also believe ⑥that many dinosaurs had bright colors. But ⑦why the dinosaurs came into extinction is still a mystery. 连接代词 what, which, who, whom, whose, whatever, whichever, whoever, whomever等,在从句中作主语、宾语、表语、定语 连接副词 when, where, how, why等,在从句中作状语 从属连词 that, whether,if,as if/though等,在从句中不作成分 特点:名词性从句要用陈述语序,即:连接词+主语+谓语 At present I know how I can apply theory to practice. What I should do now is grasp the precious chance. That they should get well prepared for their future is obvious to the students. =It is obvious to the students that they should get well prepared for their future. Whether he will succeed remains to be seen. =It remains to be seen whether he will succeed. It is uncertain whether/if he will attend the meeting on time. 若用it作形式主语,则whether与if可互换。 2. Why the fire broke out is still unknown. =It is still unknown why the fire broke out. How he can learn to appreciate Chinese culture remains an important goal for him. Which is the best of all those ways is uncertain. What she did after that is not clear to us. It is a pity that she has made such a silly mistake. It is very important that a student (should) learn English well. It is suggested that the meeting (should) be put off. It seems that he is not quite himself today. His tutor explained (that) he should read more books. I will do what/whatever I can (do) to help him. I wonder whether/if they will come to our party. She asked me whose handwriting was the best in the class. A modern city has been set up in what was once a wasteland. It depends on how we solve the problem. I have made it clear that I will not accept this job. I hate it when people ask me for money. I would appreciate it if you could consider my application. (1)He told me (that) he had two sons and that they had both gone to college. (2)I’m thinking of whether we should go to see the film. I can’t say whether or not they can come tomorrow. She didn’t know whether to go or to stay. (2)作介词宾语、与or not或不定式连用时,只用whether不用if。 同位语从句通常由that引导,也可由whether引导,或由连接代词(what, which, who, whose等)和连接副词(when, where, why, how等)引导。 The news that they had won the game soon spread over the whole school. He hasn’t made the decision whether he will go there. I have no idea where he lives. The question who should do the job requires consideration. He told me the news that our team won.(同位语从句) He told me the news that was exciting.(定语从句) 四、表语从句(在复合句中作表语,位于系动词之后)(具体用法讲解见Unit 1) The trouble is that I have lost his address. I was very angry. That was because he didn’t come. (强调原因) He didn’t come. That was why I was very angry. (强调结果) The reason why I was very angry was that he didn’t come. The question is Dr.Sophia Roberts,30,is a general surgery resident physician at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St.Louis,Missouri.Her dad,Dr.Harold Roberts Jr.,66,has been practicing medicine for the last 32 years. In May,Roberts and his daughter teamed up for an aortic valve(主动脉瓣) replacement. “I told Sophia that I had this case coming and she went out and read about it.And she’d never seen it,much less assisted on it,” Harold Roberts recalled. Even though the case was new to her,Sophia Roberts jumped at the chance. She had wanted to spend a month learning and operating with her surgeon father back in 2020,but their plans fell through for all kinds of reasons. So this was the shot she’d been waiting for. When the day came,Harold Roberts was pleased to have his eldest child by his side and said it was a “really nice thing” to work together with her.The elder Roberts said his daughter helped open the patient’s chest and “she did a great job”.“It was really very smooth.I wouldn’t have done the case any better if I had another heart surgeon assisting me,” he said. Sophia Roberts, who served as her dad’s first assistant, said it was a memorable experience but also said once the surgery got underway, she was in the zone. “It’s very special that I was operating with him,but quite frankly,I could have been operating with anyone—like all of a sudden, you’re just focused on that patient and making the operation go smoothly,” she said. Harold and Sophia Roberts reported their patient has done great since the surgery and was even excited the father-daughter team would be taking care of her. 1.What can we know from paragraph 2? And smallness makes all the difference.First, these groups have a sense of cohesion(凝聚性).The members have joined specifically to talk to people with whom they share an enthusiasm. That creates a type of social glue,a context and a mutual respect that can’t exist on a highly public site like Twitter, where anyone can crash any public conversation. More important, small groups typically have people who work to keep interactions polite.Sometimes this will be the organizer or an active,long-term participant. They’ll greet newcomers to make them feel welcome, draw out quiet people and solve conflict when they see it emerge. But what’s crucial is that these key members model good behavior, illustrating by example the community’s best standards. The Internet thinkers Heather Gold,Kevin Marks and Deb Schultz put a name to this: “tummeling,” after the Yiddish “tummeler,” who keeps a party going. None of these positive elements can exist in a massive, public social network, where millions of people can get into each other’s spaces. That’s why perhaps the single biggest problem facing social media is that our mainstream networks are too interested in scale. But scale breaks social relations. Is there any way to approach this problem? I’ve never heard of any simple solution.Strict antitrust laws for the big networks would be useful,to encourage competition among networks. But this likely wouldn’t fully solve the problem of scale, since many users fancy scale too.Longing for massive, global audiences, they will crowd into whichever site offers the hugest. Many of the well-known solutions to social media might help, but all ignore the biggest problem of all: Bigness itself. 5.Why do members from small online groups get along well? A.They are familiar with each other. B.They are mostly highly educated. C.They know the importance of safety. D.They have some shared hobbies. 根据第二段中“The members have joined specifically to talk to people with whom they share an enthusiasm. That creates a type of social glue”可推知,小型社交网络的成员有一些共同的爱好,所以他们能相处得很好。故选D。 6.Which of the following belongs to “tummeling”? A.A person organizes a successful birthday party. B.A newcomer joins an organization. C.An active team member starts a conflict. D.A conversation organizer encourages others to speak. 根据第三段中“The Internet thinkers Heather Gold,Kevin Marks and Deb Schultz put a name to this: ‘tummeling,’ after the Yiddish ‘tummeler,’ who keeps a party going.”可推知,tummeling是指组织派对并让其顺利进行,所以“A person organizes a successful birthday party.”属于tummeling。故选A。 7.What is the author’s attitude to large social networks getting polite? A.Favorable. B.Pessimistic. C.Curious. D.Uncaring. 根据最后一段中“Is there any way to approach this problem? I’ve never heard of any simple solution.”和“Many of the well-known solutions to social media might help, but all ignore the biggest problem of all: Bigness itself.” B。 8.What can be the best title for the text? A.Inappropriate Behavior Online B.The Small Things That Truly Matter C.Online Communities That Actually Work D.Different Types of Social Networks 答案 C 解析 标题归纳题。 Ⅱ.完形填空(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) I still remember that day clearly.I zipped past(快速闪过) my father cleaning the table.Seconds later,I zipped past him again.Minutes later,I was 1 wrapping Allyson’s birthday gifts while ordering a cake for her coming party. As soon as I finished the 2 ,I glanced up and met Dad’s disapproving look. “You are too 3 and stressed, honey,” he said, sitting in a chair, watching The Price Is Right.“You need to 4 and enjoy life a little more.” He was 5 .And at that moment,I realized I had been totally 6 Dad in order to finish all of the 7 on my to-do list. All Dad wanted me to do was sit down and spend some time with him.So I did.I knew the present-wrapping could 8 and the cake could be ordered later.I sat down and watched The Price Is Right with Dad.It was his 9 .We laughed and talked.I’m so glad that I didn’t miss that special last time with my dad 10 that to-do list.Daddy passed away a few months later, but his words of wisdom remain with me.
