Top Power Banks for Charging on the Go
To find you the best power banks for your electrical emergencies, I put 4 top models through their paces.
◆Belkin BoostCharge Pro
If you need a highly capable power bank that can recharge your laptop and smartphone, this model would be a fine choice.
Why we love it: Charging didn’t slow down much when I plugged in two devices at once.
It’s a shame that... the on-screen metrics are slightly less detailed than those on some competing brands.
Capacity: 20,000mAh, £59.99 at Amazon.
◆Anker Nano
Quick and small enough to carry in a trouser pocket, it is ideal for lightly recharging a smartphone.
Why we love it: It’s minimalistic. I’m a big fan of its fold-out USB-C connector, which can be directly plugged into your phone.
It’s a shame that... you’d need something more powerful to charge your laptop.
Capacity: 5,000mAh, £29.84 at Amazon.
◆Belkin BoostCharge
It’s hard to believe this is a cheap option. It speedily charges smartphones and other lower-powered devices.
Why we love it: Neat and impressively light, this is one of those rare power banks that you can carry in a jacket pocket.
It’s a shame that... charging two devices at once reduces the maximum total output from 20W to 15W.
Capacity: 10,000mAh, £9.99 at Amazon.
◆RAVPower Charger
A reliable and outstanding option for those who need a balance between power and portability.
Why we love it: The multiple charging ports allow you to charge different devices simultaneously. Its fast-charging technology ensures that your devices get a quick boost.
It’s a shame that… it lacks the advanced on-screen metrics that some high-end power banks offer.
Capacity: 15,000mAh, £49.99 at Amazon.
21.What is a feature of Anker Nano ?
A.Its large capacity. B.Its direct-charging connector.
C.Its on-screen-display design. D.Its fast-charging technology.

For over twenty years, fried chicken had been my absolute favorite food. I would have it at least three times a week, whether it was from a fast- food joint, a local diner, or even homemade. I planned my outings around places that served delicious fried chicken. There were times when I tried to cut back on it, especially when I started to gain some weight, but I always ended up giving in to my cravings within a few days.
This year, a series of events changed my relationship with fried chicken forever. I began experiencing frequent stomachaches and indigestion. Doctors couldn’t directly link these problems to fried chicken, but I noticed that every time I ate it, my discomfort worsened. Additionally, I started to realize that the once- mouthwatering smell and taste now left a heavy, greasy feeling in my mouth that I couldn’t ignore. One evening, after finishing a large bucket of fried chicken, I felt so sick that I couldn’t sleep well all night. That was the turning point. I decided that enough was enough, after two decades of indulgence.
Why was it so hard to let go before? Is there really something addictive in fried chicken? While there’s no official “fried chicken addiction” listed in medical books, experts point out factors that could contribute to its allure. Dr. Johnson from a nutrition research center mentions two main elements: the high-fat content and the combination of spices. The high-fat content triggers the release of endorphins in the brain, making us feel good, while the unique blend of spices stimulates our taste buds, making us want more.
Now, I’m on Day 35 of my “fried-chicken-free” journey. The first week was tough. I had strong cravings and even felt a bit down at times, almost like going through a mild withdrawal. But as the days passed, I started to feel better. My stomach problems became less frequent, and I even noticed that I had more energy. I’m really proud of myself for breaking this long-standing habit. If I can overcome my love for fried chicken, I believe I can overcome any other challenging habit in my life.

I’ve written at length about how playful writing exercises gave me my career (as an internationally bestselling and award-winning novelist published in over thirty languages). Given how necessary this practice has been to my successes — I know it’s worth it to make time to play.
There are a lot of reasons why, but the most important one is also the hardest to explain, because it has to do with the mystery of creativity itself. Where do ideas come from or, having come, how do they grow? What is imagination, and how do we level up, get to the good stuff deep within ourselves? How do we get to that place beyond worry and plot and analysis, where story lives and breathes and characters come to life and language blooms and sparks?
Me, I don’t get there easily. I’ve always struggled with perfectionism. For years, “writing” for me meant polishing sentences to a high gloss while daydreaming about the books I would one day write. There was a huge disconnect between my fantasy future career and my actual habits and practice. But eventually the absurdity of that disconnect became so glaring that I had to either get past it or give up the dream, and that’s when I started developing strategies to actually write not just high-gloss sentences, but stories, even novels.
I got there by going around my perfectionism, and the best way I know to do that is: yeah, playful writing exercises. They allow me to fall into a much deeper well of creativity, even sometimes into that mysterious place where it feels like it’s not coming “from” me but “through” me. It honestly feels like magic.
To make a long explanation short: A practice of playful, non-goal-oriented writing exercise can loosen you up and even train your brain to access a flow state, with huge benefits that are necessary both for your spirit and your work.
28.Why does the author ask the questions in Paragraph 2?
A.To turn to readers for answers. B.To criticize traditional writing.
C.To stress the complexity of creativity. D.To show off his talents and achievements.
29.What problem did the author face in the early writing practice?

C.Feeling confused about the future career. D.Pressure from international publishers.
30.How does the author describe the feeling of accessing deep creativity?
A.A magical outcome. B.A well-designed plan.
C.A tough experience. D.An easy practice process.
31.What is the best title for the text?
A.Writing for best-sellers B.Creating Successful Novels
C.Perfectionism in Writing D.Unlocking Creativity through Play
D
Artificial intelligence (AI) models have long surpassed (超过) just creating text responses and images. Now, with only one sentence, OpenAI’s latest text-to-video model, Sora, can turn your words into video with good visual quality while faithfully following your content instructions.
Sora is said to outperform many other existing models with similar functions. The AI model can create videos at suitable aspect ratios (屏幕高宽比) for different devices, such as both widescreen videos and vertical (竖的) videos that we usually see on social media. This allows it to offer diverse products. It also lets users quickly test out content in lower quality before making the high-quality version, which helps speed up output.
Aside from this, its ability to present videos in a realistic and smooth manner is astonishing. Sora can create detailed scenes with several characters, specific types of motion, and accurate subject and background details while generating multiple shots within a single video. Beyond the user’s requests, it also understands how these elements exist in the real world. For example, reflections in the water change as a woman walks by a lake.
Sora’s amazing performance wouldn’t be possible without its helpful assistant, ChatGPT, which transforms simple sentences into detailed descriptions, improving the accuracy of output according to the user’s prompts (提示语).
However, the current model isn’t perfect. It may have trouble accurately showing how things move in a complicated scene and might not get how one action leads to another. For example, if someone eats part of a cookie in a Sora-made video, the cookie might not look like it’s been bitten into. The model might mix up directions like left and right, and find it hard to describe events in the right order. One possible reason is that Sora learns each basic unit of a video, known as a spacetime patch (时空补丁), independently, according to an online post by the Institute of Physics, the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
As of February, Sora is still in the testing stage of development. OpenAI is now inviting cybersecurity professionals to make random attacks on Sora’s system, aiming to test the model’s possible weaknesses and risks. Sora has also been open to some visual artists, designers and filmmakers. Their feedback will assist OpenAI in enhancing the model to better serve creative professionals.
32.What is the main focus of paragraphs 2-3?
A.Sora’s evolution. B.Sora’s diversity.
C.Sora’s strengths. D.Sora’s techniques.
33.How does ChatGPT contribute to Sora’s capabilities?
A.By specifying user input. B.By providing verbal feedback.
C.By analyzing sample videos. D.By enhancing video quality.
34.Why does the author provide the example in paragraph 5?
A.To highlight Sora’s potential safety risks.
B.To illustrate Sora’s existing limitations.
C.To showcase Sora’s flawless performance.
D.To explain the concept of a spacetime patch.
35.What can we know about Sora up to now?
A.It has been made available to various industries.
B.Its commercial release has been called off.
C.It has exposed alarming security issues.
D.It is undergoing testing and improvement.

Pablo Picasso’s “Woman Sitting Near a Window (Marie-Therese)” sold for $103.4 million at Christie’s in New York, the auction house said. 56 painting, completed in 1932, was sold after 19 minutes of bidding for $90 million, 57 rose to $103.4 million when fees and commissions were added, Christie’s said. Christie’s had estimated the painting would sell for $55 million.
The sale confirms the vitality of the art market despite the COVID-19 pandemic — but also the special status of Picasso, who was born in 1881 and died in 1973. “The 58 (general) good performance of Thursday’s auctions, totaling $481 million, signals a real return to normal and also a message that the art market is really back on track,” said Bonnie Brennan, president of Christie’s America. The painting, 59 (show) Picasso’s muse, Marie-Therese Walter, was acquired only eight years ago at a London sale for 28.6 million pounds, 60 (little) than half the price 61 (offer) on Thursday.
Five works 62 the Spanish painter have now crossed the 63 (symbol) threshold of $100 million. Even before this sale, he was already alone at the top of this very exclusive club with four paintings, including “Women of Algiers”, which held the record for a Picasso, at $179.4 million in 2015. This is the first time in two years that a work 64 (break) the $100 million mark since an 1890 Claude Monet “Meules” painting reached $110.7 million at Sotheby’s, also in New York. On Tuesday, the painting “In This Case” by an American painter sold for $93.1 million at Christie’s in the first of the major spring sales, one of the two most important 65 (event) in the auction world.

One day, during a lively school class, Mrs. Thompson asked everyone about their dream jobs. The classroom suddenly got filled with eager voices as classmates enthusiastically shared their dreams. “I want to be a college professor,” said Sarah confidently. “I dream of becoming a basketball player,” exclaimed Mike with light in his eye. The air was filled with dreams of doctors, nurses, bank accountants, and various professions.
When Mrs. Thompson turned her attention to me, inquiring about my future career, I hesitated. “I don’t know yet,” I admitted. Then she asked if I wished to follow in my dad’s footsteps. “No,” I responded firmly.
My dad is a distinguished doctor with a demanding schedule, who often finds himself engaged in the responsibilities of his job. Thus, he often returns home late in the evening. The limited time we spent together during my upbringing created a noticeable distance in our relationship. I had such a lot to complain about his job and thus being a doctor would be the last option I would take.
After hearing my answer, Mrs. Thompson didn’t make any comment. Instead, she advised me to think more about that.
A turning point came when our school decided to stage a New Year’s play. It was the grandest event of the year, and we had been preparing for it for a long time. Preparing for our roles, I needed to buy costume. Unfortunately, my mom had to travel to another city for work, so it fell upon my dad to accompany me. Reluctantly (不情愿地), Iagreed, realizing there was no other option.
In the mall, it became evident that my dad was clueless about the items on the shopping list. Despite Mom providing a detailed list, we wandered through different floors, in and out between different shops before finally getting everything we needed. And I was getting more and more uncomfortable.
Suddenly, a chaos drew our attention. A crowd had gathered, and someone was shouting for help. It turned out that an elderly customer had a fall, and onlookers were at a loss on how to assist.
注意:
1.续写的词数应为150左右;

Let's guess that bills will be about one hundred forty pounds each in the house share. How much is that . altogether? Goss, I can't work IT out. I think the flat is cheaper, but the house is in a nicer area. You just need to figure out where you'd feel happy and and what you can afford. I know I don't want to regret IT either way, I still don't know what to do. Printing with friends sounds fun, but moving in with my cousin feels more stable. Do you want more independence or comfort? Oh, that's definitely mine. I didn't even realize IT was missing. You were sitting by the window, right? I noticed the name as the train doors were closing, so I jumped off to catch you. I must have dropped IT when I took my travel card out. You have to be more careful. Yeah, honestly, thank you. I've been so busy this morning rushing between meetings, I wouldn't have noticed until lunchtime. No worries. I've lost things on a bus before. IT was really a horrible feeling. You've saved me a lot of trouble. Let me treat you to a coffee. That's kind, but I have to hurry for a connection. Just happy I caught you. Well, thank you really. If you told me a year ago that i'd be jumping out of a plane, i'd have laughed. I hated heights. It's not the kind of thing I enjoy doing with friends. But something changed after my granddad passed away from alzheimer's. I wanted to do something meaningful that could help others affected by the same disease. So I signed up for a charity skydive. I've never even done a big sale before. We watched the safety video, and we jumped from four thousand meters. The free fall lasted for one minute, and we dropped at two hundred kilometers for hour. I worked out that meant I fell roughly three thousand, three hundred meters before the parish opened. IT was peaceful. You'd expect panic. But instead I felt calm. Everything looked so small. And yet I felt part of something huge, the great part. We raised eight thousand, four hundred fifty two pounds, the highest amount anyone in our area has ever raised for all heim's, but even Better than the total was hearing people talk about their experience with this illness. So many had been through the same as my granddad. I still don't love heights, so i've not overcome that fear, but i've learned that sometimes doing something scary opens doors and hearts.
22.Which power bank offers the best value for money?

C.Belkin BoostCharge. D.RAVPower Charger.
23.Where is the text probably from?
A.A product review. B.A research paper.
C.A fashion magazine. D.A current affairs journal.

根据Anker Nano的介绍“Why we love it: It’s minimalistic. I’m a big fan of its fold-out USB-C connector, which can be directly plugged into your phone.(我们喜欢它的原因:它简约实用。我非常喜欢它的折叠式USB-C接口,可以直接插入手机)”可知,其特色是直接充电的连接器。故选B项。
22.推理判断题。根据Belkin BoostCharge中“Capacity:10,000mAh, £9.99 at Amazon.(容量:10000mAh,亚马逊售价9.99英镑)”以及其它三款产品内容可知,Belkin BoostCharge容量为10,000mAh,价格仅 £9.99,是四款中价格最低的。结合“speedily charges smartphones(快速为智能手机充电)”可知它能快速充电。
故选A项。

24.What can be inferred about the author from the first paragraph?
A.Fried chicken was only a casual part of the author’s diet.
B.The author never worried about the health risks of eating fried chicken.
C.The author had a deep and long-lasting love for fried chicken.
D.The author successfully reduced the intake of fried chicken several times.
25.What led the author to give up fried chicken?
A.A doctor’s strict order.
B.Health problems and an unpleasant feeling after eating.
C.A newfound dislike for the smell of chicken.
D.A friend’s advice on a healthier diet.
26.What does the underlined word “allure” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A.harm B.cost C.waste D.attraction
27.How does the author feel about giving up fried chicken?
A.Regretful B.Confused C.Satisfied D.Uncertain.
根据第一段中的“For over twenty years, fried chicken had been my absolute favorite food. I would have it at least three times a week, whether it was from a fast- food joint, a local diner, or even homemade. I planned my outings around places that served delicious fried chicken. There were times when I tried to cut back on it, especially when I started to gain some weight, but I always ended up giving in to my cravings within a few days.
根据第二段中的“I began experiencing frequent stomachaches and indigestion.
根据第三段中的“Why was it so hard to let go before? Is there really something addictive in fried chicken? While there’s no official “fried chicken addiction” listed in medical books, experts point out factors that could contribute to its allure.(为什么以前那么难戒掉呢?炸鸡里真的有什么让人上瘾的东西吗?虽然医学书籍中没有正式的“炸鸡瘾”这一说法,但专家指出了可能使其具有allure的因素。)”可知,专家指出炸鸡中某些因素会导致人们对其产生吸引力,所以“allure”意思是“吸引力”,与“attraction”意思相近“allure”在这里指的是炸鸡的吸引力。故选D项。
27.推理判断题。根据最后一段中的“I’m really proud of myself for breaking this long- standing habit. If I can overcome my love for fried chicken, I believe I can overcome any other challenging habit in my life.(我为自己打破了这个长期的习惯而感到自豪。如果我能克服对炸鸡的喜爱,我相信我能克服生活中任何其他具有挑战性的习惯。)”可知,作者对自己放弃炸鸡感到满意。故选C项。
C
A.Focusing too much on perfecting sentences. B.Lack of creative ideas and writing skills.
C.Feeling confused about the future career. D.Pressure from international publishers.
30.How does the author describe the feeling of accessing deep creativity?
A.A magical outcome. B.A well-designed plan.
C.A tough experience. D.An easy practice process.
31.What is the best title for the text?
A.Writing for best-sellers B.Creating Successful Novels
C.Perfectionism in Writing D.Unlocking Creativity through Play
【答案】28.C 29.A 30.A 31.D

How do we get to that place beyond worry and plot and analysis, where story lives and breathes and characters come to life and language blooms and sparks?(造成这种情况的原因有很多,但其中最重要的原因也是最难解释的,因为它与创造力本身的神秘性有关。

【答案】32.C 33.A 34.B 35.D
根据文章第二段“Sora is said to outperform many other existing models with similar functions .(据说,Sora的表现优于许多其他现有同类功能的模型。)”以及第三段“Aside from this, its ability to present videos in a realistic and smooth manner is astonishing. (除此之外,它以真实流畅的方式呈现视频的能力也令人惊叹。)”以及这两段的主要内容可知,这两段都是围绕Sora的优点展开。故选C。
33.细节理解题。根据文章第四段“Sora’s amazing performance wouldn’t be possible without its helpful assistant, ChatGPT, which transforms simple sentences into detailed descriptions, improving the accuracy of output according to the user’s prompts (提示语). (Sora的出色表现离不开其得力助手ChatGPT的支持,ChatGPT能将简单的句子转化为详细的描述,根据用户的提示语提高输出的准确性。)”可知,ChatGPT的作用是将用户的简单输入具体化、详细化,从而帮助Sora更精准地生成内容,即明确用户输入。故选A。
根据文章第五段内容“However, the current model isn’t perfect. It may have trouble accurately showing how things move in a complicated scene and might not get how one action leads to another. For example, if someone eats part of a cookie in a Sora-made video, the cookie might not look like it’s been bitten into. (然而,当前这个模型并非完美无缺。它在准确呈现复杂场景中物体的运动方式时可能存在困难,也可能无法理解一个动作如何引发另一个动作。比如,在 Sora生成的视频中,如果有人咬了一口饼干,饼干可能看起来并没有被咬过的痕迹。)”可知,这个例子是为了具体说明前文提到的Sora的不足,即它在呈现动作连贯性和因果关系上的缺陷,也就是其现有的局限性。故选B。
35.推理判断题。根据文章最后一段“As of February, Sora is still in the testing stage of development. (截至2月,Sora仍处于开发测试阶段。OpenAI目前正邀请网络安全专家对Sora系统进行随机攻击,旨在测试该模型可能存在的弱点和风险。Sora也向一些视觉艺术家、设计师和电影制作人开放,他们的反馈将帮助OpenAI改进模型,使其能更好地为创意从业者服务。)”可知,Sora目前正在接受测试(网络安全测试、收集专业人士反馈)并持续改进。故选D。

36.根据上文“In a world where screens often blur ( 模糊 ) the line between reality and representation, taking care of your emotional well-being is key to avoiding destructive thoughts and unnecessary comparisons.(在一个屏幕经常模糊现实和表现之间界限的世界里,照顾好你的情绪健康是避免破坏性想法和不必要比较的关键。)”
37.根据上文的句子“Remember that it’s okay to edit your photos or videos a bit if it makes you feel more confident. Avoid drastically changing your appearance using artificial intelligence tools.(记住,如果能让你感觉更自信,可以稍微编辑一下你的照片或视频。避免使用人工智能工具大幅改变你的外表。)”可知,作者建议不要大幅编辑自己的照片,下文应该接着说这样做的好处,所以E项“Honest representation contributes to a more positive body image for you(诚实的展示有助于给你一个更积极的身体形象)”填入空格处,符合语境。且E项与下文的句子“Therefore, try to highlight your natural beauty.(因此,尽量突出你的自然美。)”
根据下文的内容“Don’t fall into the trap of comparing yourself to unrealistic standards when editing your images. Comparing yourself to others can negatively affect your confidence and emotional well-being. Give importance to your personal accomplishments and celebrate your authenticity rather than seeking recognition through outward appearance.(在编辑图像时,不要陷入将自己与不切实际的标准进行比较的陷阱。把自己和别人比较会对你的自信和情绪健康产生负面影响。重视你的个人成就,庆祝你的真实,而不是通过外表寻求认可。)”可知,此处作者主要是建议不要把自己和别人比较,不要通过外表寻求认可。所以,A项“Avoid social comparisons(避免社会比较)”填入空格处,可以作为该部分的主题句,符合语境。故选A项。
39.根据空格后的句子“But you shouldn’t depend on them.(但是你不应该依赖它们。)”
40.根据空格后的例子“A study in Applied Psychology suggested that people who are exposed to negative news and images on the Internet are at an increased risk of depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder.(《应用心理学》上的一项研究表明,在互联网上接触负面新闻和图片的人患抑郁症、焦虑症和创伤后应激障碍的风险更高。)” 所以G项“On the whole, never underestimate the power of the things you post on social media(总的来说,永远不要低估你在社交媒体上发布的东西的力量)”填入空格处,符合语境。故选G项。

【答案】one possible version
My dad rushed forward. And I followed suit. “Stay calm, everyone. We need to act quickly,” after he figured out what was going on, he gestured for everyone to remain calm and call emergency services. He started performing first aid, which immediately put those around him at ease. Soon, an ambulance arrived. Thanks to my dad’s timely intervention, the patient regained consciousness, gaining crucial time for further treatment. Then the patient was rushed to the hospital.
Witnessing the scene there, I suddenly realized the value of my dad’s work. On the way back home, I thanked Dad, not only for accompanying me to the shopping mall, but also for saving the customer and helping me understand the worth of adult professions. A few days after the play, Mrs. Thompson asked me if I had changed my mind. I replied proudly with a definite “yes,” The journey through the mall had totally reshaped my perspective on the significance of every kind of work and taught me that I should never judge the value of people’s work at will.
