My mother is a strict parent and I had to earn my pocket money by doing housework around the house. One day, my mother drove me to the bike shop to get a tire fixed-and there it was in the window; white, shiny, and decorated with beautiful flowers. It was so special and I knew I had to have the basket. "It's beautiful," my mother said when I pointed it out to her. "Mom, please, can I get it? I'll do more housework for as long as you say, but I need that basket. I really love it..." "You know, "she said gently," If you save up, you could buy this yourself." "By the time I make enough, it'll be gone!" "I'll buy the basket for you, but you have to work for it," she said. My mother bought the beautiful basket and put it safely in some secret place I couldn't find. Each week I eagerly counted my growing income. And then, weeks later, I jumped for joy. Oh, happy day! I made it! I finally had the exact amount we'd agreed upon. Days later, the unthinkable thing happened. A neighbour girl appeared with the exact same basket on her shiny, new bike. The eight-year-old me cried and ran fast back home to tell my mother about this terrible news. And then came the lesson I've taken with me through my life; "Honey, it doesn't matter that the baskets look the same. Your basket is extra special, "Mom said, gently drying my hot tears. "Your basket is special because you paid for it yourself." 42.The girl's mother drove her to the bike shop to _. A.get a tire fixed B.make some money C.buy a new bike D.buy a pretty bike basket 43.The girl cried to her mother because _. A.the mother was too strict with her B.she didn't like doing the housework C.the neighbor girl had the same basket D.she didn't have the money for the basket 44.According to the passage, the basket was special because _. A.it was not only pretty but also not expensive B.it was different from the neighbour girl's basket C.the writer decorated it with beautiful flowers D.the writer got the basket through her hard work 阅读B Bioinspired Inventions There are a lot of reasons to go out in nature to look around. It makes us feel happy, helps us know about the plants and animals, and shows us how our world is put together. For some scientists, however, nature gives out something more— the ideas to improve people's life. They study bees to work out how small robots might “talk” to report the weather. They look at gecko's feet to find how to make tape. They study fruit flies to help doctors save people's lives. “ There are so many fun ways that animals have developed to solve problems, and some of them are ones we never thought of,” says Lisa Manning, a professor of the bioinspired center. There, scientists carry on studies to get ideas for inventions from other living things. Zhenyu Gan is a robot engineer in the center. He makes robots with four legs, instead of robots with wheels. To find out how legged robots could stand or walk, Gan looks to animals such as horses and mice. “The first thing we have to understand is how they move,” Gan says. “ Usually, robots with two legs like people are clumsy, just think about how a baby learns to stand and walk. But my robots have four legs, just like horses, making the robots walk or run easily and fast,” says Gan. Gan's robots have lots of uses. They can explore the moon. Hospitals use doglike robots to work with doctors. Police use legged robots to search fallen buildings for missing people. Of course, there are many ways to solve problems without looking at nature.“ These ways work, and they are easy,” says Manning. “But they may not be as useful as bioinspired inventions, and they can't work as well as animal ways when changes in nature come.” 45. According to the passage, some scientists study nature to _______. A. grow some plants B. keep animals safe C. change the weather D. make our life better 46. The word “clumsy” in Paragraph 5 means _______. A. quick to give help B. ready to face changes C. difficult to move freely D. dangerous to work with 47. What can we learn from the passage? A. Bioinspired inventions can help save people's lives. B. Lots of people will work with animals in the future. C. Robots with wheels have a lot of uses in our daily life. D. Scientists can use gecko's feet to make new medicine. 48. What is the purpose of writing this passage? A. To introduce changes of bioinspired ideas. B. To tell us the difficulties of studying animals. C. To show us how animal ways help in our lives. D. To find out different reasons to look at nature. 阅读C Homegrown produce You don't need lots of space to grow produce. You can grow it in a pot or in a window box. It's just as good and just as fresh. You don't have to wait for it to come on a boat or a plane for a long time. You can just go to your gardens and pick a load of fresh peppers or tomatoes anytime Think about what you can do with your homegrown produce. You can roast it or toast it. You can bake it or put it in a pie. Anyway, you can cook it in any way you like. Homegrown produce is fresh! Eating fresh produce is very important. You and your family can eat the green produce that you grow in the garden. That is good for your health. But how do people have more fresh produce to eat? Some people like a program called Plant a Row. Here is how this program works. People in this program usually plant two or more rows of plants. They plant one row of beans for their family and they plant the other row to give to a food bank. If people don't have enough food to eat, they can go to the food bank and get some food from others for free. Nowadays, some schools join the program. Students can grow their own produce at school. They will eat the fresh food, take some home and give some food to the food bank. If your class plants a garden, you will need some useful tools. And your teacher may need to help you with the work. Take care of your garden and wait for the produce to grow. You will get more than you think. Growing fresh produce is a big job. You must wait for it to grow. But don't give up! People will thank you for helping them eat healthily. 49. If we grow produce at home, _________. A. we need to have a large farm B. we can get it in our garden anytime C. we will spend more time in cooking it D. we should take part in a special program 50 What can we learn from the passage? A. Students can grow and eat fresh produce at school B. Homegrown produce makes people eat more food C. People can buy homegrown produce from banks D. Growing fresh produce is relaxing and fun 51. What is the writer's main purpose in writing this passage? A. To tell people to eat healthily. B. To introduce a way of helping people. C. To show the benefits of homegrown produce. D. To ask more people to grow homegrown produce. 阅读D Following the crowd may not always be in a person's best interest. However, new study shows that teens who go along with their friends may become healthier as adults. Scientists have known that close friendships help improve health. People who do their own thing may experience unpleasant feelings and get sick. Those findings inspired Joseph Allen, a scientist, to look at teen behavior. Allen's group noted that experiences during teen years might influence adult health. Scientists interviewed 171 teens every year for five years starting at the age of 13. These teens became the focal(中心的)teens in the study. The teens were asked about both positive and negative aspects of friendship. The scientists also spoke to their closest friends. They asked the friends how likely the focal person was to follow the crowd, go along with the friends or keep on doing his or her own thing. The same 171 people were interviewed again as adults, at ages 25, 26 and 27. This time, the questions surveyed each person's overall health. The scientists found a correlation between a teen's behavior and adult health. Firstly, teens who had close friends grew up to be the healthier adults. Secondly, teens who held back their feelings were more likely to be sick as adults than those who shared feelings with a close friend. What's more, the study found that teens who went along with what their friends wanted, instead of being independent, also were healthier in their twenties. The correlation held up(依然成立)even after the scientists included other possible influences on health, such as weight, family income and drug use. Study showed that such other things did not explain adult health as well as teen friendships did. For those who wonder whether they should follow the crowd or not, now they have a legitimate(合理的)reason to say yes 52. Scientists asked the focal teens __________. A. if they experienced unpleasant feelings B. if they always agreed with their friends C. about the things they kept on doing on their own D. about the positive and negative aspects of friendship 53. What can we learn from the study? A. Being independent is better than working with friends. B. Many things can explain health as well as teen friendships. C. Expressing feelings to a close friend can be good for you. D. Teenagers shouldn't follow the crowd and say yes to others. 54. What is the best title for the passage? A. Teens and Growth B. Say Yes to Teens C. Friendship and Health D. Get along with Friends 第Ⅱ卷 五、课外拓展阅读(共8分) In the past decade, bugs have become a familiar sight on dinner tables. One reason for this is they are a great source of protein. Another reason is that people are concerned about the environment. Traditional livestock farming is detrimental to the environment as it is generally unsustainable. Raising insects is much more environmentally friendly. One kilogram of insect protein needs about 10 per cent of the feed, water and land used to produce the same amount of beef. Experts say farming insects is better for the environment than raising livestock. A final reason we may have to eat insects is because of the rise in the world's population. By 2050 this is expected to be 9.8 billion up from the current 7.7 billion. The insect farming industry is growing quickly. There are hundreds of companies worldwide creating meals made from bugs. Many supermarkets around the world now stock food made from insects. There are vending machines in Tokyo, Japan where you can purchase a can of insect snacks. The menu includes dried tarantula and scorpions. However, not everyone is excited by the idea of insects as food. An Israeli insect farmer, Dror Tamir, says there is a "yuck factor" to the thought of eating insects. He said people will get used to the idea and will find insects tasty. He said: "I am convinced it will soon be widely accepted, just like eating raw fish in sushi was embraced." 完成任务:同义词连线 Synonym Match 1. decade a. accepted 2. concerned b 10 years 3. detrimental c. worried 4. current d. harmful 5. stock e. present 6. purchase f. supply 7. convinced g. buy 8. embraced h. certain 六、选做附加题(不计入总分):典范理解选择(每小题2分,共10分)。 1.
