Best known for becoming the fastest women in the world, and the first female to win 3 Olympic gold medals at the same games, Wilma Rudolph’s journey was a long trip far from smooth sailing.
She was born on June 23, 1940, in St. Bethlehem, Tennessee. At two years old, she had several weakening health conditions, which forced her to wear a leg brace (支架) when growing elder. She said, “My doctor told me I would never walk again. My mother told me I would. I believed my mother.”
Despite the disabilities, the young athlete showed surprising promise early on. She began moving around on her brace and by the age of 11 became mobile enough to play basketball. Eventually, she was able to overcome her disabilities and fully devoted her life to athletics. When in the high school, she joined the basketball team, and as a naturally gifted runner she was then admitted to Tennessee State University to train with famous track coach Ed Temple.
Nicknamed “Skeeter” for her intense speed, Rudolph competed for the first in 1956 at the Summer Olympics at Melbourne, Australia. Here, as the youngest member of the team at just 16, she raced in the Women’s 200 meters and the 4×100-meter relay; the latter of which saw her team win bronze. After 4 years at the 1960 Olympics in Rome, Italy, she won a ground-breaking 3 gold medals: Women’s 100m and 200m, and the 4×100m relay. In 1962, she retired from competition and returned to finish her degree at Tennessee State University, after which she began working in the education industry. In 1981, she established the ‘Wilma Rudolph Foundation’, a nonprofit organization based in Indianapolis that promotes and helps amateur athletics, with a focus on track and field stars.
Her amazing life came to an end on November 12, 1994. Of course, she made her mark on sports history. However, she is also remembered for her motto — winning is great, sure, but if you are going to do something in life, the secret is learning how to lose.
4. Who played the key role in young Rudolph’s belief in recovery?
A. Her doctor. B. Her coach. C. Her mother. D. Her teammate.
5. Which words best describe Rudolph’s early life?
A. Healthy and promising. B. Challenging and difficult.
C. Ordinary and uneventful. D. Wealthy and favorable.
6. Which of the following best reflects Rudolph’s life motto?
A. Never say die. B. Always aim high. C. Lose to learn. D. Victory matters.
7. What is the main purpose of the text?
A. To honor Rudolph’s life and spirits. B. To list Rudolph’s Olympic medals.
C. To teach how to overcome disabilities. D. To promote the Wilma Rudolph Foundation.
C
Labubu dolls are hard to find. Even at the giant flagship store of their maker, Pop Mart, in Shanghai, customers are told they need to wait a week or longer. The lovely creatures, sold in “blind boxes” so that buyers don’t know which one they will get, are loved not only by Chinese children but also by famous people at home and abroad.
For many years Chinese shoppers liked to follow foreign trends in fashion, make-up, hotels and other areas. But now, they are turning to local luxury brands (品牌), high-end make-up labels and milk tea shops. Furthermore, many of these brands are winning fans in other countries. Chinese brands are beginning to enter international markets with their unique products.
As consumers have become more careful about spending, cheap but good-quality local brands have grown popular. But lower prices are not the only reason for the love of Chinese brands. In many cases shoppers are paying the same or even more for local products. For instance, the best-selling drinks at Chagee, a tea chain that went public in New York in April, are tea lattes that sell for 15-20yuan ($2-3), almost the same as Starbucks’s top drinks in China.
Chinese consumers are also now far less crazy about foreign goods simply because they are foreign. The rapid rise of Laopu proves that. Instead of copying Western style, both Laopu and Chagee have shown off their Chineseness. It has worked. The competition is not limited to China. Pop Mart now has stores in more than 20 countries, including at least 37 in America. Chagee will have more than 1,300shops outside China by the end of the year, up from almost none four years ago.
Experts believe that the more foreign recognition these brands get, the more popular they become within China. The popularity on Western social media over Labubu dolls is thought to have made them even more famous at home.
8. Why are Labubu dolls difficult to buy according to the text?
A. The demand is too strong. B. Flagship stores are in short.
C. Blind boxes are hard to deliver. D. The buyers’ description is unclear.
9. How does the author illustrate the popularity of Chinese products?
A. By analysing data. B. By listing prices.
C. By comparing sales. D. By giving examples.
10. Which word best describes the brands mentioned in paragraph 4?
A. Traditional. B. Luxurious. C. Innovative. D. Valueless.
11 What would be the best title for the text?
A. Labubu Dolls: The Most Popular Toy in China.
B. Chinese Brands: From Local Fame to Global Fans.
C. Chagee and Pop Mart: Leading Chinese Industries.
D. Foreign Goods: Losing Their Appeal in Chinese Market.
D
Sleep has long been a demon-haunted (被恶魔纠缠的) world. Though modern science has no truck with actual demons, the fear that bad dreams somehow weaken a dreamer’s health has not disappeared. Instead, it has been confirmed.
Almost everyone has nightmares or bad dreams. But it is among those who have them weekly that connections with ill-health seem to arise. Depression, anxiety, and mental disorders, for example, all have nightmares as a common symptom (症状). In a study made by Dr Otaiku, it shows frequent nightmares are stronger predictors of early death than smoking, obesity, or poor diet.
To arrive at his conclusion, Dr Otaiku examined six long-term studies from America and Britain, involving more than 180,000 adults and almost 2,500 children. Those whose nightmares were weekly or more frequent were three times more likely to die before the age of 70 than those who had them less than once a month. Out of 174 people who died early, 31 had at least weekly nightmares.
Part of the explanation is his finding that the chromosomes (染色体) with the tendency towards bad dreams show signs of speeded ageing of a sort that can be brought about by stress hormones. These chromosomal effects are responsible for about 40% of the increased risk of early death in those tendency to bad dreams. Where the other 60% comes from is unknown.
All of those suggest paying attention to nightmares is a good idea. Where they are a symptom, they can give warning of what is coming. And where they are a cause, treatments to reduce nightmares can be undertaken as a first task.
That is not to say the two are always easy to differ from each other. In the cases of depression, anxiety and so on, nightmares are both symptom and cause. Bad dreams caused by mental disturbance produce stress that worsens the underlying condition. Spotting nightmares is one thing. Treating them is another. Psychotherapy may help some. And certain drugs may assist. But the study of nightmares remains an underexplored field of medicine. That needs to change.
12. What does the underlined phrase “has no truck with” in paragraph 1 probably mean?
A. Pays no attention to. B. Has no connection with.
C. Has no influence on. D. Does no research on.
13. What is the key factor that nightmares affect people’s lifetime?
A. The duration. B. The content. C. The frequency. D. The response.
14. Why is it hard to tell if nightmares are a symptom?
A. Their biological function is unknown. B. They are both symptom and cause.
C They are related to many diseases. D. Medical research is not enough.
15. What does the author think of the current study of nightmares?
A. Reliable. B. In-depth. C. Pointless. D. Imperfect.
Parents are the number one influence in their children’s lives. ____16____ Yet in daily life, many parents often doubt their own influence — they worry that friends, media or teachers have a bigger impact on their kids’ choices. Research shows that this worry is unnecessary, and there are three key things parents can do to protect children from risky behaviors: building relation, boundaries (边界), and monitoring.
The stronger the relationship between parents and their children, the more the child will not want to disappoint their parents. ____17____ For example, eating dinner together as a family regularly can significantly reduce the chance of children getting involved in risky behavior. Besides, listening to children’s thoughts and feelings without rushing to draw a conclusion also helps strengthen this precious bond.
Boundaries are equally important. They are set when parents make clear family rules, such as “no alcohol or other drugs for teens”. ____18____ If parents clearly explain the reasons for the rules and the consequences of breaking them, only a small percentage of teens will dare to try risky things. What’s more, once the rules are broken, parents should follow through with the agreed consequences to show that rules are not empty words.
____19____ A recent study points out that the most effective parenting style to protect youth is warm and attentive with follow-through” This means parents should stay connected with their kids’ lives: when children go out, ask questions like “Where are you going?”, “Who will you be with?”, “What will you do?” and “When will you be home?”. ____20____ Checking their social media from time to time (with their permission) is also a way to stay informed without invading (侵犯) their privacy.
A. Check on their social media usage regularly.
B. This bond acts as a natural protection for children.
C. In other words, trust your kids but keep an eye on them.
D. Consequences should be carried out when rules are broken.
E. Many parents don’t fully realize how powerful their influence is.
F. Monitoring is another crucial part of parenting, especially for teens.
G. That’s because family meals bring togetherness and open discussion.

In early 2025, I lost my job. At first, I felt like the world had come to an end. You see, work wasn’t just a way to earn money for me — it was a big part of who I was. I’d built so much of my identity around it.
I’ve always had a strong work principle. Work was always my top priority. No matter what happened, I put it first. I felt responsible for every task, big or small. Guilt weighed on me like a heavy bag — just like those screenshots on your phone that you never sort out but can’t bear to remove. My life was a crazy race: I had to take care of my young child, manage the house, keep up with social responsibilities, stay away from foods full of fat, and make sure I walked 10,000 steps every day. On top of all that, I had to answer Teams’ messages faster than a teenager replying to TikTok comments. It was so tiring — I could barely catch my breath.
I often skipped dinners just to finish my tasks. I truly loved my work and my team. Doing things well made me proud. Every small success gave me a little rush of dopamine (多巴胺), which made this busy cycle feel addictive. I treated my stress like a fitness tracker: the higher the stress “number”, the more I thought I was doing a good job.
Then one morning, everything changed. I was let go — all because of provincial budget (预算) cuts. It happened so suddenly, I couldn’t believe it. Luckily, my partner was very supportive. I didn’t have to rush to find a new job right away. Even though I had the chance to take it easy for a few months, I just couldn’t relax. I didn’t know what to do with myself. Out of habit, I still woke up at 6 a.m. every day. When I tried to relax, I felt guilty. I missed that feeling of being needed by others.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
One day, when I picked up my daughter, she asked me to visit a park.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The bond I felt with my daughter in the park made me relaxed.

C 5. B 6. C 7. A

For many years, Chinese shoppers liked to follow foreign trends in fashion, make-up, hotels and other areas.
B. Luxurious. C. Innovative. D. Valueless.
11. What would be the best title for the text?
A. Labubu Dolls: The Most Popular Toy in China.
B. Chinese Brands: From Local Fame to Global Fans.
C. Chagee and Pop Mart: Leading Chinese Industries.
D. Foreign Goods: Losing Their Appeal in Chinese Market.
A 9. D 10. C 11. B

根据第一段“Labubu dolls are hard to find. Even at the giant flagship store of their maker, Pop Mart, in Shanghai, customers are told they need to wait a week or longer. The lovely creatures, sold in “blind boxes” so that buyers don’t know which one they will get, are loved not only by Chinese children but also by famous people at home and abroad.(拉布布玩偶很难买到。即便是在其制造商波普玛特在上海的大型旗舰店里,顾客被告知也需要等待一周或更长时间才能买到。这些可爱的玩偶是以“盲盒”的形式出售的,这样买家就不知道自己会抽到哪个款式。它们不仅深受中国儿童的喜爱,也受到国内外名人的青睐)”可知,玩偶受不同群体(儿童、中外名人)广泛喜爱,需求量大,这是导致其难购买的核心原因。故选A。
根据第三段“For instance, the best-selling drinks at Chagee, a tea chain that went public in New York in April, are tea lattes that sell for 15-20yuan ($2-3), almost the same as Starbucks’s top drinks in China.(例如,茶饮连锁店“霸王茶姬”(Chagee)于四月在纽约上市,其最畅销的饮品是售价在 15 至 20 元(约合 2 至 3 美元)的茶拿铁,价格几乎与星巴克在中国的顶级饮品持平)”以及第四段“Pop Mart now has stores in more than 20 countries, including at least 37 in America. Chagee will have more than 1,300shops outside China by the end of the year, up from almost none four years ago.( 泡泡玛特目前在超过20个国家设有门店,其中包括美国至少37家门店。而霸王茶姬在年底之前将在中国以外拥有超过1300家门店,而四年前这一数字几乎为零)”可知,作者是通过举例子说明中国产品的受欢迎程度的。故选D。
【10题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段“Instead of copying Western style, both Laopu and Chagee have shown off their Chineseness. It has worked.(Laopu和霸王茶姬并没有一味模仿西方风格,而是展现出了自身的中国特色。这一做法取得了成效)”可知,中国的品牌是具有创造性的。故选C。
【11题详解】
主旨大意题。根据最后一段“Experts believe that the more foreign recognition these brands get, the more popular they become within China. The popularity on Western social media over Labubu dolls is thought to have made them even more famous at home.(专家们认为,这些品牌获得的国际认可度越高,它们在中国的受欢迎程度就会越高。
To arrive at his conclusion Dr Otaiku examined six long-term studies from America and Britain, involving more than 180,000 adults and almost 2,500 children.
C. They are related to many diseases. D. Medical research is not enough.
15. What does the author think of the current study of nightmares?
A. Reliable. B. In-depth. C. Pointless. D. Imperfect.
B 13. C 14. B 15. D

根据划线词上文“Though modern science”中though表示转折,结合后文“the fear that bad dreams somehow weaken a dreamer’s health has not disappeared.(那种认为噩梦会某种程度上损害做梦者健康的想法并未消失)”和“Instead, it has been confirmed.(相反,此事已被证实)”可知,现代科学不认可“真实恶魔与噩梦相关”的传统认知,但是此事已被证实。由此可知,划线词组has no truck with与has no connection with“与……无关”。故选B。
【13题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段“In a study made by Dr Otaiku, it shows frequent nightmares are stronger predictors of early death than smoking, obesity, or poor diet.(在奥塔基博士的一项研究中表明,频繁做噩梦比吸烟、肥胖或不良饮食更显著地预示着早逝)”以及第三段“Those whose nightmares were weekly or more frequent were three times more likely to die before the age of 70 than those who had them less than once a month.(那些每周或更频繁做噩梦的人,在70岁之前死亡的几率是那些每月做噩梦少于一次的人的三倍)”可知,噩梦的频率是影响早逝的关键因素。
根据第五段“All of those suggest paying attention to nightmares is a good idea. Where they are a symptom, they can give warning of what is coming. And where they are a cause, treatments to reduce nightmares can be undertaken as a first task.(所有这些都表明,关注噩梦是一个不错的做法。如果噩梦是某种症状的表现,那么它们能够预示即将发生的事情。而如果噩梦是导致问题的原因,那么首先就应该采取措施来减少噩梦的发生)”以及最后一段“In the cases of depression, anxiety and so on, nightmares are both symptom and cause.(在抑郁症、焦虑症等病症中,噩梦既是症状也是病因)”可推知,很难判断噩梦是否是一种症状,因为它们既是症状又是病因。故选B。
【15题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“But the study of nightmares remains an underexplored field of medicine. That needs to change.(但关于噩梦的研究在医学领域仍是一个尚未得到充分探索的领域。这种情况亟待改变)”可推知,作者认为当前噩梦的研究不太完善。故选D。
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
E 17. B 18. D 19. F 20. C
根据上文“Parents are the number one influence in their children’s lives.(父母对孩子的成长有着至关重要的影响,是孩子人生中最重要的引导者)”以及后文“Yet in daily life, many parents often doubt their own influence — they worry that friends, media or teachers have a bigger impact on their kids’ choices.(然而在日常生活中,许多家长常常对自己的影响力产生怀疑——他们担心朋友、媒体或老师对孩子的选择有着更大的影响)”可知,前文提到父母是孩子最重要的影响者,后文说父母常怀疑自身影响力,E选项“很多父母未充分意识到自身影响力的强大”衔接上下文,形成转折逻辑。故选E。
根据上文“The stronger the relationship between parents and their children, the more the child will not want to disappoint their parents.(父母与子女之间的关系越亲密,孩子就越不想让父母失望)”以及后文“For example, eating dinner together as a family regularly can significantly reduce the chance of children getting involved in risky behavior.(例如,家庭成员定期一起用餐能够显著降低孩子参与危险行为的可能性)”可知,前文讲父母与孩子的联结越强,孩子越不愿让父母失望,后文举了家庭聚餐减少孩子危险行为的例子,B选项“这种联结是孩子天然的保护”承上启下,解释联结的作用。故选B。
根据上文“Boundaries are equally important. They are set when parents make clear family rules, such as “no alcohol or other drugs for teens”.(界限同样重要。当父母明确制定家庭规则时就会设定这些界限,比如“青少年不得饮酒或使用其他毒品”)”以及后文“If parents clearly explain the reasons for the rules and the consequences of breaking them, only a small percentage of teens will dare to try risky things. What’s more, once the rules are broken, parents should follow through with the agreed consequences to show that rules are not empty words.(如果父母能清楚地说明这些规则的原因以及违反规则的后果,那么只有极少数的青少年会敢于尝试冒险行为。此外,一旦规则被违反,父母就应该按照事先商定的后果执行,以表明规则并非空洞的口号)”可知,前文提到设定边界需明确家庭规则及违规后果,后文强调规则被打破后要落实后果,D选项“规则被打破时应执行后果”呼应“后果”这一核心,衔接紧密。故选D。
【19题详解】
根据后文“A recent study points out that the most effective parenting style to protect youth is warm and attentive with follow-through” This means parents should stay connected with their kids’ lives: when children go out, ask questions like “Where are you going?”, “Who will you be with?”, “What will you do?” and “When will you be home?”.(最近的一项研究指出,最能保护青少年健康成长的育儿方式是“温暖且细心,并且能持续跟进”。
根据上文“A recent study points out that the most effective parenting style to protect youth is warm and attentive with follow-through” This means parents should stay connected with their kids’ lives: when children go out, ask questions like “Where are you going?”, “Who will you be with?”, “What will you do?” and “When will you be home?”.(最近的一项研究指出,最能保护青少年健康成长的育儿方式是“温暖且细心,并且能持续跟进”。

注意:
1. 续写词数应为150个左右;

One day, when I picked up my daughter, she asked me to visit a park.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The bond I felt with my daughter in the park made me relaxed.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One day, when I picked up my daughter, she asked me to visit a park. I hesitated at first — old habits made me want to rush home and “be productive,” even if I had no work to do at all. She softly begged, “Just 10 minutes, Mom?” I nodded. At the park, she ran to a patch of dandelions, holding one up and yelling, “Blow with me!” As we watched it float away, she smiled and danced happily before me. For those minutes, I forgot about job loss and guilt; I only felt her warmth beside me and the warm wind blowing on my face.
The bond I felt with my daughter in the park made me relaxed. I started waking up not to “be busy”. I walked to the market slowly, chatting with the fruit seller instead of checking my phone. I realized “being needed” didn’t have to come from work; it came from playing my daughter in at night and listening to her stories. Gradually, the guilt faded. When I later looked for a new job, I promised myself: this time, work would fit into life, not the other way around.
