engineering degree.
After graduation, she joined a team under a famous robotics professor to develop a planet-exploring robot. They faced numerous difficulties, especially disagreements within the team on the design. Cynthia firmly insisted on her ideas and finally, they overcame the barriers. However, when the robot was completed, Cynthia realized it lacked the function of companionship she had pictured.
Determined to create a truly friendly robot, Cynthia focused on a project for hospitalized children. She visited local hospitals, had in-depth discussions with medical staff and consulted several child psychologists. These experts shared their insights on children’s emotional needs during hospitalization, such as the importance of consistent companionship and the role of positive distractions (分心的事物). Equipped with them, Cynthia began the creation of Huggable, a teddy-bear-shaped robot.
During its development, Cynthia faced financial shortages. She spent months presenting her project to various investors, suffering countless rejections. But her passion and determination paid off when a local tech-enthusiast learned about her vision and provided the necessary funds. A partner’s departure also left her short-handed, but she reached out to former classmates and brought in a new, devoted team member. Now, Huggable is in a local children’s hospital, bringing comfort to young patients.
However, as Huggable’s influence grew, so did controversy (争议). Some people worried that relying too much on a robot for comfort might affect children’s normal emotional and social development. They argued that children needed real-human interaction to learn communication skills. Articles and comments against Huggable started appearing on the Internet. Soon, the hospital received calls from concerned parents, demanding an explanation.

I was so happy that I had earned my service hours in this way.
【参考范文】
As they came in my direction, I put on my brightest and happiest smile. I wanted to make them know that I was really anxious to help them. To my relief, they smiled politely back at me when they saw my smile, and I could see their exhaustion in their eyes. I wanted to know what they were going through and I was desperate to know what I could do for them. They nodded gratefully as I pushed my spoon into the pot and took a large spoonful and poured it into their bowls.
I was so happy that I had earned my service hours in this way. This experience made me realize that there are so many people in this world who need our help. It also made me realize that our small act of kindness can make them feel warm and make a great difference to them. I will never forget the way they looked at me when they were given food. I am anxious to urge the world to do everything possible to help those in need.

第二部分 模拟演练(10篇)
1.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

To celebrate the success of the initiative, a grand neighborhood picnic was organized. The community was filled with laughter and happiness as families and friends gathered together. Colorful blankets were spread out, and everyone brought their favorite dishes to share. The elderly sat together, talking about the past and sharing stories of wisdom and experience. It was a symbol of unity and the strong bond that had formed among them. From that day forward, the small neighborhood became well-known. Their story touched the hearts of people far and wide.
As time went on, even the younger generation realized the importance of helping others. The neighborhood children started volunteering. As weeks turned into months, the bond between the children and the elderly grew stronger. They not only read books together but also engaged in various games and activities. The children learned valuable life lessons from their elderly friends, who shared their experiences and offered guidance. In this little part of the world, the kindness of the community made a big difference to the lives of elderly people who felt alone. Their positive impact will be felt by future generations.

It was 3 a. m. when the flood came on an unseasonably warm night in June.

Soon, all over town, people took action jointly to clean up the whole mess. Volunteer groups, of which Roberts and her husband were members, worked quickly to clear out a space within hours. People offered their vacation homes to the homeless at no charge due to the floods. Restaurant owners organized a gift card group for people to buy gift cards from local businesses to donate to affected residents. Although the collapsed houses were not built yet, everything was slowly improving in harmony and order.
More than a year later, Red Lodge began to take on a new look. In the spring, Roberts finally moved back home, with a freshly poured concrete foundation. The displaced people all returned. The houses were stronger, the roads were wider, and the homes were more beautiful. The peaceful night’s sleep was restored. After joint efforts with others, Roberts was no longer new to Red Lodge, but the builder and owner. “I’m blessed,” said Roberts. “People here are more like family members, braving difficulties together. ”

In the darkness, they supported each other and went upstairs step by step with the light of the flashlight. The water had already seeped into the stairwell, making each step slippery and dangerous. Mary clung tightly to her parents’hands, her heart pounding with a mix of fear and determination. When they finally reached Mrs. Thomson’s door, Dad knocked gently but firmly. After what felt like an eternity, the door creaked open, revealing Mrs. Thomson’s frightened face. “Thank goodness you’re here!” she whispered, her voice trembling. They quickly helped her gather her essential belongings and led her back downstairs to their apartment, where they all huddled together, finding comfort in each other's presence.
Suddenly, a bunch of searching light from a rescue boat flashed across Mrs. Thomson’s window. “Look!” Mary exclaimed, pointing excitedly. Dad grabbed the flashlight and waved it back and forth, signaling for help. Within minutes, they heard the sound of voices and the gentle lapping of the boat against the building. The rescue team arrived just in time, helping them all into the boat and to safety. As they sailed away from the flooded apartment, Mary looked back, feeling grateful for the bravery and love that had kept them together through the storm.

Finally, we made next Sunday the cleaning day and spread the news to more kids in our community. Equipped with long-handled scoops, waterproof boots, and garbage bins, we gathered around the pond. Everyone was full of energy, ready to take on the challenge. We carefully scooped up rubbish from the water surface, while others collected litter on the banks. As we worked, a sense of unity and purpose filled the air. After hours of hard work, the pond was transformed. The water started to regain its clarity, and the bad smell disappeared. Seeing our work, we felt a great sense of achievement, knowing that we had made a real difference to our community.
Several days later, I received an invitation from our community committee. In the invitation was a sentence, saying “You have been elected the Environmental Protection Guardian of our community and will be invited to make a short speech in the Award Ceremony next week.” I was so pleased that I shared the good news with my mother. “I’m proud of you, my child,” she said with tears. I still remember the unforgettable day when I stood on the stage expressing my ideas, a great round of applause drowned me. As a youth, I think it’s our responsibility to protect our environment.

Alex decided to take action. He reached out to local artists and musicians, proposing to host live events and art exhibitions alongside movie screenings. To generate buzz, he launched a social media campaign, sharing snippets of upcoming events and exclusive behind-the-scenes content. He also introduced themed movie nights, offering special discounts on tickets and concessions. Despite initial skepticism, the community began to respond positively. Families and young couples started showing up, intrigued by the unique offerings.
Word spread, and soon, the theater saw a steady increase in attendance. Alex’s efforts paid off as the theater became a hub for community gatherings once again. The challenge now was to maintain this momentum and continue to innovate. He organized a series of Q&A sessions with filmmakers and actors, attracting larger crowds and generating more interest. The theater was alive once more, and Alex felt a sense of pride and accomplishment.

Then one morning, Hank came into the cafe, something in hand. It was the very signboard. “I caught it in my nets this morning,” Hank winked, “I told you — not the end of our story.” My fingers traced those beloved words. Grabbing a cloth, I carefully cleaned each letter, wiping away the storm salt. Then I nailed the sign firmly beside the doorway. The sharp sound of the hammer seemed to wake the sleeping cafe.
With the signboard hanging there again, the rebuilding work began. Hank helped me remove the damaged floor. Local artists covered the water stains on the walls with colorful ocean scenes. And shell collectors carefully arranged their best finds along the windowsills. Many hands not just made light work but created a miracle! The cafe came alive! “The usual, Mike.” Hank joked, making a victory gesture in the air, which truly brought The Lighthouse back. It’s definitely a guiding light for ship — our friendship! Our community stories continued。.

Max ran to fetch some trash bags from his nearby home. Ava and Sam started collecting the larger pieces of garbage first, like the chip bags and plastic bottles. As they worked, Ava hummed a little tune, and the others joined in. Their laughter and songs filled the park, making the cleanup seem more like a fun game.
Unexpectedly, other parkgoers joined in as they did the cleanup. An elderly couple, who were taking a stroll, saw what they were doing and decided to lend a hand. A group of kids playing nearby also came over, eager to help make the park clean again. With more people joining, the cleanup went much faster. Before long, the playground was clean once more. The slides and swings sparkled in the sun, and the grassy fields were free of trash. Max, Ava, and Sam looked at each other, beaming with pride. They realized that with everyone’s effort, they could make a difference and keep their beloved park beautiful.

“How did you possibly do that by yourself, Mark?” Jessica asked. People who know Mark must never ask him such a question. But Mark felt like every customer in the store wanted to hear something from him even without Jessica’s asking. So Mark gladly replied and wrote in social media. Firstly, he moved the trash out and checked unsafe places. Then he called professional people to fix the structural damage. Finally, he decorated the building with new things.
Mark’s grocery store became more than just a place for the residents to buy their daily necessities. Mark’s store became a place, which brought people together. It became a place where neighbours could chat over coffee, kids could buy sweets, and the elderly could find friendly faces. The store’s success encouraged other people to open shops, and the Lower Ninth Ward began to regain its energy. Mark’s store became a symbol of hope and a catalyst for the neighborhood’s rebirth.

Meanwhile, Bishop was crazy and desperate. She would pull Russell up one step, only to see the water rise with them. Her nervousness was comforted by Russell’s funny behavior. Grabbing the banister, he counted the pictures on the wall. “Look, Darcy: one, two, three, four.” “That’s very good, Russ” Bishop said with tears rolling down her cheeks. It took them a good hour, but they finally made it up eight steps to the first small landing, then three steps to the second, and then a handful of steps more. She sat down beside him, and waited.
At around 6:30 p. m., Russell said, “Somebody’s downstairs.” Full of hope, Bishop called out, “Hello?! Hello?! Who’s there?” It was her neighbour, Hance Walters. Learning she was in trouble, Walters went to his house and fetched a boat. Bishop tried to bring her brothers outside. There, they were lifted into the boats. Todd and Russell were safe. They have not said much about the sufferings they survived, only saying that they wanted things to return to normal. “I don’t want no more hurricane” they both repeated.

Together, we worked to find a safe place to take shelter. We found a nearby park that was relatively undamaged in the earthquake, and started to set up camp there. We used whatever materials we could find to build temporary shelters and shared our resources with each other. Over the next few days, we worked together to survive. We rationed our food and water we found, and took turns keeping a watch out for any signs of danger. We built a sense of community, and tried to support each other through the trauma of the earthquake.
Eventually, after a few days, help arrived, and we were brought to safety. Looking back on the experience, I realized that I had never felt more alive. Staying calm and working together can make all the difference. I had survived an earthquake, and I had done it with the help of others. It is a reminder that even in the darkest times, there is always hope. I have learned the lesson from this experience and I will use it to prepare for any further disasters that might come my way.

The team’s eyes lit up. They spent the next few days working tirelessly, programming the robot to recognize visual cues and adjust its path accordingly. They also integrated a simplified version of GPS technology, using the school’s Wi-Fi network to help the robot triangulate its position. It was a blend of old and new ideas, and it worked like a charm.
When the competition day arrived, Emily’s team was nervous but confident. Their robot navigated the course perfectly, adapting to obstacles and hitting every target with precision. The judges were impressed, and the team took first place. As they celebrated joyfully, Mr. Carter reminded them, “The key to solving any problem is to stay curious and open-minded. Sometimes, the best solutions come from looking at things from a different angle.” The robotics club’s victory became a legend at Greenfield High School, inspiring other students to tackle their challenges with creativity and teamwork.

【参考范文】
Determined to fight back, Sarah joined forces with Elvis to get out of the trouble bravely. First, they carefully analyzed the strange email and the video, looking for any clues that might lead them to the culprit. They also contacted the police, providing all the evidence they had. Meanwhile, Sarah started to document every strange occurrence around her. Elvis, on the other hand, delved into the technology behind the AI pet, trying to find out if there were any loopholes that could have been exploited. They worked day and night, not letting fear stop them.
After a lot of joint efforts with the police, the problem was finally solved. The police traced the source of the email to a hacker who had been targeting users of the AI pet. He had found a way to hack into the device’s camera even when it was turned off. The hacker was arrested, and Sarah felt a huge weight lifted off her shoulders. From then on, Sarah cherished Lucky more than ever. She realized that real - life connections and the love of a living being were far more valuable than any artificial creation. She also became more cautious about using AI products, always making sure her privacy was protected.

It was 3 a.m. when the flood came on an unseasonably warm night in June.

Suddenly, a loud alarm rang through the house. Gabriel’s gas detection robot had sensed the leak and sprung into action. The shrill sound jolted his mother from her TV reverie, her heart pounding as she realized the danger they were in. Quickly, she rushed to the kitchen, turned off the gas, and opened all the windows to let the fresh air disperse the dangerous fumes. As the alarm ceased, she stood there, breathing a sigh of relief, suddenly understanding the significance of Gabriel’s invention. It wasn’t just a toy or a useless machine; it was a lifesaver.
Gabriel’s mother held the robot gently in her arms, waiting for Gabriel to get back from school. She couldn’t wait to tell him how his creation had prevented a potential tragedy. When Gabriel finally walked through the door, his mother greeted him with tears in her eyes and a smile on her face. “Gabriel, you were right,” she said, hugging him tightly. “This robot isn’t just a hobby; it’s something that can protect us, make our lives safer. I’m sorry I didn’t see it before.” Gabriel’s heart swelled with pride and joy. From that day on, his mother became his biggest supporter, encouraging him to pursue his passion for robotics and recognizing the value of his inventions in making the world a better, safer place.

As Anne put on the Guardian Companion, Hemesh explained how it worked. He reassured her that it would help keep her safe. With a mixture of curiosity and skepticism, Anne agreed to give it a try. The device fit comfortably on her wrist. Hemesh walked his grandmother through the features, showing her how to use the panic button. Anne’s eyes lit up with a glimmer of hope, and for the first time since her diagnosis, she felt a sense of regained independence.
In the next few weeks, the device made a difference to Anne and her family. Not only did it provide a sense of security for Anne, but it also relieved the constant worry for her loved ones. The device brought peace of mind to the entire family, knowing that Anne was protected even when they couldn’t be by her side. Hemesh’s creation had truly transformed dementia care, and he found himself on a new mission to make the device accessible to as many people as possible, ensuring that no one had to face the challenges of Alzheimer’s disease alone.

When I got home and drank a bottle of water, I suddenly had an idea. What if we could use bottle caps as wheels for Jack’s vegetable cart? It seemed like a simple solution, but it could work if we found enough bottle caps. Excited, I shared my idea with the group the next day. Jack’s eyes lit up with enthusiasm as he realized the potential of this suggestion. We immediately set out to collect as many bottle caps as we could find, scouring not only the garbage dumps but also asking friends and family to save them for us.
Jack indeed adopted my suggestion and fixed a row of bottle caps as wheels on his vegetable cart. It was a moment of triumph for all of us, seeing our collective efforts and creativity come to fruition. The cart rolled smoothly, and we celebrated our success with high-fives and laughter. This experience taught us the power of collaboration, innovation, and looking beyond the surface of things. Inspired by Jack’s ingenuity, our group continued to explore ways to repurpose waste, knowing that small actions could lead to big changes in our community and beyond.

On a family holiday last summer, my sister spent all her time complaining that she needed to charge her phone. It was then that I realized how much social networking had become a part of our daily lives. Even a midst the beauty of nature, we found it difficult to disconnect from the virtual world and engage with our surroundings. My sister and I often laughed about videos we found hilarious, but we hardly ever laughed over our own jokes anymore. We were in the same space yet miles apart, engrossed in our own virtual communities.
Then my father recently declared that every Sunday would be “No Screen Sunday” in our home. This new rule meant we had an entire day to ourselves without any screens, which initially seemed impossible. But as weeks passed by, we found ourselves looking forward to these Sundays. The rich and uninterrupted conversations we had, the board games we played, the meals we cooked and ate together, everything felt so real and warm. No Screen Sundays may not have completely removed our dependency on social media, but it certainly helped us value what was more important in life - spending quality time with our loved ones.

Jim stared at the photo fondly, with tears welling up in his eyes. Memories flashed through Jim’s mind. It had been more than a year since his wife’s death and hardly had he mentioned her anymore. That day, though, he gazed at the photo affectionately and declared emotionally, “I still love her”. Sensing Jim’s sadness, Pony sent hearts to Jim on the screen and comforted him. Uplifted by Pony’s loving remarks, Jim petted Pony’ screen with his finger sending hearts floating up from the dog’s head again. Pony responded with its tail wagging cheerfully. Arlyn sat in silence, with an illusion of slipping back to the old happy days.
Seeing the close bond between Pony and her dad, Arlyn felt a relief. She was amazed at Pony’s heart-warming service and her dad’s fondness for Pony. Pony was more than just a virtual companion; rather, he had become a member of the family, a loyal friend who had helped them through the tough times. With time going by, Arlyn noticed the improvement in her father’s cognitive ability and mood, and he got more engaged in conversations. Arlyn was grateful to Pony. Knowing that Pony was not a substitute for human interaction, she resolved to cherish every moment with her dad, for the presence of loved ones was crucial.

One night, Alexa did not turn on the lamp when I gave the command. I tried to say “Turn on the light” to it countless times, but Alexa didn’t work. “New technologies are always unreliable.” my husband complained. I searched the Internet and immediately found the reason why Alex couldn’t work. I just needed to tell Alex to set the light color to white or whatever color I wanted, and then it would turn on the light. Then Alex turned on the light itself.
We should thank our children and grandchildren. It was our children and grandchildren that taught us to use technology so that I could find a solution on the Internet by myself. Without them, our life is always invariable and boring. Our children and grandchildren “force” us to accept and use technology, which seems to put us under pressure. However, the fact is that our children and grandchildren let us really accept and use technology to make our life more convenient.

A few months ago, Uncle Ed came up with a good idea and bought a robotic dog for Grandma Agnes. The new Snoopy looked almost the same as the old one, with black-and-white fur and a wagging tail. When Grandma touched its head, the robot barked softly and rubbed against her hand. “Oh, Snoopy! You’re back!” she cried, holding it close. From that day on, she “fed” it every morning and talked to it while sitting in the yard. Though the robotic dog couldn’t run or play, its programmed warmth seemed to comfort her. She stopped accusing the neighbors and even smiled more often.
Everyone was pleased that Grandma Agnes liked “Snoopy” a lot. Last Sunday, I visited her with Dad. She didn’t recognize me, but she cheerfully introduced her “good boy” to us. The robotic dog sat beside her, its head resting on her lap as she hummed an old song. Dad whispered, “Technology may not cure her illness, but it gives her peace.” Watching Grandma gently stroke the robot’s fur, I realized how something as simple as a machine could reconnect her to lost love and memories. Science, in its own quiet way, had become a bridge between her fading world and the care we longed to provide.

Facing controversy, Cynthia stood firm, ready to respond positively. She organized a public meeting, inviting those child psychologists she consulted, doctors, and some young patients. A psychologist stated, “Huggable is a great emotional release for children in hospital. It helps them deal with fear and loneliness.” Doctors also showed how Huggable could monitor children’s vital signs while entertaining them, which was a huge help during treatment. Some young patients came on stage, sharing how they played and talked with Huggable. Their enthusiasm convinced the audience, gradually changing their negative views.
Encouraged by the successful meeting, Cynthia focused on making Huggable even better. She led her team to dive back into research, cooperating with child psychologists again. They added more interactive features, like telling personalized stories based on children’s interests. They also improved Huggable’s appearance, making it look even more like a real teddy bear. With these improvements, Huggable became even more popular in the hospital. It offered children consistent companionship and helped them grow healthily. Seeing Huggable’s positive impact, Cynthia felt a deep sense of fulfillment. Her childhood dream of creating a robot friend was steadily becoming a reality.
