For me, one of the greatest pleasure in life is going to watch a great film at the cinema. It’s a chance for me to get away from real life. There’s nothing better than being lost in a story unless, of course, someone decides to break down the moment.
Whether at a cinema or a huge theatre, someone usually decides to treat the place like their own home! Here are some accepted ways of behaving at the cinema which some people don’t seem to understand.
To start with, some people always turn up late, causing you to rise from your seat to allow them to go past. Then, when you want to enjoy the surround-sound effects, someone begins to enjoy their drinks and popcorn and thus makes a lot of noises. And what I can’t stand most is people who decide to chat with their friends, sometimes not even about the film.
I’m not alone in this situation. Simon Mayo, a film critic (评论家) at the BBC experienced a “new low” during a film. He says, “The woman in front of me got a mirror out, then her boyfriend got a phone out and used the light on it to allow her to do her make-up!”
Simon has helped to create a list of rules on how moviegoers should behave at the cinema. One of them is no use of mobile phones, and another is not to take your shoes off—a most serious offence (冒犯).
Of course, when we have paid for a ticket, we feel it is our right to relax and enjoy the film in the way we want to, but we mustn’t forget our fellow moviegoers who want to enjoy the cinematic experience, too.
The best choice for anyone wanting to break the rules of cinema manners is to get a DVD and watch it at home. But we all know that the best way to enjoy the art of cinematography is on the big screen. ________
What about you? What annoys you about other people at the cinema?
28.Why does the writer enjoy going to the cinema?
A.It makes him feel like being at home. B.He wants to enjoy the cinematic experience.
C.He prefers watching the films on big screens. D.It gives him a moment to stay away from real life.
29.What is considered by Simon to be the rudest at a cinema?
A.Doing the making-up. B.Using mobile phones.
C.Taking the shoes off. D.Chatting with friends.
30.Which is the best sentence to fill in the blank in Paragraph 7?
A.Just stay at home! B.It’s your choice!
C.Go to the cinema! D.Manners are important!

“Want to go to the pool tomorrow?” Riya asked Sheetal during break.
Riya and Sheetal did everything together. They were best friends. Most of the time.
Sometimes, though, when Sheetal was with other friends, she ignored Riya or treated her like a little kid.
Today was one of those times. “Sorry. I’m already going to the pool,” Sheetal said. “Tina and Vaidehi and I are going.” She smiled, but it wasn’t her nice smile. She walked away to join Tina and Vaidehi, and Riya was left standing alone.
After school, at dance class, Sheetal talked with the other dancers as they stretched (拉伸) in front of the mirror. Riya wanted to join them, but she held back a bit.
Then she noticed Zora, the new girl. Riya joined her and began stretching, too. Zora smiled, and Riya smiled back. Riya tried not to check the mirror to see if Sheetal had noticed. I hope she feels left out, Riya thought.
The next morning, when Riya boarded the bus, Sheetal was waiting in their usual seat. Sheetal quickly moved her backpack off the seat to make room for Riya. But Riya walked past her and slid into the empty seat next to Zora. How does it feel now? Riya thought.
On the bus ride, Riya discovered that Zora was not a quiet girl. She talked a lot-about her little brother, about the tree house her uncle had built, and even about swimming.
“I love swimming!” Riya said.
“Me, too,” Zora said. “We just joined the YMCA.
My dad said he’d take my sister and me tonight.”
“It’s awesome there,” Riya said.
“Maybe you can come with us tonight,” Zora said. “I’ll ask my dad.”
“That would be fun. I’ll ask my mom,” said Riya.
When they got off the bus, Sheetal was waiting on the sidewalk. “Did you still want to go swimming tonight?” Sheetal asked Riya.
Here’s my chance, Riya thought. “I’m already going together.” She smiled. Somehow she knew it wasn’t her nice smile.
Sheetal nodded and looked at her feet.
Riya’s face began to burn. Why didn’t she feel happy? It didn’t feel good at all. “Um,” she said instead, “maybe…”
31.What does the underlined “ignored” mean in this story?
A.laughed at B.paid no attention to
C.cared about D.took notice of
32.How did Riya feel when she held back instead of joining her friend Sheetal at dance class?
A.A bit angry. B.A bit nervous.

A.Maybe you could go with others, Sheetal.
B.Maybe you could go with your sister, Zora.
C.Maybe we could go all together, Sheetal.
D.Maybe we could go with your sister, Zora.
D
In the story Snow White, the jealous queen decides to kill Snow White once and for all with an apple dipped in deadly poison (毒). Thanks to seven helpful dwarfs and a handsome prince, Snow White recovery one lives happily ever after.
But the queen didn’t need to go to all that trouble. In fact, apples-along with many common fruits we eat-are already poisonous! But don’t worry. The yummy fleshy part won’t harm you. It’s only the seeds you need to avoid.
Apple trees belong to a plant family called Prunus. This group also includes peaches, plums and cherries. The seeds of all these fruits carry a chemical called amygdalin. Inside an animal’s stomach, amygdalin turns into a strong poison called cyanide (氰化物). And cyanide can make people and animals very sick, or even kill them.
Still, don’t worry if you get down a few apple seeds by chance. Each seed has only a very tiny amount (数量) of poison. You’d have to eat a large bowlful of seeds to feel any influence. And you’ d need to chew (咀嚼) them well-the hard, shiny coating of apple seeds keeps the poison locked inside.
Unchewed seeds usually pass right through and come out whole in your poop. But cows and other animals often chew up seeds along with the fruit, so they can get sick from eating apples and plums that fall to the ground.
Why would a tree make poisoned seeds? ________! Amygdalin tastes terrible. It’s also found in leaves and other parts of fruit trees. If a deer or cow eats apple leaves, it experiences a nasty taste and an upset stomach so animals soon learn to leave those trees alone. Thanks, amygdalin!
Want proof? If you bite into an apple seed, you’ll notice an awful taste. That’s the amygdalin. The apple tree doesn’t want you to chew up its seeds. It wants you to spit them out, so they can grow into new trees. Go right ahead!
Mirror mirror, on the wall, who’s the cleverest fruit of all?
34.What happens when amygdalin is inside an animal’s stomach?
A.It produces a strong poison. B.It turns into awful apple juice.
C.It harms the fleshy part of apples. D.It saves the animal from illness and death.
35.The writer suggests it’s safe to accidentally get down a few apple seeds because ________.
①the amount of poison in each seed is very small
②the poison in the seeds is harmless to human beings
③the influence of the poison is weak if you eat only a few seeds
④the hard coating of the seeds can keep the poison locked inside
A.①②③ B.①②④ C.①③④ D.②③④
36.Which of the following would be most suitable for ________?
A.To ensure the seeds grow faster B.To produce a sweet taste in the fruit
C.To make the seeds more attractive to eat D.To prevent animals from eating the seeds
37.In writing this article, the writer wants to ________.
A.introduce readers the cleverest fruit of all

Almost everyone can go on a trip at any time as long as they want to. However, it was not easy to travel far away in ancient times. Here are two famous people who travelled around China centuries ago and they got a lot from travelling.

Xu Xiake was on the road all his life, and his travel notes covered as much as his knowledge. His 60000-word travel notes finally came out in 1776, about 135 years after his death. China Tourism Day is set on May 19th, the date when Xu started to write his book—The Travels of Xu Xiake.

They reached Shangdu in Inner Mongolia in 1275. Kublai Khan gave them a warm welcome there and took them to Dadu.

15.C 16.A 17.A 18.B 19.B 20.C 21.D 22.A 23.D 24.C
根据下文“‘I honestly don’t know,’ Grandma answered. ‘If you two treasure hunters can open this trunk, you can have it, along with whatever is inside.’” 故选A。
根据下文“All I can say is, Ollie surely lost that bet.” 故选A。

根据“Instead of unlocking the trunk, we can remove (移除) the screws to ... it!”
根据“Those shoes were in such great condition that most of them ... up going to the charity sale.”

根据“most of them ended up going to the charity sale.”
根据“I guess you could say we found the ... after all!”

根据第一段中的“It’s a chance for me to get away from real life.”
根据第五段中的“One of them is no use of mobile phones, and another is not to take your shoes off—a most serious offence (冒犯).”
C
C.A little shy. D.A little ashamed.
33.What did Riya want to say in the end?
A.Maybe you could go with others, Sheetal.
B.Maybe you could go with your sister, Zora.
C.Maybe we could go all together, Sheetal.
D.Maybe we could go with your sister, Zora.
【答案】31.B 32.A 33.C

根据“Sometimes, though, when Sheetal was with other friends, she ignored Riya or treated her like a little kid.”
根据“After school, at dance class, Sheetal talked with the other dancers as they stretched (拉伸) in front of the mirror. Riya wanted to join them, but she held back a bit.” 故选A。
根据“‘Did you still want to go swimming tonight?’ Sheetal asked Riya.”以及“I’m already going together.”

③the influence of the poison is weak if you eat only a few seeds
④the hard coating of the seeds can keep the poison locked inside
A.①②③ B.①②④ C.①③④ D.②③④

根据“If a deer or cow eats apple leaves, it experiences a nasty taste and an upset stomach so animals soon learn to leave those trees alone.”

As the saying goes, “Read ten thousand books and travel ten thousand miles”. In modern society, travelling is a very common thing. Almost everyone can go on a trip at any time as long as they want to. However, it was not easy to travel far away in ancient times.
