"Lei ming m ming baak ngo gong ge waa ah?Do you understand what I am saying?'I stare back at
the speaker dumbly,my lips parted, the ideas clear in my mind but a response unable to express itself in a
language in my distant range. After an uncomfortable pause,a bunch of words spill out of my mouth, sounding
forced and unnatural.
The anecdote (above is a semi-conversation I had in Malaysia years ago.A three-week stay in
Malaysia once every few years was often the highlight of my summers-what more can you ask from a food
paradise? But besides the family, food, and escape that Malaysia offered, trips also brought accompanying
feelings of guilt that I just couldn't seem to translate. For one month every few summers,I got a taste of what it
feels to be an outsider in my own culture, peering in.I was a girl lost in translation, passively absorbing the
various tongues shouted between the stalls (in the wet markets, quietly nodding (along at my
grandparents'huge family dinners.
In America though,I am a different person.I don't think twice about my grammar when speaking.I don't
struggle with the words and fear that my logic and stories won't get through to people. So as a native English
speaker,I do not have to worry daily about whether I'm judged for having an accent or whether I'm
misunderstood across languages. In Malaysia,I naturally burst out"have you eaten?instead of recalling the
Malaysian words "you makan already?'In Malaysia,everything about the way I speak-my accent,intonation
(语调),sentence structure,slang(俚语)一gives me away.My American-ness is seen in the way I talk,dress,
and act.Maybe my face could pass for a Malaysian local, but once I open my mouth to speak I am so clearly
not.It is uncomfortable and awkward, and sometimes I wonder if I did not look Asian at all would it be better,
since there would be no more language expectation for me than for a white tourist.
24.How did the author feel in the anecdote?
A.Confused and scared.
B.Embarrassed and uncomfortable.
C.Curious and surprised.
D.Upset and puzzled.
25.Why did the author feel guilt according to Paragraph 2?
A.Because she had to stay away from her family
B.Because she didn't enjoy speaking the language
C.Bccause she had to accept what grandparents said
D.Because she found it hard to understand the culture.
26.What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.The author avoids speaking in Malaysia.B.The author feels trapped by language.
C.The author prefers American identity.
D.The author's face causes confusion.
27.What does the text mainly talk about?
A.Food culture in Malaysia.
B.A girl between two cultures.
C.Challenges from learning Malay language.
D.Differences between American and Malaysian cultures.

"My favorite thing about hiking is that I get to work out my legs,"said Skylar,a six-year-old camper.
"And I get to see the view!"Skylar is one of twenty kids participating in the week-long Gross Out Camp,a
summer program hosted at parks and outdoor spaces across Alabama."This is kids'natural habitat out here in
the woods,"said Verna Gates, who started Gross Out Camp 14 years ago.
As schools begin again across Alabama, most students are returning to days spent in indoor classrooms,
but some will continue to learn and play outside, even while at school. It's part of a growing movement to
teach kids in nature and help them connect with their environment.
In recent years,at least three nature preschools,or forest schools, have been opened across Alabama.
They operate almost entirely outside. In these forest schools, students gain knowledge from every activity. The
class might discover a turtle walking along the forest floor at the Kreher Preserve Nature Center, where the
school is located. That offers an opportunity for students to talk about the animal's shape and color, and write
about their discovery.
After starting Woodland Wonders in 2019,Gates said word spread quickly. The school has since added
classes and programs for older kids, but they can't keep up with demand. It's a similar case at Little Mountain
Forest School, where kids learn and play at Monte Sano State Park.Co-founder Beth Barry said that both kids
and parents love the natural space.
Fellow co-founder and co-director Sarah Callaway said the most common question is about the weather.
They spend a lot of time reviewing proper clothing, because students are outside rain or shine."As a forest
school parent,it can be a pain in the behind to have to deal with your muddy and wet kid,"Callaway said."But
the kids love it.Those are some of the best days."
28.What can we learn about the summer program Gross Out Camp?
A.It's for outdoor lovers in Alabama.
B.It's for kids to learn about the environment.

29.What is the main focus of forest schools in Alabama?
A.Teaching kids about the weather and proper clothing.

D.Creating an environment for kids to make friends.
30.What is the parents'attitude to Woodland Wonders?

Virtue ()by definition,is the moral excellence of a person.Morally excellent people have a
character made up of virtues valued as good. They are honest, respectful, courageous, forgiving and kind, for
example. They do the right thing, and don't bend to impulses ()urges or desires, but act according to
values and principles. Some might say good qualities are inborn.Actually, virtues need to be developed. With
the habit of being virtuous,we can take control of our lives and move them in the direction of greater happiness
and fulfillment(满足).
Virtues are universal and recognized by all cultures as basic qualities of well-being.However,practicing
virtues is not easy.So often we know that it takes willpower to reach our goals, but we still never get there. We
know that if we forgive,we'll be less angry. We know it takes courage to accomplish great things. So why then,
if we know what to do,are we still stuck?
Because we have not yet consciously applied a virtue to a given situation so as to change its outcome
such as in these examples:kindness towards someone who is having a bad day can make him or her smile and
build rapport;trust in a relationship creates valuable, meaningful relationships;gratitude in a job loss can shift
our focus from feeling low to how we can have a more fulfilling, new career;service to others can change lives,
better neighborhoods and create stronger nations.
We know we are becoming more virtuous people, not only because of the above results but also because
of the way other people respond to us.Our friends,family,co-workers,and neighbors will trust and rely on us.
They will come to us for guidance and help. They will want to be around us because we inspire them to be
better people.Practicing virtues allows us to develop our potential, and live a more purposeful and better life.
32.What can we know about virtuous people from the first paragraph?
A.They are born with virtue.
B.They never make a mistake.
C.They have a habit of doing good.
D.They act according to their desires.
33.What is the second paragraph mainly about?
A.It's hard to practice virtues.
B.It's a virtue to forgive others.
C.It takes courage to achieve goals
D.Trust is necessary in a relationship.
34.What does the underlined word"rapport"mean in the third paragraph?
A.A friendly greeting.
B.A great discussion.
C.A good goodbye.
D.A close relationship.
35.What is the author's purpose in the last paragraph?
A.To encourage readers to be more virtuous.
B.To remind readers of living a purposeful life.
C.To explain how to become virtuous.
D.To introduce the feature of virtuous people.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
If sports are something that interests you,it stands to reason that you would want to be good at them.
However, there are other things you need to think about if you want to be a good sports player.
36-.
It's a common mistake for young athletes to want to jump into the advanced stuff quickly. This isn't an
effective way to spend training time. You need a firm basis before you move on to bigger things. If you're new
to a sport, take as much time as you need to get the basic movements down properly.37.
Get enough sleep.
This one should come as obvious. This is especially true during times of intense practice or training,
where things get so busy that it becomes hard to push everything into a regular day. However, your body needs
its full rest.38.Ifyou're an adult, get 7-9 hours of sleep each night.
Set ambitious but realistic goals for yourself.
Setting ambitious goals does not mean being unrealistic,or saying you're going to go professional
within a year.39,and figure out where you think you would like to be.Give yourself a suitable
amount of time to achieve that goal, and break it down into smaller parts if the goal is especially big.
Stay focused on the game.
You won't get anywhere if you're worried about something else happening in your life.Life is always
complex, and there may be things in your personal life that are bothering you. However,at least for the course
of the game, you can't let any of that stuff get to you.40.But if winning the game means a lot to you,
then you should keep your eyes on the prize.
A.Put basics first
B.Let yourself have fun
C.It may be easier said than done
D.Instead, you should take a look at what you are
E.This is especially true if you want to be a great coach
F.If you're a teen,you should sleep 8-10 hours each night
G.It will make advanced skills a lot easier to master in the long run

“Lei ming m ming baak ngo gong ge waa ah? Do you understand what I am saying?” I stare back at the speaker dumbly, my lips parted, the ideas clear in my mind but a response unable to express itself in a language in my distant range. After an uncomfortable pause, a bunch of words spill out of my mouth, sounding forced and unnatural.
The anecdote (轶事) above is a semi-conversation I had in Malaysia years ago. A three-week stay in Malaysia once every few years was often the highlight of my summers—what more can you ask from a food paradise? But besides the family, food, and escape that Malaysia offered, trips also brought accompanying feelings of guilt that I just couldn’t seem to translate. For one month every few summers, I got a taste of what it feels to be an outsider in my own culture, peering in. I was a girl lost in translation, passively absorbing the various tongues shouted between the stalls (摊位)in the wet markets, quietly nodding(点头)along at my grandparents’ huge family dinners.
In America though, I am a different person. I don’t think twice about my grammar when speaking. I don’t struggle with the words and fear that my logic and stories won’t get through to people. So as a native English speaker, I do not have to worry daily about whether I’m judged for having an accent or whether I’m misunderstood across languages. In Malaysia, I naturally burst out “have you eaten?” instead of recalling the Malaysian words “you makan already?” In Malaysia, everything about the way I speak—my accent, intonation(语调), sentence structure, slang(俚语)—gives me away. My American-ness is seen in the way I talk, dress, and act. Maybe my face could pass for a Malaysian local, but once I open my mouth to speak I am so clearly not. It is uncomfortable and awkward, and sometimes I wonder if I did not look Asian at all would it be better, since there would be no more language expectation for me than for a white tourist.
24.How did the author feel in the anecdote?
A.Confused and scared. B.Embarrassed and uncomfortable.
C.Curious and surprised. D.Upset and puzzled.
25.Why did the author feel guilt according to Paragraph 2?
A.Because she had to stay away from her family
B.Because she didn’t enjoy speaking the language
C.Bccause she had to accept what grandparents said
D.Because she found it hard to understand the culture.
26.What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.The author avoids speaking in Malaysia. B.The author feels trapped by language.
C.The author prefers American identity. D.The author’s face causes confusion.
27.What does the text mainly talk about?
A.Food culture in Malaysia.
B.A girl between two cultures.
C.Challenges from learning Malay language.
D.Differences between American and Malaysian cultures.

“My favorite thing about hiking is that I get to work out my legs,” said Skylar, a six-year-old camper. “And I get to see the view!” Skylar is one of twenty kids participating in the week-long Gross Out Camp, a summer program hosted at parks and outdoor spaces across Alabama. “This is kids’ natural habitat out here in the woods,” said Verna Gates, who started Gross Out Camp 14 years ago.
As schools begin again across Alabama, most students are returning to days spent in indoor classrooms, but some will continue to learn and play outside, even while at school. It’s part of a growing movement to teach kids in nature and help them connect with their environment.
In recent years, at least three nature preschools, or forest schools, have been opened across Alabama. They operate almost entirely outside. In these forest schools, students gain knowledge from every activity. The class might discover a turtle walking along the forest floor at the Kreher Preserve Nature Center, where the school is located. That offers an opportunity for students to talk about the animal’s shape and color, and write about their discovery.
After starting Woodland Wonders in 2019, Gates said word spread quickly. The school has since added classes and programs for older kids, but they can’t keep up with demand. It’s a similar case at Little Mountain Forest School, where kids learn and play at Monte Sano State Park. Co-founder Beth Barry said that both kids and parents love the natural space.
Fellow co-founder and co-director Sarah Callaway said the most common question is about the weather. They spend a lot of time reviewing proper clothing, because students are outside rain or shine. “As a forest school parent, it can be a pain in the behind to have to deal with your muddy and wet kid,” Callaway said. “But the kids love it. Those are some of the best days.”
28.What can we learn about the summer program Gross Out Camp?
A.It’s for outdoor lovers in Alabama.
B.It’s for kids to learn about the environment.
C.It’s for students to protect habitats.
D.It’s for kids to participate in outdoor activities.
29.What is the main focus of forest schools in Alabama?
A.Teaching kids about the weather and proper clothing.
B.Providing learning opportunities in the natural space.
C.Offering outdoor programs to older kids.
D.Creating an environment for kids to make friends.
30.What is the parents’ attitude to Woodland Wonders?
A.Indifferent. B.Doubtful. C.Supportive. D.Unclear.
31.Which can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Hiking: The Best Way to learn
B.Wood Wonders: Travel in Forests
C.Forest Schools: Learn in Nature
D.Indoor Lessons: The Kids’ Favorite

They are honest, respectful, courageous, forgiving and kind, for example. They do the right thing, and don’t bend to impulses(冲动), urges or desires, but act according to values and principles. Some might say good qualities are inborn. Actually, virtues need to be developed. With the habit of being virtuous, we can take control of our lives and move them in the direction of greater happiness and fulfillment(满足).
Virtues are universal and recognized by all cultures as basic qualities of well-being. However, practicing virtues is not easy. So often we know that it takes willpower to reach our goals, but we still never get there. We know that if we forgive, we’ll be less angry. We know it takes courage to accomplish great things. So why then, if we know what to do, are we still stuck?
Because we have not yet consciously applied a virtue to a given situation so as to change its outcome such as in these examples: kindness towards someone who is having a bad day can make him or her smile and build rapport; trust in a relationship creates valuable, meaningful relationships; gratitude in a job loss can shift our focus from feeling low to how we can have a more fulfilling, new career; service to others can change lives, better neighborhoods and create stronger nations.
We know we are becoming more virtuous people, not only because of the above results but also because of the way other people respond to us. Our friends, family, co-workers, and neighbors will trust and rely on us. They will come to us for guidance and help. They will want to be around us because we inspire them to be better people. Practicing virtues allows us to develop our potential, and live a more purposeful and better life.
32.What can we know about virtuous people from the first paragraph?
A.They are born with virtue. B.They never make a mistake.
C.They have a habit of doing good. D.They act according to their desires.
33.What is the second paragraph mainly about?
A.It’s hard to practice virtues. B.It’s a virtue to forgive others.
C.It takes courage to achieve goals. D.Trust is necessary in a relationship.
34.What does the underlined word “rapport” mean in the third paragraph?
A.A friendly greeting. B.A great discussion.
C.A good goodbye. D.A close relationship.
35.What is the author’s purpose in the last paragraph?
A.To encourage readers to be more virtuous.
B.To remind readers of living a purposeful life.
C.To explain how to become virtuous.
D.To introduce the feature of virtuous people.

If sports are something that interests you, it stands to reason that you would want to be good at them. However, there are other things you need to think about if you want to be a good sports player.
36 .
It’s a common mistake for young athletes to want to jump into the advanced stuff quickly. This isn’t an effective way to spend training time. You need a firm basis before you move on to bigger things. If you’re new to a sport, take as much time as you need to get the basic movements down properly. 37 .
Get enough sleep.
This one should come as obvious. This is especially true during times of intense practice or training, where things get so busy that it becomes hard to push everything into a regular day. However, your body needs its full rest. 38 . If you’re an adult, get 7-9 hours of sleep each night.
Set ambitious but realistic goals for yourself.
Setting ambitious goals does not mean being unrealistic, or saying you’re going to go professional within a year. 39 , and figure out where you think you would like to be. Give yourself a suitable amount of time to achieve that goal, and break it down into smaller parts if the goal is especially big.
Stay focused on the game.
You won’t get anywhere if you’re worried about something else happening in your life. Life is always complex, and there may be things in your personal life that are bothering you. However, at least for the course of the game, you can’t let any of that stuff get to you. 40 . But if winning the game means a lot to you, then you should keep your eyes on the prize.
A.Put basics first
B.Let yourself have fun
C.It may be easier said than done
D.Instead, you should take a look at what you are
E.This is especially true if you want to be a great coach
F.If you’re a teen, you should sleep 8-10 hours each night
G.It will make advanced skills a lot easier to master in the long run
