2025年八省联考卷(救助流浪狗筹款活动)
I was in Philadelphia for a conference when I saw an ad in the hotel. A nearby theater was showing a documentary (纪录片) about several local animal shelters that were helping to save abandoned dogs across the country. I love animals, and I felt an urge to go to this fundraising event. However, none of my co-workers would go with me, and I was worried about walking in the street alone at night.
I resigned myself to spending the evening in my hotel room, but as soon as I got back to my room I felt restless and bored. The theater where the event was taking place was only about five blocks from the hotel, and the area around the hotel didn’t seem particularly dangerous. So, I decided to brave it. I gathered up my wallet and room key and set off.
It was already getting dark and the streets were nearly deserted. I managed to find the street the theater was on, but when I turned the corner, I stopped in shock. In front of the theater were a group of bikers — very big, tough-looking bikers.
I’ve known lots of motorcycle enthusiasts and most are nice people. However, in this case, I was a woman all alone, in a strange neighborhood, at night, and there were twenty or so very large men, all wearing insignia (徽章) that indicated they were in some sort of club standing before me. Warning bells began to sound in my head, and my heart was pounding. Was I at the right theater? Had I misread the date of the event?
A sign outside the theater told me that I was in the right place on the right evening. Nevertheless, I wondered if I should rush back to my hotel instead of walking through that crowd of bikers. I finally decided that I would be safer inside the theater. Hopefully, the bikers would have gone away by the time the film was over.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右。
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
I hurried into the theater, only to find there were even more bikers inside.
When the film began, I realized that the bikers were an animal rescue group.
【参考范文】
I hurried into the theater, only to find there were even more bikers inside. They were chatting loudly and seemed to fill every corner of the place. My heart sank even further. I quickly found an empty seat in the back row, trying to make myself as inconspicuous as possible. I clutched my bag tightly, constantly glancing around, praying that nothing bad would happen. Every now and then, I peeked at the bikers, wondering what they were doing there. Were they going to cause trouble? The tension in the air was palpable, and I regretted my decision to come alone.
When the film began, I realized that the bikers were an animal rescue group. They had come to support the fundraiser for the local animal shelters. As the documentary unfolded, showing the plight of the abandoned dogs, I saw many of the bikers wiping away tears. They were as moved as I was by the heartwarming and heartbreaking stories. During the intermission, some of them even came over to me, smiling kindly and asking if I was enjoying the film. Their tough exteriors hid big, soft hearts. I felt ashamed of my initial fear and was truly grateful that I had decided to come. We spent the rest of the evening sharing our love for animals and discussing ways to help.

I was sitting at my desk surrounded by New Year gifts, feeling happy that I had managed to buy some hard to find items. These were for Kids Need More, a charitable organization offering services to socially disadvantaged children. One of its most popular events is the Holiday Cheer Bus. The organization always fills the buses with donated gifts for the families on the Cheer Bus routes. Each bus is manned by a team of volunteers. My family had been volunteers for years. I had a list of the families on our route.
Just as I was packing up the items with my husband and my son, I received a call from the director of the organization. She asked if I could add a family to my route. Here was a young mother, Leanne, and her son.
I called Leanne and told her that a Holiday Cheer Bus would be visiting her family. Leanne seemed really excited and began to cry. I comforted her, “The Holiday Cheer Bus is really going to come. Is there something special that your child would like?”
“My son is three. All he wants is a pair of Spider-Man snow boots so that he can play outside in the snow. ”
I asked about her son's shoe size. She told me the size and I promised I would have Spider-Man snow boots in size 9 for her son.
After I said goodbye and ended the call, panic set in. It was two days before the Holiday Cheer Bus was going on its run, less than a week before New Year. I was going to need a holiday miracle to find Spider-Man snow boots in size 9.
“We have to go shopping!" I called out to my husband and son. They were surprised but still we set off. We went to a few department stores and the shoe departments, without success. We were tired and hungry. We were becoming disheartened. My son suggested giving Leanne a gift card so she could get the boots herself. But I didn't want to give up. I promised we would bring boots.

【参考范文】
At our final stop, expecting defeat, we entered the shoe department. All we saw were empty shelves where the snow boots should be. As my husband searched in one area, I searched another. I looked down an aisle and saw a Spider-Man box. I ran down the aisle. As I got closer, I could not believe my eyes. On top of the Spider-Man box were black-and-red snow boots. I carefully lifted the tag and saw the size— a child’s size 9! We bought the boots. I was relieved we would be bringing snow boots for Leanne and her son.
Two days later, we arrived at the young mom’s home. As the bus pulled up to her home? her son ran through the cold, wet snow without boots for the last time. We handed him the boots and visited for a while. When it was time to leave for our next stop, Leanne waved us off with tears in her eyes. As we walked down the driveway, I heard her son delightfully ask if he could go out to play in the snow in his new boots. Although I didn’t hear, I guessed he would have been permitted and had a great time.

The holiday season brings out acts of kindness and generosity, and for the team at East Idaho News, it’s a time to go above and beyond through their Secret Santa initiative.
Each year, East Idaho News partners with a faceless donor to deliver life-changing gifts to worthy residents across the community. With careful consideration, they select individuals who have faced significant hardships or who tirelessly give to others. These holiday surprises are more than just gifts; they’re a way of spreading hope, showing appreciation, and lifting burdens from people who often put their own needs last.
Recently, a hardworking grandmother named Hope received a holiday surprise that was nothing short of incredible.
Hope has spent nearly 13 years working at a fast food restaurant, committed to long hours and early mornings to support her family. Her daughter, also a single mother, often works long, so Hope steps in to ensure her grandchildren are cared for each day. Living modestly, Hope always focuses on her family’s needs, making every effort to provide safety, comfort and care for her grandchildren, who are the center of her world. Despite her demanding job, Hope plays an active role in her grandchildren’s lives, balancing school pickups, after-school activities, and everyday missions. Beyond these responsibilities, she has a creative passion — making native American quilts. She works on these quilts in her limited free time, often gifting them to friends and family, symbolizing her love and cultural pride.
For Hope, getting around town has been an ongoing struggle due to continuous car troubles. After finally saving enough for a vehicle, her joy was short-lived when her second hand car was destroyed in an accident not long after she bought it. Determined, she bought another car, only to have it sideswiped, making it unusable. Since then, Hope has shared her daughter’s car, sometimes walking long distances to pick it up for tasks and work.

Hope’s life took a wonderful turn when East Idaho News staff showed up at her workplace. Holding a steaming coffee pot, Hope stood still with shock as cameras and smiling faces surrounded her. The kitchen’s usual noise faded when the reporter announced, “Someone wants to give you a reliable car” Her rough hands trembled, covering her mouth as tears slid down her face. Behind her, coworkers burst into cheers while the camera captured her whispering “Thank you” repeatedly. Keys pressed into her hand, she seated herself in a chair, laughing through tears at the shiny blue SUV parked outside. “This means morning school runs without walks in the snow,” she choked out, hugging a Secret Santa team member tightly.
Many people were moved by Hope’s story, flooding the comments with heartfelt reactions. “Her selflessness reshapes me,” wrote a teacher, while a young mother commented, “This restored my faith in goodness.” Viewers noticed how Hope kept smoothing her uniform during the interview, as if grounding herself in reality. Some shared how their grandparents did the same tirelessly. The video’s closing shot of Hope’s grandchildren cheering in the new car became a symbol of community compassion. As donations poured in for her quilt materials, one viewer summarized, “Her light shines brighter because she first lit it in darkness.”

On a cold December morning, our school charity club planned a winter donation activity for homeless kids. As the leader, I first thought it was just another school activity for my future applications. But everything changed when I first met Leo at a shelter. There the wall was dirty and broken, and most kids’ books and clothes were broken too. Leo’s broken shoes and thin jacket caught my attention. While giving out donations, I saw him drawing a sunflower with a short pencil. “I want to be an artist.” he said quietly. His words stayed with me all night.
The next day, I suggested holding an art show featuring drawings by shelter kids like Leo and encouraged them to explain their drawings. We could sell their artworks to buy school supplies for them. Some club members worried it was too much work, but Leo’s hopeful eyes kept me going.
After weeks of preparation, we turned the school hall into an art gallery (画廊). 50 colorful drawings from the kids at the shelter covered the walls and filled up the shelves with Leo’s sunflower painting “Growing Hope” in the center. Many students and teachers as visitors joined this activity. During the event, laughter and conversation filled the room. Just as Leo started to explain his painting, we heard a loud crash-two younger kids had accidentally knocked over a shelf, tearing (撕碎) several drawings! The room fell silent. My heart sank until Leo calmly picked up those torn paintings.

“These remind me of my pencil and tape (胶带),” he said, holding up his half-broken tools. Leo’s words made everyone smile. Leo started fixing the torn drawings with his pencil and tape, turning them into colorful patterns. Everyone helped. Soon, the hall was lively again. Visitors clapped as the repaired artworks became even more special. By the end, all artworks were sold. We raised enough money to buy new school supplies for the kids at the shelter. But what touched us most wasn’t the money raised. It was how Leo turned broken art into something new.
Leo’s reaction inspired our club to start a repair project, where we showed the kids at the shelter how to make beautiful things from broken ones. We taught them to fix old books and turn very old clothes into colorful bags. Months later, visiting the shelter again, I saw the walls that used to be dirty and broken were repaired and even decorated with kids’ bright paintings. That winter I learned that charity isn’t just about giving things; it’s about helping people find their hidden talents. Just like Leo’s sunflower painting “Growing Hope” shows us, even a little bit of kindness can make a big difference and go much farther than we think.

Jack is a 10-year-old who has development issues in his leg muscles, causing him to walk on the balls of his feet, which makes him unbalanced. He also has a speech delay, so he speaks slowly and can be hard to understand. However, it was this boy that totally changed my attitude toward life.
Three years ago, when I was unbelievably self-centred, my dad arranged for me to watch a video after I got back home from school.
I will never forget that movie. My eyes filled with tears as images of mentally and physically challenged children playing baseball flashed across the screen. I learned about Challenger, a program that gives these children the chance to play baseball on a team with the help of “buddies (伙伴)”. Some buddies act as eyes for those who have vision problems, legs for those who can’t walk, and a friend to the mentally challenged. Challenger not only gives the children a team to play on, but a sense of belonging that they may lack in their difficult life.
After the short film ended, my dad explained he was going to add this program to our town’s baseball league, since he was president of the league, and he told me that he expected me to participate. I suddenly became interested in volunteering as a buddy for children with special needs.
So when Sunday came, I sat with my dad and other volunteers waiting for the players to arrive. A few cars pulled up, and some players were introduced to their buddies. Then, I saw another car pull up. A cute little boy called Jack got off the car with his mother.
“This is my daughter, Amy. She’s going to be your buddy for the season. Is that okay, Jack?” my dad said with a smile. But Jack just hid behind his mother, looking unhappy.

Apparently, Jack didn’t like to play with me. Initially, I felt a little embarrassed and discouraged, thinking, “Why am I wasting my time here when he doesn’t even like me?” However, I reminded myself that I was there to help him and make him happy. So I made every effort to make friends with this boy, by patiently teaching him how to play baseball, how to overcome his physical limitations, and most importantly, by being nice and making him laugh happily.
To my great joy, my efforts paid off and Jack was beginning to accept me. As the weeks passed, a special bond developed between us. Sunday became Jack’s favorite time because he could play with me on the baseball field. And I loved spending time with him too, because watching him laugh brought me great pleasure. Sure enough, Jack has made me see the real value of life, which lies in helping and caring for others. The program has definitely turned out to be the best experience of my life — one that I look forward to every week.

Recently, I volunteered with Interact, my school’s service group at Read 2 Me, an activity that focuses on giving an opportunity to volunteers to read to kids and interact with them.
I walked with other volunteers into a large room where there was a large variety of books. Some were picture books, such as Clifford or The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Others were chapter books with pictures in them, such as the Berenstain Bears and The Wimpy Kid series. For the extremely talented kids who like to be challenged, we provided chapter books that required imagination to understand. Just after I’d gathered some books together, someone announced that it was almost time for the activity to start.
Suddenly, a burst of voices was heard. The doors opened, and the children rushed in, beginning to look for a reading partner. There was a variety of children rushing all at once. Some had glasses while others had T-shirts of their favorite cartoons. They all looked so eager to read, just like mice eager to taste a piece of cheese. It was really nice to see children with this much energy to read books. I looked around and all the volunteers were reading books to children of all ages. People of different ages take time from their own life to read to others. Almost every child looked happy because of getting the chance of being read to by others. I was sitting there waiting and glancing at the books that I had picked out for the lucky kid I would read them to.
Just then, a boy about six years old began to come my way, and I knew that I had found my reading partner. “Hi, I’m Max. Would you like to be my reading partner?” “Sure,” I responded.

Later, I picked one book and read it to him. His eyes were fixed on the pages, wide with curiosity and wonder. Every now and then, he’d ask me questions, and I’d patiently explain. When I finished one story, he’d excitedly ask for another, his voice filled with anticipation. His enthusiasm made the reading session so enjoyable that time seemed to fly. It felt like we were in a world of our own, away from all the distractions and chaos.
As I waved goodbye to Max, he said I changed him a lot. I was surprised and deeply touched. I told him it was he who made my day special. Reading to him wasn’t just a volunteer task; it was a heartwarming interaction that filled my heart with joy and a sense of purpose. I realized that a simple act of sharing stories could have such a profound impact on a child’s mind and heart. I promised to come back and read to him again, hoping to inspire his love for reading even more.

The birth of the little girl, Melody, cast a shadow over her family. The words the doctor said to Dana and Jeff completely shook them, “Your daughter was born with a cleft lip (唇裂).” It was impossible for the couple to hide their sadness. They couldn’t believe it was true until they saw their daughter in person. Seeing her cleft made Dana and Jeff more heartbroken than anything. It broke their heart to imagine the kind of life Melody would lead in the future.
Fortunately, Dana and Jeff saw a ray of hope when the doctor told the couple that their daughter’s condition was treatable with a cleft lip surgery (外科手术). Rather than feeling stressful like the first few days, they promised themselves they never wanted their daughter to suffer from that. They would spare no effort to support Melody.
Nothing is more precious than their little angel, and Dana as well as Jeff was ready to do anything for Melody. After bringing Melody home, they immediately began looking for cleft surgery options. However, no matter where they turned, getting Melody the surgery she needed was expensive, and the various treatments and medications she needed in the following would also be much more costly than the young family could afford.
Then came the thrilling moment when Jeff browsed through a medical forum one evening, he stumbled upon (意外发现) a post about a nonprofit organization that specialized in cleft lip surgeries for children. The organization, named Smileatfuture, is dedicated to providing free surgeries to families who could not afford the procedure. The couple had seen a lot of photos and read a lot of stories about children who had cleft surgeries sponsored by Smileatfuture, and the results were incredible. The idea that Melody could grow up with hardly a scar (伤疤) where her cleft was lit a fire under the couple. Without any hesitation, Dana and her husband reached out to Smileatfuture and handed in an application for medical aid.

Imagining that their girl was on track for a life of joy, loving to run around and play with other kids in the future, Dana and Jeff felt more than relieved and grateful. The couple owed all this to the kindness they received. They also made a promise to pay it forward by helping others in need.

We were three thousand miles away from home on a Random Acts of Kindness and Volunteerism Road Trip. Our funds were running low, so we had two goals today. Firstly, try out our new “Smile!” signs and see how much kindness and joy we could spread. Secondly, raise a pitiful $20 a piece by doing street performances. Singing, drawing cartoons, storytelling, as long as it is enough for the trip to Portland.
We weren’t sure how people would react to our signs. I nervously raised one up and shouted “Hi there!” to a young couple. They looked over, momentarily confused, then read my sign and broke into smiles. It worked.
Before long, our signs were popular. Strangers stopped to ask us about them. The signs are more than an invitation to “Smile!”. They’re an excuse to connect with strangers and to remember this world is full of good people. We got so wrapped up in our “Smile!” project that we forgot our other goal. Before we knew it, the sun was setting, and we had no money for our trip to Portland.
Then we noticed that a blind musician was playing guitar when suddenly a passing crowd kicked over his change jar. Change and cash scattered everywhere. Before we could run over, another man rushed to collect all the money for him. And we met the dogooder, Jared. “We want to praise you for your good deed,” I said. Jared looked at my signs curiously. We told him about our road trip, which reminded him of something similar he did when he was young. He seemed moved.

We sat down to watch a musician play the guitar while we thought about our second goal. It seemed that it was tough to achieve. Now we didn’t have much time to lose. Suddenly, a good idea flashed through my mind. I gathered my courage and walked straight toward the musician and asked him to do us a favor. To our great delight, he enthusiastically supported our money project and agreed to form a band with us. With an empty hat on the ground in front of us, we began our performance.
Our little band of five attracted a large audience. We received a storm of applause. A gentleman in his fifties was the first to put some change into our hat. His act of kindness was soon followed by more donations. A little boy, holding his mom’s hand, carefully dropped a coin and gave us the most beautiful smile in the world. Before it was dark, we were sure we had made it. The amount of money gathered totaled $92. What a sweet victory! We thanked the musician and went on with our journey. In the depth of my heart, I would keep these heartwarming moments forever.

Last summer, my college’s charity started a campaign called "Big Brothers Big Sisters”. It called on college students to care for local extremely poor kids by leading them to our cafeteria and helping them enjoy a good lunch every Sunday for four months. The charity would pay for the kids’ meals.
My schoolmate Molly and I signed up as volunteers. Then, the charity helped us contact a local poor family. The family had a kindergarten girl Melissa. That Sunday morning, Molly and I took the school bus and reached the family. When seeing a shabby house, we were touched. We nervously knocked on the door. Melissa opened it and looked up at us, seemingly wondering, “Could these girls be trusted?” Still, she welcomed us in.
After communicating with her parents for a while, Melissa gave us a tour of their home. “Here is the TV. Here is the picture I drew,” she said. Her parents, quiet in chairs, watched her and smiled. “Here is my brother, who died,” Melissa added. Molly and I just broke inside. Just then, Melissa’s mother called her. Melissa walked over to her, who secretly told her something. Then Melissa came to us, smiling, “Mama said my brother lived inside our heart forever.”
After a short silence, Molly and I chatted a lot with Melissa’s parents. Then, waving goodbye to her parents, Melissa held my hand and Molly’s and happily got on our bus. All the way, Melissa appeared excited.

Finally, we reached the cafeteria. It was alive with kids and volunteers. Melissa followed us to the food counter, marveling at the variety of food. “Wow! They must be yummy.” Hearing her words, I began to explain the different options available, while Molly filled her tray with what she selected. As we sat down at a table, Melissa couldn’t wait to savor every bite. Her face lit up with satisfaction, reminding us of the importance of our mission. Sensing a kid with some leftovers leaving the cafeteria, Melissa paused, looking at the food counter. “Do you need anything else?” I smiled.
Melissa stood up, saying, “Can I bring some grapes home for my family?” She looked at us, adding, “I think nothing is sweeter than grapes here.” Molly and I exchanged glances and nodded, touched by her thoughtfulness. On the bus ride back, Melissa held a bag of grapes gently as if they were treasures. Hardly had she stepped into the house when she shared her experience and the delicious grapes with her family, which melted our hearts. Over the next few months, we witnessed the positive impact of our presence. As summer ended, we reflected on our experience and continued volunteering, knowing that even the smallest acts of kindness could make a big difference.

I was a volunteer for an organization at the beginning of this year. The organization is aimed at helping children who suffer from cancer. One day, we were asked to raise money for cancer research and programme funding at an event.
Since my friend Lisa was also a volunteer for the organization, I went to the event with her. There were many people at the event. After seeing our poster, some people came to us and talked with us. But few people donated money. It was a bit hot that day. Both Lisa and I got really upset.
Half an hour later, Lisa started complaining, “I don’t think we can raise much money today. ”
“Don’t worry. The event lasts for three hours. There is still a lot of time left,” I said, though I also thought poorly of our plan to raise a lot of money that day.
While Lisa and I were talking, a little boy of about eight years old came to us. He stood in front of our poster and started reading.
After a while, he asked, “What is cancer?”
I explained what cancer is. Then I said, “Many people around the world are suffering from cancer. It can be really dangerous. More research is needed to learn about it so that people with it can suffer less. That’s why we’re collecting money for it. ”
“Do children suffer from cancer, too?” asked the boy.
“Yes. Many children suffer from cancer. Some of them may die. They need help. ” Lisa said and I nodded.
Hearing that, the boy became sad. Then the boy asked, “How much money have you collected?”
Both Lisa and I were embarrassed to tell him that we didn’t raise much money. Finally, we said, “Not much. ”
The boy looked into our donation container and only saw a few onedollar and fivedollar bills. The boy said nothing after seeing that and left. Then some girls came to us and we started talking with them. Neither Lisa nor I thought the boy would return. However, about twenty minutes later, the boy did return.

Both Lisa and I were deeply touched. We thanked the boy, but he left soon. Looking at his back, both Lisa and I were greatly encouraged. We wanted to try harder to raise money. So instead of just standing there, we went to people and told them about our programme. At the end of the day, we raised over three thousand dollars, a lot more than Lisa and I had expected in the beginning.

I need to do something in my community (社区) in order to complete the community service hours required to graduate from high school. Some of my friends had signed up to spend time at a soup kitchen, so I did, too. It seemed like a good thing to do.
I thought that we would just be passing our dinners to those in need, but I found out we would be doing everything from preparing to serving the dinner. We began preparing the food, from mixing salad dressing to separating frozen meat. Much still needed to be done before dinner was served, but already outside the building many homeless people were gathering. It wasn’t until a couple of hours later that we opened the doors and began serving dinner.
As the line of people came toward me, I got a little scared. I’d come face to face with the homeless: How should I act? How would they treat me? Would they hate me for having more than they did? While some of the people looked very friendly, some of them looked so dangerous, I didn’t have too much time to worry about it. I was assigned (分配) to serve the salad with the lady next to me. She smiled at me and said if I needed help, she’d be right there, which I found quite comforting.
I had never seen so many people wanting food. They were of all ages and nationalities. Most of them wore clothes that were torn and dirty. Some looked like they had totally given up on life, while others seemed to be making the best of the situation, smiling and joking. Some were better off than others, but they all needed a good meal and a warm place to eat. It saddened me to think of how many people there were who didn’t have a place to call home and the only food they got came from a soup kitchen.

As they came in my direction, I put on my brightest and happiest smile. Nervous as I felt, I did my best to keep myself calm and packed bread, salad and meat for those in need. Upon noticing my hurried and trembling hands, the lady next to me smilingly told me that I should first organize these people to queue up and then hand out salad one by one. I immediately sprang into action and the passing time witnessed the smooth process of this event. Every one of them including those who looked very dangerous murmured in a cheering voice “Thank you” and bowed to me sincerely, which brought warmth straight into my heart. It was not until the night wiped out the last ray of sun that we finished our community service for the homeless.
I was so happy that I had earned my service hours in this way. I was aware that my time spent at the soup kitchen was really a rewarding, enriching and life-changing experience. Not only did I clear my previous prejudice against those who deserved compassion and support, but also I served the people who were less fortunate than me. In the meanwhile, I suddenly came to realize that not everyone was blessed with fortune and born to be wealthy, and therefore, we should always keep grateful for what life blessed us with. I now felt it a duty to do what I could for them. Since that day, I have spared more time offering my service opportunity in dining halls, in the streets, in front of grocery stores.

7.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
