①Do you notice that the sea gets warmer every few years? This is called “El Nino”—a big area of warm water in the Pacific Ocean. But why does it happen?
②El Nino starts when something changes the winds. Scientists think the winds come from the northern half of the world and then form this energy. These winds blow south over the ocean. When they meet warm sea water, the water gets even warmer and starts to move.
③Imagine blowing on a cup of soup—the wind makes the soup move. Similarly, strong winds push the warm water east across the Pacific. This warm water piles up (堆积) and creates El Nino. The process happens every 2 to 7 years, making the weather change, like heavy rains.
④As well as the sea water becoming warmer, El Nino affects the weather in every part of the world. It can bring a lot of heavy rain. Besides, strong winds can break buildings down. It can even mean that fishermen cannot catch fish.
⑤We can’t do much about El Nino because it’s something that happens by itself in nature. But we can try to improve the weather by not letting the earth get too warm and by keeping the air clean. The most important job for scientists is to learn how to find out when El Nino will bring dangerous weather. Then, people can try to prepare for violent weather such as storms. Modern technology (现代技术) can be helpful. Still, it’s hard to say when or where El Nino will cause problems for us.
37. According to the passage, which picture is NOT the result of the El Nino?
A. B. C. D.
38. Which sentence uses “form” with the same meaning as the underlined word?
A. Ice and water are different forms of the same thing.
B. Please fill in the form with your name and phone number.
C. He is tell the story in the form of a poem.
D. We can form a study group to help each other.
39. Why does the writer write the passage?
A. To ask fishermen to be careful during storms.
B. To give a scientific introduction of El Nino.
C. To help farmers get ready for dry weather.
D. To show people how to stop El Nino.
40. What’s the structure of the passage?

Chinese people think honesty is very important. Many stories throughout history show us the importance of this virtue. Let’s take a look at two of them.
The first story is about Ji Bu, a general (将军) in the Western Han Dynasty. Whenever Ji made a promise, he would do everything he could to keep it. People respected his honesty, and a saying widely spread, “It is better to have a promise from Ji Bu than to get lots of gold.” Later, the saying turned into an idiom, “A promise is worth (值) lots of gold.” Even today, we still use it to describe an honest person.
The other story is about a businessman named Li Daquan. During the Qing Dynasty, people mainly used gold, silver and copper as money. It was all heavy. People who carried a lot of money would be in danger because others might notice them and hurt them to get the money. One day, a friend suggested that Li set up bank branches (分行) and use drafts (汇票). When people put their money in one branch, they would get a draft. They could then use the draft to get their money back from other branches.
Li liked the idea and acted quickly. Word soon got around. Li’s honesty in running his bank brought him many customers. His bank, called Rishengchang, grew to 35 branches across the country. As China’s first modern bank, it paved (铺设) the way for the banking system in the country.

When you study or do homework, it’s easy to get distracted (分心) by things around you. A flying butterfly or a phone message can draw your attention away. This is very natural and you don’t even notice that. It is called “unintentional attention (无意注意)”.
Take 13-year-old Rebecca as an example. She once spent 15 minutes looking at her cute pencil case instead of doing math. Now, when distracted, she tells herself, “Back to work! Back to work!” By doing this, she’s changing “unintentional attention” into “intentional attention” (有意注意) — choosing to stay focused (专注) even when distracted.
Some think it’s hard to stay focused, but it’s a skill we can learn. Experts (专家) share some useful advice. First, set a clear goal, like “finish 10 grammar exercises”. Then, if distracted, bring your mind back. You can also use a quiet place to study.
In a world full of distractions, learning to focus helps you study better. Next time you sit down to study, try these tips and you will find it becomes easier to stay focused!
When studying, ____60____ like butterflies or phone messages. “Unintentional attention” happens a lot. Luckily, Rebecca now turns it into “intentional attention” by telling herself to work. Experts suggest ____61____, bringing minds back when distracted and studying in quiet places. ____62____ for better study in a distracting world. Trying these tips ____63____ to stay focused.

46. Was Ji Bu an honest person?
_______________________________________________
47. What did people mainly use as money before drafts came out in the Qing Dynasty?

48. Why were drafts better than traditional money?

This is ________ ________ interesting book that we all enjoy reading it.

Some think it’s hard to stay focused but it’s a skill we can learn.

A Fantastic Trip in My Summer Vacation
The two-month summer vacation came to an end. I’d like to share a fantastic trip I had.
In mid-July, I went to the beach in Sanya with my best friend. The weather there was sunny and warm, perfect for a beach holiday.
We did lots of fun activities. We built sandcastles on the soft beach and swam in the clear blue sea. We also tried surfing. Although it was a bit difficult at first, we finally managed to stand on the surfboard.
