Are you afraid of speaking in front of the class? You' re not alone! Many students feel this way at first. The good news is that public speaking is a skill you can learn. How can we improve the skill?
Getting ready is the most important part. First of all, choose something you know well as a topic(话题). It might be your favorite hobby or a fun family trip. Then talk about it every day. It's better to write down 2-3 main ideas on note cards and practice saying them aloud in different ways: in front of a mirror, to your pet, or to your family. The more you practice, the more comfortable you' ll feel.
Even when you' re ready for your speaking, you might still feel nervous. That's very normal. Here's an easy way you can try: before you start talking, press(按压) your hands together lightly and count“1-2-3-4-5” in your head, making each number last about one second. Then let your hands relax.Do this for 3 times. Believe me, it really works.
When it's time to speak, look for friendly faces in the room. Find those who are smiling and nodding at you, because they want you to do well. You can look into their eyes, focus on their kind faces and speak to them like you' re telling a story to friends. That will help you feel more confident.
So, next time when it's your turn to speak, just have a try. Believe me if you keep trying and never give up, success will come to you.
Speaking in public makes many students nervous, but 1 can help. First, you should have good preparation. It means you need to 2 . Next, you can do the hand-pressing exercise so that 3 . If a child has brown hair and blue eyes, one or both of the child's parents probably has brown hair and blue eyes. Why? Genes(基因). Scientists know that looks come from parents to kids through genes. But how about other things? If a parent is shy, then would the child also be shy? If a parent is smart, then will the child also be smart? Scientists want to know how much genes and ways

of raising(抚养) can affect(影响) a person.
Scientists researched this question by studying identical twins who were separated (分开) at birth. Identical twins are twins that look the same on the outside. They also have the same genes on the inside. Many years ago, when twins were given away to other families at birth, they didn't always go to the same family. So they were separated and raised in different ways. Even if the twins had the same genes and looked the same, did they turn out the same as adults? Here are what the scientists have found.
For some things, such as looks or diseases(疾病), the twins turned out the same. Even if one twin drank lots of milk and the other did not, they were of similar heights as adults. Even if one twin exercised and ate healthy food and the other did not, they could get the same disease as adults.Scientists found that how each twin was raised could not change much.
However, in the case of personality(个性), the answer is not so clear. Some separated twins had completely different personalities and lives as adults. Other separated twins were almost exactly the same. They dressed the same, talked the same, and even had the same jobs—— even though they had never met!
In the end, there seems to be no simple answer. As a whole, it seems people become who and what we are because of both genes and how we are raised.
1. How does the writer lead in the topic?
A. By telling stories. B. By asking questions.
C. By comparing facts. D. By listing numbers.
2. Whom were the scientists interested in studying according to Paragraph 2?
A. The identical twins who grew up together after they were born.
B. The identical twins who had different genes and looks.
C. The identical twins who looked different but had the same genes.
D. The identical twins who grew up in different families from birth.
3. What do Paragraph 3 & Paragraph 4 mainly talk about?
A. The importance of the study. B. The ways of the study.
C. The results of the study. D. The rules of the study.
4 Which of the following will the writer most probably agree?
A. Genes and how we are raised make us who we are.
B. We become who we are mostly because of our genes.
C. The people we become depend on how we were raised.
D. Genes are the main reason for personality development.

Do you still remember your best holiday experiences? Here are two teenagers sharing their best holiday experiences.
Huang Wei
My best holiday experience was four years ago. I live in Chongqing with my family, a city with delicious food and the spectacular night view. That summer, I made a decision to do something cool:walking from Chongqing to Chengdu with some friends to relax ourselves. My parents were surprised at my idea and said no, but after a discussion, they finally gave me all their support. With their help,I made full preparations for the trip.
I also learned a lot from other people's walking experiences. I packed everything I needed and started the trip. The walking took us almost four days to complete. It was so tiring but worthwhile.Along the way, I saw beautiful mountains, forests, and rivers. However, there were also difficulties, and sometimes I just wanted to give up. But we didn't quit and when I finally arrived in Chengdu, I took pride in myself.
Karen
My best holiday experience was when I learned something cool, surfing(潜水). I went to a town beside the ocean in Indonesia with my family. At first, I took some classes to learn how to surf safely because it was dangerous for a teenager. When I practiced in a swimming pool for a few days, my parents were there for me. Then, I lived on a boat for 5 days in order that I could go surfing in the ocean easily and quickly. Every single day, to improve my surfing skills, I practiced it with a guide and tried my best to do it well. I saw lots of fish, amazing sea animals, and the fantastic sea view. While I was surfing, another girl pointed, and I realized there was a baby shark near me. It was such a wonderful experience that I will never forget it.
1. Did Huang Wei's parents support his idea?
2. How long did Karen live on a boat?
3. What do their best holiday experiences have in common?
4. What's your best holiday experience? Why?(about 30 words)
