“Have a nice day!” may be a pleasant gesture or a meaningless expression. When my friend Marie says “Have a nice day!” with a smile, I know she sincerely cares about what happens to me. I feel loved and secure since another person cares about me and wishes me well.
“Have a nice day. Next!” This version of the expression is spoken by a salesgirl at the supermarket who is rushing me and my groceries out of the door. The words come out in the same tone (腔调) with a fixed procedure. They are spoken at me, not to me. Obviously, the concern for my day and everyone else’s is the management’s attempt to increase business.
The expression is one of those behaviors that help people get along with each other. Sometimes it indicates the end of a meeting. As soon as you hear it, you know the meeting is at an end. Sometimes the expression saves us when we don’t know what to say, “Oh, you just had a tooth out? I’m terribly sorry but have a nice day.”
The expression can be pleasant. If a stranger says “Have a nice day!” to you, you may find it heart-warming because someone you don’t know has tried to be nice to you.
Although the use of the expression is an insincere, meaningless social custom at times, there is nothing wrong with the sentence except that it is a little uninteresting. The salesgirl, the waitress, the teacher, and all the countless others who speak it without thinking may not really care about my day. But in a strange and comfortable way, it’s nice to know they care enough to pretend they care when they really don’t care all that much. While the expression may not often be sincere, it is always spoken. The point is that people say it all the time when they like.
45.How does the author understand Marie’s words?
A.Marie shows her anxiety to the author.
B.Marie really wishes the author a good day.
C.Marie encourages the author to stay happy.
D.Marie really worries about the author’s security.
46.What does the underlined sentence in Paragraph 2 mean?
A.The salesgirl is rude.
B.The salesgirl is bored.
C.The salesgirl cares about me.
D.The salesgirl says the words as a routine.
47.By saying “Have a nice day!”, a stranger may ________.
A.try to be polite to you
B.express respect to you
C.give his blessing to you
D.share his pleasure with you
48.According to the last paragraph, people say “Have a nice day!” ________.
A.sincerely B.as thanks C.as a habit D.encouragingly
49.What is the best title of the passage?
A.Have a Nice Day-a Social Custom
B.Have a Nice Day-a Pleasant Gesture
C.Have a Nice Day-a Heart-warming Greeting
D.Have a Nice Day-a Polite Ending of a Conversation

Development in technology now ties us closer than before. We can call our friends from a thousand kilometers away. We can text. We can talk to each other at the push of a button on WeChat or other social media.
There are, of course, advantages to these modern ways of communicating. However, do we ever think about what we are losing? As someone who likes writing and receiving letters, I often feel sad that so few people now give letter writing a fair chance.
While you might call letter writing old-fashioned, I believe we should all write and send letters more often.
To begin with, there’s lots of love in a handwritten letter. This is why texting or calling doesn’t feel as special as letter writing—it is more hurried. These days, we hope to finish everything as quickly as possible. To save time, we often use short sentences.
Handwritten letters, however, deliver much more warmth because we take the time. Writing letters allows us to express to someone how much we care about him or her in a detailed way. So when we receive a letter, we feel we are loved, remembered and missed. Besides, writing a letter can make us feel happy, too. When we sit down and focus on what we are writing, we make ourselves take a break from the stress (压力) of our lives. Moreover, letters can be kept forever. We can always go back and read them again. By keeping a letter, we keep a part of that person and his relationship with us.
Pick up your pen now! Write to your cousins about your school. Let your friends know how much you miss them. Let’s bring back the art of letter writing!
50.According to the passage, ________ is not the modern way of communicating in the passage.
A.writing letters B.using social media
C.making phone calls D.sending text messages
51.The underlined word “it” in paragraph 4 refers to ________.
A.time saving B.letter writing
C.texting or calling D.using shortened phrases
52.The writer thinks writing letters makes us feel happy because it makes us feel ________.
A.we are saving an old tradition
B.we are keeping a part of ourselves
C.we are loved, remembered and missed
D.we are away from the stress of our lives
53.By writing this article, the writer wants to ________.
A.stop people from using social media
B.ask schools to teach students how to write letters
C.share his experiences of sending and receiving letters
D.encourage people to write and send letters more often

Relationships are important for children and can have a great influence on their development at home and at school. Relationship skills, such as communication, teamwork, and the ability to solve problems are valuable skills. Here are some tips on how you can help your children develop these life skills.
As children grow and develop, the need for communication skills becomes increasingly important. Communication with family members can be especially difficult when kids are young, but taking time to talk about things that make them sad or happy will help build healthy relationships as they get older. Teach children how to use their words rather than act out physically. For example, say sorry if someone feels hurt by something you said or did.
Encourage (鼓励) your children to know what makes them a great teammate and also what they need when working with others. Children who love to have fun and tell jokes may be able to motivate (激励) their friends through a difficult task, but they may need a friend who can stay organized and on task. When kids understand their own skills and what they need from others, they’ll be able to work together with many more people.
Kids may feel like peers (同龄人) who do things differently than them are “bad” which isn’t true. Encourage your children to talk about similarities and differences among their friends. You can describe a time as a child or an adult when you were self-aware enough to stand up for what you wanted instead of giving in to what someone else wanted you to do. More than anything, building good relationship skills with the whole family can mitigate (减轻) the effects of peer pressure. Of course, some peer pressure can be positive when it encourages children to take safety risks that move them out of their comfort zone.
All in all, kids need parents, teachers and other caring adults to help them learn how they can build healthy relationship skills now and for a lifetime.
54.How does the writer explain the way children use their words properly?
A.By telling a story. B.By listing some numbers.
C.By giving an example. D.By comparing two facts.
55.What’s the fourth paragraph mainly about?
A.When your kids might make mistakes.
B.What you can talk about with children.
C.How you can help kids solve peer pressure.
D.Why you should describe your experience.
56.Which of the following shows the structure of the passage?
(①=Paragraph 1②=Paragraph 2.)
A. B.
C. D.
57.What’s the best title for the passage?
A.Relationship skills kids need
B.The importance of relationship skills
C.Tips on how to keep children healthy
D.Useful communication skills for kids

Students these days often have a lot of worries. Sometimes they have problems with their schoolwork, and sometimes with their friends. What can they do about this? Some people believe the 63 (bad) thing is to do nothing. Laura Mills, a teenager from London, agrees. “Problems and worries are normal in life,” says Laura. “But I think talking to someone 64 (real) helps a lot. 65 we talk to someone, we’ll certainly feel worse.”
Laura once lost her wallet, and worried for days. She was afraid to tell her parents about it. She even 66 (walk) three miles to school each day because she didn’t have any money. She just kept 67 (think), “If I tell my parents, they’ll be angry!” In the end, she talked to her parents and they were really 68 (understand). “I will always remember to share my problems in the future!” Laura says.
Robert Hunt advises students about common problems. He feels the same way as Laura. “It is best not to run away 69 our problems. We should always try to solve them.” He thinks the 70 (one) step is to find someone you trust to talk to. This person doesn’t need to be 71 expert like himself. Students often forget that their parents have more experience and are always there 72 (help) them. In English, we say that sharing a problem is like cutting it in half. So you’re halfway to solving a problem just by talking to someone about it!
