The Unforgettable Staycation
Most of my classmates spent their summer vacations traveling to famous places. My family’s plan, however, was canceled (取消) due to an unexpected situation. I was stuck at home for two weeks, feeling extremely disappointed. “This will be the most boring holiday ever,” I thought.
My mom noticed my low spirits and suggested, “Why not be a tourist in our own city?” I shrugged (耸肩), but with nothing else to do, I agreed. We dug out an old guidebook and made a plan.
The next day, we visited the city museum that I hadn’t been to since primary school. To my surprise, the new history exhibition was fascinating. The next day, we explored a beautiful park on the outskirts of the city, where we had a picnic and flew kites. We even took a cycling tour along the river, something I never thought locals would do. I took photos of famous buildings and tried street food I’d always ignored. I discovered hidden cafes and interesting small shops in old streets.
I learned to see my city from a new perspective. I didn’t need to go far to have an adventure. I realized that a “staycation” (宅度假) could be as enjoyable as going away, and it was certainly cheaper and more relaxing. It taught me that attitude (态度) is everything. The holiday turned out to be anything but boring.
13. Why did the writer’s holiday plan change?
A. Because he preferred to stay at home.
B. Because his family wanted to save money.
C. Because of an unexpected situation.
14. What did the writer think of his staycation at first?
A. He felt excited about it.
B. He thought it would be boring.
C. He believed it would be an adventure.
15. The phrase “dug out” in Paragraph 2 probably means ________.
A. bought B. found something old C. threw away
16. Which activity did the writer NOT do during his staycation?
A. Visit the city museum.
B. Have a picnic and fly kites.
C Take a plane to another city.
17. What is the main idea of the story?
A. Traveling to famous places is always the best.
B. A good holiday depends on your attitude, not just the place.
C. Staying at home is always boring.
C
