Have you ever thought about a single-use bag that shares all the positive properties of a plastic bag but none of the negative ones? This imaginative situation is now a reality.
At 14, Mohiuddin was engaged in various jobs — from logo design to cleaning services — trying to make money. After reading a statement from the government expressing the goal of making India single-use plastic free by 2025, the young man decided to get to work — becoming the founder of Bio Reform.
However, it wasn’t all smooth sailing. The young man had to deal with the pressure of being both a graduate student and an entrepreneur (创业者). His grades started to decline. Thus, in 2022, he actually shut down the factory for a brief period. Later, Mohiuddin persevered and Bio Reform finally got back on track.
But what about the bags? Mohiuddin was looking for a material that could mimic (模拟) the properties that make plastic so popular. Eventually, he found what he was seeking in corn waste, using a biotechnological process to transform its components into biopolymers These biopolymers are then turned into bags that are silky smooth and durable (耐用的). More importantly, they can break down within 180 days.
Bio Reform is now able to make full use of the B2B market to replace more than 6 million plastic bags. And the bags have found their fans in a wide range of industries, from hotels trying to improve their sustainability to organic milk producers and restaurants. The Indian Environmental Protection Association is also preparing to promote the bags nationwide. They have all found Bio Reform bags to be environmentally-friendly and economical choices.
The creation of the Bio Reform bags is a result of Mohiuddin’s hard work and determination. It also goes to show that creating a better world can be the matter of some creative thinking and an entrepreneurial spirit.
24. What motivated Mohiuddin to found Bio Reform?
A. The official plan. B. His desire for wealth.
C. His work experience. D. The competitive job market.
25. Why did Mohiuddin close the factory for a while?
A. To reconsider his dream.
B. To focus on his studies.
C. To conduct market research.
D. To find ways to replace plastic bags.
26. What can we say about Bio Reform?
A. It shows great future.
B. It still has a long way to go.
C. It has set up new branches nationwide.
D. It has received full support from the government.
27. What can we learn from Mohiuddin’s story?
A. Knowledge is power.
B. Actions speak louder than words.
C. The early bird catches the worm.
D. Perseverance and innovation lead to success.

Some years ago, Jared Curhan, an associate professor at MIT Sloan, picked up a copy of The New Yorker and began reading an article about creativity. It took only a few paragraphs before he drew back. The author was describing several new scientific studies arguing that criticism might be beneficial to creativity. “How could that be?” Curhan thought to himself. Since 1948, the process of creative brainstorming has always been closely linked to one rule: do not criticize.
To clear up his doubts, Curhan, along with his colleagues, conducted their experiment. They asked people to brainstorm ideas for a project under carefully planned experimental conditions. About half of the participants were told not to criticize others’ ideas, while the other half were told to feel free to criticize as they listed their ideas.
Moreover, groups were further divided into cooperative and competitive settings. Groups in the cooperative setting were informed that their only responsibility was to come up with ideas, whereas groups in the competitive setting had to not only generate ideas but also highlight one of those ideas as the most promising.
In the cooperative setting, teams that were encouraged to criticize each other performed better than teams that were encouraged to avoid criticism, both in terms of the number of ideas they generated (16% more) and the quality of the ideas (17% more creative). In the competitive setting, the opposite was true; groups that were encouraged to criticize generated 16% fewer ideas and were rated as 23% less creative. Overall, cooperative teams welcoming criticism were the most creative.
Though most environments in which creative problem-solving takes place are neither purely cooperative nor purely competitive, it would be better for facilitators (引导者) of a brainstorming session (会议) to try to influence views. “You might give the parties a reminder like, ‘I just want to repeat that we’re on the same team, and that we all benefit if this project succeeds,” Curhan said. “If the statement is believable, criticism can and should be part of the process to boost creativity. If not, criticism should be banned as it weakens group creativity. Context is crucial for the rules governing brainstorming sessions.”
28. What did Curhan think of the article in The New Yorker?
A. Challenging. B. Inspiring. C. Confusing. D. Interesting.
29. Which condition promoted creativity the most according to Curhan’s experiment?
A. Teams critically analyzing every idea. B. Cooperative teams open to criticism.
C. Competitive teams with more responsibilities. D. Teams coming up with ideas without any criticism.
30. What did Curhan advise facilitators to do in brainstorming?
A. To create a more cooperative situation. B. To divide participants into competitive groups.
C. To let participants criticize each other freely. D. To encourage competition within cooperative groups.
31 What does the text mainly talk about?
A. The key to developing creativity. B. The importance of brainstorming in teamwork.
C. The advantages of cooperation over competition. D. The role of criticism in different group contexts.
D
A major international report says that Australian students think their classrooms are more disruptive (破坏性的) than they were in the past. At the same time, Australian teachers have reported student behavior appears to be getting worse, with students showing less focus and taking part less than before.
The development of disruptive behavior can be influenced by biological, social, environmental, and educational factors. Here are three key reasons why students might show disruptive behavior at school.
Students with poor academic skills are more likely to show disruptive and challenging behavior, and students who show disruptive behavior may be more likely to fall behind academically — this is a vicious circle. This connection has been shown to be strongest between a student’s reading skills and disruptive behavior. This makes sense because as students move through primary school, they need to show increasingly advanced written and spoken language skills to take part and succeed academically in all subjects.
Students are more likely to show disruptive behavior in schools and classrooms where this is accepted. Researchers talk about the “classroom climate”. These are the values, beliefs and standards of behavior that set the behavior within a classroom setting. At school (particularly in high school), peer approval (同龄人的认可) is one of the most important factors that can influence student behavior.
In addition, students model and learn the behaviors they see. Telling students how to behave well won’t work when the adults in the room are stressed, and not in control of their feelings.
While behavior problems are difficult to understand or explain, there are practical things teachers and school leaders can do to reduce disruption. This begins with looking at what can be done to support positive student behavior, rather than focusing on what you can do to reduce disruption.
32. What does the international report mainly show about Australia?
A. Teachers’ concern about students’ academic pressure.
B. Teachers’ difficulty in managing a classroom.
C. Students’ worse academic achievements.
D. Students’ poor classroom performance.
33. What does the underlined part “a vicious circle” in paragraph 3 refer to?
A. An interesting question. B. An unfavorable situation.
C. A unique challenge. D. A special experience.
34. What do paragraphs 4 and 5 stress?
A. The power of role models. B. The necessity of family education.
C. The influence of environmental factors. D. The popularity of the classroom climate.
35. What might the author continue talking about?
A. Ways to encourage students’ positive behavior. B. Reasons behind students’ behavior problems.
C. Impacts of students’ behavior problems. D. Different kinds of student behavior.

My parents do a lot of embarrassing things! Usually, it’s my dad who sings silly songs or tells jokes around my friends. But a few weeks ago, it was my mother who played the embarrassing-parent role.
While my mom and I were shopping, we ran into my teacher, who mentioned the school didn’t have a music teacher to help our class put together a performance for Winter Fair. And, then my mom said, “I know the perfect song and dance. I’ll teach it to the kids!”
Before I could say “Please don’t”, my mom had agreed to come to my class every morning at 9:30 for a week. Oh, and just to be clear, it’s not as if she’s a professional entertainer. My parents run a small grocery store, and the only singing my mom does is in the shower.
“Mom,” I said on our way home, “Are you sure this is such a good idea?” “Of course!” she said. “If we want your school Winter Fair to happen, people need to step up and volunteer.” She laughed, “We will have fun!”
“OK, kids!” my teacher said at 9:28 on Monday. “We’re going to stop silent reading a little early today because a special guest is here to help us with a performance for Winter Fair. Let’s all welcome Arizona’s mother.”
I looked up to discover my mom standing in the front of the room wearing the world’s silliest hat. “I’m super excited to be here with you!” my mom said, “I’m going to teach you a fun little song-and-dance performance I learned a few years ago. Here goes!” Oh please, oh please, I said over and over in my head, let there be a fire drill, or a power failure, or anything to stop my mom from completely embarrassing herself-and me!
But apparently, my mom was not at all concerned about looking silly. She turned on some background music and started singing and dancing away.

A 25. B 26. A 27. D

Later, Mohiuddin persevered and Bio Reform finally got back on track.(因此,在2022年,他确实将工厂短暂关闭了一段时间。 以及最后一段“The creation of the Bio Reform bags is a result of Mohiuddin’s hard work and determination. It also goes to show that creating a better world can be the matter of some creative thinking and an entrepreneurial spirit.(Bio Reform环保袋的诞生,是 Mohiuddin努力与决心的成果。 D“Perseverance and innovation lead to success.(坚持与创新成就成功)”精准概括了其故事的启示。故选D。
C
31. What does the text mainly talk about?
A. The key to developing creativity. B. The importance of brainstorming in teamwork.
C. The advantages of cooperation over competition. D. The role of criticism in different group contexts.
C 29. B 30. A 31.

根据第一段“A major international report says that Australian students think their classrooms are more disruptive (破坏性的) than they were in the past. At the same time, Australian teachers have reported student behavior appears to be getting worse, with students showing less focus and taking part less than before.(一份重要的国际报告指出,澳大利亚学生认为他们的课堂如今比过去更加混乱无序。与此同时,澳大利亚教师也反映学生的行为似乎正在变得更糟,学生们注意力不集中,参与度也低于以往)”可知,这份国际报告主要反映了澳大利亚学生在课堂上的表现不佳。故选D。
【33题详解】
词句猜测题。根据划线词上文“Students with poor academic skills are more likely to show disruptive and challenging behavior, and students who show disruptive behavior may be more likely to fall behind academically(学业能力较差的学生更有可能出现扰乱课堂秩序和具有挑战性的行为,而表现出扰乱行为的学生可能更易在学业上落后)”可知,前文明确解释:“学术能力弱→破坏行为→学业更落后→更多破坏行为”,这是一种“负面、不利且不断恶化的情况”。
根据第四段“Students are more likely to show disruptive behavior in schools and classrooms where this is accepted. Researchers talk about the “classroom climate”. These are the values, beliefs and standards of behavior that set the behavior within a classroom setting. At school (particularly in high school), peer approval (同龄人的认可) is one of the most important factors that can influence student behavior.(在那些对这种行为予以认可的学校和教室里,学生们更有可能出现破坏性行为。研究人员会提及“课堂氛围”。这些是关于价值观、信念以及行为准则的要素,它们决定了课堂环境中的行为表现。在学校(尤其是高中),同龄人的认可是能够影响学生行为的最重要因素之一)”以及第五段“In addition, students model and learn the behaviors they see. Telling students how to behave well won’t work when the adults in the room are stressed, and not in control of their feelings.(此外,学生们会模仿并学习他们所看到的行为举止。当房间里的成年人处于紧张状态且无法控制自己的情绪时,单纯告诉学生如何表现得体是行不通的)”可知,第4段和第5段强调了环境因素的影响。故选C。
【35题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“While behavior problems are difficult to understand or explain, there are practical things teachers and school leaders can do to reduce disruption. This begins with looking at what can be done to support positive student behavior, rather than focusing on what you can do to reduce disruption.(虽然行为问题难以理解或解释,但教师和学校领导仍可以采取一些实际措施来减少混乱局面。这首先要从思考如何支持学生良好的行为表现入手,而非一味地关注如何减少混乱现象)”可知,作者接下来可能会继续谈论促进学生良好行为的方法。故选A。

When parents and teens trust each other, it’s easier for both parties to discuss sensitive issues. Here are some tips for building trust that teens can use to create supportive relationships.
To establish a trusting relationship with your parents, let them know what you need from them. Sometimes they may not realize they’re doing something that makes you worried about talking to them. I want to be able to talk with you openly.”
____38____ Parents aren’t mind-readers and many spend a lot of time worrying about their kids. When your parents trust you to stay at home by yourself, spend time with someone significant or use technology like social media to tell them how much that means to you.
Being honest with your parents is the best way to earn their trust. ____39____ They’ll gain a better understanding of how you’re doing, both when you’re doing great and when you need their help. A. That’s part of growing up.
B. In fact, trust is a two-way street.
C. But I worry about how you’ll react.
D. Tell your parents how much their trust matters to you.

以及空后“Can we figure out a way for me to share things without you reacting right away?(我们能不能想个办法让我和你分享而不让你马上做出反应?)” 与前文构成转折,且解释希望父母不立刻回应的原因,符合语境,“worry about how you’ll react”与上文中“worry about how you’ll react”相呼应。故选C。
由下文“Parents aren’t mind-readers and many spend a lot of time worrying about their kids. When your parents trust you to stay at home by yourself, spend time with someone significant or use technology like social media to tell them how much that means to you.(父母不会读心术,很多人会花很多时间担心孩子。当你的父母相信你可以独自呆在家里时,花时间和重要的人在一起,或者使用社交媒体等技术告诉他们这对你有多重要。)”可知,本段主要讲述孩子应该主动表达,告诉父母他们的信任很重要,D选项“Tell your parents how much their trust matters to you.(告诉你的父母,他们的信任对你有多重要)”概括了回应父母信任的具体做法,适合作为段首句,引起下文,符合语境。故选D。
【39题详解】
由上文“Being honest with your parents is the best way to earn their trust.(对父母诚实是赢得他们信任的最好方法。)”以及下文“They’ll gain a better understanding of how you’re doing, both when you’re doing great and when you need their help.(他们会更好地理解你做得如何,无论是当你做得很好时,还是当你需要他们的帮助时。) ”可知,此空阐述对父母诚实所起的作用和益处,F选项“Telling the truth gives your parents a chance to go into your world.(说实话能让你的父母有机会走进你的世界。)”
上文“Lying is a quick way to break someone’s trust.(说谎是打破别人信任的最快方法。) ”指出说谎对于建立信任关系的危害,G选项“Moreover, it will be even worse when parents find out from someone who isn’t you.(此外,当父母从别人那里知道这件事时,情况会更糟。)”

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One Possible Version
“I can’t believe this is happening” was all I could think. I closed my eyes, covered my ears and shrank as low as I possibly could in my chair. After a few seconds, though. I gathered courage to uncover one ear and peek through a half-open eye. That’s when I saw the expression of pure joy on my mom’s face. She was having so much fun that I couldn’t help smiling. My classmates clapped and cheered, and I heard someone say, “Wow! Arizona’s mother is pretty talented!”
My mom turned out to be very good at performing. She was also good at teaching us the song and the dance steps. too. We learned quickly. By the time of the fair, I was actually proud of her for putting herself out there for us kids. Our performance at the Winter Fair was a huge success. As we drove home, I said to my mom, “I’m really glad you volunteered to help my class with the performance.” My mom reached back and squeezed my hand. “Thanks for saying that. I can see why you might have been embarrassed, but I had such a great time.”
