and establish your own writing schedule.You.can also use one of the many tools and
applications that can find instances of plagiarism in your writing.
Find A Note Taking System

hand, writing them down with a good old-fashioned pen might help you recall the lecture's
material better. To get the most out of your notes when reviewing or studying, figure out what
suits you in each lesson.
Meet With Your Academic Advisor On A Regular Basis
Make contact with a career center and the academic counselor at your school. In your
college years and future decisions, both your academic and career advisors may be extremely
helpful.Additionally, attend the majority of employment fairs held in your area or on your
university, whether you're looking for jobs or just want to network with recruiters.
Get To Know Your Professor
In college, networking is just as important as academics.Additionally, the majority of
teachers will be delighted to get to know you, offer their knowledge, and assist you as you
navigate the college experience.

Joining a student club or group gives you the opportunity to improve your resume and have

I remember the first time I met Roy.He was standing in the centre of a group of boys, and
he was telling a joke. When he reached the final line, everyone burst out laughing.Roy laughed
too.A loud happy laugh."Popular boy,"I thought to myself. My name is Daniel.I was from the
north of England, but my father had been offered a better job in London, and our whole family
had moved there.I was twelve and, having lost all my old friends,I felt shy and lonely at my
new school.
There were 33 students in my new class, and most people weren't very interested in a shy
new boy.Roy was one of the few people who were kind to me.He often invited me to join his
particular group, and as a result,I started getting to know people.Roy and I become good
friends. We trusted each other and we could talk about personal matters, things that were
important to us.
Five years later,Roy and I are still in the same class. But just under a year ago,Roy's
father was knocked over by a car.He died a few days later. The family had to move to a much
smaller house in order to manage financially.Roy,who had always been very close to his father,
第6页共12页
changed completely, becoming silent and moody. He had always been a clever,hard-working
student but now he seemed to lose all interest in his work.He started losing friends. These days,
Roy and I saw each other from time to time, but we were no longer close.
About three months ago,a group of us were playing football together after school.Having
left something in the cloakroom,I went inside to get it,and found Roy going through the pockets
of people's coats. In his hand he had a wallet-and I knew it wasn't his!My mouth fell open and
I just looked at him.Roy went bright red."I'll put it back right now,"he said, and he did so.I
turned round and walked out without saying a word.I really hoped that Roy would explain why
he had been stealing, but instead he started avoiding me.At the same time, small amounts of
money started disappearing from students'lockers.I wonder if the thief was Roy but decided not
to say anything to anyone.I hope it wasn't him.
Last week our school had a big fair in order to raise moncy for a charity. It was very
successful and by the end of the day,we had made about $500.Our class teacher,Mr White,
came and chatted to a group of us that included Roy,and held up a box for us to see."There's
$500 in here,"he said with a smile. But to our surprise, the next morning,we were told that the
money had been stolen.Mr White had left the box in a classroom for a few minutes, and when
he came back it had disappeared. The head teacher asked anyone who thought they might know
something about the theft to come to him.
This weekend, having thought about the situation for a while,I decided to ask Roy about
the theft, and this morning I went to see him.Roy was out,and I went upstairs to his bedroom to
wait for him.It was a cold day and his jacket was lying on the back of a chair.I put it on and put
my hands in the pockets.I could feel a lot of paper notes and I pulled them out.
It looked as if there was about $500 there.I was so surprised that I just stood there,
holding the notes in my hands. At that moment, the door swung open, and Roy walked in.

In the words of Professor Stephen Hawking, artificial intelligence will be "either the best,
or the worst thing, ever to happen to humanity".Technology of Tomorrow Forum wants to hear
your thoughts on Al.Is it our greatest human achievement so far?Or is it the biggest threat to
our existence?
Millenniumbutterfly
Thanks to Al,I've got my own super-smart personal assistant built into my phone. She
always has an immediate answer for any question I put to her,and even uses my answers to learn
more about my preferences. It used to feel like 60 percent of my time was spent researching new
restaurants. In contrast,my PA only needs a few seconds to find the right place.Every
recommendation she gives me is great since she can predict if I will like a particular restaurant.
And speaking of hanging out,I'm hoping that self-driving cars are available soon.I've been
taking driving lessons fer over a year, and still haven't got my licence.Self-driving cars can
learn to drive in the same way that we do,and can make judgements based on infoiratio.Aad
as they won't be susceptible to human error, they'll certainly be a lot safer. The only thing is that
there might be a few machine-learning problems when the first cars hit the market,so perhaps
I'd better learn to drive first.Still,I do think that developments in AI will on the whole make
doing day-to-day things a lot easier.
Popkid
The technology you're using and enjoying today is a basic form of Al which can't think
independently without programming.Of course,it could be very useful to have a more advanced
form of Al-a truly independent form of artificial intelligence, capable of exercising its own
judgement, could help us solve many of the world's problems. But have you ever thought about
the risks? After all,why would an independent form of AI need to consider the opinions and
desires of humans? We could be seen as a"small"inconvenience that's in the way of a solution
to a bigger problem. If we're lucky,AI might think we're valuable enough to keep around. If not,
it might wipe us all out!
第8页共12页
Even if that doesn't happen, there are other risks.Millenniumbutterfly, you say how great it
would be to have self-driving cars, but what about all the taxi drivers who would lose their jobs?
They would just be among the first victims of Al.Nearly every job is potentially at risk in the
long run.Even journalists are now being replaced with technology that can write basic news
reports. As it is,almost 50 per cent of US jobs are at risk from automation in the next 20 years.
The truth is that none of us is prepared for the challenges of Al.
Pink haze
Machine learning is something we have come to accept as a part of our modern world.I
believe most of the value of AI lies in its capacity to analyse and interpret vast amounts of data,
which means it can even solve problems that are too challenging for human experts.
But while super-intelligent AI could be the biggest leap forward in human history,if it goes
wrong or falls into the wrong hands,it could also be the most dangerous. However,AI is not
going to go away.We have no choice but to embrace it and regulate it.One thing I think we all
agree on,though,is that saying "My AI did it!"won't be any excuse for illegal or immoral
behaviour!
61.The passage starts with Professor Stephen Hawking's words to show that
A.artificial intelligence is the best thing ever to happen
B.artificial intelligence is the worst thing ever to happen
C.artificial is the biggest threat to our existence
D.artificial intelligence has the most influential impact on us
62.According to Millenniumbutterfly, which is NOT the benefit that the technology of AI brings
to him?
A.It can help him to find the accurate answers as quickly as possible.
B.It can help to research new restaurants with 60%of his time.
C.He can find his favorite restaurant in no time with it.
D.It can predict what he wants and cater for it.
63.Why will self-driving cars be much safer based on the passage?
A.Because self-driving cars are available in no time.
B.Because self-driving cars are driven in the same way that human-driving ones.
C.Because human-driving cars might have a few machine-learning problems when hitting the
market.
D.Because self-driving cars are not easy to make the mistakes that human drivers tend to make.
64.It can be inferred from Popkid that
A.there are advantages and disadvantages of AI to us.
B.you don't need to be worried about the risk of AI as it is useful to us
C.Taxi drivers will benefit a lot from AI in the long run.
D.Most of us have been prepared for the challenges of AI
65.What's Pink-haze's attitude towards AI?
第9页共12页
A.Useful and meaningful.
B.Wonderful but immoral.
C.Useful but potentially dangerous.
D.Illegal and immoral.
D
How long docs it take for a rose to bloom? For a boy to grow into a man?How long does it
take to prepare your favorite meal? How long does it take to build a house with a firm
foundation,or travel to your favorite destination?
My point is that good things take time. The best things in life not only take time, but are
worth waiting for. Why,then,do we yield to the temptation of instant satisfaction?A news piece
pops on our Facebook, and we only read the headline. We prefer articles that we can skim in 2
minutes but they never teach us anything new.We get annoyed when the waiter takes too long to
bring out our food or get angry when traffic keeps us for an extra 10 minutes. We give up when
it takes too long to achieve a goal or never start at all.
The best things in life take time,so train yourself to wait patiently for things to come.
Patience is something we can all work on.However, too much patience causes procrastination
and inaction which can keep you stuck in a bad place for a really long time.Passively waiting
with no plan of action is not the same thing as having the virtue of patience. When you think of
the virtue of patience, think of Aristotle's virtue theory and the golden mean...the golden mean
is the perfect midpoint between two extremes.
On one extreme is the lack of patience which causes impatience, intolerance and
rashness-on the other extreme is indifference and inaction. The perfect middle point is a virtuous
paticnt individual who knows how to wait until it is the right timet act.
So,to achieve your dreams, you have to have just the rig ainount.Lots of people have
"too much patience"or are comfortable passively waiting and end up wasting time. They are
willing to put up with long commutes, bad relationships and unfulfilling jobs just to pay the
bills...passively waiting keeps people right where they are, stuck in the status quo()
Living the life you've always imagined and achieving your dreams will require you at some
point to say"enough is enough!"In other words,to lose some patience and give yourself a push
to achieve your dreams. If you really want to change your life and achieve your dreams, you will
need to work at it.The first step may be when you finally say to yourself-enough is enough!
And the right amount of patience will move you closer.
Be patient enough with yourself so you keep going.Don't be so patient with yourself that
you put off for tomorrow what you could do today and you will achieve your goals.
66.The author asks several questions to_
A.show a boy takes a long time to grow into a man
B.highlight it may take a long time to prepare a favourite meal
C.show his interest in building a house with a firm foundation

M:Tell the class what course you took here at the college?
W:I originally wanted to major in advertising, though my parents wanted me to study medicine
But I found it was too hard because of my English. So I changed my direction.I'm glad I did
because now I have a qualification in nutritional science, and that's how I managed to get a job
with the community.
M:What exactly do you do there?
W:I make sure that the meals prepared for the elderly in the community are nutritionally
balanced. It's a very demanding job,but I like it.I spend most of my day in a laboratory but
sometimes I talk to older people to find out if the food is tasty enough.I also spend some time in
the kitchens, making sure the food is of good quality.
