阅读下面的短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
On my 35th birthday, I gave myself my first skateboard (滑板). Most of my friends and family thought the girl was crazy, but only I knew why.
Two years ago, I accidentally fell down a 12-meter waterfall and broke the pelvis (骨盆). I used to be thought of using the wheelchair for good, but one year’s professional training made it possible for me to walk miles. Therefore, physical activities became even more important in my life. So why not make it enjoyable? I’ve wanted to learn to skateboard since I was a kid, but all of my time went into dancing.
One day, I met some of the members of GRLSWIRL, a skateboarding club. This club was amazing. Even though everyone there was better than me, they were happy to help and excited to see me overcome (克服) challenges. For me, the biggest challenge was overcoming my PTSD (创伤后应激障碍). Falling is a huge part of skateboarding, but because of that accident, it was really hard for me to make it. However, when I tried again and again, I was not afraid of falling any more. The more I skateboarded, the better my body and mind felt. Although I started it for treatment, I never imagined it would open up a new world for me.
1.What happened to the writer two years ago?
2.Did the writer use to skateboard before 35 years old?
3.Why did the writer think the skateboarding club was amazing?
4.How did the writer overcome his PTSD of falling?
5.What influence did skateboard bring to the writer?

One summer morning, she was listening to birds’ joyful singing when she heard a sharp whistle (哨声) not far away. It wasn’t a friendly bird’s whistle but a whistle of a person.
“Hello, little girl,” a young man greeted cheerfully. Lucy looked up into a face of a tall young man carrying a gun. Then the young man explained that he was a scientist, who collected birds.

I have over 100 different kinds of birds from all over the United States at home.” Lucy felt surprised to hear that. “I have been looking for a heron (苍鹭) not far from here. It’s a tall, white, strange bird with long thin legs. It often lives at the top of a tall tree. Have you seen it? I will give $ 10 to the person who shows me where the white bird is.” said the man.

When I was young, I learned lots of Chinese characters (汉字). My parents bought me books with simple Chinese characters. They explained every simple character patiently and made me understand the meaning of each character. My grandfather used to teach Chinese, and he often guided me to write the Chinese character “he” which means “harmony” (和谐) in English.
When I was a little older, I often met some difficulties in my life. At home, I often disagreed with my sisters. At school, I sometimes argued with my classmate. When these thing happened, I was asked to think about the word “he” on paper. It shows that peace and harmony are the most valuable things for our Chinese nation. And we should value relationships with others. We should choose to be kind, polite and honest tã families and friends to build harmonious family and social relationships.

Once there were four beggars (乞丐). One day, they met at an old temple at night. They were very upset because none of them had much to eat.
The first said, “I only got this piece of meat today.” “I almost got nothing,” the second said, “I just picked up a potato outside the vegetable store during the day.” The third said that all he had was a small bottle of salt. The fourth beggar had not done much better, “I only got some old beans, but they aren’t very nice!”
As they sat around the fire, the beggar with only a bottle of salt had a great idea. “Let’s put all our things together and boil them. In this way, we can make a tasty dish and share it.” They all agreed. However, the first beggar thought, “I don’t want to share. I’ll just pretend to throw my meat into the pot. They’ll never know and I’ll eat my meat alone later.” So he pretended to put the meat into the pot. And at the same time the other beggars had similar ideas to his. At that time, the temple was too dark for the beggars to see what the others were doing.
Finally, one of them suggested that the dish should be ready and, in turn, each of them helped himself to it. They drank the hot water in silence, learning that selfishness (自私的) doesn’t taste all that good.

Fujian Tulou is a kind of house in the mountain areas of Fujian Province. It is known as the Ancient Oriental (东方的) Castle. Forty-six Fujian Tulou places were added to the World Heritage List (世界文化遗产名录) in 2008.
Fujian Tulou is usually a large, enclosed earthen building with thick earth walls. Although they look similar to each other, every Tulou is special. Most of the buildings, usually three to four floors, are like a circle, but some are like a rectangle (矩形). The design of Tulou follows the traditional Chinese house idea of “closed outside and open inside”. Jiqing Building, built in 1419, is the oldest circular Tulou in Yongding District, Longyan, Fujian. Hegui Building in Nanjing county is the tallest rectangular Tulou in the province. It is 21.5 meters high.
Tulou was a great place for people there to protect themselves. While Tulou means “earthen buildings” in Chinese, the buildings were made of far more than just mud (泥). People used local river stones, bamboo, sand and lime (石灰) to build them, as well. In ancient times, the buildings also included strong gates, water wells and tunnels (地道) for running away.
Tulou is like a village. Although the families who live there have their own rooms, they often get together in the central yard for ceremonies (庆典).
People who live in Tulou are mostly Hakka (客家人). And Tulou can be seen in many places. Besides Fujian Province, the buildings are also seen in Guangdong Province and Jiangxi Province. While the buildings are now open to tourists, there are still people living in them.

George is a 15-year-old middle school student. He didn’t use to be interested in English. When he started taking English seriously in Grade Nine, he noticed that his grammar was a serious problem. He couldn’t understand the sentences because of the grammar. To fix this, he created a study plan to improve his grammar.
He started by reviewing the basic grammar rules. He realized that he was poor in grammar because he never really understood the rules. For example, he would often mix up verb tenses (时态). To deal with this, he spent a few weeks just going over the basics. It was a little boring at first, but it made a great difference.
One of the turning points for him was when he began keeping a grammar diary. Whenever he made a mistake, he would write it down along with the correct usage. He remembers one time, he kept confusing the past perfect tense with the simple past. Writing out the differences and practicing sentences in his diary helped him internalize (内化) the rules.
After a long time of hard work, George has made great progress in grammar. Now he has a better understanding of English grammar. He can understand different tenses, parts of speech and sentence structures (结构) better. He can also find out and correct the mistakes easily.
①在学校,我曾经与同学争吵。 When these things happened, I was asked to think about the word “he” on paper. It shows that peace and harmony are the most valuable things for Chinese nation. And we should value (重视) relationships with others. We should choose to be kind, polite and honest with families and friends to build harmonious family and social relationships.

Have you ever met a person who is like the people I’ll mention below? They have a very poor sense (感觉) of direction. When they are on the street, they can’t tell the east from the west or the south from the north. Certainly, they can ask others for help. But I have to say that asking the way in an impolite way can “give” people a bad feeling.
One day I was stopped by a man. He asked, “Where is the Wisdom Building?” To be honest, I wasn’t very happy about what he did. Why couldn’t he ask in a more polite way? With a little bad impression made by his words, I didn’t pay much attention to the place where he wanted to go and gave him the wrong answer. Just as I walked on only a few steps, I realized that he had asked the way to my office building! But I had no time to turn back and look for him. I rushed to meet with someone at my office and I didn’t want to keep him waiting.
When I got to my office, the man I would meet with hadn’t come. 他说他迷路了。 And he might be late on the phone. About an hour later, he arrived. He was just the man who asked the way! After saying sorry to the man for what I had done, I saw the man’s face turned red and he said, “I should have said sorry to you first. That was my mistake...”
1.Where did the man want to go?
2.What did the writer think of the man on the street?
3.Did the man apologize (道歉) at last?
4.请将画线部分的英文译成中文。

Passage 1
(23-24九年级上·湖南省长沙市雅礼集团·期中)阅读下面的短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
Sloths are the slowest mammals (哺乳动物) on the earth. It takes a full minute for a slot h to move 6 feet (about 1.83 meters) across the ground. You probably couldn’t move that slowly if you tried! The sloth’s body is about 2 feet long. It has long legs, and curved claws (弯曲的爪子) that are 3 to 4 inches long. Their claws and their long legs help them climb trees and hang from tree branches (树枝). They spend almost their whole lives hanging from tree branches. The life of a sloth is not very exciting.
Sloths have a round head, small ears, a short tail, and sad- looking eyes set in a dark-colored “mask”. The shape of a sloth’s mouth makes it look like it is always smiling. It has extra bones in its neck that make it possible for it to turn its head almost all the way around. Sloths are home to other plants. Small plants grow on the sloth’s fur (毛皮), making the animals appear to be green. This green color makes it hard to see the sloths in the forest. Insects also live on the sloth’s fur. Maybe the sloths move so little that the small insects don’t even know they are animals.
Giant sloths which have the size of elephants once lived in many places on earth, including North America. Today, they can only be found in the tropical (热带的) forests of Central and South America. They eat leaves and berries. A sloth can stick its tongue out 12 inches. Maybe they developed this skill so they wouldn’t have to move to reach the leaves and berries around their resting place. However, many tropical forests are disappearing, along with the sloths that live there. It would be a sad thing if these fascinating little animals disappear.
1.How long does it take for a sloth to move 6 feet across the ground?
2.What can sloths do with their long legs and curved claws?
3.Can the sloths be easily seen in the forest?
4.Where does the Giant sloths live today?
5.What can people do to prevent sloths from disappearing?

阅读下面的短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
