Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) The Blue and Rose Periods are two important periods in Picasso’s work. The Blue Period, which lasted from 1901 to 1904, was heavily influenced by the death of his friend, Casagemas. He used blue paint to express his sadness at his friend’s death. Death of Casagemas is an example of his Blue Period works. During the Rose Period, from 1904 to 1906, Picasso was interested in painting circus (马戏团) dancers.
