Within minutes of coming out, I was taken away into another room while doctors gave my parents the difficult news: I was born missing my left hand. This news would come to define the rest of my life, but thanks to a nurse’ intervention telling my parents to treat me normally. I had a relatively normal childhood. I played sports, acted in theater, excelled (出色) in school, participated in student government and had play dates with friends.
