How to Face Grade Nine
Hello, everyone! We have been here in Grade Nine. Some of us feel good, while some do not. How should we face this year?
First of all, we need to develop healthy living and learning habits. Get enough sleep and exercise every day. Plan our time wisely and do our school work carefully.
Secondly, we should develop good qualities. Always be confident and try our best to do everything. What’s more, we should be careful and pay attention to details.
It is also important to be good at subjects. If we have exams, we should go over what we have learned carefully. When we feel stressed, we can surround ourselves with the color orange, as it has the power to cheer us up.
Face the year bravely. It is you who shape your life and future! That’s all. Thanks for your attention.

My Uncle
The person who has influenced me most is my uncle. He is in his thirties and is a math teacher in a local middle school.
My uncle is a very modest and serious person. He always works to high standards. He is patient enough to answer his students’ questions. No matter how diffcult the questions are, he will try his best to make them understood. He is also a man full of love. When he has some money left, he donates it to someone in need. For example, he often gives clothes and books to the poor children in the village.
My uncle likes red because he thinks red represents power and strong feelings. He also likes sports because he believes that sports can keep him healthy and energetic.
Whenever I have problems, I will turn to him for help. He has a great influence on me. He helps me make a study plan and suggests that I can choose my hobbies according to my free time. This helps me achieve a balance between my schoolwork and hobbies. Moreover, he teaches me to be a kind person and never give up.
In a word, my uncle is the person who has influenced me most. I hope I can be like him in the future.

When it comes to making friends, don’t be afraid to take the initiative. Join a club or activity you’re interested in, smile and be open to meeting new people. To build confidence, focus on your strengths and celebrate your achievements, no matter how small. Remember everyone has their own pace of progress. If you’re struggling to communicate with your parents, try to find a time when you’re both relaxed and can talk openly. Share your feelings and listen to their perspective as well.
I hope these suggestions help you navigate these challenges.

Small Things Can Make a Big Difference
In the vast ocean of life, it is often the smallest waves that create the biggest ripples. I have come to understand that small things can indeed make a big difference.
I recall a time when I started picking up litter on my daily walks. Initially, it was a small act done out of habit. However, as I continued this practice, I noticed that others around me began to follow suit. This simple act of cleanliness not only improved the environment but also inspired a sense of community and responsibility among my neighbors. It was a small thing, but it made a big difference in our shared space.
In conclusion, small things can indeed make a big difference. They serve as the foundation for greater achievements and can inspire others to join in the effort.

The expression, “everybody’s doing it,” is very much at the center of peer pressure (同伴压力). It is a social influence applied on an individual in order to get that person to act or believe in a 1 way as a larger group. This 2 can be negative or positive, and can exist in both large and small groups.
People are social creatures by nature, and so it is hardly 3 that some part of their self-respect comes from the approval (认可) of others. This explains why the approval of peers, and the fear of 4 , is such a powerful force in many people’s lives. This instinct (本能) drives people to dress one way at home and another way at work, or to answer a simple “fine” when a stranger asks “how are you?” 5 it is not necessarily true.
For certain individuals, 6 for social acceptance is so important that it becomes an addiction (上瘾): in order to satisfy the desire (渴望), they may go too far and 7 their sense of right and wrong. Some young people may feel forced to use drugs, or join gangs (帮派) that 8 criminal behavior. Some adults may sometimes end up in debt (负债) because they are unable to hold back the desire to buy a house or car that they can’t afford in order to 9 the peers.
10 , peer pressure is not always negative. A student whose friends do well in 11 may be motivated to work harder and get good grades. Players on a sports team may feel driven to play harder in order to help the team win. This type of influence can also get a friend off drugs, or to help an adult develop a good habit or drop a bad one.
Although peer pressure is sometimes quite 12 , some people may not even notice that it is affecting his or her behavior. For this reason, when making important decisions, such as choosing a career path or deciding on a major investment, simply going with an instinct is 13 . Instead, people should seriously consider 14 they feel attracted to taking a certain action. Is it because of their own values, long-term goals, or personal interests? They should also consider whether the real 15 behind their action is simply that everyone else is doing the same thing. Taking the time to think and make a wiser decision can lead to a proper and fulfilling life.

Passage 1
Research recently published in the journal Science studied land subsidence (地面沉降) in China’s major cities, raising people’s worries about land sinking in the country.
However, Hu Xie, co-author of the study, said this idea isn’t right scientifically. “Almost every city has areas of sinking and uplift (上升),” Hu told the Intellectual, a new science and technology media. The sinking of certain areas in a city does not mean the whole city is sinking. Human activities, like digging to build or taking out groundwater, are often the reason for it. What matters is how the areas are influenced and how quickly the land changes.
In fact, during times of fast economic development, the rate of land subsidence in China has been much slower compared to other countries.
For example, in San Jose, California, US, certain areas sank by 1.2 meters between 1912 and 1933. This was the time when the area quickly developed. The subsidence rate in Tokyo, Japan, even reached 27 centimeters a year during the 1950s. However, the subsidence rates in major Chinese cities are still around a few millimeters a year.
Even so, the government has taken measures to slow down the sinking. The key is not taking out too much water from the ground. The South-to-North Water Diversion Project (南水北调工程) is offering a helping hand to the country’s northern cities. Through this project, less water from the ground is used in northern areas and land subsidence in many areas of Beijing and Tianjin has stopped.
Shanghai has also reduced yearly ground subsidence from around 10 mm in 1995 to 6 mm in 2019 through efforts such as improving the water supply system (供水系统) and closing deep wells (井), according to The Paper.
1.Hu Xie might agree that ________.
A.nearly half of China’s cities are sinking B.land subsidence is not a problem at all
C.the sinking of certain areas matters most D.many cities have areas of sinking and uplift

A.Water pollution. B.High buildings.
C.The use of groundwater. D.The South-to-North Water Diversion Project.
3.What measure has Shanghai taken to stop land subsidence?
A.Using less groundwater. B.Using water from southern cities.
C.Encouraging people to use more water. D.Using recycled water.
4.What is the purpose of the passage?
A.To show the rate of land subsidence in China.
B.To introduce the South-to-North Water Diversion Project.
C.To explain the different causes of land subsidence.
D.To discuss land subsidence and present solutions.

Passage 4
Humans are getting away from the nature gradually because of the developing technology. But now Digital Technology is offering us an opportunity to listen to the sounds in the nature in powerful ways, making us get closer to the worlds of animals and plants.
All around the nature, there are sounds that we struggle to pick up and understand. Elephants, for example, communicate with each other using infrasound, a sound far below our human hearing range. Coral in the ocean also communicates with each other through sound waves, with one purpose of attracting baby coral to areas where it can successfully grow. This is a shocking fact as coral doesn’t have any ears!
To pick up sounds humans are normally unable to hear, scientists have placed listening devices in these environments. Researchers have attached (连接) tiny microphones to honeybees and turtles, and stuck listening posts that can receive different sound waves from coral reefs and trees. These devices are controlled by computers and networked with digital sensors and satellites. When interconnected, these digital devices work like a hearing aid: enabling humans to observe and record nature’s sounds beyond the limits of our own listening ability. After the sounds are recorded, AI is then able to determine their meanings.
With this technology, humans can not only understand the animals, but also communicate back to them. For example, a team of researchers in Germany decoded the honeybees’ behavior with AI. Then they taught tiny robots how to do the honeybee dance. Using these dancing machines, the scientists were able to order the honeybees to stop moving, and to communicate where to fly to collect a specific nectar. In addition to the possibility of speaking with animals, the research could also be used to create a form of healing for animals and plants. That’s to say, in the near future, scientists might be able to get coral to grow in certain areas by playing “healthy reef” sounds, which could help some of the damage we have caused to become healthy again.
Now, Digital Technology provides a new way for humans to listen to the lively sounds all around us. The dream of allowing humans to communicate with different animals and plants throughout the nature is being on its way.
1.Which of the following is NOT true about listening devices?
A.AI can help to explain the meanings of nature’s sounds.
B.The hearing aid collects the sounds from the animals or plants.
C.Scientists need to connect the devices with computers and networks.
D.The devices can record nature’s sounds beyond people’s listening ability.
2.Which is the right order to pick up the sounds from the nature for scientists?
a. Analyze the meanings with the help of AI.
b. Place listening devices into the nature world.
c. Collect the sounds from the animals or plants.
d. Connect the devices with computers and networks.
A.c→d→b→a B.b→c→d→a C.c→b→a→d D.b→d→c →a
3.What can you infer from the last paragraph?
A.Scientists are likely to discover a new way of recording.
B.Humans will have better communication with the nature.
C.It’s possible for people to dance with the honeybee together.
D.Digital Technology can be used to communicate with anything.
4.What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage?
A.To discuss how to control listening devices.
B.To compare different ways for communication.
C.To introduce a technology to get closer to the nature.
D.To suggest how to improve people’s listening ability.
Passage 5
Imagine looking through 3.7 million outfits online to find the right one. Sounds really hard, doesn’t it? Well, with the help of AI stylists, it’s not so hard any more.
An AI stylist can help people choose outfits. It searches for pictures of clothes online and collects thousands of outfits created by human stylists. It can also understand words and pick out important information about each piece of clothing. It keeps all the pictures and words in a data set. Then, the AI stylist gives people fashion ideas according to what they like. A team of people look after the data set (数据集) and make sure it always has the newest information. They help the AI stylist get better at choosing clothes by improving its rules. The AI stylist can also suggest something new to try, even if it’s a little different from what the user usually wears. People often like to try something new!
An AI stylist can run into problems when people from different cultures use it. What is popular in Asia may be different from what is cool in Europe. The AI stylist should know what is popular in each place and change its advice to match people’s wants in different places. So, people make rules for AI stylists to follow. Different countries can change these rules to match different styles.
An AI stylist also has to keep up with “fashion rules”. Sometimes, certain clothes don’t go well together. It is difficult for the AI stylist to understand. So another AI model that can understand the cut, style and colour of outfits adds that information to the data set.
People have compared (比较) outfits by AI stylists and human stylists, and AI stylists have done pretty well. Maybe one day we won’t put together an outfit without using our AI stylists first.
1.What do the team of people do for AI stylists?
A.Control the data set of outfits. B.Test AI stylists’ fashion advice.
C.Connect AI stylists with the Internet. D.Find pictures and words about clothing.
2.Which of the following might be a challenge for an AI stylist?
A.Comparing users from different cultures. B.Suggesting something new for users to try.
C.Picking out important information about clothing. D.Choosing different styles for users from different countries.
3.Which of the following shows the structure of the passage?(①=Paragraph 1, ②=Paragraph 2...)
A.①②③/④⑤ B.①/②③/④/⑤ C.①/②/③/④⑤ D.①/②/③④/⑤
4.What does the writer think of the future of AI stylists?
A.Bright. B.Uncertain. C.Worrying. D.Meaningless.
Passage 6
When you find math hard, you usually ask teachers or parents for help. But now, doctors can help you too!
On Oct 8, Shanghai opened a special clinic (门诊) for children who have problems with math and spatial (空间的) understanding. On that day, six students went there with their parents.
At the clinic, doctors checked how well the students understood math and their spatial skills, and then made plans to help them learn better. They even had special educational games with VR and AR technologies to help students.
A recent study found that about 8.97 percent of children at primary school on the Chinese mainland (中国大陆) have trouble with math and spatial skills, reported Shanghai Daily. Among them, 11.57 percent are in low grades, 10.07 percent are in middle grades and 4.76 percent are in high grades.
The clinic is open every Tuesday. It’s very popular with days getting fully booked.
Special clinics for helping with learning problems are becoming common in China, especially in big cities like Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu, and Nanjing.
However, experts remind parents that these clinics may help students, but they can’t magically (神奇地) turn them into top students. It’s more important to have realistic (实际的) expectations.
Shi Ping from Tianjin Children’s Hospital told China Daily that putting too much pressure on kids can sometimes make learning harder. Parents should think about how they teach their kids and consider making some changes.
After all, just as an expert said, “Doing well in school shouldn’t be the only thing that matters in a child’s life.”
1.The special clinic in Shanghai was opened to ________.
A.provide free math courses for B.help children build interest in math
C.help children with math difficulties D.do research on children’s learning abilities
2.What can we learn from the recent study?
A.Few children have strong spatial skills. B.Younger kids are more likely to have trouble with math.
C.Over 10 percent of children have problems with math. D.Math problems mostly happen to primary school children.
3.What advice does Shi Ping give to parents?
A.Focus more on children’s mental health. B.Encourage their children to work harder.
C.Change how they teach their children. D.Children sometimes need some pressure.
4.What do the experts think about the clinic?
A.It doesn’t help much with math problems. B.People shouldn’t expect it to solve all problems.
C.Parents and children depend too much on it. D.Working hard on math weighs more than going to a clinic.

Teenagers often experience ups and downs in emotions. Sometimes negative (消极的) emotions from present schoolwork and worries about future are with us.
1 They even influence a person’s confidence greatly and make it hard to realize dreams. For example, people who think“I can’t do this” or “I doubt my skills” may fail to finish their tasks. This is one reason why it’s important to know some negative emotions and find ways that change them for the better.

When you wake up every morning, you need to decide what to wear, what to eat, whether to do exercise, etc. Along the road of life, you make many decisions. So you should be careful of decision making. Even one small choice can make a big difference. 1 Here is some advice for you.
Don’t make decisions when you are over-excited, angry or sad. 2 If you can’t stay calm, put off making the decision until you’re thinking clearly.
Most decisions are made better when you have enough information. Do some research to find out as much as you can about your decision.
1 And don’t make decisions until you’ve got a full list of your choices. If you have trouble thinking of all the choices, ask your family or friends for help.
The best way to make a decision is to think about how you’re going to feel about it in the future. Warren Buffett’s 10/10/10 Rule can help you make decisions. 2 How will you feel about your decision in 10 minutes? How about in 10 months? How about in 10 years?

I Am David is a fiction (小说) written by the Danish writer Anne Holm in 1963. The book won six awards. It has been translated into several languages, including English, German and French. It was made into a film in 2003.
The book is about a 12-year-old boy called David and his journey to Denmark after he got away from a Nazi camp. His only friend John died some time before, but since then one of the guards had looked after him and made sure he had enough food. One day, the guard let David escape. He left a bag with some bread and cheese outside of the fence and told David to travel north. After that, David met many people who told him about life outside of the camp. He slowly realized how beautiful the world could be and began to communicate with different people. He saved a girl named Maria from a fire, and she let David spend some time in her home. During his stay, David saw a globe (地球仪) and learnt about different countries. He decided to continue travelling because Maria’s parents are talking about his Nazi camp experience. Later, David saw a newspaper advertisement about him which was placed by his parents. He wrote a letter to tell them he was OK. Later he knew an old lady called Sophia. At the old lady’s home, he saw a picture of a woman in Copenhagen (哥本哈根). David realized he should go to Copenhagen because the woman was his mother. Did you look out of a window today? Many glass factories make windows. They mix old and new glass together for this. Machines heat the sand mixture to a very high temperature. Then they pour the melted glass into a tray (托盘). This tray moves between rollers to make the glass flat. The trays make the glass into a window shape. It is slowly heated and cooled more than one time to make it stronger. It is very hot in a glass factory. People can’t work there, but machines can. Machines do much of the work in making windows because the heat does not hurt them.
A machine can also be used to make glass bottles. It melts glass and puts it into a mold in the shape of a bottle. Air goes into an opening in the bottle shape. Then the glass cools and becomes hard. The bottle must be heated and cooled again very slowly to make it stronger. If it is heated and cooled too fast, the glass will break. Glass bottles are very helpful, they are often used everywhere to hold drinks and food. They are good for storing things so that we use all of the time. As you can see, many things can be made out of glass. Next time you look out of a window or drink from a glass, think about where it came from!
1.What do glass factories use to make windows?
2.How can we make the glass flat?
3.Why can’t we heat or cool the bottles too fast?
4.What can we use glass bottles to do?
5.Try to give the passage a suitable title.

The new round of Palestinian-Israeli conflict (巴以冲突) has lasted for some time, as a result, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians have to leave their homes and thousands of them have died. What is worrying is that this conflict, which can be traced back (追溯) more than 70 years ago, is becoming worse and worse.
Now, the conflict is happening in the Gaza Strip. Over 2 million Palestinians live there. In order to eat away at Palestinian land and prevent Palestinians, Israel has built a long wall.
In 1947, a group of Jews from Europe arrived at a port in Palestine. These Jews held up a sign, which read, “The Germans have destroyed our homeland, please do not destroy our hope.”
Arabs (阿拉伯人) took pity on the Jews’ experiences during World War 2, they welcomed this group of newcomers who had come from faraway places. But they didn’t expect that these Jews came here to build a Jewish country.
After realizing what the Jewish people wanted, Arab leaders said, “We do feel sorry for the hardships that Jews experienced during the war (占领) our land?”
However, with the strong support of the United States and the Soviet Union, Jews built a state of Israel though Arabs were against it. Later, conflicts often broke out between the two sides.
It’s worth mentioning that today, the area of Israel is far larger than Palestinian’s. The Jewish people have seized most of Palestinian land.
The Palestinians received unfair treatment. They were forced to leave their own homes. Most of them can only live in refugee (难民) camps in the Gaza Strip. What’s even worse, these Palestinians live a hard and hopeless life and are unable to make their voices heard by the outside world.
1.When was the first Palestinian-Israeli conflict?
2.Who destroyed the Jews’ homeland during World War Ⅱ?
3.What did the Jews want to build after they arrived in Palestine?
4.Which country’s area is smaller, Israel’s or Palestine’s?
5.What do you think of a war?(请自拟一句话作答)

Passage 1
请认真阅读下列短文,并根据所读内容在文章后表格中空格里填入一个最恰当的单词。注意:每个空格只填1个单词。请将答案填写在答题卡的相应横线上。
This is an unusual truth that anyone older than 25 will already know: as life goes on, time seems to speed up. Think back to childhood when holidays seemed to last forever and you attended a school for what felt like decades. Now consider last year, by contrast, and it probably raced by. As those in their 30s and 40s will know, the effect gets worse with age—and, for people in their 70s, a year can flash by what seems like days. “Where did the time go?” we wonder.
The best reason is that we can keep the important facts in mind longer when our brains have to process more information. Childhood and young adulthood are full of novelty (新奇)—the first time you rode a bike, had a romance, get a job—but, as we get older, things get more routine (常规). You can test this out by remembering a recent experience of novelty in your life, such as travel. A few years back, I went skiing for the first time, and that four-day trip still feels “long”. But I might have difficulty noticing a four-day period in my ordinary life.
One way that can work things out, then, is easy to see: try lots of new things. Travel more, if you can, and to strange places. Try new hobbies and meet new people—you’ll be using your brain with a lot of efforts, and the result will be a life that feels longer, more meaningful. But small changes work, too: even making a change in the route (路线) you take to the office, reading different kinds of novels or choosing a different place to buy your sandwich at lunchtime will have an influence on your feelings.
But novelty can only go so far. Besides, a fulfilling (令人满意的) life requires routine: you can’t build deep relationships, or rise through the ranks at work if you always make new friends or get new jobs or even have new husbands or wives. That’s why the Buddhist teacher Shizen Young suggests another method: learn to meditate (冥想). Even a few minutes a day will get you to have better concentration (专注), and the better you get at concentrating, and the more information your brain will take in during any experience, no matter how boring.
You need to believe in yourself. You’ll be making your whole life a little more novel (新颖的). You’ll be more present and time will pass less quickly; in fact, you’ll make your life longer—without magic pills or creative medical technology.
How to stop time 1 up
The problem
It is not a common truth to anyone who is 2 25 years old that time seems to go faster as life goes on. The 3 you get, the faster time races by.
The 4 of the problem
When things become usual in our life, it might be 5 for you to pay attention to them and so on time passes by. So, experiencing something fresh and special can make you 6 things longer.
Advice on how to solve the problem
●It takes you a lot of efforts to use your brain when trying new things, making you feel that your life is longer and 7 more to you.
●Changing something a little can also make a 8 to your feelings.
●Learning to meditate helps people 9 their concentration and take in more information from boring experiences.
Conclusion
Trust yourself. 10 there might be no new medical technology, you can still live a bit more novel life and experiencing slow flow of time actually makes your life longer.

Years ago, I interviewed a successful advertising man. He told me that he dreamed of being a writer in fact. I never believed he could succeed. However, about ten years later, holding up his new book. He has published more than 100 best sellers.
His ability to see himself as a writer shows a concept (理念) known as “possible selves”. It describes how people’s future life will be: what they may become, or want to become, or even fear to become.
A possible self can bring you far more than daydreams. Your dream can come true if you build a bridge from your “now” self to your possible self. But how do we build that bridge? Here are a few steps you can try.
First of all, just take action. If your dream is to succeed in getting a certain job, attend a course and start by taking up that type of work as a hobby or a side job. You should tell yourself that these are the steps you can take to achieve that goal.
Secondly, when you have a goal, share it. A study found that the adults who sent weekly progress to a friend completed their goals more easily than those who didn’t share their goals. If more friends know about your goal, it is more possible for you to achieve it. That finding was true for all goals.
Finally, get advice from the people who you haven’t spoken to in years. A lot of research has found that when you’re asking for valuable advice, people in your wider network are more likely (可能) to offer it than those closest to you. So, reach out to your weak connections for it when needed.

“Diana has black eyes and black hair. She is pretty.”
Anne became interested in her new “friend”.
“Oh, I’m so glad she’s pretty. I can’t be beautiful so a 4 best friend is wonderful.”
Anne continued, “I had two imaginary friends. At Mrs. Thomas’ house, I used to 5 my reflection in the mirror was another little girl, Katie Maurice. Then I went to live with Mrs. Hammond. I had another imaginary friend, Violetta, and I loved her almost as well as I loved Katie Maurice.”
“You need a real 6 friend to stop your crazy imaginations,” Marilla said.
The next 7 , Marilla took Anne to Diana’s home.
Diana was a very pretty girl, with her mother’s black eyes and hair.
Mrs. Barry said, “Diana, take Anne out into the garden and show her your flowers.”
Outside in the garden, stood Anne and Diana, looking 8 at each other over a cluster of bluebells.
Anne said at last, almost in a whisper, “Diana, do you think you can like me a little — 9 to be my bosom friend?”
Diana laughed. She always laughed before she spoke.
“Sure,” she said. “Anne, I’m awfully glad you’ve come to live at Green Gables.”

2.What is the major cause of land subsidence in China according to the passage?

B.The hearing aid collects the sounds from the animals or plants.

c. Collect the sounds from the animals or plants.
d. Connect the devices with computers and networks.
A.c→d→b→a B.b→c→d→a C.c→b→a→d D.b→d→c →a
3.What can you infer from the last paragraph?

五、任务型阅读之阅读填表

Passage 2
任务型阅读。阅读下列短文,根据短文中的信息完成文后的表格。(每空一词)

【答案】
1.interview 2.Though/Although 3.what 4.beyond 5.achieved/realized 6.steps 7.successfully 8.share 9.easier 10.value
【详解】本文主要介绍了如何把自己现实中的梦想变为可能的一些方法。
1.根据第一段“Years ago, I interviewed a successful advertising man. He told me that he dreamed of being a writer in fact.”可知,几年前,“我”采访了一位成功的广告人,他告诉“我”他梦想成为一名作家。结合表格“I had an...with a successful advertising man ”可知,此处应使用短语had an interview with sb.“采访了某人”,所以空处应填名词interview“采访”。故填interview。
2.根据第一段“I never believed he could succeed. However, about ten years later, holding up his new book. He has published more than 100 best sellers.”可知,“我”从不相信他会成功,但十年后他出版了100多本畅销书。结合表格“...I believed he couldn’t make it, he published over 100 books ten years later.”可知,前后句是让步关系,应用though或although引导此让步状语从句,句首首字母要大写。故填Though/Although。
3.根据第二段“It describes how people’s future life will be”可知,它描述了人们未来的生活将是什么样子。结合表格“It describes...people’s future life will be like.”可知,此处应使用what...will be like“……将是什么样子”。故填what。
4.根据第三段“A possible self can bring you far more than daydreams.”可知,一个可能的自我能让你超越白日梦。结合表格“A possible self can bring you...daydreams.”可知,介词beyond“超出”符合语境。故填beyond。
5.根据第三段“Your dream can come true if you build a bridge from your ‘now’ self to your possible self.”可知,如果你在“现在”的自己和可能的自己之间架起一座桥梁,你的梦想就能实现。结合表格“Your dream will be...if you build a bridge between your ‘’now’ self and your possible self.”可知,空处意为“实现”,英文表达是achieve或realize,主语dream与动词achieve或realize之间为被动关系,应用被动语态,结构为be done,所以空处应填achieve或realize的过去分词achieved或realized。故填achieved/realized。
6.根据第三段“Here are a few steps you can try.”以及表格中“◆Firstly, take action...◆ Secondly...your goal...◆ Thirdly, ask for advice.”可知,表格这一栏介绍的是一些你可以尝试的步骤,所以空处应填名词step“步骤”的复数形式steps。故填steps。
7.根据第四段“If your dream is to succeed in getting a certain job, attend a course and start by taking up that type of work as a hobby or a side job.”可知,如果你的梦想是成功获得一份特定的工作,参加一个课程,从把这种类型的工作作为业余爱好或副业开始。结合表格“If you dream of getting a certain job...take a course in it and start the work as a hobby or a side job.”可知,空处应填副词successfully“成功地”,用于修饰动词getting。故填successfully。
8.根据第五段“Secondly, when you have a goal, share it.”可知,其次,当你有了目标,就去分享它。结合表格“Secondly...your goal.”可知,空处意为“分享”,应用动词share,此处是祈使句的肯定形式,所以share保持原形。故填share。
9.根据第五段“A study found that the adults who sent weekly progress to a friend completed their goals more easily than those who didn’t share their goals.”可知,一项研究发现,向朋友发送每周进度的成年人比那些没有分享目标的人更容易完成目标。结合表格“A study found it...for the adults to achieve their goals by sharing them than those who didn’t.”可知,此处应用“find it+形容词+for sb. to do sth.”结构,再结合句中的“than”可知,空处应用形容词比较级,形容词easy“容易的”的比较级easier符合语境。故填easier。
10.根据最后一段“A lot of research has found that when you’re asking for valuable advice, people in your wider network are more likely (可能) to offer it than those closest to you.”可知,大量研究发现,当你寻求有价值的建议时,你更广泛的人际网络中的人比你最亲近的人更有可能提供建议。结合表格“People in your wider network are more likely to offer you advice of great...”可知,此处应表示你更广泛的人际网络中的人更有可能给你提供有价值的建议。great为形容词,其后修饰名词,所以名词value“价值”符合语境。故填value。

Recently, people in Brisbane, Australia have shown great interest in a series of mini doors in their streets. Tourists and local people have been sharing photos and videos after discovering them. “Why are they here?” Many people wonder.
The first mysterious mini door appeared in the centre of Brisbane in 2017. It is red and just a few centimeters in height. Since then, more and more mini doors have been found all over the city.
The mini doors are the works of Mace Robertson. The Australian artist calls them “fairy (精灵) doors”.
And he recently says that he has created so many mini doors that he himself cannot even remember exactly how many there are.
Robertson started to create the series after seeing mini doors in many other cities. One woman from Georgia in the USA kept the fairy door tradition (传统) alive for years. Some European cities then started to do the same thing.
“I thought Brisbane needed more art,” Robertson says. “So, I decided to make mini doors, too.”
Kids certainly love the mini doors. Some have even left notes for the “fairies”. And people of all ages in Brisbane start to take part in the sport of discovering the mini doors. And Robertson says there is no sign that he’ll stop—we can only expect to see more “fairy doors” in the future!

However, as I continued this practice, I noticed that others around me began to follow suit.
