Lanzhou, 9 August 2017. A group of researchers from China and other countries were working together to help increase knowledge and appreciation (欣赏) of China’s ancient cultural heritage (遗产). By 2025, the team used 3D cameras to record most cave paintings. Now 20 million people worldwide can see them through online tours. ①In the cave, I saw gold coins in a corner. They were Flint’s treasure! We had come so far to find this. Already it had cost the lives of seventeen men from the Hispaniola. And how many others? How many ships had gone to the bottom of the sea? How many brave men had been killed for this? Perhaps no man alive could tell, and I had never felt happier to leave the island behind.
②Next morning, we moved all the gold to the beach. Then we took it by boat to the Hispaniola. It was a big job for so small a number of men.
③Then at last, one sunny morning, we sailed out of North Inlet and towards the nearest port (港口) in Spanish America. Before afternoon, Treasure Island had gone, leaving only waves in the sea as if it had never been there.
④The sun was going down when we sailed into the port, and the doctor and Mr. Trelawney took me to the beach. When we came back, Ben Gunn was waiting for us.
⑤“Silver has gone,” he told us, “but not empty-handed. He’s taken one of the bags of coins, perhaps worth three or four hundred guineas.”
⑥I think we were all pleased to lose the man at so small a price.
⑦We all took a large piece of the treasure. Captain Smollett no longer goes to sea. Gray saved his money and now is a half-owner and captain of a fine ship. Ben Gunn got a thousand pounds which he spent or lost in three weeks, then he came begging and was given a job as a gatekeeper.
⑧Of Silver, we have heard no more. That scary sea man with one leg has gone out of my life. I will never return to Treasure Island, but in my worst dreams I still hear the sharp, high cries of Captain Flint the parrot, “Pieces of eight! Pieces of eight!”
—— Adapted from Treasure Island

A. To build a new home. B. To find Flint’s Treasure.
C. To save the brave men. D. To visit the cave for fun.

B. All the milk is gone. We need to buy some more.
C. I don’t like it because the color has gone out of fashion.
D. The music was gone suddenly, then it became very quiet.
56. What can you infer from the passage?
A. Not everyone spent the treasure wisely. B. Many people died on the way to the Island.
C. Silver was kind and they didn’t want him to leave. D. Ben Gunn will go back to the island for more gold.
57. How would the main character “I” describe Treasure Island?
A. A place to forget all problems. B. A safe place to find treasure.
C. A place to make true friends. D. A scary and dangerous place.

①Look! Up in the sky! Not a bird…or a plane… it’s an eVTOL! It’s also known as an air taxi. It started the first journey from Shenzhen to Zhuhai, completing the 55-kilometer trip in about 20 minutes. This marks an important development of this exciting new form of transport.
②Air taxis use high technology to take off and land like a helicopter (直升机). So they don’t need long runways. Instead of using traditional engines (引擎), air taxis use electric motors (电动机).
③Air taxis can fly without a pilot. These air taxis have several propellers to help them stay safe in the sky. They also use large batteries (电池) to let them fly far and fast.
④Air taxis can make people’s travelling faster and safer.
⑤They can help improve traffic jams (交通拥堵), with their direct point-to-point travel. They can save time for people. The cost of taking an air taxi may be more expensive than ground transport, but the travel can be up to five times faster.
⑥With the help of the computers, the air taxis can fly safely in the sky. That is to say, the computers can plan the flight of every air taxi in advance (提前), so that they won’t have any accidents in the sky.
⑦The air taxi is also a better choice for cities. As an eco-friendly choice, it produces fewer emissions (排放) than traditional cars, improving air quality.
⑧The air taxi has already been used in the Paris Olympics. Some people think this is a transport that will become widely used. Many companies and researchers are developing this transport and they believe air taxis will have a huge market in the coming years.
58. Where did the air taxi start its first journey?
A. In Shenzhen. B. In Zhuhai. C. In Guangzhou. D. In Beijing.

Usually, when we talk about reading, we think of using our eyes to see letters written in ink on paper. However, this is not always true. For example, blind people cannot see, but they can still read books.
The man who introduced blind people to reading was Louis Braille. Braille lost his eyesight at the age of three. When he was ten, he went to a school for the blind in Paris. On those days, books for blind people used paper pressed against metal wire (金属线) to form letters. Since the metal wire was heavy, each book weighed as much as 100 pounds. Indeed, the school library only had fourteen such books in it.
In 1821, a soldier (士兵) visited the school and showed the students a system (系统) for passing messages at night. His system used paper with small and raised dots that could be felt with the fingers. Each letter of the alphabet was symbolized by a different pattern which consisted (组成) of twelve dots. The soldiers would pull their fingers over the raised dots to read the message.
While the students found the soldier’s idea interesting, the system was too difficult to be of practical use. However, young Louis Braille took the idea and worked on it. At the age of fifteen, he created a system with patterns of six raised dots symbolizing each letter. “Braille”, the system for reading used today by blind people around the world, was thus born.
The blind can easily recognize (辨别) Braille with their fingers. They can also easily write in Braille with a special typewriter. Today, it is the most common system used by blind people for reading and writing, and nearly every language, including Chinese, has its own version (版本) of Braille for its people to use.

First, your body doesn’t want to heat up, so it has to use lots of energy to cool itself down and remain its normal temperature of 37°C. If you feel too tired in the sun, you should take a break and cool down.
The second reason is short of water. When you stay in the sun for long, you will sweat (出汗) a lot, and your body will lose much water. As a result, your blood becomes thicker, which makes it harder for your heart to send blood. And it means less O₂ will be sent to your body. If your body doesn’t have much O₂ inside, you will feel even more tired.
Another reason is sunburn (晒伤), which is your skin’s reaction to the UV (紫外线) in sunlight. As a form of protection, your skin turns red, but this is also tiring for your body.
Warming rays are good for you, but tiredness is your body’s way of telling you that it has enough sunlight in the day. So you should have a good rest.
Do you know the sun very well?

When I was a little girl, I never dared to ask strangers the way because I was afraid that they knew my secret. Although I am no longer too shy to ask people for directions now, I try not to give wrong information to other people. If anyone ever asks me the way somewhere, I would say, “Sorry, I am a stranger here.”
Once on my way to work, I was stopped by a man. He asked me if I could tell him the way to the Friendship Building. I gave him my usual answer. As I walked on only a few steps, I realized that he had asked the way to my workplace. I had no time to look for him because I had to meet someone at my office. I didn’t want to keep him waiting. When I just got to my office, my workmate brought a man in. The man was the one who had asked me for directions. How embarrassed I was! How surprised he was when we began to have a conversation.

阅读下文并回答问题。

Without the sun, no living things can live on the Earth, including humans. The sun is important. It makes plants grow and produce food. It can also help your body get vitamin D, which makes you stronger. However, after spending long hours in the sun, you may feel tired. Why does the sun make you feel tired?
