One early morning at 2:30, I arrived at a dimly lit apartment building to pick up a passenger. Most drivers would just honk and wait, but I knocked — experience had taught me that late-night fares often needed extra help. An elderly woman in her 80s answered, dressed like she’d stepped out of an old film. Her apartment was bare, its furniture covered. As we slowly made our way to the cab, she leaned heavily on my arm, thanking me repeatedly for my patience. “It’s nothing,” I said. “I just treat passengers how I’d want my mother treated.” Once settled in the backseat, she requested a detour (绕行) through downtown. I hesitated — until she whispered, “I’m on my way to a hospice (临终安养院). I’m in no hurry.” In that moment, I turned off the meter. For the next two hours, we traveled through the sleeping city as she guided me to landmarks of her life: The office building where she’d worked, the apartment where she and her late husband began their life, a warehouse that had once been a ballroom where she’d twirled in her youth. At each location, she’d grow quiet, staring at shadows where her memories lived. As dawn painted the horizon pink, she sighed, “I’m tired. Let’s go now.” We arrived at the hospice. As I helped her into a wheelchair, she tried to pay. “You owe me nothing,” I said. On impulse, I bent down and embraced her. She held on tighter than I expected. “You’ve given an old woman one last moment of joy,” she whispered. Then I drove away, haunted by her words. That quiet night taught me that life’s most meaningful moments often come disguised as small acts of kindness. 4. Why did the driver knock on the passenger’s door? A Night fares often needed special assistance. B. Dim lighting made honking ineffective there. C. Apartment rules required no honking at night. D. Elderly passengers preferred personal contact. 5. How did the woman react at her life landmarks? A. She compared old and new city views. B. She silently revisited past memories. C. She requested photos of each location. D. She described youthful adventures vividly. 6. What does the woman’s tight hug imply? A. Anxiety about entering hospice alone. B. Physical weakness required support to stand. C. Emotional gratitude for the journey given. D. Regret about being unable to pay the fare. 7. Which saying conveys the driver’s lesson? A. Time heals all wounds. B. Actions speak louder than words. C. He who helps others helps himself. D. Small kindnesses have great impacts. A 5. B 6. C 7. 根据第一段中的“Most drivers would just honk and wait, but I knocked — experience had taught me that late-night fares often needed extra help.(大多数司机只会按喇叭等待,但我敲了门——经验告诉我,深夜的乘客往往需要额外的帮助)”可知,司机敲门是因为深夜的乘客通常需要特别的帮助。故选A项。 根据第四段中的“At each location, she’d grow quiet, staring at shadows where her memories lived.(在每个地方,她都会安静下来,凝视着那些承载着她记忆的阴影)”可知,老妇人在她人生的地标处安静地重温过去的回忆。 根据倒数第二段中的“On impulse, I bent down and embraced her. She held on tighter than I expected. “You’ve given an old woman one last moment of joy,” she whispered.(我一时冲动,弯下腰拥抱了她。她抱得比我预想的还要紧。“你给了一个老妇人最后一刻的快乐,”她低声说)”可知,老妇人紧紧的拥抱体现了她对司机所给予的这段旅程的情感上的感激。故选C项。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段中的“That quiet night taught me that life’s most meaningful moments often come disguised as small acts of kindness.(那个宁静的夜晚告诉我,生活中最有意义的时刻往往伪装成小小的善举)”可知,司机从这次经历中学到的是小小的善举有巨大的影响。故选D项。 C A major reason why plastic bags and yogurt containers aren’t recycled is that it’s much more frugal to make these products from the ground up than to recover them. A new recycling technique reported in the journal Science promises a cost-effective way to transform these common plastic waste items into high-quality liquid fuels. What makes plastics useful, namely their strength and resistance to high temperatures, becomes an annoyance when it comes to recycling the materials. The strong carbon-carbon bonds in these plastics require very high temperatures to break, making the process energy-consuming. Once the bonds break, the smaller molecules (分子) that are created quickly form new bonds, giving unwanted chemicals. These byproducts then have to be broken down again adding time and complexity. Researchers developed a way to turn these plastics into useful fuels at temperatures below 100℃, without creating any side products. They conduct the chemical reaction in the presence of a new type of catalyst (催化剂) in a special acidic solution. In these reaction conditions, as soon as the carbon bonds in the plastic break apart, new bonds form in a controlled way, giving off the chemicals called alkanes. The alkanes can be used either as a fuel or as raw material for new plastics. The entire reaction takes place in a single reaction container. It takes only three hours and occurs at 70℃. By comparison, existing recycling techniques typically require two stages, take much longer and need temperatures of over 200℃. The catalyst that the researchers use is already used by some factories. But it will take more research to know whether the technique can be translated to more occasions. If so, such a one-step, low-cost method to turn single-use plastics into chemicals, fuels and high-value materials could go a long way in making the plastic economy sustainable. 8. What does the underlined word “frugal” mean in paragraph 1? A. Typical. B. Reliable. C. Reasonable. D. Economical. 9. What can we know about plastics from paragraph 2? A. They stretch easily and quickly. B. They fail to resist heat perfectly. C. They are stable in chemical properties. D. They are productive in poisonous gases 10. What does the new way of recycling plastics feature? A. Keeping new bonds from forming. B. Regulating acidity of the solution. C. Stressing cleanliness and speed. D. Extending functions of plastics. 11. What is researchers’ attitude toward the technique’s wide application? A. Critical. B. Mindful. C. Hopeless. D. Optimistic. D 9. C 10. C 11. 根据第一段中“A major reason why plastic bags and yogurt containers aren’t recycled is that it’s much more frugal to make these products from the ground up than to recover them.(塑料袋和酸奶容器不被回收利用的一个主要原因是,从头开始制造这些产品比回收它们要更frugal。)” 根据第二段中“The strong carbon-carbon bonds in these plastics require very high temperatures to break, making the process energy-consuming.(这些塑料中强大的碳-碳键需要非常高的温度才能断裂,这使得这个过程非常耗能。)” 根据第三段中“Researchers developed a way to turn these plastics into useful fuels at temperatures below 100℃, without creating any side products.(研究人员开发出一种方法,能在低于100℃的温度下将这些塑料转化为有用的燃料,且不产生任何副产物。)”和“The entire reaction takes place in a single reaction container. It takes only three hours and occurs at 70℃.(整个反应在一个反应容器中进行。它只需要三个小时,在70℃下进行。)”可知,新型塑料回收方法的特点是清洁和快速。故选C。 【11题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段中“But it will take more research to know whether the technique can be translated to more occasions. If so, such a one-step, low-cost method to turn single-use plastics into chemicals, fuels and high-value materials could go a long way in making the plastic economy sustainable.(但还需要更多研究来确定这项技术能否应用于更多场景。如果能行,那么这种将一次性塑料转化为化学品、燃料和高价值材料的一步式低成本方法,将极大地推动塑料经济的可持续发展。)”可知,研究人员认为该技术能否广泛应用还需要更多研究,他们的态度是审慎的。故选B。 D Social media is a huge part of modern teenage life, offering amazing connection but also risking mental health. While some praise its power to build communities and encourage self-expression, its negative effects are too serious to ignore, requiring us to seriously rethink its role. On the one hand, social media provides a vital space for young people, especially those from marginalized (边缘化的) groups, to find support and share experiences. It makes it easier to access information and learn about different views. For many, it is also an important outlet for creativity, which can build confidence and a sense of belonging. The ability to keep friendships with people far away is another clear benefit. However the negative impacts often seem greater. The main danger is the “perfect life” often shown online. Seeing endless perfect images and lifestyles fuels social comparison, leading to feelings of inadequacy, anxiety, and depression. The constant chase for “likes” makes a person’s self-worth depend on public approval, creating huge pressure. Furthermore, cyberbullying (网络欺凌) can cause deep and lasting psychological harm. Sleep problems from late-night scrolling and the addictive design of the apps worsen these issues, harming emotional control during key stages of growth. Therefore, while social media’s power to connect is clear, its current design is a serious threat to youth mental health. The platforms are built to maximize engagement, often at the cost of well-being, making social pressures and unrealistic expectations worse. The proven increase in anxiety and depression among heavy users highlights this crisis. Acknowledging the benefits is not enough; we must actively reduce the harm. This means teaching young users the skills to navigate (浏览) the digital world safely and healthily, so they don’t become victims of its darker side. 12. What is mentioned as a positive function of social media? A. Offering identity exploration spaces. B. Reducing sleep quality significantly. C. Increasing face-to-face interactions. D. Removing social barriers completely. 13. Why does the author mention the chase for “likes”? A. To show it builds self-esteem. B. To highlight its motivational role. C. To criticize its link to self-worth. D. To suggest removing all feedback. 14. What does the text imply about platform design? A. It prioritizes user privacy. B. It seeks engagement over well-being. C. It focuses on educational goals. D. It is designed by mental health experts. 15. Which title best summarizes the text? A. A Guide to Safe Internet Use B. The Rise of Digital Communities C. How to Build Confidence Online D. Social Media: A Double-Edged Sword for Teens 【答案】12. A 13. C 14. B 15. 根据第二段“On the one hand, social media provides a vital space for young people, especially those from marginalized groups, to find support and share experiences. It makes it easier to access information and learn about different views. For many, it is also an important outlet for creativity, which can build confidence and a sense of belonging. The ability to keep friendships with people far away is another clear benefit.(一方面,社交媒体为年轻人,尤其是那些来自边缘群体的年轻人,提供了一个寻求支持和分享经验的重要空间。它使访问信息和了解不同观点变得更加容易。对许多人来说,它也是发挥创造力的重要途径,可以建立信心和归属感。与远方的人保持友谊的能力是另一个明显的好处)”可知,社交媒体为年轻人(尤其是边缘群体)提供了寻找支持、分享经验和表达创造力的空间,这有助于建立自信和归属感,即社交媒体的积极功能是提供身份探索的空间。故选A。 根据第三段中的“The main danger is the ‘perfect life’ often shown online. Seeing endless perfect images and lifestyles fuels social comparison, leading to feelings of inadequacy, anxiety, and depression. The constant chase for ‘likes’ makes a person’s self-worth depend on public approval, creating huge pressure.(主要的危险是网上经常出现的“完美生活”。看到无穷无尽的完美形象和生活方式助长了社会比较,导致了自卑、焦虑和抑郁的感觉。不断追求“赞”会让一个人的自我价值依赖于公众的认可,从而产生巨大的压力)”可知,对“点赞”的追求导致青少年将自我价值建立在公众认可上,从而产生巨大压力。由此推知,作者提到追求点赞是为了批评它与自我价值的联系。故选C。 【14题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段中的“Therefore, while social media’s power to connect is clear, its current design is a serious threat to youth mental health. The platforms are built to maximize engagement, often at the cost of well-being, making social pressures and unrealistic expectations worse.(因此,虽然社交媒体的连接能力是显而易见的,但其目前的设计对青少年的心理健康构成了严重威胁。这些平台的建立是为了最大化用户粘性,但往往是以牺牲幸福感为代价,使社会压力和不切实际的期望变得更糟)”可知,社交平台的设计以“最大化用户参与度”为核心,但这是以牺牲用户福祉为代价的。故选B。 【15题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,并结合第一段“Social media is a huge part of modern teenage life, offering amazing connection but also risking mental health. While some praise its power to build communities and encourage self-expression, its negative effects are too serious to ignore, requiring us to seriously rethink its role.(社交媒体是现代青少年生活的重要组成部分,提供了惊人的联系,但也冒着心理健康的风险。 In today’s world, there are many voices of opposition to the regulations on wearing school uniforms. I took the watch in my hands, feeling its weight and the smoothness of the metal. From that day on. I carried it with me everywhere, not just as a timepiece but as a connection with my father. A few months later, my father’s birthday was approaching. I wanted to give him something truly special, something that would show him how much loved and appreciated him, just as my father had shown his love for me with the watch. One day, while walking through a local market. I spotted (看见) a handmade leather wallet in a small stand. It was a rich, deep brown color, and the craftsmanship was exquisite (精美的). The edges were neatly stitched (缝), and there were subtle patterns impressed on the surface. I knew instantly that my father would love it. I asked the vendor (小贩) about the price. My heart sank when I heard the amount; it was far more than the money I had saved from my allowance (津贴). The vendor, noticing my disappointment, said, “Young man, if you’re really set on this wallet, I can work out a payment plan with you.” I brightened up immediately. He took out a piece of paper and carefully wrote down the details of my name and wallet. I handed over the five dollars I had, which mean sacrificing my usual weekend treats, but I didn’t hesitate. After that, l started doing odd jobs around the neighborhood. I mowed lawns for our neighbors, helped carry groceries for the elderly, and did small tasks for friends. Every bit of money I earned, I saved. Week after week I brought the money I’d earned to the market vendor. The vendor smiled warmly as he handed me the wallet, now wrapped in a simple but elegant paper. I clutched it tightly, feeling a mix of excitement and relief. It was not just a wallet; it was a symbol of my love and gratitude, which I had saved and worked hard for. On his birthday, as he opened the gift, my father paused (停顿). His eyes widened in surprise, and then a broad smile spread across his face. “This is beautiful,” he said, running his fingers over the leather. “I can tell how much effort you put into this.” I smiled proudly, explaining how I had saved up and worked odd jobs to afford it. He hugged me tightly, whispering, “This is the best gift I’ve ever received, because it shows how much you care.” In that moment, I knew the love between us was truly priceless. 词汇激活 行为类 ① 紧紧握住:clutch sth. tightly/hold sth. firmly ② 回家:hurry home/rush back home/go home in a hurry ③ 拥抱:hug/embrace 情绪类 ① 兴奋:excitement/thrill ② 惊讶:surprise/astonishment/amazement 【点睛】【高分句型1】Knowing that I had finally fulfilled my promise, I hurried home, imagining how happy my father would be when he saw the gift. A. Night fares often needed special assistance. C A major reason why plastic bags and yogurt containers aren’t recycled is that it’s much more frugal to make these products from the ground up than to recover them. A. Critical. B. Mindful. C. Hopeless. D. Optimistic. D Social media is a huge part of modern teenage life, offering amazing connection but also risking mental health. However, the negative impacts often seem greater. Social Media: A Double-Edged Sword for Teens In today’s world, there are many voices of opposition to the regulations on wearing school uniforms. Some argue uniforms are restrictive and take away individuality. ____16____ Uniforms reduce peer (同辈) pressure and conflict. When students come to school dressed in their own clothes, they may feel pressure to keep up with the latest trends or worry about what their peers might think. This can lead to feelings of anxiety and social exclusion. ____17____ No one child is better or worse off because of what they are wearing. This removes the constant comparisons and competition that can be stressful for some students, and instead, establishes a sense of belonging and community. Week after week, I brought the money I’d earned to the market vendor. He always greeted me with a kind smile and recorded each payment. The day before my father’s birthday, I paid the last two cents (美分). ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ On his birthday, as he opened the gift, my father paused (停顿). ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
