If you have the chance to enjoy Liang Chunlan’s paper-cuts, you will be surprised at her skills. Liang Chunlan is a member of the Chinese Folk Literature and Art Association. She began learning how to make paper-cuts when she was a little girl. “Influenced by both my mother and grandmother, I developed such an interest,” says Liang Chunlan. Liang Chunlan has been making paper-cuts for more than 30 years. She has already won many prizes for her paper-cuts. By drawing ideas from life and Shanxi’s traditional culture, she has created a special artistic style. In recent years, she has put a lot of effort (work hard) into spreading this art. She likes teaching others to make paper-cuts. Sometimes, when she eats out with her friends, she folds napkins (餐巾) and cuts paper with scissors to show her friends how to make paper-cuts. “What I did was not enough.” said Liang Chunlan. To encourage young people to learn the craft-making skills, she has provided training courses for school students to teach them how to make paper-cuts. She has also spoken to university students in Australia and other countries to introduce this traditional art. Liang has written several books to help Chinese understand the beauty of the paper-cuts. Some art schools have used her works as teaching materials. A new trend (趋势) is coming in China—“Guochao”, or “Chinachic”. According to a recent report, searches connected with “Guochao” on Baidu have risen quite a lot since last year, and reviews have risen, too. Chinachic is happening, but what is it? The word “Guochao” has appeared along with the development of the idea of “Made in China”. “China has recently seen a surge (激增) in young people’s interest in Chinese brands and products that include Chinese traditional style and culture, a trend known as Guochao,” China Daily explained the word “Guochao”. Chinachic got people’s attention in 2018. Before that, famous foreign companies ruled the world market. Many Chinese brands followed in the footsteps of these Western brands. But that year, Chinese sportswear brand LiNing changed things up. During the 2018 New York Fashion Week, LiNing introduced its Taoism-inspired Wu Dao collection (以道教为灵感的悟道系列服饰). The collection not only had a popular look, but also included traditional Chinese culture such as Chinese characters. It caught many people’s eyes at home and abroad at once. After that, Baidu Index showed that LiNing’s popularity rose sharply. Since then, LiNing has begun to meet the taste of young people. Since then, ▲, from clothing to food and drinks, mobile phones and electric cars. For example, White Rabbit, whose sweet candy brings back childhood memories for many, introduced its perfume (香水) and lip balm (唇膏). Now the “Guochao” trend is moving to the next stage. No matter how it changes, there’s one thing that won’t change: Behind this is people’s pride in the country’s development and their growing confidence in national culture. 1.What is “Guochao” according to the passage? A.Young Chinese people’s love for Western culture and brands. B.The growing role of Chinamade products in foreign countries. C.More and more foreigners’ attention to Chinese traditional style. D.The young’s interest in Chinese brands and Chinese-style products. 2.What can we infer according to para.4? A.LiNing has never used Western designs in its sportswear. B.More and more young people will buy LiNing products. C.LiNing has taken the lead in the world market of sportswear. D.Only young people like Taoism-inspired Wu Dao collection. 3.Which sentence can be put in the ▲ ? China has followed Western fashion designs in recent years, but a growing number of young people are now looking to the past for fashion ideas. In a recently published report by an online shopping platform, about 2 million hanfu clothes were sold in 2020, nearly 4 times as many as those sold in 2019. Most of the buyers are between 19 and 24 years old. But why has this traditional clothing become popular with young Chinese people? For some of them, it’s a costume for relaxation. Dafan, a 24-year-old college student, told CGTN that dressing in hanfu is a way for her to get away from the troubles of real life. Modern clothing, on the other hand, represents the identity (身份) people need to show every day. “Hanfu and modern clothing help me to show the different sides in me,” she said. Other teenagers like hanfu because of the culture behind it. They see it as a way to reconnect (再连接) with traditions. There are a number of ways to do this. If you know someone has something, you can ask for it with a polite question. If you don’t know, it’s possible to ask for something with a yes or no question. Be careful not to use the direct expressions. In other words, don’t say “Give me that”, but ask kindly as the following examples, “Do you have a pen I could borrow?” “Is there any wine?” “Did you buy any bread?” If you know or see someone has something, ask a polite question with “could”, “may” or “might”. It’s also possible to use “can” in some special situations. In the past, “can” was not used when people asked for something, but meant ability. In the UK, people mainly use “Can you lend me…?” or “Can I have…?” In the US, this is still considered to be wrong and “May I have…?” is preferred. It’s common to use “Could you lend/hand/give…?” You can also use “May/Can I borrow…?” “Could/Can you lend me…?” “May I have…?” “Could you hand/give me…?” Do not begin a sentence with “please”, but you can add “please” at the end of the sentence to be polite. 1.What can we ask if we know someone has something? A.A direct question. B.A no question. C.A yes question. D.A polite question. 2.What didn’t people say when they wanted something politely in the past? A.Can I use your dictionary? B.Could you lend me your bike? C.May I try your computer now? D.Might I take your car today? 3.Which of the following is a correct polite expression according to the passage? A.Do you give me any milk, please? B.Please could you lend me your ruler? C.May I have some tea, please? D.Please could you hand me a knife? 4.What’s the main idea of the passage? A.How to express or ask politely. B.What to do when we are polite. C.How to describe our ideas. D.What to do with our language problems. 5.Which of the following best shows the structure of the passage? A. B. C. D. 【答案】1.D 2.A 3.C 4.A 5.A 【导语】本文主要介绍如何礼貌地问或索要东西。 1.细节理解题。根据“If you know someone has something, you can ask for it with a polite question.”可知,如果知道某人有某物,可以用礼貌的问题来询问。故选D。 2.推理判断题。根据“In the past, ‘can’ was not used when people asked for something, but meant ability. ”可知,在过去,can不是用来索要某物,而是用来表示能力,因此,人们不会用 “Can I use your dictionary?”。故选A。 3.推理判断题。根据第三段第一句 “If you know or see someone has something, ask a polite question with ‘could’,’may’ or ‘might’”可知,礼貌的问句中使用could, may或者might, 排除A项;根据最后一段最后一句中 “but you can add ‘please’ at the end of the sentence to be polite. ”可知,在句子的末尾用please表示礼貌,排除B和D选项。C选项“May I try your computer now?”表述礼貌。故选 C。 4.主旨大意题。根据第一段 “Every English learner needs to know how to ask for something in English. There are a number of ways to do this. ”可知,文章主要讲述在英语中应该怎样礼貌地表达或询问。故选A。 5.篇章结构题。文章第一段是总述,引出话题,第二、三、四段分述用英语索要物品的方式。故选A。 Education is not an end, but a means to an end. In other words, we do not educate children only for the purpose of educating them. Our purpose is to fit them for life. In some modern countries it has for some time been fashionable to think that by free education for all whether rich or poor, clever or stupid—one can solve all the problems of society and build a perfect nation. But we can already see that free education for all is not enough. In such countries we find a far larger number of people with university degree. They refuse to do what they think “low” work, and, in fact, work with hands is thought to be dirty and shameful in such countries. But we have only to think a moment to understand that the work of a completely uneducated farmer is far more important than that of a professor (教授). We can live without education, but we die if we have no food. If no one cleaned our streets and took the rubbish away from our houses, we should get terrible diseases in our towns... In fact, when we say that all of us must be educated to fit us for life, it means that we must be educated in such a way that, firstly, each of us can do whatever work suited to his brains and ability and, secondly, that we can realize that all jobs are necessary to society, and that it is very bad to be ashamed of one’s work. Only such a type of education can be considered valuable to society. 1.The writer of the passage thinks that ______. A.free education won’t help to solve problems B.education can solve most of the world’s problems C.free education for all probably leads to a perfect world D.all the social problems can’t be solved by education 2.The purpose of education is ______. A.to choose officials for the country B.to build a perfect world C.to let everyone receive education D.to prepare children mainly for their future work 3.What does the underlined word “fashionable” mean? A.new B.old C.popular D.possible 4.The writer wants to show it’s true that ______. A.our society needs all kinds of jobs B.our society needs free education for all C.a farmer is more important than a professor D.work with hands is the most important 5.The passage tells us about ______ of the education. A.the means B.the system C.the value D.the type 【答案】1.D 2.D 3.C 4.A 5.C 【导语】本文作者阐述教育的目的是让孩子们能适应生活,社会需要从事各种工作的人,教育应该使每个人都可以做任何适合自己大脑和能力的工作,并意识到所有工作对社会都是必要的,不要为自己的工作感到羞耻。这才是教育的社会价值。 1.推理判断题。根据“one can solve all the problems of society and build a perfect nation. But we can already see that free education for all is not enough.”可知,作者认为不是所有的社会问题都能通过教育来解决的。故选D。 2.推理判断题。根据“In other words, we do not educate children only for the purpose of educating them. Our purpose is to fit them for life.”可知,教育的目的是让孩子们适应生活,也就是为将来的工作做好准备。故选D。 3.词义猜测题。根据“In some modern countries it has for some time been fashionable to think that by free education for all whether rich or poor, clever or stupid—one can solve all the problems of society and build a perfect nation.”可知,这里介绍的是一些国家在一段时间内关于“免费教育”的观点,所以fashionable在这里表示“流行的”。故选C。 4.推理判断题。根据“We can live without education, but we die if we have no food. If no one cleaned our streets and took the rubbish away from our houses, we should get terrible diseases in our towns...”和“firstly, each of us can do whatever work suited to his brains and ability and, secondly, that we can realize that all jobs are necessary to society,”可知,作者认为社会需要从事各种工作的人。故选A。 5. C。 Each year many people get lost in the mountains. Losing one's way in the forest can be an uneasy and terrible experience. However, if you find you've got lost, stop at once. In many cases, you will find that following your footsteps will bring you back to the road. If not, follow these steps: Stay calm. If you get lost, panic is your greatest enemy. If you run wildly around, even for a little while you could lose your sense of direction. Try to remember how you got to your present location. Start marking. Leave markers wherever you go, so you can return back. Also, if people try to rescue(营救)you, they will look for markers. So make as many of them as you can. On every turn, try to mark the direction you are taking. You got off the road, maybe ten minutes ago, so if you retrace(折回)more than that time, you know you are on the wrong way. Stay put. Remember that if you can't retrace your steps, then it's better to just stay where you are and let the searchers find you. Sing loudly or shout for help when you hear others trying to find you. If you have a whistle (哨子), blow it. Moreover, stay in the open so they can find you easily. Do not hide in the unseen areas. Follow down a river. It can be hard to go but will often lead to a road. About ten minutes before the ringing of the New Year’s bell, people let off the fireworks to welcome the New Year. A new beginning at the Spring Festival Some of the customs are quite interesting. For example, at the Spring Festival, people will not sweep the floor, do the washing or take their rubbish out in order not to do away with their fortune. On New Year’s Eve, people like to stick the Chinese character “Happiness” upside down on doors or walls, because “upside down” in Chinese is a homophone of “coming” or “arriving”. Pasting couplets on the doors The custom of pasting couplets on the doors has a long history. In the ancient times, people hung short branches of peach trees on the doors or at the front gates to drive away the evil (邪恶的) things. Later they became peach wood boards with some Chinese characters written on them. With the invention of paper, on each of which was written a verse (韵文) line to welcome the new year to express wishes for happiness and good fortune. A family reunion dinner After putting up couplets and pictures on the doors on New Year’s Eve, the last day of the twelfth month in the Chinese lunar calendar, each family gathers for a big meal called “family reunion dinner”. People will enjoy the food. The meal is more luxurious (奢华) than usual. Dishes such as chicken, fish and bean curd are necessary. In Chinese, their pronunciations sound like “Ji”, “Yu”, and “Doufu”, with the meanings of auspiciousness (吉祥), abundance (充裕) and richness. Sons and daughters working away from home come back to join their parents. 1.What does the third paragraph mainly tell us about couplets? A.The materials used to make them. But the strawberry brought the red. The ABPA(阿宾顿商业会)worked together for the last couple of months to bring back the strawberry festival. The members decided to hold this event with the welcoming of the Summer Solstice(夏至). The festival came alive again with the vendors(摊贩), games, and races all through the downtown. It started with a race for the kids. Children practised running before the race began, giving them many chances to come in first place. Dressed in a strawberry suit, Miss Strawberry, aka Gerrie Carey, president of Clarks, greeted the kids and took pictures with them. The kids got to draw strawberries on the pavements(人行道). They also played with water balloons. Local businessmen sold their strawberry treats, including strawberries and strawberry pies. Opened two months ago, Paul and Emily Bobensky, the owners of Lacka Lemonade, sold their fresh lemonade(柠檬味汽水). They normally go to the Farmer Markets. It was the first time they had appeared at the strawberry festival. Even though it's a strawberry festival, there was a pie-eating contest including blueberry pies. People gathered around and cheered as five men raced to finish pies without using their hands. The ABPA helped with the payment of the parking for the day. But here are some fresh ideas on the best ways to learn a new language. Keep some of these in mind and you’ll learn better. Make new friends: If there’s a community(团体) of people who speak the language you want to learn in your city, start attending events! Friendship is one of the best ways to learn a foreign language, and the easiest way to get comfortable with the slang(俚语) and intonation(语调). You, can freely chat with your friends and slowly build a foundation(基础) of the language. The great part about making friends is that you will be able to practice freely without feeling shy! Watch a movie: For the people who want to learn a language in the comfort of their own home, put on a foreign movie in another language without subtitles. This is one of the best ways to learn a foreign language, and you can also get a greater sense of that language’s culture! If you don’t know enough of the language to turn the subtitles off, keep a list of new words you hear and what you think they mean. Look them up later. Teach yourself: Take a little bit of time every day to write out a sentence you would like to know how to say in the new language. Look up each word and try to make the sentence yourself. If you have a language partner, have him/her check your sentence when you meet up. Making small goals every day will keep you moving on in the language learning! Just like teaching yourself new sentences and passages, this organized routine(惯例) will make it easier to learn words and you’ll begin to be able to group things together. 1.What does the underlined word “subtitles” in Paragraph 3 mean? Modern clothing, on the other hand, represents the identity (身份) people need to show every day. “Hanfu and modern clothing help me to show the different sides in me,” she said. A.the means B.the system C.the value D.the type Each year many people get lost in the mountains. And you will finally come back to a village or a town. 1.If you can't retrace your steps, what should you do to help the searchers find you? A.Hide in the unseen areas of the forest. I’m very glad to tell you something about how I study English. First, I think an interest in English is very important. When I was in Grade One, we had a new subject—English. It was fresh for me. I was interested in it, so I worked hard at it. Soon we had an English exam and I got a very good mark. How happy I was! After that, I learned English harder and harder. Our English teacher often teaches us English songs. The songs sound nice. I often think how interesting English is! Second, I think English is a foreign language. I should learn it well in the following ways: Listen to the teacher carefully, speak bravely, read aloud and have a good vocabulary (词汇) . Then practice again and again, never be tired. Besides this, I often read English stories, jokes and easy novels. From these I know English is not only interesting, but also useful. They help me understand a lot of things. So to do more reading is an important way to learn English well. And I also do some exercises from our class magazines, and I often write English diaries. English has become a close friend of mine.
