This was my fifth trip to China, but my visit to the Jiabang Terraces (梯田) in Guizhou Province was like no other. As I stepped onto a wooden runway built right in the middle of the terraced fields, I was immediately transported into a world filled with rich culture and creativity.
Miao ethnic villagers, wearing their most beautiful traditional clothes, were ready to present a special fashion show. Their silver ornaments jingled softly as they moved, some carrying farming tools or baskets with live ducklings and fish fry — symbols of thousands of years of agricultural heritage. The models walked on the runway with the terraces as a backdrop, wearing dresses decorated with Miao embroidery (刺绣), batik (蜡染), and silver elements. Surprisingly, robots and robotic dogs dressed in Miao patterns joined the show It was a perfect mix of the old and the new.
At the spectacle of the fashion show, I couldn’t help but use my phone to record every moment. “Compared to Australia, China’s history and minority cultures are incredible,” I thought. This was my first time here, and it gave me an experience I’d never forget, especially the way they celebrated agricultural activities and showed their local customs.
The fashion show, which would bring China’s traditional heritage to the 2025 World Exposition in Osaka, Japan this June, means more people around the world will witness and appreciate this unique cultural display. The handcrafted embroidery was so delicate and seeing children in colorful costumes proudly showcasing it to the audience was heartwarming.
My trip to Jiabang Terraces was truly wonderful, as its fashion show combined modern design with traditional culture. It’s inspiring to see China preserving its traditional culture and sharing them with the whole world. This trip has not only left me with unforgettable memories but also made me realize how beautifully China balances its long-standing traditions with modern progress — a journey I’ll always cherish.

C
More than a third of food grown in the U.S. goes uneaten, and that percentage has increased in the past five years. Much of that food ends up in landfills, where it decomposes (分解), creating a powerful gas that contributes to global warming. A company based in Denmark spent eight years working to bring that percentage down by helping restaurants sell food that would otherwise go to waste.
The app Too Good To Go started in Denmark in 2015. Today there are participating stores in 17 countries and more than a dozen U.S. cities including New York, Phoenix and Seattle. Several cities including Santa Barbara, Minneapolis and Atlanta just started participating this year. The company claims Los Angeles is its most successful city yet. Next, it’s headed to cities in the southeast.
MacAulay, the app’s U.S. country manager, says the cheaper price tag and the recouped (收回的) business costs are great side effects, but that’s not the main point. “The core of the why is really around reducing food waste,” he says. Because it’s such a large contributor to Co2e, which stands for the carbon dioxide equivalent (当量) of a product’s total planet-warming gas emissions.
When someone buys a “surprise bag” from the restaurant, the app adds that purchase to the consumer’s lifetime climate impact record. It displays all the carbon emissions prevented from going to waste. “In the U.S. all food loss and waste accounts for about 6% of our total greenhouse gas emissions,” says Alexandria Coari with the food waste nonprofit ReFED.
The app is especially popular among businesses that produce baked goods, since they can’t sell food that will be no longer fresh the next day. “I think in the areas where they’ve tried to expand into retail grocery, even into manufacturing, there’s still a little bit to be figured out there,” Coari says.
8. What is mainly talked about in paragraph 2?
A. The company’s chain stores.
B. The condition of American cities.
C. The operation modes of the app.
D. The promotion and application of the app.
9. Which is the original intention of developing the app?
A. To reduce business costs. B. To make shopping convenient.
C. To minimize food wastage. D. To help restaurants sell food cheaply.
10. What can we know about the consumers who buy “a surprise bag”?
A. They are cost-conscious customers.
B. Their behavior will be handsomely rewarded.
C. Their daily carbon emissions will be calculated.
D. Their contributions to the earth will be recorded.
11. What is a future goal for the app according to Coari?
A. To broaden the selection on the app. B. To develop alternatives to baked goods.
C. To make sure food is available to all. D. To advance the development of grocery.
D 9. C 10. D 11. A

As humans, we can think about what other people are thinking, and understand that their ideas might be different from ours. Scientists call this “theory of mind” — a significant part of human success. An important question is whether animals can do the same. A recent experiment suggests that bonobo apes (倭黑猩猩) may share this ability.
Bonobos are very intelligent apes. They have been taught to communicate using signs or symbols. They’re also known for being friendly, and often solve problems by working together.
Such characteristics make them perfect candidates for researchers at Johns Hopkins University to study. They came up with a clever experiment. In the experiment, scientist Luke Townrow sat across a table from a bonobo. Another scientist hid a small snack, like a grape, under one of three cups that were turned upside down on the table. The bonobo was always able to watch the snack being hidden. But half of the time, Mr. Townrow wasn’t able to see which cup the snack was hidden under.
The researchers wanted to see if the bonobos acted differently when they knew that Mr. Townrow didn’t know where the snack was hidden. Once the treat was hidden, Mr. Townrow always acted the same. He would look at the cups and say, “Hmm, where is the grape?” And he would wait for 10 seconds, giving the bonobos time to respond.
The results showed that when Mr. Townrow hadn’t seen where the snack was hidden, the bonobo pointed to the cup with the hidden treat more quickly, and much more often. The animal seemed to be able to think about what Mr. Townrow knew and understand that Mr. Townrow didn’t know something that he did.
The experiment wasn’t consummate. Some scientists have pointed out that the bonobo grew up around humans, and might not represent wild bonobos. Still, the results show that the bonobos have a “theory of mind”. They have the ability to think about what others are thinking, and can change their behavior to communicate when someone is missing important information.
12. Why are bonobos chosen for the research?
A. They can solve problems on their own. B. They are good-natured and cooperative.
C. They can communicate like humans. D. They are the most intelligent apes.
13. What did the researchers at Johns Hopkins University do in their experiment?
A. They observed how bonobos solve problems.
B. They taught bonobos to use signs or symbols.
C. They studied how bonobos think by hiding a snack.
D. They tested bonobos’ ability to understand human emotions.
14. What can be inferred about bonobos from the experiment?
A. They rely on human gestures to obtain food.
B. They respond differently based on information missing.
C. They are less cooperative than previously believed.
D. They are fascinated to analyze human intentions.
15. What does the underlined word “consummate” mean in the last paragraph?
A. Perfect. B. Straightforward. C. Dynamic. D. Suitable.
B 13. C 14. B 15. A
由文章第二段中“Bonobos are very intelligent apes. They have been taught to communicate using signs or symbols. They’ re also known for being friendly, and often solve problems by working together. (倭黑猩猩是非常聪明的猿类。它们已经被教会使用手势或符号进行交流。它们还以友好著称,并且常常通过合作来解决问题)”和第三段中“Such characteristics make them perfect candidates for researchers at Johns Hopkins University to study. (这些特点使它们成为约翰・霍普金斯大学研究人员进行研究的理想对象)”可知,倭黑猩猩被选为研究对象是因为它们天性善良且善于合作。故选B。
【13题详解】
细节理解题。由文章第三段中“They came up with a clever experiment. In the experiment, scientist Luke Townrow sat across a table from a bonobo. Another scientist hid a small snack, like a grape, under one of three cups that were turned upside down on the table. (他们想出了一个巧妙的实验。在实验中,科学家Luke Townrow坐在一只倭黑猩猩的对面。另一位科学家把一块小零食,比如一颗葡萄,藏在桌子上三个倒扣的杯子中的一个下面)”可知,约翰霍普金斯大学的研究人员通过藏零食来研究倭黑猩猩的思维。故选C。
【14题详解】
推理判断题。由文章第五段中“The results showed that when Mr. Townrow hadn’t seen where the snack was hidden, the bonobo pointed to the cup with the hidden treat more quickly, and much more often. (结果显示,当汤罗先生没有看到零食藏在哪里时,倭黑猩猩更快地指向藏有零食的杯子,而且频率也更高)”可知,倭黑猩猩会根据信息缺失的情况做出不同的反应。故选B。
【15题详解】
词句猜测题。由文章最后一段中“Some scientists have pointed out that the bonobo grew up around humans, and might not represent wild bonobos. (一些科学家指出,这只倭黑猩猩是在人类身边长大的,可能不能代表野生倭黑猩猩)”可知,这个实验并不完美,存在缺陷。因此,consummate在此处意为“完美的”,与Perfect意思相符。故选A。
The 7-38-55 rule, developed by Albert Mehrabian in 1971, shows that only 7% of meaning is communicated through words, while 38% through tone of voice and 55% through body language. ____16____ Here are some tips for applying the 7-38-55 rule in a negotiation (谈判) context:
____17____ Your body language is much more important than what you’re actually saying. If your counterpart’s body language indicates that they are about to lose their bearings, speak calmly and plainly, slowing the pace of the negotiation.
Look for differences between spoken words and nonverbal behaviors. When you’re at the negotiating table, pay attention to how your counterpart speaks and acts. ____18____ It’s also important that you make sure your own nonverbal messages are in line with what you are saying. If your facial expressions are pained and you’re keeping your contact, you are communicating your uncertainty to your counterpart no matter what you’re saying.
Learn to use different vocal tones. Mastering the use of your voice can help you become a better negotiator by improving the delivery of your debates. In the negotiating room, there are three main tones of voice: competitive, compromising, and accommodating. ____19____
____20____ Tap into your listening skills, assess how your counterpart is feeling, and change your nonverbal communication in response. When debating the main points in a negotiation, you should try to change your nonverbal behaviors based on the messages you are receiving from your counterpart. Even if your arguments themselves don’t change, changing your nonverbal messaging can be effective.
A. Observe your counterpart’s body language.
B. Adjust your own nonverbal communication.
C. Communicate non-verbally with your counterpart.
D. Do you express your ideas properly to your counterpart?
E. This highlights the importance of nonverbal communication.
F. Generally speaking, a cooperative voice gently promotes partnership.
G. Does what they’re saying match the way they’re carrying themselves?
E 17. A 18. G 19. F 20. B

根据上文“The 7-38-55 rule, developed by Albert Mehrabian in 1971, shows that only 7% of meaning is communicated through words, while 38% through tone of voice and 55% through body language(由阿尔伯特・梅拉比安在 1971 年提出的 7-38-55 规则表明,只有 7% 的意思是通过语言传达的,而 38% 是通过语气,55% 是通过肢体语言传达的)”可推知,该规则强调了非语言交流(语气和肢体语言)占比很大,很重要。
根据下文“Your body language is much more important than what you’re actually saying. If your counterpart’s body language indicates that they are about to lose their bearings, speak calmly and plainly, slowing the pace of the negotiation.(你的肢体语言比你实际说的话重要得多。如果你的对手的肢体语言表明他们即将失去方向,要冷静、清楚地说话,放慢谈判的节奏)”可推知,该段主要围绕观察对手的肢体语言展开。A选项 “观察你对手的肢体语言”能够准确概括该段主旨。故选A。
根据上文“Look for differences between spoken words and nonverbal behaviors. When you’re at the negotiating table, pay attention to how your counterpart speaks and acts.(寻找言语和非语言行为之间的差异。当你在谈判桌前时,注意你对手的说话和行为方式)”以及后文 “It’s also important that you make sure your own nonverbal messages are in line with what you are saying.(确保你自己的非语言信息与你所说的话一致也很重要)”可知,此处应该是关于对手言语和行为是否一致的内容。
根据上文“Learn to use different vocal tones. Mastering the use of your voice can help you become a better negotiator by improving the delivery of your debates. In the negotiating room, there are three main tones of voice: competitive, compromising, and accommodating.(学会使用不同的语调。掌握声音的运用可以通过改进你辩论的表达方式,帮助你成为一个更好的谈判者。在谈判室里,主要有三种语调:竞争型、妥协型和包容型)”可知,此处应该是对不同语调的进一步说明。F 选项“一般来说,合作的声音会温和地促进合作关系”是对语调作用的具体阐述,与前文提到的语调相关内容相契合。故选F。
【20题详解】
根据下文“Tap into your listening skills, assess how your counterpart is feeling, and change your nonverbal communication in response. When debating the main points in a negotiation, you should try to change your nonverbal behaviors based on the messages you are receiving from your counterpart. Even if your arguments themselves don’t change, changing your nonverbal messaging can be effective.(利用你的倾听技巧,评估你对手的感受,并相应地改变你的非语言交流。当在谈判中辩论要点时,你应该根据从对手那里收到的信息,尝试改变你的非语言行为。即使你的论点本身没有改变,改变你的非语言信息也可能是有效的)”可推知,该段主要讲述要根据对手的情况调整自己的非语言交流。B选项“调整你自己的非语言交流”能够准确概括该段主旨。故选B。

第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
“Surprise!” The moment I opened the door, this cheerful shout filled my ears. My family and friends were all smiling at me. There were colorful balloons all over the house, a big poster saying “HAPPY BIRTHDAY”, and a cake with 18 candles. It was a wonderful feeling. I knew that I had finally turned eighteen, the legal age to become an adult. My parents had been planning this party for weeks, and it was perfect.
I was enjoying the party laughing heartily and chatting with everyone when I noticed my dad go into another room. Minutes later, he reappeared, holding a small box. He handed it to me and said, “Son, I’ve got a truly special gift for you. It’s something I’ve treasured for ages, and now, I believe, is the perfect moment to pass it on.” Curiously, I wondered what could possibly be inside. I carefully opened the box and discovered an old, well-worn diary. Initially, I could barely hide my disappointment. I had secretly hoped for something more thrilling, perhaps a brand-new phone or a laptop. However, as I began looking through the pages, my interest gradually increased.
The diary was filled with stories about my dad’s high school days, his friends, his dreams, and the challenges he faced. There were entries about his difficulties in studies, arguments with his parents. I could see myself in many of his stories. It was amazing to realize that my dad had gone through similar things when he was at my age.
As I read, one entry caught my attention. It was about a time when my dad was in his senior year. He had been offered a chance to go on a trip to another country with his classmates. It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, but he was worried about the cost. His parents couldn’t afford it, and he didn’t want to ask for too much money. He was really stuck in a dilemma.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
I was intensely curious to know whether he made the trip at last.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
It was inspiring to hear he was able to solve the problem on his own.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
I was intensely curious to know whether he made the trip at last. He smiled and said, “Well, son, I decided to take on a part-time job. I worked at a local grocery store after school and on weekends. It wasn’t easy, and there were times when I was really tired, but I was determined. After months of hard work, I managed to save enough money for the trip. It was one of the best experiences of my life. I began to realize that money does not come easily.” I listened attentively, imagining my dad in that situation. His words made me see him in a new light.
It was inspiring to hear he was able to solve the problem on his own. I realized that even though life is full of challenges, there are always ways to overcome them. Just like my dad, I should work hard to achieve my own dream. From that moment on, I decided to face difficulties actively. Whether it’s in my studies or future plans, I won’t quit easily. The diary, which I initially thought was a disappointing gift, turned out to be the most precious one. It connected me with my dad’s past and taught me lessons that would stay with me forever as I stepped into adulthood.

4. What did the Miao ethnic villagers use to showcase their agricultural traditions in the fashion show?
A. Modern farming machines. B. Robots and robotic dogs in Miao embroidery.
C. Hand- made embroidery cloth. D. Traditional farming tools and live animals.
5. How did the author feel about his trip to the Jiabang Terraces?
A. Tired but satisfied.
B. Excited and impressed.
C. Surprised and anxious.
D. Nervous and confused.
6. What is the main purpose of Guizhou’s village fashion show going to the 2025 Osaka Expo.?
A. To advertise more farming tools. B. To make more money from tickets.
C. To buy modern fashion designs from Japan. D. To promote China’s intangible cultural heritage.
7. What does the last paragraph mainly highlight?
A. The challenges in preserving ethnic traditions.
B. The need for more cultural exchange programs.
C. The global popularity of China’s fashion industry.
D. The author’s personal reflections and cultural admiration.

A. The company’s chain stores.
B. The condition of American cities.
C. The operation modes of the app.
D. The promotion and application of the app.
9. Which is the original intention of developing the app?
A. To reduce business costs. B. To make shopping convenient.

D
C. Dynamic. D. Suitable.

1.续写词数应为150左右;
