Many people like to learn English from Hollywood movies. Yes, you can see some friends who have watched thousands of Hollywood movies but they cannot speak a word of English! Right, the thing is that you have to have a learning purpose while watching them.
These steps may trouble you, but if you want to learn English well, you’d better follow them. Otherwise, you may waste your time and effort without getting anything. There are three easy steps to follow.
● Watch these movies with the subtitles (字幕) on for the first time. Your eyes and ears should work together at this stage. Try to understand the main idea of the movie.
● Watch it again, still with the subtitle on, but now try your best not to use your eyes on the subtitles. Listen as much as possible and look at the subtitles only when you really do not understand. Pay less attention to details (细节) in the beginning and slowly increase the amount of listening.
● Watch again without subtitles. It sounds hard but believe me, after enough practice at the first two steps, you will find it much easier to watch the movie in only English.
You may need to spend some time doing well in the first two steps. Do not go to the last step too early because it can greatly make you upset. However, if you reach it when you are ready, you may find that English is becoming a piece of cake for you.

As a language learner, you are not alone. About 1.2 billion people are learning a foreign language. However, not all of them enjoy success. We talked to hundreds of successful language learners. They shared some of their habits (习惯) with us.
One key to long-term success is working towards the goal all the time. Most successful language learners make sure they spend a few minutes practicing every day. Some language learners practice their language only in class. In the long run, they improved less than those who practice daily.
The second habit of successful language learners is that they don’t study too much and too long at a time. Instead, they study for a short period each time. And then after a break, they continue. Over a longer time, they make progress.
Some language learners always want to learn as much new material (材料) as they can. But review (复习) also plays an important role in learning. Do you still remember all the English words and expressions you learned last year? Successful language learners review the old material. Going over lessons turns the short-term memory (记忆) into the long-term one.
Are you having a hard time improving your English? Then you may try to develop these three habits. Don’t worry if it takes time. Learning a second language well should take time!
1.How many people are learning a foreign language according to the passage?
2.Why do successful learners review the old material?
3.Do successful language learners learn for a long time each time?
4.How can a language learner improve? (List one example)
5.What do you think of the three habits? What other good habits of learning English do you have? (Write 30 words or more.)
1.About 1.2 billion people are learning a foreign language. 2.Because going over lessons turns the short-term memory into the long-term one. 3.No, they don’t. 4.By working towards the goal all the time./By not studying too much or too long at a time./By reviewing the old material. 5.I think the three habits are essential for language learning as they promote consistency, prevent burnout, and solidify knowledge. Additionally, I find that talking with native speakers and using language apps also help my learning. (言之有理即可)

Doing well in school is about more than just spending long hours with your books—it’s about studying in the right way. Many students work hard but don’t always get the r 1 they want because they depend on poor ways like last-minute cramming (死记硬背)or passive reading. The good news is that by using smarter and easier study skills, you can i 2 your understanding ability, remember information longer, and reduce stress. Here are some ways to make your study time more productive.
One of the most important habits is active learning. When you study, try e 3 new ideas in your own words, asking yourself questions, or even teaching the topic to a friend. This gets your brain to process information deeply. Then it is easier to remember it later. Another helpful way is taking notes carefully. I 4 of writing down everything your teacher says, focus on key ideas and use ways like the Cornell note-taking system (康奈尔笔记法). It advises students to s 5 the page into three parts: main points, supporting details and a conclusion part. This makes reviewing much easier.
Managing your time wisely is another important skill. You’d better not get started u 6 the night before tests. Study a little each day using the Pomodoro way: study for 25-30 minutes, and then take a 5-minute b 7 to get fresh. This keeps your mind fresh and helps you stay focused.
Practice is also necessary, especially for s 8 like math and science. You cannot just memorize formulas (公式), you should use what you’ve l 9 to solve different problems. Self-testing with flashcards or past exam questions is another great way to check your understanding and make you remember things better.
Finally, don’t forget that your physical and mental health influence your learning. Getting e 10 sleep, eating well, and staying active all help your brain work at its best. If you’re tired or distracted, even the best study ways won’t work as well.
