Here’s a look at who has won the prize and for what. Physiology or Medicine Swedish geneticist Svante Pääbo won the first Nobel Prize of the year, for starting the field of ancient DNA studies. He is well-known for extracting, sequencing, and analyzing ancient DNA from Neanderthal bones. Physics Alain Aspect, John F. Clauser and Anton Zeilinger’s work in quantum (量子) technology landed them the second Nobel Prize announced in 2022. Although Aspect is from France, Clauser from the U.S., and Zeilinger from Austria, the three separately performed “groundbreaking experiments” as one team. “Their results have cleared the way for new technology,” the committee stated. Chemistry The Nobel Prize in Chemistry went to another trio (三人组), Carolyn R. Bertozzi from the U.S., Morten Meldal from Denmark and K. Barry Sharpless from the U.S. “for the development of click chemistry and bioorthogonal chemistry,” the committee stated. Dr. Bertozzi is the eighth woman chemist to be awarded the prize, while Dr. Sharpless is the fifth scientist to be awarded two Nobel Prizes. Economic Sciences The Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences was awarded to three American economists, Ben S. Bernanke, Douglas W. Diamond and Philip H. Dybvig “for research on banks and financial crises,” the Nobel Prize committee announced on Monday. By studying the history of American economics, particularly the Great Depression of the 1930s, they improved how we understand the role of banks during times of hardship and the bank’s impact on societal functions. 1. What prize is related to the research on bones? A. Physiology or Medicine. B. Chemistry. C. Physics. D. Economic Sciences. 2. For what study did Ben S. Bernanke, Douglas W. Diamond and Philip H. Dybvig win the prize? A. About societal functions. B. About the history of America. C. About banks and financial crises. D About the Great Depression of the 1930s. 3. What do the prizes in physics, chemistry and economic sciences have in common? A. Their winners are from different countries. B. They have three winners. C. They improve new technology. D. They help people understand hardship. B Coming into the town of Santa Catarin a Palopó, in the highlands of Lake Atitlan inGuatemala, the first thing you notice is the bright colors. Most of the buildings along the main street are eye-catching, in deep blues and greens, dotted with red and yellow to form diverse patterns and designs. Santa Catarin a Palopo was once a sleepy town of 5,000 people, most of them dependent on agricultural work. But as agriculture began to dry up here, poverty came. To deal with poverty and promote economic growth through tourism, a small but creative group of laborers, artisans, domestic workers and stay-at-home moms created the Pintando Santa Catarina Palopo project. The project aimed to paint all 850 homes and buildings in bright colors to change the hillside town into a work of art. “We wanted to paint the houses with colors and figures that represent the community,” says the project's executive director Stephany Blanco. “Families can choose designs for their house that are representative of the family.” One of the most representative characteristics of the region is the blue huipil, a traditional blouse which has been worn commonly by local women since the 16th century. That deep sky blue was chosen as the primary color for the Pintando project, with secondary colors found in the sunsets and the nearby lake to make the design more attractive. Inspiration was also found in local culture, symbols such as volcanoes, flowers, and the national bird ofGuatemala. Each week, local artists, community members and tourists pick up paintbrushes to make buildings colorful. “At first, the idea of the project was uncertain, but now you can see a considerable difference in the town,” Melissa Whitbeck said. “The color of the buildings is believed to improve the quality of life of the people. It uplifts the people's mood and encourages them to be proud of their hometown.” 4. Why was the Pintando Santa Catarina Palopo project started? A. Because of a workforce shortage. B. Due to the poor economic conditions. C. Thanks to the increase in population. D. For the old-fashioned farming ways. 5. What is the project about? A. Building family art galleries in Guatemala. B. Creating job opportunities for local artists. C. Developing local tourism by selling artworks. D. Changing the town into a cultural destination. 6. What is the inspiration of the primary color for the project? A. The surrounding volcanoes. B. Mayan-styled butterflies. C. A type of traditional clothing. D. The national bird of Guatemala. 7. What is Melissa’ s attitude towards the project? A. Positive. B. Critical. C. Concerned. D. Doubtful. C Recently, the magazine Big Think asked top minds from a variety of fields to comment on what the future holds 40 years from now. The result is as follows. It’s likely that by 2050 the majority of the people in the world will live in urban (城市的) areas, and will have a much higher average age than people today. Cities theorist Richard Florida thinks urbanization will reinvent the education system of the United States, making our economy less real estate (房地产) driven and erasing(消除) the divisions between home and work. And rapidly advancing technology will continue ever more rapidly. Cities of the future won’t look like “some sort of science-fiction fantasy”, but it’s likely that technological advances and information overlays (VR and AR) will greatly change how we live. Self-driving cars will make the roads safer and provide faster transports. A larger version of driverless cars-driverless trucks - may make long-distance drivers out of date. Some long view predictions are completely dire. Environmentalist Bill McKibben says that if we don’t make great progress in fighting global warming, it’s likely we could see out-of-control rises in sea levels, huge crop shortfalls, and wars over limited freshwater resources. In terms of how we will eat, green markets founder and “real food” supporter Nina Planck believes that there will be more small milk processing plants, and more regional food operations and we’ll be healthier as a result. New York Times feature writer Mark Bittman thinks that people will eat fewer processed foods, and eat foods grown closer to where they live. And Anson Mills farmer Glenn Roberts thinks that more people will be aware of the “ethical(道德的) responsibility” to grow and preserve land-raised farm systems. 8. What may happen by 2050? A. Most people will live in cities. B. The aging population will drop. C. Home education will become a trend. D. The economy will be driven by real estate. 9 What do we know about technology in the future? A. It will give cities a science-fiction appearance. B. It will greatly change the way people live. C. It will lead to an increase in the number of cars. D. It will ensure faster transports with fast cars. 10. What does the underlined word “dire” in the fourth paragraph mean? A. Interesting. B. Daring. C. Terrible. D. Creative. 11. What does Mark Bittman think of foods in the future? A. People will eat healthier and fresher foods. B. Land-raised farm systems will be improved. C. There will be more regional food operations. D. Food supplies will become more limited than before. D Artificial intelligence has persuaded many people that we need to thoroughly change education. Now that chatbots can speedily find and bring back information and answer complex questions, why bother memorizing historical facts or quotations? Shouldn’t we instead teach kids to think critically and solve problems and leave the above-mentioned work to computers? This perspective suggests we can always “just google it” when information is needed. Yet this perspective faces strong pushback. Nonagenarian American educator E.D. Hirsch demolished (驳倒) the argument that we can always just look things up, stating that while internet access and AI tutors are amazing and can strengthen knowledge if used reasonably, being able to recall facts remains indispensable. This connects to a deeper concern about outsourcing memory. In The Shallows, Nicholas Carr writes that the suggestion we should outsource our memory to “free up” limited space for more creative thinking is based on a misconception. Thanks to its plasticity, the brain’s long-term memory center can expand, as scientists found when studying London taxi drivers. Carr warns: “When we start using the Web as a substitute for personal memory, bypassing the inner processes of consolidation (巩固), we risk emptying our minds of their riches.” Furthermore, cognitive limitations reinforce this risk. Daisy Christodoulou, author of Seven Myths About Education, reminds us that our working memories can only process a few new items at a time. So if we encounter too much new vocabulary or information, we become overwhelmed, damaging our ability to learn. Indeed, looking stuff up on Google often results in us not being able to recall it later. But we don’t need to reinvent the wheel: In an era of conspiracy (阴谋) theories and misinformation, it’s even more vital that we humans have a firm grasp of basic facts. 12. What is E.D. Hirsch’s opinion on recalling facts in the AI era? A. It is less important than critical thinking. B. It remains essential despite technology. C. It should be replaced by internet access. D. It weakens knowledge retention overall. 13. How does the author support the main argument in the text? A. Describing personal chatbot experiences. B. Comparing ancient vs. modern education. C. Listing all AI benefits. D. Quoting experts. 14. What do Carr and Christodoulou imply about using the internet as a memory tool? A. It boosts creative thinking capacity. B. It enhances memory consolidation. C. It harms natural brain processes. D. It ensures reliable fact recall. 15. Which can be a suitable title for the text? A. The Future Role of AI Tutors in Education B. The Enhancement of Critical Thinking Skills C. The End of Memorization in the AI Era D. The Risks of Online Memory Outsourcing Maybe you’re a young scientist wanting to make an influence on the world, or a more seasoned veteran of scientific study who is curious about how to get better at your job. He was just adopted by my parents recently. I was not in the mood for being onstage with him. “Kristie, come here,” my mom called. Following her voice, I found her outside the bathroom, holding a wet book. She gave the book a shake. “Henry’s book was in the bathtub. Did you put it there?” She glared at me — something she never did before Henry came to our home. I didn’t wet his book on purpose. Tears of hurt clouded my eyes. Worse still, she promised to buy him a new copy. My heart ached. Henry was stealing my mother’s love. He was ruining my life. Meanwhile, Henry was just nearby, absorbed in working on a complicated rope knot (绳结) as usual. Why did a boy like him do the girly work? Far from manly! Soon, it was time to have to set off for the community theatre. As Henry walked ahead of us to the car, my mom took me aside and said in a low voice, “It’s the first time for Henry to be onstage. Be kind to him. Honey.” I nodded but sighed. Being kind didn’t use to be hard. But after Henry moved in, everything felt different. The theatre used to be a special place for my parents and me. With Henry involved, it didn’t seem so special any more. Finally, it was our stage time. My heart beat wildly. I forgot my annoyance at Henry for a while. As we kids lined up, ready to act out our short play, I realized how loosely I had tied the drawstring (束带) on my skirt. Sure enough, my skirt began to drop. Laughter from the audience could be heard, and even though I was wearing shorts under my skirt, I could feel my face burst into flames. However, my hands were full. If only someone could help me out! Right then, Henry sensed my embarrassment. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ After the performance, I found Henry and tapped him on the arm gratefully. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 三明一中2025-2026学年上学期10月月考 高二英语试卷 (试卷满分150分,考试时长120分钟) 注意事项: 1. 1. A. Positive. B. Critical. C. Concerned. D. Doubtful. 4. B 5. D 6. C 7. 9. What do we know about technology in the future? 8. A 9. B 10. C 11. The Risks of Online Memory Outsourcing 【答案】12. B 13. D 14. C 15. Hirsch demolished (驳倒) the argument that we can always just look things up, stating that while internet access and AI tutors are amazing and can strengthen knowledge if used reasonably, being able to recall facts remains indispensable.(年逾九旬的美国教育家 E.D. Hirsch 驳斥了“我们总能通过网络查询来获取知识”的观点,他指出,虽然互联网接入和人工智能辅导系统非常出色,如果合理使用的话能够增强知识储备,但能够准确回忆起事实这一点仍然是不可或缺的)”可知,E.D. Hirsch认为,尽管人工智能和互联网能快速获取信息,但在AI时代回忆事实仍然至关重要。故选B。 【13题详解】 推理判断题。根据根据第二段“Nonagenarian American educator E.D. Hirsch demolished (驳倒) the argument that we can always just look things up, stating that while internet access and AI tutors are amazing and can strengthen knowledge if used reasonably, being able to recall facts remains indispensable.(年逾九旬的美国教育家E.D. Hirsch 驳斥了“我们总能通过网络查询来获取知识”的观点,他指出,虽然互联网接入和人工智能辅导系统非常出色,如果合理使用的话能够增强知识储备,但能够准确回忆起事实这一点仍然是不可或缺的)”;第三段“In The Shallows, Nicholas Carr writes that the suggestion we should outsource our memory to “free up” limited space for more creative thinking is based on a misconception.(在《浅薄》一书中,尼古拉斯·卡尔写道,我们应当将记忆“外包”以腾出有限的空间用于更富有创造性的思考这一观点是基于一种错误的观念)”以及第四段“Daisy Christodoulou, author of Seven Myths About Education, reminds us that our working memories can only process a few new items at a time.(《关于教育的七个误区》一书的作者黛西·克里斯托多卢提醒我们,我们的工作记忆每次只能处理少量的新信息)”可知,作者在文中通过引用专家观点来支持核心论点。 根据第三段“When we start using the Web as a substitute for personal memory, bypassing the inner processes of consolidation (巩固), we risk emptying our minds of their riches.(当我们开始将网络用作个人记忆的替代品,从而绕过记忆的内部巩固过程时,我们就有可能让自己的大脑失去其中的丰富内容)”可知,Carr指出依赖网络会绕过大脑的巩固过程,导致大脑失去丰富的资源;根据第四段中的“So if we encounter too much new vocabulary or information, we become overwhelmed, damaging our ability to learn. Indeed, looking stuff up on Google often results in us not being able to recall it later. Maybe you’re a young scientist wanting to make an influence on the world, or a more seasoned veteran of scientific study who is curious about how to get better at your job. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Right then, Henry sensed my embarrassment. He immediately came to my aid. With a calm and steady hand, he quickly retied the drawstring on my skirt, saving me from further humiliation. “Don’t worry, I’ve got you,” he whispered, offering a reassuring smile. I felt a surge of gratitude mixed with guilt for all the negative thoughts I had harbored against him. I regretted having treated him as a stranger. While my mind was wandering, our performance time came. It turned out to be a great success, thunderous applause filling the whole theatre. After the performance, I found Henry and tapped him on the arm gratefully. “Thank you, Henry,” I said with a grateful smile on my face. I had to admit that but for his timely help, I would have been extremely embarrassed. “That’s what brothers are for,” he replied simply. At that moment, I realized how wrong I had been about him. Henry wasn’t stealing my mother’s love or ruining my life; he was becoming an integral part of our family, bringing his own strengths and kindness. As we walked back to the car, I felt a newfound bond with Henry, understanding that our differences could be a source of strength rather than division. 词汇激活 行为类: ①相助:come to one’s aid/help sb. out ②对某人怀恨在心:harbor against sb./hold a grudge against sb. ③游离:wander/stray 情感类: ①感激:gratitude/appreciation ②愧疚:guilt/remorse 【点睛】[高分句型 1] With a calm and steady hand, he quickly retied the drawstring on my skirt, saving me from further humiliation.(运用现在分词短语作结果状语) [高分句型 2] While my mind was wandering, our performance time came.(运用了while引导的时间状语从句) [高分句型 3] I had to admit that but for his timely help, I would have been extremely embarrassed.
