The area of beach I went to is famous among surfers for its powerful waves and popularity with sharks. After a while my brother and some of my friends got out of the water because they felt uneasy. There was the smell of fish in the air, which can attract sharks. A few of us stayed. Finally, I saw my first big wave, but as I was about to hit it, two great white sharks attacked me. It happened so quickly. One shark hit me, throwing me into the air; a second later, it dragged me under the water. The shock stopped me from feeling pain. Under the water, another shark went for my head and shoulders but missed. Perhaps surprised by the competition, the first shark lost its grip (控制) on me and the next thing I knew was that I was staring a shark straight in the face. It stared back at me for a few moments. Its mouth was wide open; I could see huge teeth and dark black eyes. After it passed, I swam to the surface as fast as I could. When surfing, there is always the fear in the back of your mind of sharks. Now it was real. I was shaking, crying and panicking, realizing that I could die. I tried all my hardest to swim back to the shore. Eventually, I made it to dry land. I felt relief. Someone tied my arm to slow the bleeding and my brother rushed me to the hospital. The surgeon managed to save my fingers. That day changed my life, but it hasn’t stopped me from surfing. I started a surfing school to teach the sport to others. I was more afraid of sharks before my attack. Now I know what it means to be alive. 4. Why do sharks like appearing at the surfing beach? A. There are powerful waves in winter. B. The beach is their natural habitat. C. The smell of fish attracts them. D. The beach is crowded with surfers. 5. How did the author narrowly escape to dry land? A. By swimming as fast as possible. B. By surfing on his surfboard alone. C. By frightening the sharks away. D. By fighting with the sharks at once. 6. What can be inferred about the author in the text? A. He is more afraid of sharks. B. He is appreciative of being alive. C. He started a surfing school. D. He didn’t surf after the incident. 7. What is the text mainly about? A. An activity in South Africa. B. A safety problem for surfers. C. A terrible lesson for surfers. D. An experience of a surfer. C 5. A 6. B 7. 根据第二段中“There was the smell of fish in the air, which can attract sharks. 根据第四段中“After it passed, I swam to the surface as fast as I could. (它过去后,我以最快的速度游到水面上)”和第五段中“I tried all my hardest to swim back to the shore. Eventually, I made it to dry land. 故选A项。 根据最后一段中“I was more afraid of sharks before my attack. Now I know what it means to be alive. 通读全文,尤其是第二段中“Finally, I saw my first big wave, but as I was about to hit it, two great white sharks attacked me. Scientists have discovered the world’s largest known field of sea grass. They did it using videos shot by some sea animals. The work should help protect the sea grass, and also shows off a creative way to explore the ocean. Sea grasses are flowering plants that normally grow in shallow waters near coasts. They grow in thick fields, known as meadows. Sea grass meadows help clean the ocean water, and provide food and home for many sea creatures. Importantly, sea grass meadows also help in the fight against the climate problems. That’s because they store a great deal of carbon — the harmful pollution that’s making global warming worse. Damaging (破坏) these sea grass meadows can release this pollution again, so it’s important to protect them. However, the ocean is too huge for humans to study all by diving (潜水). A team of scientists decided to have tiger sharks help with the research because tiger sharks live underwater, swim fast and spend a lot of time in sea grass meadows. The researchers attached cameras and other trackers to seven tiger sharks. After catching the sharks, the scientists worked quickly to attach the equipment, then let them go again. The cameras were designed to fall off after a few hours and float (漂浮) to the surface. Tracking signals helped the scientists find the floating cameras and collect the videos the sharks had taken over the sea floor. Putting all the data together, the scientists learned that the waters around the Bahamas are home to the largest sea grass meadow ever discovered. The project is important for several reasons. Since sea grass is so valuable in fighting global warming, it’s important to know where it is. Oliver Shipley, a leading scientist, says, “If we don’t know where it is, we can’t protect it.” The program also shows how useful large sea animals can be in helping to learn more about life under the sea. Shipley says animals like tiger sharks “… are going to take us to new places that we didn’t know.” 8. What helped the scientists discover the largest ever field of sea grass? A. Ships working underwater. B. Videos taken by tiger sharks. C. Images shot from passing planes. D. Exploration of professional divers. 9. What does the underlined word “release” in paragraph 2 mean? A. Let out. B. Cut down. C. Clear away. D. Wind up. 10. What does paragraph 4 mainly talk about? A. The ways of following large sea animals. B. The steps of fixing cameras to the tiger sharks. C. The unique functions of the signal-tracking equipment. D. The process of finding the world’s largest known sea grass meadow. 11. What can we learn from the last paragraph? A. Sea grass is of high value in research and business. B. Humans have benefited from pollution-free oceans. C. Scientists have solved the climate problems effectively. D. Ocean animals can help uncover more secrets of nature. B 9. A 10. D 11. 根据第四段“Putting all the data together, the scientists learned that the waters around the Bahamas are home to the largest sea grass meadow ever discovered. 根据第二段“Importantly, sea grass meadows also help in the fight against the climate problems. That’s because they store a great deal of carbon — the harmful pollution that’s making global warming worse. 故选A。 根据第四段“The researchers attached cameras and other trackers to seven tiger sharks. 根据最后一段“The program also shows how useful large sea animals can be in helping to learn more about life under the sea. Shipley says animals like tiger sharks “… are going to take us to new places that we didn’t know.” China is recognized as a world leader in the development of artificial intelligence (AI) and facial recognition systems. A Chinese company says it has created a new facial recognition system that can identify people even if they are wearing masks. Engineers at the Beijing-based company say their system is the first to be created to effectively identify people wearing face masks. The company told a news agency that a team of 20 people built the system in about a month. The system is based on existing technologies developed over the past 10 years. The process involved adding a collection of about 6 million unmasked faces and a much smaller collection of masked faces, the company said. The company is now selling two main kinds of products that use the new technology. One performs “single channel” recognition, which is designed to be used at the entrances to buildings. The other product is a “multi-channel” recognition system that uses groups of surveillance (监视) cameras. It can identify individuals in a crowd of up to 30 people within a second. “When people are wearing a mask that covers the mouth and the nose, the recognition rate can reach about 95%, which can ensure that most people can be identified,” said Huang, vice president of the company. He added that the system’s success rate for people not wearing a mask is about 99.5%. However, the new system struggles to identify people wearing both a mask and sunglasses. “In this situation, all of the key facial information is lost. In such cases recognition is tough,” Huang said. People react to the new technology differently. While some citizens have been against using such tools, the majority have accepted the technology as an effective way to reduce crime and catch criminals. 12. What did the company do to build the system? A. It gathered many face images. B. It used the latest technology. C. It added a collection of masks. D. It employed hundreds of people. 13. What can we know about the new system? A. Its success rate is affected by cameras. B. It recognizes groups of people in seconds. C. Its performance changes with the location. D. It does better in identifying unmasked faces. 14. What is the author’s attitude towards the new system? (改编) A. Negative. B. Doubtful. C. Objective. D. Supportive. 15. What can be the best title for the text?(自创) A. An Effective Way to Reduce Crime B. Benefits of a New Facial Recognition System C. The Development of AI D. A New Facial Recognition System 【答案】12. A 13. D 14. C 15. 根据文章第二段“The system is based on existing technologies developed over the past 10 years. The process involved adding a collection of about 6 million unmasked faces and a much smaller collection of masked faces, the company said.(该系统基于过去10年开发的现有技术。 故选A项。 根据文章第四段“When people are wearing a mask that covers the mouth and the nose, the recognition rate can reach about 95%, which can ensure that most people can be identified,(当人们戴着遮住口鼻的口罩时,识别率可以达到95%左右,可以保证大多数人都能被识别出来)”和“He added that the system’s success rate for people not wearing a mask is about 99.5%.(他补充说,该系统对不戴口罩的人的成功率约为99.5%)”可知,该系统在识别未戴面具的面孔方面做得更好。 While some citizens have been against using such tools, the majority have accepted the technology as an effective way to reduce crime and catch criminals.(人们对新技术的反应不同。 根据第一段中的“A Chinese company says it has created a new facial recognition system that can identify people even if they are wearing masks. Engineers at the Beijing-based company say their system is the first to be created to effectively identify people wearing face masks.(一家中国公司表示,他们已经开发出一种新的面部识别系统,即使人们戴着口罩也能识别出来。 A study published in the Health Communication Journal has found that consuming too much bad news can worsen our mental and physical health, leaving us in a state of high alert. ____16____? 句子主语“the women's singles tennis semifinals(网球女单半决赛)”是复数形式,be动词在一般过去时中的复数形式为were。故填were。 故填while。 “the first +名词+ to do sth.” 所以这里用to win修饰“the first Chinese player”,表示“第一位获得…… 故填to win。 “significance(意义)”对应的形容词是“significant(有意义的)”,“be of significance”就表示“有意义的”,所以这里填of。故填of。 “____10____ has her own strength and tenacious fighting spirit”这部分是一个非限制性定语从句,用来修饰先行词“Zheng Qinwen”。 故填who。 Dear Fred, I’m writing to share with you a significant performance in an elder-care-center last weekend. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Yours, Li Hua 【答案】Dear Fred, I’m writing to share with you a significant performance in an elder-care-center last weekend. He thought, “Nothing good can come to a nation whose people only complain and expect others to solve their problems.” One day, he had an idea that he could do something to test and teach his people. Early one morning, the king disguised (装扮) himself and went to a local village. He placed a large stone in the middle of the main street and hid some gold coins under the stone. He made it a rule that anyone removing the stone could get the coins. Then he hid behind a huge maple tree and watched. Soon the villagers began their daily routine and came to the street one after another. The first person down the street was a milkman with his cart. He crashed into the stone, spilling the milk everywhere. “What fool put this stone here?” he shouted. He picked himself up and angrily went away. After a while, a group of women came along, each balancing a pot of water on her head. One woman tripped over (绊倒) the stone and her water pot went crashing to the ground. She picked herself up and limped away in tears. Neither she nor her friends thought about moving the stone out of the road. Then came more people. The king watched all morning, only to find that those people complained about the stone, but nobody made an attempt to move it. The king was in despair. “Is there no one in this village who feels any responsibility to keep their neighbors from harm?” Shaking his head, he decided to turn back. Just then, the king saw a young girl coming along. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Just then, the king stepped out from behind the tree. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Just then, the king saw a young girl coming along. She had been working in the field all morning. Tired as she was, she stopped to move the stone out of the way when observing it. She thought, “This stone is a danger to anyone who comes down the street after dark.” With all her might and a great deal of effort, she finally managed to move it to the street side. Imagine her surprise when she saw the gold coins where the stone had been! But, as an honest girl, she didn’t want to take them away as her own. Just then, the king stepped out from behind the tree. Seeing this, the girl felt shocked and said, “Oh sir, does this gold belong to you? If not, we surely must find the owner, for he will certainly miss it.” The king said, “My dear, it’s mine. I put it in the road and moved the stone over it. Now the gold is yours, because you are the only person who has learnt the lesson I wanted to teach my people.” To his surprise, the girl didn’t keep it for herself but decided to donate it to the village school. 词汇激活 行为类 ①看到:observe/notice ②带走:take them away as her own/keep it for herself ③学习:learn/study 情绪类 ①确定:surely/certainly ②惊讶的:shocked/ surprised 【点睛】[高分句型1] Imagine her surprise when she saw the gold coins where the stone had been!(由连接词when引导的时间状语从句,where引导的地点状语从句) [高分句型2] Now the gold is yours, because you are the only person who has learnt the lesson I wanted to teach my people.(由because引导的原因状语从句,关系代词who引导的定语从句,省略that引导的定语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 射洪中学高2023级高二上期入学考试 英语试题 (考试时间:150分钟 满分:150分) 注意事项: 1. 1. B. The king watched all morning only to find that those people complained about the stone, but nobody made an attempt to move it. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
