I began our conversation with some good news: “I just got a text from my friend Joe—she gave birth to a baby girl last week!” That simple, joyful news brought smiles and led to a warm, long talk. We both messaged later to say how great it had been to see each other, and agreed to meet again soon. As it turns out, there’s science behind this. Researchers at Renmin University in China have found that sharing happy stories doesn’t just make you feel good—it also makes others feel happy. Whether it’s finding a lost ring at home or receiving an unexpected gift, these stories can bring joy to listeners too. Happiness expert Dr. Cope believes this kind of “joy sharing” is especially powerful in relationships. As a grandfather, he tries to read stories with exaggerated (夸张的) expressions and funny voices. “The research is clear: if I’m really into it, they’ll catch my joy,” he explains. But many of us hold back. We worry that sharing positive news might be regarded as showing off. The truth is, these small stories matter. They bring us closer, make conversations deeper, and brighten someone’s day. So instead of asking the usual “How was your day?”, try “What was the highlight (亮点) of your day?” This small change invites connection and joy—and gives others permission to share their own good news too. Sharing a bit of happiness isn’t bragging (炫耀). It’s a gift, and one that often gives back even more. 1.How might the writer feel after the café chat? A.Happy and warm. B.Stressed but excited. C.Thankful and proud. D.Afraid but surprised. 2.What might the researchers from China agree with? A.People should share joyful stories. B.Sharing a problem is like cutting it in half. C.People need to brag before others. D.Listening to friends shows real patience. 3.Why does Dr. Cope read stories with funny voices? A.To get the listeners’ attention. B.To test the power of the voices. C.To improve his reading ability. D.To help others feel his happiness. 4.What is the best title for the passage? A.Laugh More, Live Better B.Ask Questions, Get Closer C.Share Joy, Create Warmth D.Tell Stories, Teach Lessons 【答案】1.A 2.A 3.D 4.C 【导语】本文主要讲述了分享快乐的故事能带来温暖和联结,介绍了分享快乐背后的科学依据、专家观点,并建议人们主动分享快乐而非顾虑炫耀。 1. 根据第一段中“That simple, joyful news brought smiles and led to a warm, long talk. We both messaged later to say how great it had been to see each other”可知,咖啡馆的聊天带来了微笑和温暖的长谈,双方都觉得见面很愉快,由此可推断作者聊天后会感到开心且温暖。故选A。 2. 根据第二段中“Researchers at Renmin University in China have found that sharing happy stories doesn’t just make you feel good—it also makes others feel happy”可知,中国的研究人员发现分享快乐的故事不仅能让自己感觉良好,还能让别人开心,由此可推断他们会认同人们应该分享快乐的故事。故选A。 3. 根据第三段中“As a grandfather, he tries to read stories with exaggerated expressions and funny voices. ‘The research is clear: if I’m really into it, they’ll catch my joy,’ he explains”可知,科佩博士用有趣的声音读故事,是因为这样能让听故事的人感受到他的快乐。故选D。 4. C。 On Monday, I stopped my car in front of my daughter Juliet’s middle school. She jumped in the front seat, feeling down. She asked me to help her study for her science test. “Dad, I need to memorize a unit about the Reproductive Cycle of Plants. And I can hardly make it.” “You know memorizing seems like the best way to study, but in fact you can do better in tests if you work on trying to understand the material (材料).” Juliet was open to my advice. It was Monday afternoon and we had two nights to study before the test on Wednesday. I suggested a plan. “Tomorrow night, you are going to teach the material to me. Tonight, read the unit. Prepare to teach.” Asking her to teach me was an unusual idea, but I was determined to do it. Studies show teaching somebody else is a very useful way to learn. Even if you don’t do the teaching, the act of preparing to teach leads to more learning than just trying your best to memorize the material. On Tuesday afternoon, Juliet sat down with her Science book facing me and said, “Okay Dad, let’s study.” I wanted her to teach me. But false starts happened. I couldn’t be too hard on her. So instead, we started with me asking her some simple questions. She knew some but not others. When she didn’t know the answers, I encouraged her to check the book. She started checking things that didn’t make sense. And she was actively seeking to test her understanding. I was happy to see it. She wasn’t memorizing; she was trying to understand things, which was exactly what I had hoped she would do. 1.Why did Juliet feel down? A.Because she failed her science test. B.Because she had trouble memorizing a unit. C.Because she knew nothing about planting. D.Because she couldn’t follow her teacher. 2.In the writer’s opinion, which was the key to the best learning? A.Memorizing B.Testing C.Questioning. D.Understanding 3.What does the underlined word “it” in paragraph 5 refer to? A.making her check the book B.using simple questions to test her C.encouraging her to read the unit D.asking her to teach me the unit 4.How did the father feel when false starts happened? A.Patient. B.Worried. C.Nervous. D.Embarrassed. 5.Which can be the best title for the passage? A.A Hard-working Father B.An Unexpected Test C.Learning from Teaching D.Preparing for Teaching 【答案】1.B 2.D 3.D 4.A 5.C 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。 根据第二段“Dad, I need to memorize a unit about the Reproductive Cycle of Plants. And I can hardly make it.” 根据第三段“You know memorizing seems like the best way to study, but in fact you can do better in tests if you work on trying to understand the material (材料).” 根据第五段第一句“Asking her to teach me was an unusual idea, but I was determined to do it.”可知,让女儿教自己是一个不同寻常的想法,但作者决心这么做,“it”指代的是“asking her to teach me the unit”。故选D。 4. I couldn’t be too hard on her. So instead, we started with me asking her some simple questions.” 故选A。 5. C。 ①Think back to the last time you got high praise from someone else. Praise from friends, colleagues (同事), and loved ones can be really nice to hear. And—for that matter—it can feel good to praise someone else as well. Yet, most people don’t do that as often as they should. ②In one study, pairs of people walking together in a public park were stopped. Most of the pairs knew each other for almost 10 years. One of them was asked to write out three sentences to praise the other person. And the writer predicted (预测) how nice the other person would feel after receiving the praise. Then, the receiver read the praise and rated (评价) how good and how embarrassed (尴尬的) they felt, and how warm the praise was. ③From the study, researchers found that the participants (参与者) in the study underestimated (低估) how good and warm the praise would make the receivers feel. And another finding is that the participants overestimated (高估) how embarrassed the receivers would feel. Besides, they found that the participants who paid attention to the warmth of the praise were more willing to praise others. ④Putting these findings together, people miss a lot of chances to make people feel good, because they don’t give the praise they think of. A big reason why they don’t give praise to others is because they underestimate how good the praise will make the other person feel. ⑤So, if you have a chance to praise someone else in your life, you should probably do it. 1.Which is the right order according to the study in the passage? a. read praise  b. wrote praise  c. predicted praise  d. rated praise A.b-a-c-d B.b-a-d-c C.b-c-a-d D.b-c-d-a 2.Paragraph 3 mainly talks about the ________ of the study. A.background B.findings C.purposes D.methods 3.The structure of the passage is ________. A. B. C. D. 4.The purpose of the passage is mainly to ________. A.advise us to praise others B.explain why to praise others C.tell the importance of praise D.introduce how to praise others 【答案】1.C 2.B 3.B 4.A 【导语】本文介绍了一项关于赞美的研究及其发现,并鼓励人们在生活中多给予他人赞美。 1. 根据“One of them was asked to write out three sentences to praise the other person. And the writer predicted (预测) how nice the other person would feel after receiving the praise. Then, the receiver read the praise and rated (评价) how good and how embarrassed (尴尬的) they felt, and how warm the praise was.” 根据“From the study, researchers found that the participants (参与者) in the study underestimated (低估) how good and warm the praise would make the receivers feel.” 根据“So, if you have a chance to praise someone else in your life, you should probably do it.” Our teacher asked us to do a chick-hatching (雏鸡孵化) subject. He told us that hatching chicks wasn’t easy, and that it had something to do with many things, like the temperature. I got some eggs. To make them not break, I picked them up carefully and then put them in a box. I thought the temperature outside was comfortable enough for the chicks to come out of the eggs. So I took some of the eggs out and used a cloth to keep them warm. But the temperature at night was not high enough. The chicks all didn’t come out of the eggshells. I cried when I saw this. Our teacher said, “We can’t tell how fragile (脆弱的) life is. The chance to live is always important. Don’t give up just because you didn’t do something successfully.” So I did it again. A few days later, two chicks came out to see the world. Seeing the little chicks, I just couldn’t tell how excited I was. I saw them getting older day by day. They always tell me I should do this, and should not do that.” says Zhang Hua, a middle school student in Guangzhou. Do you have the same problem? Why do children think parents are unfriendly? One of the biggest things is that when someone is a parent, he or she likes worrying. They worry about everything about you from the time you were born. They worry about the friends you make, the food you eat, how much sleep you get. All these things are parts of your life. They want you to grow up healthily and happily. It’s easier than you think. Just make sure your parents know what you’re doing. Call them when you have to stay somewhere else late. Take responsibility (责任) for what you have done. Talk about your ideas with them. Most of all, try to think about why your parents do this or do that. They are still practicing being parents and need your help. 1.At the beginning of the passage, the writer uses Zhang Hua’ s words to ______. A.find the answers B.surprise the readers C.show the writer’s idea D.lead to the topic 2.Paragraph 2 mainly talks about______. A.what your school life is like B.how to be kind to parents C.why parents worry about you D.how much you love your parents 3.Which of the following can be put in ______? A.Please think it over. B.Parents always only think about you. C.So what can you do for these problems? A.ask parents for help B.call friends to help you C.tell teachers the truth D.think about it by yourself 5.What’s the passage mainly about? A.Parents’ love. B.Zhang Hua’s family rules. C.How to be good with parents. D.How to take responsibility. 根据“Do you have the same problem? Why do children think parents are unfriendly?” 根据“One of the biggest things is that when someone is a parent, he or she likes worrying…They want you to grow up healthily and happily.” 根据空缺处后文“It’s easier than you think…Talk about your ideas with them.” 根据文章第3段“Just make sure your parents know what you’re doing…Take responsibility…” (So what can you do for these problems?)。故选C。 4. 根据“Take responsibility for what you have done. Talk about your ideas with them.” 故选A。 5. 根据“Talk about your ideas with them”和“try to think about why your parents do this”可推知,主题是“如何与父母相处”(How to be good with parents)。故选C。 As a kid, you didn’t have a say in everything; your parents made decisions about everything from the food you ate in the morning to the clothes you wore at weekends. And it’s a good thing, too--kids need this kind of protection. But finally, kids grow up and become teens (青少年). And part of being a teen is developing your own mind. But as you change and grow into this new person and make your own decisions, your parents have a difficult time to adjusting. In most families, this kind of adjusting can cause a lot of fighting between teens and parents. And problems like what kind of friends you can have or your idea of joining a party can cause bigger fights, because your parents still always want to protect you and keep you safe, no matter how old you are. It can take several years for parents and teens to adjust to their new roles (角色), though. During this time, try your best to communicate with your parents. Sometimes this can feel impossible—like they just don’t see your opinion and never will. But talking and expressing your opinions can help you get more respect (尊重) from your parents. Keep in mind, too, that your parents were teens once and they have experienced what you’re going through. 1.Parents make decisions about everything so that ________. A.they can protect their kids B.they can get on well with kids C.kids can develop their mind D.kids can grow up more quickly 2.The underlined word “adjusting” probably means ________ in Chinese. 3.From the second paragraph we can know kids should try to ________. A.talk with their parents B.make more friends C.keep themselves safe D.respect their parents 4.The purpose of the last paragraph is to ________. A.ask parents to help kids B.show parents’ special experiences C.tell kids to understand parents D.introduce different kinds of parents to us 【答案】1.A 2.D 3.A 4.C 【导语】本文是一篇议论文,它围绕青少年与父母的关系展开讨论,旨在传递观点和建议。 1. 根据第一段中“your parents made decisions about everything from the food you ate in the morning to the clothes you wore at weekends. And it’s a good thing, too--kids need this kind of protection.” 故选A。 2. 根据第二段中“But as you change and grow into this new person and make your own decisions, your parents have a difficult time to adjusting.” 根据第二段中“During the time, try your best to communicate with your parents.” 故选A。 4. 根据最后一段内容“Keep in mind, too, that your parents were teens once and they have experienced what you’re going through.” C。 ①Have you heard of “helicopter (直升机) parents”? If parents pay too much attention to their children, then they are. “Helicopter parents” are always working hard to provide children with every chance (机会) to succeed, from baby steps at age 1, homework at age 8, jobs at age 25 to family problems at age 30,40 or even older. ②Helicopter parenting can develop for a number of reasons. Worries about children’s future success can push parents to take more control over their children’s life. Adults who felt unloved as children may want to give as much love as they can to their own children. And when parents see others doing so, they will also follow. ③Although it develops with the idea of doing good things, yet the result isn’t always satisfying. Mary is taken to five after-school classes each week, but she doesn’t do well in any of them. “I feel like I am just checking off things on the list,” she says. ④Worse still, overparenting can do the exact opposite. A child raised in this way may feel helpless when he has to do things on his own. “________,” an expert said, “and if parents don’t let their children experience failure themselves, the children won’t get them.” ⑤Since helicopter parenting does such great harm, does it mean parents should just back off and let it go? Of course not! “The point is to prepare the kid for the road but not the road for the kid,” another expert said. “Teach them what is right, provide them with good environment and develop their good habits, but you have to let them live their own lives.” 1.Which of the following sentences can be put in ________ in the passage? A.Don’t be a helicopter parent B.It’s a parent’s job to support the children C.Making decisions, solving problems and taking risks are key life skills D.Parents try their best to make sure their children never meet with failure 2.Which of the following is closest in meaning to the underlined word in Paragraph 5? That helps raise his income by up to 60,000 yuan (about $8,890) a year. “The money is shared among our local community. Income is more stable and the work is easier compared to just herding. We can also improve the beauty of our area and our horses,” the father of three kids says. St Helena—an island in the middle of the Atlantic—is where I’ve lived my whole life. Perhaps because of this, I never thought that much about all the island has offered. I failed to see its special beauty, with its volcanic valleys and beautiful, tropical (热带的) center.   Growing up in the island’s St Paul’s district, I’ve always been surrounded by trees and other plants. When I started taking photos, I began to enjoy the beauty of my surroundings and wanted to give something back. I bought a drone (无人机). And I was able to see the island from a totally different perspective It was amazing.   What I love the most is taking top-down pictures of the steep, striking coastline—continually hit by ocean waters. Then you have Diana’s Peak, where the path to its top is often covered with low fog—a pathway to the sky, if you will. My favorite locations to take pictures are somewhere around the island. But if I had to choose one, it would have to be the seaside on the outskirts (郊外) of Jamestown, the capital of the island. Sunsets there are never the same, from the warming colors of the sky to the beautiful Georgian buildings with history spilling from their walls.   No visitor to St Helena will ever be disappointed—from history fans and nature lovers to photographers. There are also young people looking for a fun night out. Take it from me, this beautiful island is worthy of being on your bucket list. For keen hikers, there are endless ways to places like our famous Heart-Shaped Waterfall, and the challenging Sharks Valley. Above all, no matter where you go on St Helena, there’s always a photographic opportunity. Since I started using my drone I go out every day to fly, and to find new locations. A.Laugh More, Live Better B.Ask Questions, Get Closer C.Share Joy, Create Warmth D.Tell Stories, Teach Lessons On Monday, I stopped my car in front of my daughter Juliet’s middle school. A.A Hard-working Father B.An Unexpected Test C.Learning from Teaching D.Preparing for Teaching ①Think back to the last time you got high praise from someone else. A.advise us to praise others B.explain why to praise others C.tell the importance of praise D.introduce how to praise others Our teacher asked us to do a chick-hatching (雏鸡孵化) subject. He told us that hatching chicks wasn’t easy, and that it had something to do with many things, like the temperature. I got some eggs. To make them not break, I picked them up carefully and then put them in a box. I thought the temperature outside was comfortable enough for the chicks to come out of the eggs. B.Parents always only think about you. C.So what can you do for these problems? D.How can you make your parents care about you? 4.According to the writer, if you break the school rules, you should ______. A.ask parents for help B.call friends to help you C.tell teachers the truth D.think about it by yourself 5.What’s the passage mainly about? A.Parents’ love. B.Zhang Hua’s family rules. C.How to be good with parents. D.How to take responsibility. As a kid, you didn’t have a say in everything; your parents made decisions about everything from the food you ate in the morning to the clothes you wore at weekends. A.ask parents to help kids B.show parents’ special experiences C.tell kids to understand parents D.introduce different kinds of parents to us ①Have you heard of “helicopter (直升机) parents”? A.Rome wasn’t built in a day. B.A thousand miles begins with a single step. C.All things are difficult before they are easy. D.Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. 3.Which best shows the structure (结构) of the text? A. B. C. D. 四、M3单元话题热点预测 ①Zhang Fuqing was a former hero who made admirable achievements during the War of Liberation and received China’s highest State honor. Among the different models of airplanes, the J-20 Drone (无人机) took many people’s breath away. The drone is one of the greatest inventions in recent years. A drone is light and portable, which makes it possible to reach high places in a very short time and be put in a backpack easily. Some small drones are widely used for taking photos and putting on light shows. Other larger drones are used to carry things to far places in a smart way. For example, Mei Tuan Takeout uses drones to send food or packages to people’s offices in Shenzhen. The delivery time has been greatly cut down. Drones can be also set to finish tasks for farmers. They can spray pesticide and check whether the crops are growing well at different time of a day. So a farmer can look after land five times larger than that before. Scientists are also using underwater drones to get information on CO2 levels in the ocean. It’s the newest way to study the ocean’s condition and improve its environment. Its beautiful grassland stays among the great Tianshan mountains. There are more than 20 ethnic groups (少数民族) in Zhaosu. They altogether make a colorful cultural picture to draw millions of travelers. In Zhaosu County, the rich horse history and tradition continue to improve ethnic people’s life on the ground. Local herdsman (牧人) Silamya Amanbai, 40, is a member of the Kazakh ethnic group, being famous for its traditional lifestyle—“on the back of horses”. For the past two years, he has been showing the courage and skill of his horse in a surprising horse show in Zhaosu’s wetland park. He rides his horses along the shining waterways. The waterways are fringed (围绕) by green grass. They are all surrounded by grassland with snow-covered mountains being far away. The travel season, from April to October, can draw about 2,000 daily tourists to Zhaosu. That helps raise his income by up to 60,000 yuan (about $8,890) a year. “The money is shared among our local community. Income is more stable and the work is easier compared to just herding. We can also improve the beauty of our area and our horses,” the father of three kids says. About 300 million yuan was used to set up the Tianma tourism and cultural park, which receives about 20,000 visitors a year. Thousands of horses set off from the park to run across Zhaosu’s flower-filled grassland, which has become an important calling card, getting people in front of TVs excited. It proves that herdsmen like Silamya Amanbai, and the “heavenly horses”, are still helping Xinjiang’s ethnic communities survive and develop their valuable traditions and customs. 1.What makes Zhaosu a colorful cultural picture to draw millions of travelers? I used to take what I had in my backyard for granted. St Helena, I’ll forever be thankful for the views and the beauty you offer. I’ll also be thankful for the fact I have all this in my backyard. I’m very lucky indeed. 1.How long has the writer lived in St Helena? A.For two years. B.For many years. C.For all his life. D.For a week. 2.It’s better to take photos with ________. A.a camera B.a drone C.a mobile phone D.a digital camera 3.What is the path to the top of Diana’s Peak like? A.It is often covered with low fog. B.It is often covered with thick fog. C.It is often covered with heavy fog. D.It is often covered with light snow. 4.What does the underlined word “surrounded” mean in Chinese? 5.What can we learn from the passage? A.The writer likes St Helena very much. B.The writer likes St Helena a little. C.The writer never likes St Helena. D.The writer likes other countries better than his homeland.
