Passage 1
(2025·天津南开·三模)Summer Camp Rules
Whether it’s your child’s first year at camp, or they are a seasoned camper and need a little refresher, it’s a good idea to go over summer camp rules and guidelines before leaving for camp. Camp rules are in place to keep the camp community safe and camp operations running smoothly throughout their stay.
1.Keep Your Personal Space Clean
Since your child will be in close quarters with many other campers, it’s important that they understand the necessity of keeping their sleeping and living areas organized.
Go over ways for your child to stay organized and tidy before they leave for camp. When packing, make sure to provide a laundry bag to keep clean and dirty clothing separate. Utilize under bed space or put clothes on your shelves or cubbies rather than living out of your suitcase or camp trunk.
It also helps to not over pack. Follow packing list guidelines closely so your child can find what they need without having to dig through piles of clothing that were not recommended. This also helps you child know what they have in their luggage so they pull out the sweatshirt when it gets cold, instead of thinking there wasn’t one in their bag. Remind your child of their camp account so they can purchase items from the camp store if necessary.
2.Valuables at Camp
As a best practice, we recommend leaving all valuables at home. Even if your child has a bracelet or necklace that they never take off, there is still the chance that it could be lost while swimming or participating in camp activities.
If you are thinking about bringing an expensive item of clothing, be prepared for it to get lost or damaged. You may be better off buying a new, less expensive version. To be on the safe side, don’t let your child bring anything irreplaceable or emotionally valuable to camp.
3.Play Nice
Name calling, fighting, bullying, and arguing are strictly prohibited at summer camp. Camp is a place to make friends, so aggressive behavior is not tolerated. Remind your child that they don’t have to be everybody’s best friend, but they do have to be friendly to everyone.
Encourage your child to go into camp with the mindset of making a few new friends, and chances are they will leave camp having made more than a few.
4.Have Fun and Try New Things
At the end of the day, summer camp is about getting out of your comfort zone, trying new things, and having a blast. Before your child leaves for camp, congratulate them for being brave enough to try sleepaway camp in the first place. Let them know that they’ve already won just by trying, and the fun part is just about to begin. Remind them again that summer camp rules exist only to improve the overall camp experience and to create a community of fun.

We hesitate and declare them unacceptable. Yet there are no universal standards for good cuisine (烹饪);there’s only badly cooked food. We may not like some foreign dishes but that has nothing to do with their being inferior or superior. It has everything to do with how removed they are from what we know.
A few years back I wasn’t particularly fond of Indian dishes with their strong spices. Then an Indian family moved in next door and I immediately became friends with the lady. Being very friendly people, they kept asking me over. Seeing as I had no choice, I gave in, went over and waited in horror. They served a lot of strange-looking dishes, whose aroma (香味) was inviting enough for me to sample them. And I felt sorry I did. My tongue felt like it was on fire! But I saw it through to the end so as not to endanger our neighbourly relationship. Needless to say, I was asked to come back for more. It took a few months, but I have actually come to love some hot Indian curries and overly honeyed desserts.
In contrast, American steaks and burgers now strike me as downright dull, although I used to love them. Then there’s Japanese cuisine, which I associated with a smelly sushi bar next door until I went on a trip to Japan. I was served dishes of suspicious smell day in day out and, although they didn’t seem particularly delicious, upon my return home I found myself repeatedly wandering into that sushi bar around the corner. The smell I had thought terribly fishy before now seemed familiar and mouth-watering.
In short, I have acquired the taste for some foreign dishes but not for all the food of any particular cuisine. In a way, the ability to acquire the taste for new foods has to do with a person’s ability to accept a culture. The ‘acquired taste’ for food goes beyond a taste bud (味蕾) experience. It has a lot to do with what a person associates the food with, like friendly neighbours or a memorable journey. Similarly, many of us find our mother’s cooking incomparable. But that isn’t necessarily because of our mother’s superior kitchen skills but because we associate her cooking with the warmth of home.
1.According to the author, what determines whether we like foreign dishes?
A.Universal standards of good cuisine
B.The price and presentation of the food
C.The skill of the chef who prepares them
D.How different they are from what we know.
2.Why did the author eventually enjoy Indian curries despite initial discomfort?
A.The dishes became less spicy over time.
B.Repeated exposure helped him adapt to the flavors.
C.The neighbor’s persistence made it impossible to refuse.
D.He discovered superior cooking methods in Indian cuisine.
3.Why does the author mention his neighbor’s sushi bar in Japan?
A.To criticize the hygiene standards of foreign restaurants.
B.To show how familiarity can change perceptions of food.
C.To illustrate that Japanese cuisine is universally superior.
D.To highlight the importance of trying raw fish dishes.
4.According to the last paragraph, acquiring new tastes ______ .
A.is a sign of how open-minded a person is
B.depends on how sensitive your taste buds are
C.is like acquiring various cooking knowledge
D.becomes easier if your mother isn’t a great cook
5.Which statement best summarizes the overall message of the article?
A.Travelling is the best way to acquire new tastes.
B.The smells and sight of food are often misleading.
C.The stranger the food, the more difficult it is to like it.
D.Experiences are crucial in determining food preferences.

Passage 4
(24-25高三上·天津南开·期末)Is an Electric Vehicle fight for you?
Many people will ask themselves that question for the first time this year. Prices are falling, battery range is rising and mainstream brands are adding new EVs at a breakneck pace.
Here are three things anybody seriously considering buying an EV should know:
1. The price to install (安装) a 240v charger
Anybody who owns an electric vehicle needs a 240-volt charger at home. With one, you can recharge overnight, so you start every day with the equal amount of a full tank.
Just a few years ago, home 240v EV chargers cost $2,500-$3,000, including installation, but prices have declined as competition grows with the number of EVs on the road.
2. The time it takes to charge
About 80% of miles driven in EVs are powered by electricity charged at home, but you’ll need to charge elsewhere occasionally. That’s when charging time becomes a big deal, but how long it takes depends on a couple of factors.
First, voltage (电压) from the charger. Getting 250 miles of range in seven hours from a 240v charger is fine when you re charging overnight at home, but it’s a problem if you’re going 300 miles for a weekend trip. In that case, you’ll want to look for a 400v fast charger. They’re not as common as 240v public chargers yet, but they’re becoming more widespread.
There’s another factor: the on-board charger. It regulates how fast the battery can accept electricity. A vehicle with a higher-capacity on-board charger accepts electricity faster.
3. Where to charge
Good route-planning apps will help you find chargers on a road trip easily.
“Most people have no idea how many public charging stations are within, say, a 10-or 15-mile radius (半径) because they’re small, people don’t look for them or even don’t know what to look for, and they’re rarely signposted,” said journalist John Voelcker, who has studied EVs and charging exhaustively.
4. On the horizon
If an EV doesn’t meet your needs now, watch this space. They’re coming closer. but large numbers of gasoline vehicles will remain in production for years. Beyond that, companies will keep making spare parts for oil-burners for decades.
1.What is the primary benefit of having a 240-volt charger at home for EV owners?
A.It allows for faster travel. B.It enables overnight recharging.
C.It reduces the cost of electricity. D.It increases the battery capacity.
2.What is a significant factor affecting how long it takes to charge an EV?
A.The speed of the vehicle. B.The weight of the vehicle.
C.The type of battery used. D.The voltage from the charger.
3.According to the article, how do most people feel about public charging stations?
A.They find them easy to locate.
B.They are well aware of their locations.
C.They often underestimate their availability.
D.They prefer to use home chargers completely.
4.What does the article suggest about the future of gasoline vehicles?
A.They will be completely disappear in a few years.
B.They will continue to be produced for years.
C.They will become more expensive than EVs.
D.They will have better technology than EVs.
5.This passage is mainly intended to .
A.offer advice on purchasing an electric vehicle.
B.illustrate the factors charging time depends on.
C.look forward to the future of electric vehicles.
D.explain the reason for the falling prices of electric vehicles.

Passage 3
(2022·天津·高考真题)Getting into college is a big step for high school graduates, and it comes with a lot of changes. For most students, it’s the first time they’re living away from home and managing their own life. Not surprisingly, adapting to this new lifestyle can be challenging. The following four tips will make high school graduates better prepared for college life.
Goal setting
When setting goals, whether they’re academic, career, or personal, re-member they should be attainable but not too easy, so that you really have to push yourself to achieve them, and feel rewarded when you do. Writing down your goals and breaking down each huge, long-term goal into smaller more practical ones can help make it feel more real, and writing out a plan for achieving it can give you a roadmap to success.
Interpersonal skills
At college, you will interact with fellow students, professors, librarians, and many others. Strong interpersonal skills will help you build relationships during this time, and get more out of them. If you feel that your interpersonal skills need some work, practice asking thoughtful questions and listening closely, develop your understanding by putting yourself in someone else’s shoes, and enhance your self-confidence.
Studying
With fewer in-class hours and more on-your-own learning, you’re required to really digest learning material rather than simply memorize facts. To be successful in college you’ll need to learn how to integrate large amounts of information obtained through reading, do research, and write papers. Organization is the key, so if you are not someone who is naturally organized, set up your study schedule.
Budgeting
Managing money is a critical life skill, and for many, it is at college that they develop it for the first time. Start by estimating your financial balance. Then give high priority to the expenses on basic needs and determine how much money to set aside every month to cover those costs. Don’t forget about savings…and the fun stuff(movies, dinners out), too.

Passage 5
(2021·天津·高考真题)When starting college, most students enjoy a week's stay on campus before classes actually begin. What should you do with that time? Below are several tips to ease(使熟悉) yourself into college life.
Participating in Campus Welcome Activities
Most universities host welcome events before the academic year officially begins, including freshmen orientations (迎新会),campus picnics, and entertainments like concerts.
Participating in such events is a great way to learn about school facilities and understand campus culture: What do students do for fun? What are their favorite classes? What is the history of your university? It can help you observe campus life outside the classroom.
Exploring Campus
Getting to know where essential campus resources are—such as the student advising center, psychological services, and the tutoring center~~will make your first few weeks on campus a lot easier, because you won't have to look for them while still getting used to your classes.
Take some time to check out the buildings where your classes will be held. This will prevent you from getting lost in the first few days of classes, and familiarize you with how long it takes to get from place to place. If you're worried about taking classes one after another in different buildings, a quick test run won't hurt. That way, you will avoid potential time delays in getting to your classes.
Starting a Routine
Before getting too excited about all of the fun things you will be able to do during the week, remember that you do have a pretty big schedule change coming up. Starting classes means being in different places at different times, so it’s a great idea to start getting used to that routine right this week.
What helps you most is to schedule your sleep. Following the planned time will ensure you have enough sleep to get to those early classes and stay wide awake.
If you have other daily routines, such as exercising or talking on the phone with family, work those into your day-to-day life before classes start so that you get a better idea of how they fit in with your schedule.
1.By participating in campus welcome activities, freshmen can .
A.learn about campus culture
B.get their course schedule
C.have a physical examination
D.take an entrance test
2.Why are freshmen advised to have a quick test run between buildings ?
A.To see how many facilities they can use.
B.To avoid being late for future classes.
C.To help those getting lost on campus.
D.To practice running on their way to class.
3.When is it best for freshmen to start getting used to the new routine?
A.On the first day of their classes.
B.Before the orientation week.
C.After their first-day classes.
D.During the orientation week.
4.What does the author suggest freshmen do to stay focused in class?
A.Take physical exercise before class.
B.Leave their phones powered off.
C.Take early classes every day.
D.Keep to the sleep schedule.

A.To offer some tips on making an easier start at college.

Passage 2
(2025·天津南开·三模)What happens when we try foreign dishes for the first time? More often than not it is like finding ourselves in circumstances different from what is comfortably familiar.

1.Who is this passage most probably written for?
