As a full-time senior student, in addition to completing my studies and working part-time, I am also the singer in our school band. I often felt like there just wasn’t enough time. The book’s author suggested waking 30 minutes earlier and making good use of the extra half-hour. At first, I hated it and felt uncomfortable. However, I kept doing it for 28 days. I started getting up at 6:00 a.m. and then spent five minutes writing down some thoughts. Next, I drank some water. After that, I exercised for fifteen minutes, and lastly, looked at my schedule for the day and planned ahead. Nowadays, not only do I feel more energetic and less stressed, but I can also balance my studies and hobbies, because my day is so well-organized. However, shoppers are still laying stress on environmental concerns. Two thirds of customers say that environmental considerations inform their purchases to the same degree as they did a year ago, while more than a quarter say that they are now even better aware of the environmental effect on what they buy. This may help to influence how shops store goods on their shelves. And the companies should still make efforts to become more environmentally friendly. Two out of three people think it is important to buy from environmentally responsible companies, with about one in seven saying that they had even decided to take their custom elsewhere if they felt a company’s environmental reputation was not good enough. Harry Morrison, chief executive (主管) of the Carbon Trust, sympathizes: “I understand this situation where survival is very important now. But from environmental considerations, the clock is ticking — we don’t have much time. In addition, cutting carbon has an immediate effect as costs drop and a medium-term benefit for the brand.” Larger companies have an extra motivation to look at reducing their carbon footprint, as new rules next year will require businesses to buy carbon allowances to make up for their emissions (排放). Those that have taken early action will have a head start. More than two thirds of consumers are not clear about which companies are environmentally responsible. This suggests that firms that are able to relay clearly their message to the public will be in a pole position to attract shoppers. The Carbon Trust believes that it can help by informing customers about the good work companies are doing. “When companies are granted (授予) the standard, they can use a logo (标识) in all their marketing which makes it clear that they are working towards cutting emissions,” Mr. Morrison said. 24. What’s the main idea of the passage? A. Businesses are finding ways to send their message to the shoppers. B. Companies will soon get information about cutting carbon emissions. C. Firms are making efforts to encourage customers to keep goods at home. D. Firms are urged to cut carbon emissions by shoppers, environmental awareness. 25. The underlined word “inform” in Paragraph 2 probably means “ ”. A. affect B. change C. disturb D. reject 26. According to Harry Morrison, businesses . A. will benefit from cutting carbon emissions B. should buy carbon allowances for shoppers C. are required to make up for their carbon emissions D. have encouraged shoppers to take their custom elsewhere 27. We can learn from the passage that businesses will . A. have a strong desire to reduce costs B. use the same logo in their marketing C. gain advantages by taking early action D. attract more shoppers by storing goods 【答案】24. D 25. A 26. A 27. Businesses are witnessing a difficult time, which has in turn produced influence on consumers, desire to go green.(企业正经历一个艰难的时期,这反过来又对消费者产生了影响,促使他们渴望环保)和第二段中的Two out of three people think it is important to buy from environmentally responsible companies, with about one in seven saying that they had even decided to take their custom elsewhere if they felt a company’s environmental reputation was not good enough.(三分之二的人认为从对环境负责的公司购买产品很重要,约七分之一的人表示,如果他们觉得某家公司的环境声誉不够好,他们甚至决定到其他地方去购买)可知,文章主要介绍了消费者和环保意识正敦促企业减少碳排放。 根据该词所在句后面的内容while more than a quarter say that they are now even better aware of the environmental effect on what they buy.(而超过四分之一的人表示,他们现在甚至更加清楚环境对他们所购买产品的影响)可知,Two thirds of customers say that environmental considerations inform their purchases to the same degree as they did a year ago意为“三分之二的消费者表示,环境因素对他们购物的影响与一年前相同”。 故选A。 In addition, cutting carbon has an immediate effect as costs drop and a medium-term benefit for the brand.(此外,随着成本下降,降低碳排放会产生立竿见影的效果,对品牌来说也是中期效益)可推断,企业将从减少碳排放中获益。 Those that have taken early action will have a head start.(那些及早采取行动的企业将占得先机)可知,那些通过早期行动的企业将获得优势。故选C。 C People use laughter to connect and bond with others. It’s how we tell friends that we find their jokes funny, or how kids in a park show that they are having fun. Laughter is so important to humans, even if they belong to different cultures or speak different languages. What about animals? Scientists are studying if there is a connection between animals’ laughing and playing. Sasha Winkler, from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), studies biological anthropology (人类学),including the study of animal behavior. She noticed that the small monkeys she worked with, liked to play together by chasing each other. While having fun together, they made panting (喘气) sounds, almost like they were out of breath, which reminded Winkler of their quiet laughter. This made Winkler wonder whether other animals did so while they were playing. To find out whether other animals laugh and play, Winkler teamed up with another scientist named Greg Bryant, a professor and vice chair in the Department of Communication at UCLA. Together, they found and read dozens of reports written by other scientists who study animals. Winkler and Bryant looked for any mentions in any animal of sound signaling like the panting of the monkeys during their playing. In April 2021, Winkler and Bryant published their findings in a science journal. Through their research, they identified 65 species or groups of animals, which laugh while playing. The animals that laugh the most include primates (灵长类) like monkeys and apes, rodents (啮齿动物) like rats, and mammals that live in the ocean like dolphins. Their work won’t only help us understand animals better but it could also help us understand how humans develop or change over time. Next, they will carry on more study to find more. 28. What is the function of paragraph 1? A. To conclude the main idea. B. To put forward the topic. C. To offer the supporting evidences. D. To add the background information. 29. What are the small monkeys like when they are having fun? A. They can hardly breathe. B. They tend to laugh separately. C. They laugh at a low sound. D They don’t laugh at all. 30. What do we know about Winkler and Bryant’s study? A. It is great progress in the study of animals and humans. B. It is only based on the findings in a science journal. C. Over 65 groups of animals laugh while playing. D. They do the research only by studying primates and rodents. 31. In which section of a newspaper may this text appear? A. Science. B. Education. C. Health. D. Entertainment. B 29. C 30. A 31. 根据第一段后两句“What about animals? Scientists are studying if there is a connection between animals’ laughing and playing.(动物们是怎样的呢?科学家们正在研究动物的笑与玩耍之间是否有联系)”可知,第一段前面所陈述的人类的笑所起到的作用是为了引出本文探讨的主题:对于动物的笑与玩耍之间联系的研究。故选B。 【29题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段倒数第二句“While having fun together, they made panting (喘气) sounds, almost like they were out of breath, which reminded Winkler of their quiet laughter.(当一起玩得高兴时,它们会发出喘气的声音,就像喘不过气似的,这使Winkler想起了它们不出声的笑)”可知,小猩猩们在玩耍时会低声笑。 根据最后一段倒数第二和三句“Their work won’t only help us understand animals better but it could also help us understand how humans develop or change over time.(他们的工作不仅能帮助我们更好地了解动物,还能帮助我们了解人类是如何随着时间的推移而发展变化的)”可知,Winkler和Bryant的研究有重要意义,是关于动物和人类研究的重大进展。故选A。 A。 D Time and time again, you hear someone ask why anyone would want to keep an “ugly” building or a building that is dirty and clearly in need of work or such a simple, uninteresting building. I guess you could say we preservationists look at buildings through a different lens that can see the swan in the ugly duckling. Looking back on the years of dirt and neglect, we’ll realize that it’s our job as preservationists to teach people about the lessons learned from our historic resources. This is no doubt something we can always work harder on. Take the Queen Emma Building for example. While people may remember that building being named as one of the ugliest buildings in town, the angle from which a preservationist will view the building is that it is uniquely constructed with an artistical brise-soleil to block the sun. The designer used standard concrete bricks to form a decorative wall. Unfortunately, the brise-soleil was removed in 2011, making the building look like many of the contemporary buildings in town. Sometimes people remember a beautiful site that was replaced by a “horrid” piece of architecture and can’t get over their anger, even when that building becomes an important part of our story. This is particularly true in San Francisco, where many preservationists themselves dislike anything newer than the Victorian1 era. Yes, it was a tragedy (悲剧) that many failed to appreciate the Victorian buildings and let many get torn down several decades ago, but those losses also tell another important story. It tells the story of the 1950s and 1960s when there was hope for a more equal society with inexpensive housing for the working class. Should that history be wiped from our memories? Preservation is not just about keeping pretty, well-kept buildings, but is meant to convey parts of our history. Our history, our collective history. Not just the history of huge events of World War Il or Statehood, but the story of how everyone used to go to a certain corner market or how the people lived in the segregated (隔离的) plantation town and ultimately enjoyed a more egalitarian (平等主义的) living. Our history cannot be told only in buildings that meet someone’s criteria of beauty; sometimes our history is painful, but no less important. 32. What can we learn about preservationists from Paragraph 1? A. They prefer ugly buildings to beautiful ones. B. They pay great attention to modern buildings. C. They are devoted to repairing famous buildings. D. They focus on the value rather than the appearance. 33. What does the author think of removing the brise-soleil of the Queen Emma Building? A. It’s confusing. B. It’s pleasing. C. It’s regrettable. D. It’s unbelievable. 34. Why were many Victorian buildings in San Francisco torn down? A. To wipe the history of the Victorian era. B. To make land available for cheap housing. C. To work off the deep anger of the working class. D. To restore the architecture before the Victorian era. 35. What might be the best title for the text? A. Are ugly buildings worth preserving? B. Is preservationists’ work meaningless? C. Why do architects make ugly buildings? D. What buildings are of historical value? D 33. C 34. B 35. 根据第一段中“I guess you could say we preservationists look at buildings through a different lens that can see the swan in the ugly duckling. Looking back on the years of dirt and neglect, we’ll realize that it’s our job as preservationists to teach people about the lessons learned from our historic resources.(我认为你可以说,我们保护主义者通过不同的镜头看建筑,可以看到丑小鸭中的天鹅。回顾这尘封和被忽视的岁月,我们会意识到,作为保护主义者,我们的工作是让人们从我们的历史资源中吸取教训)”可知,保护主义者关注的是建筑的价值而不是外观。故选D项。 【33题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段中“Unfortunately, the brise-soleil was removed in 2011, making the building look like many of the contemporary buildings in town.(不幸的是,2011年,遮阳板被拆除,使得这座建筑看起来像城里的许多当代建筑)”可知,作者拆除艾玛女王大厦的遮阳板是遗憾地的事情。 根据第三段中“Yes, it was a tragedy (悲剧) that many failed to appreciate the Victorian buildings and let many get torn down several decades ago, but those losses also tell another important story. It tells the story of the 1950s and 1960s when there was hope for a more equal society with inexpensive housing for the working class.(是的,这是一个悲剧,许多人没有欣赏维多利亚时代的建筑,让许多在几十年前被拆除,但这些损失也讲述了另一个重要的故事。它讲述了20世纪50年代和60年代的故事,当时人们希望建立一个更平等的社会,为工人阶级提供廉价的住房)”可知,旧金山很多维多利亚时代的建筑被拆除,是为了腾出土地为工人阶级建造廉价住房。故选B项。 【35题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文可知,文章第一段提出问题“why anyone would want to keep an ‘ugly’ building or a building that is dirty and clearly in need of work or such a simple, uninteresting building.(为什么会有人想要保留一个“丑陋”的建筑,或者一个很脏很明显需要修缮的建筑,或者一个如此简单,无趣的建筑)”,最后一段给出答案“Preservation is not just about keeping pretty, well-kept buildings, but is meant to convey parts of our history.(保护不仅仅是保持漂亮、保存完好的建筑,而是要传达我们的历史)”,由此推知,“丑陋的建筑值得保存吗?” 故选A项。 Left foot, right foot, left foot, right foot… you can travel fast or slow. It was her first time joining the festival, and she’d put extra effort into the robot — even adding a small camera to let it “explore” and send back photos. She planned to show it to her engineer mom, who’d been busy with work and hadn’t seen her progress yet. Three days before the festival, disaster struck. Olivia was testing the robot on the classroom floor when her classmate accidentally knocked over a bookcase. A heavy textbook fell and hit the robot’s arm, breaking the solar panel connection and bending its metal frame. Olivia picked it up, her hands trembling — all her hard work seemed ruined. She sat alone in the classroom after school, trying to fix it but only making the wires more tangled. The next morning, Olivia dragged the broken robot to school, hiding it in her locker. She didn’t want anyone to see her failure, especially not Noah — a quiet classmate who’d built a winning robot last year. Noah often stayed after school to help others with their science projects, but Olivia was too proud to ask for help. During lunch, Olivia went to the science lab to check the robot again. Just as she sighed in frustration, Noah walked in with his notebook. He noticed the broken robot and stopped. “Is that your Science Festival project?” he asked softly. Olivia nodded, her voice small. “The solar panel’s broken, and I can’t fix the wires.” Noah knelt down to look at the robot. He pointed to the tangled wires and said, “I’ve fixed similar connections before. If you have extra parts, we might be able to repair it.” Olivia’s eyes lit up — she’d kept spare solar panels at home. “I do!” she said. Noah smiled. “Meet me here after school. I’ll bring my tools.” Paragraph 1: After school, Olivia arrived at the science lab with her spare parts, and Noah was already there with a toolbox. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Two hours later, the robot finally started working again. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Paragraph 1: After school, Olivia arrived at the science lab with her spare parts, and Noah was already there with a toolbox. He first used a small screwdriver to take apart the broken frame, then showed Olivia how to untangle the wires gently. “We need to connect the red wire to the positive terminal,” he explained, guiding her hand. Olivia followed carefully, and soon the new solar panel was attached. Noah even helped her adjust the robot’s arm to make it more flexible. Paragraph 2: Two hours later, the robot finally started working again. It moved forward slowly, and the camera began taking photos — just like before. Olivia jumped up in excitement. “Thank you so much, Noah! I couldn’t have done this alone.” Noah shrugged, smiling. “Helping others makes the festival more fun.” When Olivia showed the robot at the festival, it won third place. She took a photo of it with her mom, and later sent a copy to Noah. She realized that asking for help wasn’t weakness — it was how friendships and great projects were built. 词汇激活 行为类 ①用:use/make use of ②拆卸:take apart/take down ③帮助:help/assist/aid 情绪类 ①仔细地:carefully/attentively ②兴奋: excitement/thrill/exhilaration 【点睛】[高分句型1] “We need to connect the red wire to the positive terminal,” he explained, guiding her hand. I often felt like there just wasn't enough time. The book's author suggested waking thirty minutes earlier and making good use of the extra half hour. At first, I hated IT and felt uncomfortable. However, I kept doing IT for twenty eight days. I started getting up at six AM, and then spent five minutes writing down some thoughts. Next I drink some water. After that, I exercise for fifteen minutes. And lastly, looked at my schedule for the day and planned ahead. Nowadays, not only do I feel more energetic and less stressed, but I can also baLance my studies and hobby because my day is so well organized. If you feel like you always need more time to get things done, I highly recommend reading this book. IT has changed my life in ways I could never imagine. What was the woman like in the past? B Businesses are witnessing a difficult time, which has in turn produced influence on consumers, desire to go green. A. will benefit from cutting carbon emissions B. should buy carbon allowances for shoppers C. are required to make up for their carbon emissions D have encouraged shoppers to take their custom elsewhere 27. We can learn from the passage that businesses will . A. have a strong desire to reduce costs B. use the same logo in their marketing C. gain advantages by taking early action D. attract more shoppers by storing goods C People use laughter to connect and bond with others. D. They don’t laugh at all. 30. What do we know about Winkler and Bryant’s study? A. It is great progress in the study of animals and humans. B. It is only based on the findings in a science journal. C Over 65 groups of animals laugh while playing. D. They do the research only by studying primates and rodents. 31. In which section of a newspaper may this text appear? A. Science. B. Education. C. Health. D. Entertainment. D Time and time again, you hear someone ask why anyone would want to keep an “ugly” building or a building that is dirty and clearly in need of work or such a simple, uninteresting building. D. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
