(24-25九年级上·吉林松原·期中)Wearing a white blouse, Ai-Da studies her subject (绘画题材) and puts pencil to paper. She looks like any artist at work. However, the “beep... beep.... beep” noise from her arm gives her away. Ai-Da is, in fact, a robot.
Ai-Da has been described as the world’s “first AI robot artist”. She takes her name from Ada Lovelace, the world’s first female computer programmer. Scientists at Oxford University developed AI systems for Ai-Da. The robot has cameras in her eyeballs. After she has studied a subject, she will use her left arm to draw. Now, Ai-Da can only use a pencil for sketches (素描). The plan is for her to paint.
Ai-Da is not the first AI system to produce artworks. Since 2006, scientists have been developing software to turn photos into drawings. Last year, an artwork created using AI was sold in New York for $432,500. However, Ai-Da’s human-like appearance brings something new to the field.
In June, Ai-Da opened her first exhibition at Oxford. There were about 30 drawings by the robot. Ai-Da, standing next to her artworks, attracted many visitors.
Ai-Da’s inventor, Aidan Meller, talked about the importance of the robot. “Ai-Da brings a new voice to the art world,” he said. “AI is going to be the big thing of the 2020s. (23-24九年级上·吉林四平·期中)根据短文内容, 回答下列问题。
There are some apologetic terms (表示歉意的用语) in English. It seems that they mean the same thing. They almost do. However, what’s the difference between“Pardon?” , “I’m sorry.” , “Excuse me.” and“ What?”
Pardon?
Americans don’t really use “Pardon?” If you do, they will probably joke that you’re trying to sound pretentious (炫耀的) or joke that you’re British.
I’m sorry.
We often use “I’m sorry.” for past events. That’s to say, it is generally used to apologize for something you have already done. For example, if you step on someone’s foot on a crowded bus, you would say “I’m sorry.” or “Sorry.”
Excuse me.
This is generally a term to ask permission (允许) for something. For example, you’re walking through a crowded space and someone is in your way. You would say “Excuse me.” to ask him/her to move out of your way.
What?
Americans usually use it to ask someone to repeat himself/herself. If you want to be politer, you could say, “I’m sorry, what was that?” or “Excuse me, what did you say?” or any other such thing. Most Americans just say “What?” though.
In our daily life, we can also use these terms by mixing them up. You could, for example, ask someone to move by saying “Sorry, would you mind moving?” It’s an extra-polite way to make your request.
1.Who say “Pardon?” more often, Americans or the British?
2.Which term is used for future events according to the passage?
3.When do Americans usually say “What” ?
4.If you step on someone’s foot on a crowded bus, what would you say?

Six of his classmates have used their pocket money to do that. Most of them played the trick because they were afraid of the punishment. A few just didn’t want to make their parents feel angry. Teachers say that parents are to blame(负责)for kids’ buying “fathers”. “Parents are demanding(要求)too much of their children,” they say. “Junior students often cannot meet their demands. Passage 3
(24-25九年级上·吉林长春·期中)Papermaking technology (造纸术) is one of the four great inventions in ancient China. Before papermaking technology was invented, the Chinese carved or wrote words on tortoise shells (龟甲)、animal bones (骨头), bamboo slices, wooden plates, and silk. Tortoise shells, animal bones and wooden plates were too heavy to use while silk was too expensive. In the early years of the Western Han Dynasty, someone used ramie (苎麻) to produce paper, which was very rough (粗糙的) and not suitable for writing.
In the Eastern Han Dynasty, an official named Cai Lun created a sheet of paper using mulberry (桑树) and other fibers along with fishing net, old clothes, ramie, and other waste. He steamed and cooked all those materials with water, and changed them into pulp (纸浆), then poured the pulp out carefully on a fine screen and dried it into a kind of thin paper. The paper was suitable for writing and was also very cheap so it became very popular. Therefore, Cai Lun played a great part in papermaking technology.
After the Eastern Han Dynasty, papermaking technology had been gradually improved. And then bamboo and straw could also be used as the materials for making paper. Because of different materials, many kinds of paper were produced for different uses. For example, the Xuan paper made in Xuanzhou of Anhui Province belongs to the high-quality paper used for Chinese calligraphy and painting.
Papermaking technology was introduced to the Korean peninsula (半岛) and Japan in the late Sui and early Tang dynasties, and later to Arabia and other countries. During the Tang Dynasty, paper was folded and sewn into square bags to preserve the flavor of tea, while the later Song Dynasty was the first government on Earth to bring out paper-printed money.
The invention of paper provides a more convenient way for communication of information, and also plays an important role in the development of global civilization.
