C In Korea, few of the older people can speak some English, and most of them can’t say a word. They will often smile and laugh while trying to help English-speaking foreigners. But recently English learning has become popular with the youth. If you really need help, it is better to go for younger. A lot of university students or young adults can speak at least basic English and will usually be very willing to help you. In fact, even if you just look lost, a younger Korean will probably ask you if you need help. A lot of young Koreans will take the chance to help you in order just to practice their English skills-a win-win situation. Everyone in Korea takes English classes these days starting from elementary (初级的) school normally. Many also join in after-school programs for studies. I was in my friend’s city which was about 4 hours’ driving from mine. In my city we had the timetable in English as well as Korean, but that wasn’t the case here. I could not read Korean at that time, so I could not find when my bus was planned to leave, and did not know how to ask. Luckily, as I was looking at the timetable with the eyes wide open probably with a puzzled, or perplexed look on my face, a Korean person asked me if I needed help. I told him where I was going and he showed me the timetable and even helped me buy my ticket! 28. What can we know from the text? A. All the Koreans are asked to learn to speak English. B. D In a world-record effort to help save a valuable sea creature, Australian scientists have released hundreds of baby seahorses into the wild. The tiny seahorses are endangered, and the scientists hope the new seahorses will help their numbers grow. Seahorses get their name because they look a bit like horses. They aren’t great swimmers, even though they’re fish. They often use their tails to hold onto something in the water. They mostly live in warm, shallow waters around the world. They are often found in coral reefs, in beds of seagrass, and areas where rivers empty into the sea. Seahorses form an important part of the ocean’s food chain. They eat tiny sea creatures and are eaten by bigger sea animals. Many kinds of seahorses are often threatened by the human actions. Sometimes they’re caught and sold as pets. They are also caught by accident when people are trying to catch other fish. To begin the project, scientists collected three pregnant seahorses in January. Those seahorses were brought back to the aquarium (水族馆) in Sydney. After the babies were born, the scientists kept them there for five months, feeding the baby seahorses shrimps (小虾) to help them grow strong. Scientist Mitchell Brennan says, “They don’t have a stomach, so they have to eat constantly.” About a month before the young seahorses were released, the scientists created eight underwater “hotels” for them. The hotels look like cages, providing a safe place for the seahorses to develop. Putting the hotels into the sea early allowed the cages to be covered with small sea life that can help provide food for the seahorses. This is the fifth time the scientists have released seahorses into the area, and this time was a record. Around 380 seahorses were released. The researchers put tiny tags (标记) under the skin of many of the seahorses to help track them in the future. 32. What can be learned about seahorses from paragraph 2? A. They look exactly like horses. B. They have a gift for swimming. C. They mostly live in the deep sea. D. They feed on small sea creatures. 33. What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about? A. The types of the seahorses. B. Living conditions the seahorses need. C. Areas the seahorses live in. D. Dangers the seahorses face. 34. Why are the eight “hotels” put into the sea early? A. To differ the project from the former ones. B. To avoid danger the seahorses may face. C. To offer food to the seahorses. D. To help track the seahorses in the future. 35. What can be the best title for the text? A. A New Study on Endangered Seahorses B. Underwater “Hotels” for Baby Seahorses C. A Record Number of Baby Seahorses Were Released D. New Methods of Finding Endangered Seahorses How Well Do You Know Yourself? After only a month in school, she began to come home often asking for pencils, crayons(蜡笔), paper, and so on. At first, I just provided whatever she needed, never questioning her. After she kept asking for things like pencils and crayons that should have been enough for just six weeks of fourth grade, I got worried and asked her, "Gina, what are you doing with your school supplies?" She would always reply with an answer that satisfied me. One day, after offering the same thing only a week earlier, I became angry with her for asking for more. Knowing her excuses would no longer work, she lowered her head and began to cry. I lifted her tiny chin (FE) and looked into her teary brown eyes. "Mom," she said, "there is a boy in my class, John, who doesn’t have any of the items he needs to do his work. The other kids make fun of him. I talked to Mrs. Melton about it, and she had a wonderful idea. She now keeps a ‘supply box’ filled with donated (捐赠的) notebooks, pencils, and crayons that anyone can use if they need something or forget their own. I put all the extra items you gave me into the box. This way, John will have enough supplies for his studies. Please don’t be mad at me, Mom. " My heart sank and moved. In my city, we had the timetable in English as well as Korean, but that wasn’t the case here. I could not read Korean at that time, so I could not find when my bus was planned to leave, and did not know how to ask. Luckily, as I was looking at the timetable with the eyes wide open probably with a puzzled, or perplexed look on my face, a Korean person asked me if I needed help. New Methods of Finding Endangered Seahorses 【答案】32. D 33. D 34. C 35. We often hear of people who make long journeys to different parts of the world. ____36____ Having an insight into your true self helps you feel more confident and at peace with yourself. How do you start your journey of self-discovery? Here are four things you can do. Identify what you value about yourself. Know what you most like about yourself, something you are proud of. It could be about how creative you are, your ability to understand others or about your goalkeeping skills at football. ____37____ Get out of your comfort zone. ____38____ However, in order to discover yourself, you will need to put yourself in some uncomfortable situations. It could be about breaking the ice with a new classmate even though it gives you sweaty palms. This will give you an opportunity to learn more about how you feel, think and react when challenged. ____39____ What makes your eyes light up? This will tell you where you obtain your true joy. It could be when you are performing a dance on stage, when you help your dad fix that bug in his computer, or even when you are doing research on your school science project. Ask yourself who you want to be. What is your true purpose in life? Who or what do you want to be, really? As you go about your daily activities, ask yourself these questions to gain an understanding into your true self. ____40____ The self-discovery journey is not a finite one. In fact, it is constantly evolving. As Ariana Huffington said, “The journey toward self-discovery is life’s greatest adventure.” A. Know what your strength is. B. Know what makes you excited. C. It won’t be difficult for you to answer these questions. D. It is always more comfortable to be on familiar ground. E. However, the biggest journey one can make is within oneself. F. Such questioning will enable you to reflect, and increase self-awareness. G. This will give you an insight into the personal values or abilities you hold dear. E 37. G 38. D 39. B 40. 【36题详解】 根据空前内容“We often hear of people who make long journeys to different parts of the world. (我经常听说有人长途旅行到各地)”以及空后内容“Having an insight into your true self helps you feel more confident and at peace with yourself. (对真实的自己有洞察会让你更自信、更平和)”可知,空前提到的长途旅行和空后提到对自己的洞察,中间缺少过渡句,故E项“然而一个人能进行的最大的旅途是在自己的内心”可以连接上下句子,起到承上启下的作用。故选E。 【37题详解】 根据本段小标题“Identify what you value about yourself(识别你看中自己的哪些方面)”及本段首句“what do you most like about yourself, something you are proud of?(你最喜欢自己, 最引以为傲的是自己的哪个方面?)” 故G项“This will give you an insight into the personal values or abilities you hold dear. I knelt down and hugged her to me, not wanting her to see my own tears. I stood up and said, "Gina, I would never get mad at you for wanting to help someone. " The next day, I visited Mrs. Melton and then learned that John’s family had just moved here. John was the eldest of four boys, and their parents were struggling to make ends meet. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 With Christmas drawing near, I became concerned about John and his family. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ On Christmas Day, we set out for John’s house. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】参考范文 With Christmas drawing near, I became concerned about John and his family. How would they spend Christmas during such a difficult time? Considering this, I decided to help them. Therefore, I told Gina that instead of the usual gift exchange, we would go shopping to select some gifts for John’s family. On hearing my plan, Gina couldn’t wait to choose things for them. Tired but excited, we returned home with the things they would need and carefully packed the gifts. On Christmas Day, we set out for John’s house. Upon arriving, Gina and I carefully placed the gifts on their doorstep. We knocked on the door and quickly returned to our car, holding our breath as we waited for their reaction. Seeing their faces light up with surprise and joy, I knew we had made the right decision. We hoped that our small act of kindness could bring some joy and warmth to John’s family and brighten their lives in the future. 词汇激活 行为类 ①帮助:help/assist ②挑选:select /choose ③决定:decide/determine ④告诉:tell/ inform 情绪类: ①兴奋的:excited/thrilled ②快乐:joy/pleasure 【点睛】【高分句型 1】Tired but excited, we returned home with the things they would need and carefully packed the gifts.(运用了形容词作状语和省略that或者which引导的定语从句 ) 【高分句型 2】We hoped that our small act of kindness could bring some joy and warmth to John’s family and brighten their lives in the future.(运用了that引导的宾语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
