Cala de Algaiarens, Minorea With soft golden sand and clear water, this beach is perfect for snorkeling (浅滩潜水) and visiting underwater caves. 根据文章Cala de Algaiarens, Minorea部分的“The waves here can sometimes be huge so the beach isn’t safe for kids.”“这里的海浪有时很大,所以海滩对孩子们来说不安全。” 根据Cala Tarida, Ibiza部分的“Besides the big music festivals and the exciting nightlife, Ibiza is home to some of the most beautiful beaches; one of them is Cala Tarida.”“除了大型音乐节和令人兴奋的夜生活,Ibiza还有一些最美丽的海滩,其中之一就是Cala Tarida”可知,游客在Cala Tarida可以参加音乐节。故选A项。 根据Sotavento, Canary Islands部分的“It is blessed with strong water and winds, making it a paradise for surfers and kite flyers. ”“它得天独厚的水和风,使它成为冲浪者和风筝爱好者的天堂。”可知,Sotavento的与众不同之处在于它是个完美的冲浪和放风筝之处。故选A项。 B Whether it be a person, an animal, or even an insect, a mother’s instincts (本能) are never wrong. This idea rings true for a mother cat who acted fast and sought out help when her kittens were in trouble. This mother cat’s quick thinking may have just saved her babies. In the urban district of Izmir in western Turkey, a cat walked into a regular hospital bolding a kitten in her mouth. As the mother cat moved through the hospital, people were surprised to see such a sight, but let her pass. The mother cat asked for help, crying for a long time. She was familiar to the hospital staff, who had been leaving her food and water outside, but they were unaware that she had given birth to kittens. The mother cat was concerned for her young because they weren’t able to open their eyes. After the doctors looked at the kittens, they noticed that they were suffering from eye infections. One of the doctors recalls, “We consulted with vets (兽医) and gave medicine as described. When the kittens opened their eyes a short time later, we were excited.” Later, they were sent to an animal hospital for further care. The cats are now up for adoption and will hopefully find loving forever homes. When it comes to mother cats and kittens, kittens completely depend on mothers for the first few months of their lives. Because they are blind and almost deaf until about two or three weeks old, the mother cat must protect them from any threat or danger. Without the mother cat’s help, the kittens may not make it to adulthood. As shown by the mother cat in Turkey, a mother’s love and protection knows no bounds. Whether the mom is a human or a cat, mothers will always look out for their babies and make sure they are safe and healthy. 4. Why did the mother cat show up in the hospital? A. To beg for food. B. To get her babies treated. C. To express thanks. D. To give birth to her babies. 5. How did the doctors help the baby cat? A. They built them a home. B. They adopted all of them. C. They operated on them immediately. D. They gave them right medicine. 6. What makes newly-born cats dependent on their mothers? A. Their physical state. B. Their eating habit. C. Their appearance. D. Their behavior. 7. What can we learn from the story? A cat has nine lives. B. One good turn deserves another. C. Love makes a difference. D. God helps those who help themselves. B 5. D 6. A 7. 根据第二段“The mother cat asked for help, crying for a long time.(母猫哭了很长时间,来寻求帮助)”以及第三段“After the doctors looked at the kittens, they noticed that they were suffering from eye infections. One of the doctors recalls, ‘We consulted with vets (兽医) and gave medicine as described.’(医生看了小猫之后,发现它们患上了眼部感染。其中一名医生回忆说:‘我们咨询了兽医,并按照描述给他们开了药。’)”可知,母猫带者刚出生不久的小猫去医院是为了让人们帮她治疗小猫的病。故选B项。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“One of the doctors recalls, ‘We consulted with vets (兽医) and gave medicine as described.’(其中一名医生回忆说:‘我们咨询了兽医,并按照描述给他们开了药。’)” 根据第四段“Because they are blind and almost deaf until about two or three weeks old, the mother cat must protect them from any threat or danger.(因为它们在两到三周大之前都是盲的,几乎是聋的,所以母猫必须保护它们不受任何威胁或危险)”可知,小猫刚出生时的身体状态让它们必须依靠猫妈妈生活。故选A项。 根据文章内容,结合最后一段“As shown by the mother cat in Turkey, a mother’s love and protection knows no bounds. Whether the mom is a human or a cat, mothers will always look out for their babies and make sure they are safe and healthy.(从土耳其的猫妈妈身上可以看出,母亲的爱和保护是无止境的。不管妈妈是人还是猫,妈妈们总是会照顾他们的孩子,确保他们的安全和健康)”可推知,这个故事中是母猫的爱让小猫活了下去,所以无论是人还是猫,他们对孩子的爱可以改变一切。故选C项。 C When you think of a new place for growing food, you might think of Mars. But one Italian family believes one possible place is right here on the Earth: the ocean. Nemo’s Garden is the world’s first underwater system of land plants. Located off the coast of Noli, Italy, it consists of several greenhouses called biospheres, each of which is attached to the seafloor. “The aim of it is to change agriculture, and add a possibility for growing produce in the ocean,” says co-founder Luca Gamberini. His father Sergio Gamberini came up with the idea by combining his two passions — diving and gardening. In 2012, the project began with planting basil (罗勒) underwater. Now Nemo’s Garden is growing strong. “Our limited number of resources can not promise sustainable (可持续的) development,” Luca says, “and we believe that underwater gives us some advantages over traditional agriculture.” Floating six to ten meters underwater, plants in Nemo’s Garden are separated from any outside pathogens (病原体). Also, the temperature of the ocean water is an ideal environment for plant life. Besides, Nemo’s Garden uses a technique that uses water-based nutrients (养分) instead of soil. “Also, there is little interaction with the underwater environment and related ecosystems, which means no harm is caused to sea creatures,” adds Luca. Everything is monitored on land through cameras and sensors, and settings can be adjusted. When it’s time to harvest, a diver will cut the vegetation, place it in bags and float them to the surface. The team at Nemo’s Garden has plans for even bigger biospheres in the future, as well as other locations. Luca believes the future of Nemo’s Garden will be mostly along the coastlines where communities could benefit from the added space it offers. 8. What does the underlined word “it” in paragraph 2 refer to? A. The greenhouse. B. The seafloor. C. Underwater system. D. Nemo’s Garden. 9. Why did Luca start the underwater system? A. To combine his two hobbies. B. To feed the growing population. C. To seek sustainable farming. D. To develop healthy ways of life. 10. What’s the main idea of paragraph 5? A. The advantages of Nemo’s Garden. B. The construction of Nemo’s Garden. C. The structure of Nemo’s Garden. D. The techniques used in Nemo’s Garden. 11. Where is the text most probably taken from? A. A research paper. B. A science magazine. C. A journal entry. D. A science fiction. D 9. C 10. A 11. 根据划线词前面的内容“Nemo’s Garden is the world’s first underwater system of land plants. (Nemo’s Garden是世界上第一个水下陆地植物系统。)”以及“Located off the coast of Noli, Italy,(它位于意大利诺利海岸,)”可知,此处划线词it指代的是前文的Nemo’s Garden。 根据第四段中““Our limited number of resources cannot promise sustainable (可持续的) development,” Luca says, “and we believe that underwater gives us some advantages over traditional agriculture.”(“我们有限的资源无法保证可持续的发展,”卢卡说,“我们相信,与传统农业相比,水下农业给了我们一些优势。”)” 根据第五段“Floating six to ten meters underwater, plants in Nemo’s Garden are separated from any outside pathogens (病原体). Also, the temperature of the ocean water is an ideal environment for plant life. Besides, Nemo’s Garden uses a technique that uses water-based nutrients (养分) instead of soil.( Nemo’s Garden的植物漂浮在水下6到10米的地方,与外界的病原体隔绝。此外,海水的温度是植物生存的理想环境。此外,Nemo’s Garden采用了一种利用水基养分而不是土壤的技术。)”可知,Nemo’s Garden能够与外界的病原体隔离,以及该项目采用的是利用水基养分而不是土壤的技术,由此概括本段主要讲述的是Nemo’s Garden项目的优势。故选A。 B。 “Practice makes perfect” is a very popular expression. However, can we take this saying literally? One popular theory (理论) is that if a person practises for at least 10,000 hours, they will reach “perfection”—or, in other words, become an expert in their field. This theory was made famous by Malcolm Gladwell in his 2008 best-selling book, Outliers: The Story of Success. He gave the examples of the music group The Beatles and Microsoft co-creator Bill Gates, who clearly put in over 10,000 hours of practice before they became successful. However, Gladwell’s book has been said by many to be too simplistic and generalising. Although Gladwell’s work was largely based on research done by Anders Ericsson, Ericsson argued that 10,000 hours was just an average figure. Some people, for example, needed far fewer than 10,000 hours, and others many more. More importantly, Ericsson said that just practising a lot was not enough; the type and quality of practice were also significant. He went on to explain the importance of “deliberate practice”, which is when a person practises a specific part of a skill in depth rather than practising a skill as a whole. Deliberate practice is said to be much more effective, though more tiring. Many other studies argue that practice alone is far from enough. In fact, a more recent study from Princeton University stated that practice only accounted for up to 26% of reaching an expert level. Many other factors contribute to people becoming experts. Natural talent is an important factor, which is especially evident in sports. For instance, many baseball players in America have amazing vision that allows them to see the ball much sooner than others do. Besides, IQ, personality, attitude, and starting age are decisive factors, too. It is also important to note that becoming an expert doesn’t equal instant success. Success also relies on social factors, environmental factors, and even just being in the right place at the right time! In conclusion, practice may not make perfect, but deliberate practice has been shown to lead to significant improvement. 12. Why does the author ask a question in the first paragraph? A. To make a comparison. B. To highlight his opinion. C. To inspire a reflection. D. To give a definition. 13. What can we infer from paragraph 3? A. Gladwell’s theory is easy to understand. B. Gladwell misinterprets Ericsson’s research. C. Ericsson objects to deliberate practice. D. Ericsson believes quality outweighs number. 14. What makes many American baseball players outstanding? A. Their personality. B. Their physical talent. C. Their identity. D. Their deliberate practice. 15. Which statement will the author probably agree with? A. Attitude is everything. B. Patience determines success. C. Talent counts most. D. Practice makes a difference. C 13. B 14. B 15. 根据第一段中““Practice makes perfect” is a very popular expression. However, can we take this saying literally?(“熟能生巧”是一个非常流行的表达。然而,我们能从字面上理解这句话吗?)”可知,这篇文章讨论了“熟能生巧”的观点是我们所熟知的观点,但是否能够从字面上来理解这句话,由此引起读者思考,同时引出文章的主题。C选项“To inspire a reflection.(引起思考)”符合题意。 根据第三段中“However, Gladwell’s book has been said by many to be too simplistic and generalising. Although Gladwell’s work was largely based on research done by Anders Ericsson, Ericsson argued that 10,000 hours was just an average figure. Some people, for example, needed far fewer than 10,000 hours, and others many more.  (然而,许多人认为Gladwell的书过于简单化和泛化。尽管Gladwell的研究工作主要基于Anders Ericsson的研究,但Ericsson认为,1万小时只是一个平均数字。例如,有些人需要的睡眠时间远少于1万个小时,而有些人则需要更多。)”以及“More importantly, Ericsson said that just practising a lot was not enough; the type and quality of practice were also significant. (更重要的是,Ericsson说,仅仅练习很多是不够的;实践的类型和质量也很重要。)”可知,Gladwell的研究工作主要基于Ericsson的研究,Gladwell认为如果一个人练习至少1万个小时,他们就会达到“完美”;但Ericsson所持有的观点与Gladwell研究观点是不同的,Ericsson说,仅仅练习很多是不够的;实践的类型和质量也很重要。因此Gladwell曲解了Ericsson的研究。故选B。 【14题详解】 细节理解题。根据倒数第二段中“Natural talent is an important factor, which is especially evident in sports. For instance, many baseball players in America have amazing vision that allows them to see the ball much sooner than others do. (天赋是一个重要因素,这在体育运动中尤为明显。例如,美国的许多棒球运动员有惊人的视力,使他们能比别人更快地看到球。)”可知,美国的许多棒球运动员有惊人的视力,使他们能比别人更快地看到球,这是身体天赋使许多美国棒球运动员出类拔萃。故选B。 【15题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“In conclusion, practice may not make perfect, but deliberate practice has been shown to lead to significant improvement.( 总之,练习不一定能达到完美,但是刻意的练习已经被证明能带来显著的进步。)” How to Love Your Parents Even if you think that your parents are mean at times, loving your parents is a normal and fulfilling part of life. The waves are huge and dangerous. B Whether it be a person, an animal, or even an insect, a mother’s instincts (本能) are never wrong. After the doctors looked at the kittens they noticed that they were suffering from eye infections. A. cat has nine lives. B. One good turn deserves another. C. Love makes a difference. D. God helps those who help themselves. C When you think of a new place for growing food, you might think of Mars. “Practice makes perfect” is a very popular expression. 13 What can we infer from paragraph 3? A. Gladwell’s theory is easy to understand. B. Gladwell misinterprets Ericsson’s research. C. Ericsson objects to deliberate practice. D. Ericsson believes quality outweighs number. 14. What makes many American baseball players outstanding? A. Their personality. B. Their physical talent. C. Their identity. D. Their deliberate practice. 15. Which statement will the author probably agree with? A. Attitude is everything. B. Patience determines success. C. Talent counts most. D. Practice makes a difference. How to Love Your Parents Even if you think that your parents are mean at times, loving your parents is a normal and fulfilling part of life.
