Here are the top 4 things to do in Tianjin that will make your visit unforgettable.
1. Try a traditional Tianjin breakfast
A day in Tianjin wouldn’t be complete without jianbing guozi. Start your morning with this delicious pancake wrapped around a Tianjin-style crispy fritter, known as guobi’er in the local dialect. Aside from jianbing, Tianjin also offers other morning delicacies such as gabacai (savory crispy pancake soup) and laodoufu (tofu pudding).
2. Taste Tianjin’s “signature snack trio” at Ancient Cultural Street
Besides jianbing, Tianjin is famous for three must-try local snacks: mahua (fried dough twists), goubuli steamed buns and erduoyan zhagao (fried rice cakes).
Mahua are twisted fried pastries made from flour with ingredients like walnuts, sesame and peanuts, available in sweet and savory flavors.
Goubuli buns got their name from a seller nicknamed “gouzi” (dog), who was too busy making buns to greet customers — hence “goubuli” (the dog doesn’t care).
Zhagao got its name from a narrow alley — Erduoyan — where it was first sold. These rice cakes symbolize promotion and success, making them a festive favorite.
Head to Ancient Cultural Street, one of the city’s best-known tourist attractions, and you can try them all in one place.
3. Create your own woodblock print in Yangliuqing
Yangliuqing woodblock printing dates back to the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and is recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage. The colorful prints, often depicting (描述) folk tales or blessings for prosperity, are celebrated for both their vivid appearance and cultural depth. As the cradle of Yangliuqing woodblock printing, the Yangliuqing Ancient Town in Tianjin offers opportunities for visitors to admire the artworks. You can even try making your own.
4. Enjoy a cross-talk show at a tea house
Want to live the authentic Tianjin lifestyle? Sip tea while enjoying a traditional cross-talk show. Cross-talk (or xiangsheng) is a kind of Chinese folk art that features witty conversations and comedy sketches. Originating in Beijing and flourishing in Tianjin, it entertains audiences with humor while reflecting simple yet profound life philosophies. In Tianjin, cross-talk is often performed in tea houses, allowing you to relax with a warm cup of tea and a handful of sunflower seeds.

Although Sam and Tom were twins, they were very different from each other when it came to everything other than their appearance. Sam had no friends, while Tom was a great friendship maker. Sam loved sweets, but Tom loved spicy food and detested sweets. Sam was Mommy’s pet and Tom was Daddy’s pet. While Sam was generous and selfless, Tom was greedy and selfish!
As Sam and Tom grew up, their father wanted to share his fortune equally between them. However, Tom did not agree and he argued that whoever proved to be stronger and cleverer would have to get a bigger share of the wealth. Sam agreed. Their father decided to organize a competition. He asked them to walk as long as they could, and return home before sunset. The wealth would be divided according to the distance covered. But they were not allowed to carry a watch to keep track of the time.
The following day, Sam and Tom set out to walk. It was a rather sunny day. Sam walked slowly and steadily, while Tom broke into a sprint (全速奔跑) as he wanted to win so much. Sam knew that it would be ideal to walk as far as possible till noon and start for home at noon as it would take the same amount of time to walk back home. Knowing this, Sam decided to turn back for home at noon so as to reach home on time.
However, Tom, with his greed to earn more wealth, did not try to return home even after mid-noon. He walked twice as long as Sam, and thought he would still be able to return home before sunset. He hurried back when he saw the sun turn orange. Unfortunately, he could not even make it half way home as the sun started to set. Slowly, it got very dark on his way and he had to drag his tired feet back home. He lost the race, only because of his greed.
24. What does the underlined word “detested” in paragraph 1 mean?
A. Disliked. B. Liked. C. Hid. D. Chose.
25. Why did Sam and Tom’s father organize the competition?
A. To test who is honest. B. To see who is more patient.
C. To improve their physical strength. D. To decide how to divide his wealth.
26. What can be learned from the text?
A. Sam was very interested in wealth.
B. Tom was smarter than Sam.
C. Tom didn’t return home before sunset.
D. Sam didn’t turn back for home after mid-noon.
27 Which of the following can sum up the story?
A. Money makes the world go round. B. Greed is the root of failure.
C. Never offer to teach fish to swim. D. The more you pay, the more you will gain.
A 25. D 26. C 27. B

根据划线词前文“Although Sam and Tom were twins, they were very different from each other when it came to everything other than their appearance. (然而,除了外表之外,他们在其他方面都大不相同)”和“Sam loved sweets, but Tom loved spicy food (Sam喜欢甜食,但Tom喜欢辛辣的食物)”可知,Sam和Tom除了外表外其他方面大不相同,Sam喜欢甜食,Tom喜欢辛辣的食物,不喜欢甜食,画线词与A项“不喜欢”意思相近,故选A。
【25题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段的“As Sam and Tom grew up, their father wanted to share his fortune equally between them. However, Tom did not agree and he argued that whoever, proved to be stronger and cleverer would have to get a bigger share of the wealth. Sam agreed. Their father decided to organize a competition. (Sam和Tom长大后,他们的父亲想把财产均分给他们。然而,Tom不同意,他争辩说,谁被证明更强壮、更聪明,谁就必须得到更多的财富。Sam同意了。他们的父亲决定组织一场比赛)”可知,Tom不同意他父亲的意见,想要得到比Sam更多的东西,因此父亲组织了比赛是为了决定如何分他的财富。故选D。
【26题详解】
细节理解题。根据最后一段的“He hurried back when he saw the sun turn orange. Unfortunately, he could not even make it half way home as the sun started to set. Slowly, it got very dark on his way and he had to drag his tired feet back home. (当他看到太阳变成橙色时,他急忙赶回来。不幸的是,当太阳开始下山时,他甚至还没走到一半回家。慢慢地,天黑了,他不得不拖着疲惫的双脚回家)”可知,Tom在日落前没有回到家,故选C。
【27题详解】
推理判断题。根据第一段的“While Sam was generous and selfless, Tom was greedy and selfish! (Sam慷慨无私,而Tom贪婪自私!)”,第二段的“However, Tom did not agree and he argued that whoever, proved to be stronger and cleverer would have to get a bigger share of the wealth. (然而,Tom不同意,他争辩说,谁被证明更强壮、更聪明,谁就必须得到更多的财富)”和最后一段内容“However, Tom, with his greed to earn more wealth, did not try to return home even after mid-noon.

Point in the direction of food on the kitchen door, and your dog will follow your guidance to eat it up. That is a skill even our closest relative in the animal kingdom cannot match.
“Chimps (黑猩猩) can perform much better than dogs on so many things,” said Brian Hare, a professor at Duke University. “But they’re not particularly good at understanding cooperative communicative gestures.” Previous studies have shown conflicting results about whether both dog and wolf puppies (幼崽) can read human gestures. So Hare’s team compared a group of young dogs with their wild cousins to test the question out.
The dog puppies were service-dogs-in-training, and most of them were raised by a nonprofit organization. Like other young puppies, they engaged in human interaction sometimes throughout the day, and they were still looked after by their mother. The young wolves, on the other hand, were separated from their mother 10 or 11 days after they were born, and they were around human handlers 24/7, living at the Wildlife Science Center.
The scientists put 44 dogs and 37 wolf puppies, all between 5 and 18 weeks old, through a series of tests and challenges. In one task, researchers placed a treat in one of two bowls, and then pointed a finger at the bowl containing the snack three times. The dog puppies were twice as likely to understand where to go even though they had experienced far less human contact, and the researchers made sure the pups were not just smelling the food. And in a separate test, the dogs were 30 times more likely to approach an unknown human and made significantly more eye contact with people than little wolves.
“The comparison of so many young dogs and wolves on a wide variety of tasks is very exciting,” said Angie Johnston, a researcher at Boston College, who was not involved with the new work. “It’s a very ambitious study.”
28. In which aspect did the experimental animals differ?
A. Their age.
B. Their living conditions.
C The number of tests they took part in.
D. The human gestures they were about to read.
29. What can we learn from this study?
A. The dog puppies were less likely to get the treat.
B. The dog puppies were more willing to interact with people.
C. The wolf puppies weren’t as interested in the food as the dogs were.
D The wolf puppies weren’t so intelligent as dog puppies.
30. What is Angie Johnston’s attitude to the study?
A. Uncaring. B. Uncertain.
C. Supportive. D. Confused.
31. What would be the best title for the passage?
A. Reading Humans: Dog Pups Outperform Wolf Pups?
B. Chimps vs Dog Pups: Who’s the Master of Gestures?
C. Interacting with Humans: Dog Pups’ Secret to Understanding Gestures?
D. Dog Pups’ Skill: Master Eye Contact for Food?

根据第三段“The dog puppies were service-dogs-in-training, and most of them were raised by a nonprofit organization. Like other young puppies, they engaged in human interaction sometimes throughout the day, and they were still looked after by their mother. The young wolves, on the other hand, were separated from their mother 10 or 11 days after they were born, and they were around human handlers 24/7, living at the Wildlife Science Center.(这些幼犬是正在接受训练的服务犬,其中大多数是由一家非营利组织养大的。像其他幼犬一样,它们在一天中有时会与人类互动,它们仍然由它们的母亲照顾。另一方面,这些小狼在出生后10或11天就与母亲分开了,它们每天24小时都在人类饲养员的身边,生活在野生动物科学中心)”可知,实验动物在生活条件方面不同,故选B。
【29题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段“And in a separate test, the dogs were 30 times more likely to approach an unknown human and made significantly more eye contact with people than little wolves.(在另一项单独的测试中,狗接近陌生人的可能性是小狼的30倍,与人进行更多的目光接触)”可知,我们能从这项研究中了解到小狗更愿意与人互动。
根据最后一段“‘The comparison of so many young dogs and wolves on a wide variety of tasks is very exciting,’ said Angie Johnston, a researcher at Boston College, who was not involved with the new work. ‘It’s a very ambitious study.’(‘将这么多年轻的狗和狼在各种各样的任务上进行比较,这非常令人兴奋,’没有参与这项新研究的波士顿大学的研究人员Angie Johnston说,‘这是一项雄心勃勃的研究。’)”
通读全文,尤其是第二段“Previous studies have shown conflicting results about whether both dog and wolf puppies (幼崽) can read human gestures. So Hare’s team compared a group of young dogs with their wild cousins to test the question out.(之前的研究表明,关于狗和狼的幼崽是否都能读懂人类的手势,结果相互矛盾。因此,Hare的团队将一群年轻的狗和它们的野生表亲进行了比较,以验证这个问题。)”和倒数第二段“The dog puppies were twice as likely to understand where to go even though they had experienced far less human contact, and the researchers made sure the pups were not just smelling the food. And in a separate test, the dogs were 30 times more likely to approach an unknown human and made significantly more eye contact with people than little wolves.(即使与人接触少得多,幼犬知道该去哪里的可能性也要高出一倍,而且研究人员确保幼犬不仅仅是在嗅食物。在另一项单独的测试中,狗接近陌生人的可能性是小狼的30倍,与人进行更多的目光接触)”可知,本文的研究内容是对比狗崽和狼崽理解人类肢体语言的能力,得出结论小狗的表现要更好一些,本文是对A项“Reading Humans: Dog Pups Outperform Wolf Pups?(理解人类:狗的幼崽比狼的幼崽更好吗?)”提出的问题进行了回答,最适合作为本文标题。故选A。

According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the term “couch potato” first appeared in print in a December, 1979 edition of the Los Angeles Times. Since then, it has become a familiar term for a person who spends a lot of time sitting, and little time exercising. Although there does not seem to be any particular reason why the term “couch potato” is used rather than “couch tomato”, a person may become a “couch potato” because living this way is said to make you round like a potato. The term is also said to have something to do with the high-calorie food like potato chips.
People now would say “couch potato” whenever they talk about overweight and obesity (肥胖). Indeed, “couch potatoes” are believed to have heart disease risks, which can be avoided by regular exercise.
It is true that technology and modern life in general make us sick, fat, lazy and physically/mentally soft. The more time people spend using technology, particularly televisions and computers, the less time they will spend being physically active.
“Couch potato” kids are a particular concern. Media reports repeatedly claim that children today are fatter than their elder generations, but less athletically skilled, less interested in physical activities and more addicted (上瘾的) to “junk food” and technology such as televisions and computers. The message is clear: today’s children are fat because they are lazy and eat too much. Moreover, because technology is becoming more sophisticated (复杂的), children are less able to resist technology’s attraction, and are more likely to spend more time using technology, less time doing physical activities and, therefore, more likely to be fat.
32. What is the first paragraph mainly about?
A. The meaning of the “couch potato”.
B. The reason why “couch potato” is used as a term for a person.
C. The introduction of potato chips.
D. What kind of person looks like a potato.
33. The development of technology also makes us sick because ________ by using technology.
A. we spend less time doing exercise
B. we needn’t do many things by ourselves any more
C. we spend all our time watching TV and playing computer games
D. we are more likely to have heart disease risks in modern life
34. What should be particularly concerned about?
A. Kids’ study. B. Kids’ hobby. C. Kids’ health. D. Kids’ food.
35. According to the passage, what does the author suggest?
A. Scientists should stop their technology research.
B. Parents should take better care of their children.
C. Kids should be stopped from using new technology.
D. People should spend less time using technology.

根据第一段中的“Although there does not seem to be any particular reason why the term “couch potato” is used rather than “couch tomato”, a person may become a “couch potato” because living this way is said to make you round like a potato. The term is also said to have something to do with the high-calorie food like potato chips. (虽然“沙发土豆”这个词用“土豆(potato)”而不是“番茄(tomato)”似乎没有特别原因,但人们可能成为“沙发土豆”,是因为这种生活方式据说会让你像土豆一样圆。据说这个词还与薯片等高热量食物有关。)”可知,第一段主要讲述“沙发土豆”一词用于指代特定人群的原因。故选B项。
【33题详解】

【答案】Nowadays, face-scanning payment is very popular among customers, but it has both advantages and disadvantages.
As for its advantages, first, the payment can be completed quickly, thus avoiding long-time waiting in line. Second, customers don’t have to carry a mobile phone or a bank card, which makes payment more convenient. When it comes to its disadvantages, the most worrying thing is that face recognition hasn’t reached 100% accuracy, which might lead to payment risks. In addition, customers’ personal information may be revealed illegally.
Imperfect as it is, I believe with the improvement of face recognition technology, face-scanning payment will surely become more and more popular.

During my schooldays whenever I was asked to write an essay (文章) about brave people and their brave deeds, I always focused on heroes in news reports risking their lives to save others. But from that day on, I could write how my mom, in her determined way, saved our elderly neighbor.
The event that stands out in my memory happened one morning when I was only 10 years old. I was doing my homework when I heard raised voices. At first I thought nothing of it since customers in the motorcycle shop directly below our flat often became loud, but I soon realized this time it was different.
“Quick! Quick! Remove the motorcycles from the shop!” someone yelled. Then a thick burning smell filled the air. When I opened the front door of our flat to have a look outside, a thick cloud of smoke, billowing (涌出) up from the ground floor, greeted me. It hit me that the motorcycle shop had caught fire.
My mom, who had been working in the kitchen, hurried to the living room. We rushed out of the door and along the corridor (走廊) through the smoke. We were heading towards the stairway at the far end of the corridor when Mom stopped and thought for a while. She turned around and headed back the way we came. Puzzled but having no idea what she was doing, I followed her.
It became clear soon that Mom had remembered the lady in her 70s living next door to us, whom we called Jane. Mom began pounding on the door, but got no answer. As the smoke thickened around us, I could see many of our neighbors — some still in their pyjamas (睡衣) — running for safety. The thought of fear crossed my mind.
“She must have already run for safety like everyone else! Let’s rush downstairs!” I begged. But Mom refused to give up. “I know Jane’s still inside.” She said she was familiar with Jane’s daily routine and was certain she would still be sleeping. I noticed the flame (火焰) was reaching up.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
My heart raced as I watched the flames grow closer.

Luckily, some neighbors passing by stopped and offered help.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
My heart raced as I watched the flames grow closer. Despite the danger, Mom continued to pound on Jane’s door with determination. Just as despair began to settle in, we heard the faint sound of movement from inside. Jane, looking disoriented and scared, finally opened the door. Mom quickly explained the situation and urged her to follow us. Though coughing and struggling to see through the thick smoke, Mom held Jane’s hand firmly and guided us back down the corridor towards the stairway.
Luckily, some neighbors passing by stopped and offered help. They helped ensure Jane could navigate the stairs safely. Once we reached the ground floor, we were met by firefighters who swiftly took over, checking Jane’s condition and assisting her to a safer spot. Relieved and grateful, Jane thanked my mom repeatedly, tears of gratitude in her eyes. Watching Mom in action, I realized that true bravery doesn’t always make headlines; sometimes it’s found in the determined actions of those who decide not to leave someone behind.

21. According to the text, which group is the three must-try local snacks in Tianjin?

27. Which of the following can sum up the story?
A. Money makes the world go round. B. Greed is the root of failure.
C. Never offer to teach fish to swim. D. The more you pay, the more you will gain.

C. The number of tests they took part in.
D. The human gestures they were about to read.
29. What can we learn from this study?
A. The dog puppies were less likely to get the treat.
B. The dog puppies were more willing to interact with people.
C. The wolf puppies weren’t as interested in the food as the dogs were.
D. The wolf puppies weren’t so intelligent as dog puppies.

C Kids should be stopped from using new technology.
D. People should spend less time using technology.
