I’ve been motivated – and demotivated – by other folks’ achievements all my life.
When I was a teenager, a neighborhood friend 41 a marathon race. Feeling motivated, I started running 42 regularly, but then two things happened.
41. A. knew B. held C. won D. quit
A. knew知道;B. held抓住;C. won赢得;D. quit退出。
My husband, our children and I havehad wonderful camping experiences over the past ten years.
Some of our 41(memories) are funny, especially fromthe early years when our children were little. Once, we 42 along Chalk Creek. I was 43 (worried) that our 15-month-oldboy would fall into the creek (小溪). I tied a rope around his waistto keep him near to our spot.
42. A. camped B. drove C. walked D. cycled
We had decided on key items for the 42 we were moving to in town, donated what we could, and rented a place to store our supposedly important objects.
……
I sit in my apartment today, loving each of the 53(belongings) that share our small space.
22. A. hotel B. office C. cottage D. apartment
A. hotel 酒店;B. office 办公室;C. cottage 小屋;D. apartment 公寓。根据文章最后一段“I sit in my apartment today”可推知,此处指作者一家人搬到了公寓。
You can tell a lot about a man by how hetreats his dogs.
For many years, I enjoyed living with my dogs, Tilly andChance. Their 41(companionship) was nearly enough to keepmy loneliness at bay, Nearly. Last year, I started dating, but with 42 (reservations). When I first dated Steve, I 43 (learned) he had a dog, Molly, and a cat, Flora. While I was 44(thrilled) that he was an animal lover, I 45 (worried) that threedogs were perhaps too many, and my dogs might attack 46 , the cat.
46. A. Flora B. Chance C. Molly D. Tilly
根据上文“he had a dog,Molly,and a car,Flora”和设空处后the cat为同位语可知,此处应该填猫的名字。故选A。
That left a house still stuffed with things that, while not particularly ___45___, didn’t belong in a landfill
45. A. conventional B. valuable C. complicated D. tolerable
根据上文“while not particularly”以及下文“didn’t belong in a landfill”可推知,此处指虽不贵重但不应丢弃的物品。
Between the girl making my 45(achievement) seem small and the pure boredom of jogging, I decided that the only 46 (reason) I'd ever run again is if a big dog was running after me! So I 47 cycling. I got a bike and rode a lot.
47. A. gave up B. went on C. turned to D. dealt with
根据上文中的“the only 46.reason I'd ever run again is if a big dog was running after me”和空前的So可知,作者放弃了跑步,把目标转向了骑自行车。下文中的“I got a bike and rode a lot.”
Determined to turn her life around, Ms Donohue began to work out and follow a 45(healthy) lifestyle, before discovering a 46 for weightlifting.
46. A. demand B. secret C. passion D. cure
A. demand要求;B. secret秘密;C. passion激情,热情;D. cure疗法、药物。根据上文“Ms Donohue began to work out and follow a 45 lifestyle”以及下文的“for weightlifting”可推知,此处指她积极锻炼身体,对举重产生了热情,a passion for sth.
The next week we 47(walked) our dogs together. It was a hot day. When wepaused to catch our 48 , Steve got down on one knee.
48. A. breath B. balance C. attention D. imagination
根据上文“It was a hot day. 故选A。

31. A. luck B. answer C. wonder D. signal
故选A项。
Evelyn Donohue is a 65-year-old grandma. She only started to 41 seven years ago after having a 42(wake-up) call. She’d been struggling with eating disorders and health issues, which 43(ultimately) led her to getting surgery.
41. A. write B. travel C. exercise D. recover
A. write写作;B. travel旅行;C. exercise锻炼;D. recover康复。根据下文的“ Determined to turn her life around, Ms Donohue began to work out...”
When I decided to buy a house in Europe ten years ago, I didn't think too long. I liked traveling in France, but when it came to picking my favorite spot to 41 , Italy was the clear winner.
During my first visit to Italy, I 42(struggled) to ask for directions or order in a restaurant...After I made Italy my permanent home, I discovered how 46.warm-hearted Italians are.
41. A. study B. rent C. visit D. settle
41. 上文“I liked traveling in France”和下文“During my first visit to Italy”很容易给考生造成一种错觉,认为作者在选择自己最喜欢的旅游目的地。但通读全文,尤其根据首句以及下文“After I made Italy my permanent home, I discovered how 46.warm-hearted Italians are.”
After some goodbyes, I asked George and his wife to help me 51(load) Tiffy into the plane. I promised to take care of Tiffy and 52(call) them as soon as we got to Kansas City.
The flight was 53 , and Tiffy was a great passenger. The next day, she 54(flew) with Karen and made it back to George in Virginia within a few days.
53. A. unnecessary B. unexpected C. unavoidable D. uneventful
53. 根据下文“and Tiffy was a great passenger”可知,这次飞行一切都平安无事。
I've been motivated—and demotivated—by other folks' achievements all my life.
When I was a teenager, a neighborhood friend 41.won a marathon race. Feeling motivated, I started running 42 , but then two things happened.
42. A. regularly B. silently C. proudly D. recently
On Oct. 11, hundreds of runners competed in a cross-country race in Minnesota. Melanie Bailey should have 41(finished) the course earlier than she did. Her 42(delay) came because she was carrying a 43 across the finish line.
43. A. judge B. volunteer C. classmate D. competitor
A. judge裁判;B. volunteer志愿者;C. classmate同学;D. competitor参赛者。根据第一段的“hundreds of runners competed in a cross-country race”可知,她是背着一名参赛者冲过终点线。
49(Encouraged), I posted more. My daily posts and the 50(visits) I received became a precious ray of light in the chaos of my house. Each exchange provided a chance to 51 the landfill and to please another person I might not otherwise have 52(encountered) .
51. A. remove B. spare C. find D. check
A. remove 移除;B. spare 省得;免去;C. find 发现;D. check 检查。
During my first visit to Italy, I 42(struggled) to ask for directions or order in a restaurant. But every time I tried to 43 a sentence of Italian together, the locals smiled at me and 44(praised) my language skills.
43. A. string B. hang C. mix D. match
string n. 故选A项。
例:fail to do sth.表示“没做成某事”,而表达“成功做某事”时则不能用succeed to do sth.,要用succeed in doing sth.。
但在“He stopped his car to wait at the red light.”中用at而不用for。
I guess our different childhood background is what makes my grandmother such an amazing person to 59(talk) to:her stories always make my history textbooks 60 .
60. A. come true B. come round C. come out D. come alive

43. A. string B. hang C. mix D. match
例:fail to do sth.表示“没做成某事”,而表达“成功做某事”时则不能用succeed to do sth.,要用succeed in doing sth.。
但在“He stopped his car to wait at the red light.”中用at而不用for。
