A team from Shenzhen Bao’an High School has invented a medicine box to meet the needs of people with eye problems. So far, the medicine box has won many national prizes.
According to the school, 12 students took part in the development and design (设计) of the box. From market research, box design, to app development, the project was completed by the students with the help of their teacher, Zheng Naihao.
The idea of the medicine box came from a field visit. In September 2021, Zheng and his students visited a massage (按摩) shop near the school during their lunch break. Some workers there were blind people. After the visit, the students began to pay attention to the lives of the blind. They found blind people could only tell different medicines by touch.Sometimes it could be difficult to tell the differences between those small pills (药片). Then they decided to try designing a product to help reduce (减少) the risk of taking wrong medicines for these people.
Developing a perfect product was not easy. The team had come up with many ideas, including medicine cups. Some students even thought of using AI (人工智能), but the idea didn’t work because of too many difficulties. Later, the team held discussions for nearly three months and finally decided to develop a medicine box using speech recognition (语音识别) technology.
To solve different problems in the development process, the team members used their free time to study on the box. After more than half a year of learning and improvement, the team created the first medicine box. Now the students are working hard to improve the product and bring it to market as soon as possible.
1.Who was the medicine box designed for?
2.Did the students complete the project by themselves?
3.Where did the idea of the medicine box come from?

In the world literature, there are some famous works about love. Love is not only between lovers, but also between other people, such as parents and kids, or friends.
There is a famous Chinese poem, “Love Seeds”. It is written by the poet Wang Wei. He used red beans (豆) to express his missing for his friends. As time goes on, Chinese people have been using red beans to express a feeling of missing.
Red beans have a strong meaning in Chinese culture. Red beans are often hard and come in a heart shape. They are similar in color to that of blood and can be kept for a long time without fading (褪色). Red beans mean love and fidelity (忠诚). Men give red beans to their lovers to show their fidelity (首饰) made of red beans for a happy life.
The poet wishes his friend to collect as many red beans as possible, as the beans will remind his friend of the poet.
Instead of expressing love to others by directly saying “I love you” or “I miss you”, Chinese people like to express feelings of love in a symbolic (象征性的) way in Chinese literature. For example, poets use pears to describe the moment of goodbye.
Chinese people love to use poems to express their deep thoughts and feelings. The glamour (魅力) of Chinese culture and words is shown by several words because of this.
1.What is Love Seeds?
2.What do red beans mean in Chinese culture?
3.What does the third paragraph mainly talk about?
4.How do Chinese people express feelings in Chinese literature?
5.What’s the title for this passage?

Passage 1
(23-24九年级上·日照五莲县·期中)
Collecting things is a popular hobby. It includes coins, books, rocks, paintings and other beautiful things that bring happiness to their owners. Rocks such as beautiful stones and crystals (水晶) are things that when you see them you will feel relaxed and calm.
Then which rocks can you collect ? You can collect rocks depending on the color, shape, texture (地质) or anything that you find interesting. Many rock collectors try to collect all the related (相关) rocks from the area where they live. And others look for unusual rocks from places they visit.
But how to start rock collecting? You can start with rocks you find in your own backyard or neighborhood. Search for stream (溪流) beds where unusual rocks can be seen. Finding unusual rocks is a special thing for rock collectors. So the first place you might search for rocks is right around your home. So you might be surprised at the interesting rocks you can find right in your own backyard. Construction sites (建筑工地) can also be great places for finding unusual rocks because machines often bring rocks that are deep under the ground into sight. If you do visit a construction site, always go with an adult to make sure you stay safe.
Once you begin to collect rocks, you need some necessary tools for collecting rocks , such as a hammer (锤子), sunglasses, a watch, comfortable T-shirts and so on. Once you have prepared well, just go out and have a try.

Passage 1
(23-24九年级上·山东威海文登区·期中)
It’s hard to turn down a tasty banana. They taste good and you don’t have to wash them before eating them. However, British scientists say that the fruit may disappear by 2050. One reason for this is climate (气候) change. Scientists at the University of Exeter collected data (数据) from 27 countries and regions (地区) that produce 86 percent of the world’s bananas. They found that climate change has improved growing conditions in 21 of these countries. In the past 60 years, the average yield (平均产量) has reached 1.37 tons of bananas per hectare(每公顷).
However, if temperatures keep rising, this advantage will disappear. Ten of the countries, including India, the world’s biggest producer of bananas, will produce fewer bananas. By 2050, the fruit may died out.
Shouldn’t bananas grow more easily if it’s hotter outside? In fact, the perfect temperature for growing bananas is between 24 ℃ and 32 ℃. If the temperature gets too high, they will stop growing.
Diseases are another danger to bananas. Unlike other plants, the bananas we grow come from shoot cuttings (茎段) rather than seeds. This means that all banana plants have the same genotype (基因型). In other words, if a disease is able to kill one plant, it could kill them all. One serious disease is called Panama. Caused by fungus (真菌) in the soil, it spreads easily. It has spread across South Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Australia. If one banana plantation (种植园) suffers from the disease, it will take 30 years until it is able to grow bananas again. Scientists have yet to find a cure for this disease.
1.Why is it hard to turn down a tasty banana?
2.Why may bananas disappear by 2050?
3.Which country is the biggest producer of bananas in the world?
4.Where does the bananas we grow come from, shoot cuttings or seeds?
5.If one banana plantation suffers Panama in 2022, which year can it grow bananas again?
6.If the temperature gets too high, will bananas continue growing?

Watermelon is one of the most popular fruits in summer. It has a round or oval (椭圆形的) shape, usually with a thick green rind (外皮) on the outside. The flesh (果肉) of the watermelon can be red, pink or yellow, and it is full of juicy and sweet taste.
Watermelons are not only delicious but also very healthy. They are rich in water, which can help people keep hydrated (含水的) in hot weather. Besides, they contain vitamins like vitamin C and some minerals (矿物质).
People enjoy eating watermelons in many ways. It can be simply cut into slices and eaten directly. Some people also like to make watermelon juice or add it to fruit salads.
China is the country that eats the most watermelons in the world. It’s not because foreigners don’t like watermelons but “they can’t afford them.” Do you know why? That’s because they’re too expensive in most countries.
It’s reported that a kilo of US watermelon is about $6.91 in New York, which is about 46 yuan in China. Watermelons are also famous for being expensive in Japan and South Korea. But things are different in China. According to the FAO (联合国粮农组织), China now is the world’s largest watermelon producer and customer.
Firstly, China’s land area is large. And the weather is just right for planting watermelons. With the large output (产量), the price is naturally much lower.
Secondly, countries like the USA and Australia have a wide land, but watermelons were not introduced there as early as in China. The local people prefer other fruits that were known earlier to watermelons. So, watermelons are not as popular as other fruits.
Thirdly, according to some reports, watermelons from foreign countries may not taste good. However, in China, we seldom eat watermelons that taste bad. Why is that?
Wu Mingzhu is an 80-year-old Chinese scientist who spends her whole life on the improvement of growing better watermelons. Thanks to her hard work, we can enjoy more delicious and much cheaper watermelons.
1.What shapes can watermelons be?
2.What are the benefits (好处) of eating watermelons?
3.How do people usually eat watermelons?
4.Do foreigners like eating watermelons?
5.Why can Chinese enjoy more delicious and much cheaper watermelons?

Passage 1
(24-25九年级上·山东菏泽曹县·期中)I was born with a physical disability. Three of my fingers on my left hand are very small. It is hard for me to hold things. In my first school, the kids would laugh at me about my hand almost every day. I used to go home and tell my mom the situation and cry. My mom would meet with my teachers to try to solve it, but it didn’t help. And I had no friends. I didn’t want to go to school any more.
Then my mom’s friend suggested a new school for us. It was smaller. At first I thought the kids might laugh at me. I would pull the sleeves (袖子) of my sweater down to hide my hand. It was hard but I tried my best. When I was upset, my teachers always asked, “My boy, what’s wrong? Can I talk to you?” They helped me express myself in words instead of going away.
A few weeks later, I told the kids, “I’ve been laughed at a lot” and I showed them my hand. They asked me what happened. I told them, “was born this way.” They didn’t laugh at me and made friends with me.
I just wanted people to be kind to me and I wanted friends. I have that now. I study and play with them. When I’m having a bad day, they say, “Keep your head up and don’t give up.” I am happy that I came to the new school. I thank all the people for their kindness. With their encouragement, I can face any difficulty in life bravely now.

It was New Year’s Eve. In the morning. I heard Grandma tell Mum she needed a football for the New Year’s Eve dinner.
“A football for the dinner? What’s it for?” I wondered. “Anyway I will get one! I can do something nice for Grandma.”
I remembered my friend Joe had an old football. I went out quietly and found him. I gave him my favourite model car in exchange for his football.
I took the football home, shined it and put it on the living room table secretly. I waited in my room for Grandma to notice it.
“Mike!” Mum shouted. I ran to the living room. “Why can’t you put your things where they belong? Get the football out of here!”
“But it’s for Grandma! She said she needed a football for the New Year’s Eve dinner.” I said.
“A football for the dinner?” Mum laughed. “No, Grandma needs a fruit bowl, not a football.”
“Fruit bowl sounds like football! I have done a silly thing!” I went back to my room, embarrassed and disappointed.
Before dinner, Mum came in and asked me to meet my uncles and aunts. When I walked into the living room, Grandma was showing them a pretty fruit bowl with the old football in its centre, I was surprised.

If you spend some time in an English speaking country, you might hear the term “etiquette”. It means normal and social behavior. This may seem like a difficult word at first, but it can be very useful to understand.
Etiquette is not the same in every culture or in every situation. For example, standing very close to the person you are talking with is quite common in some Asian countries. However, if you do this in Europe, some people might feel uncomfortable. Even in China, we all know that etiquette is not the same in all situations. Perhaps we think that talking loudly in our own homes is fine, but there are other places where talking loudly is not allowed. For example, most people would agree that talking loudly in a library, a museum or a movie theater is impolite. Even if you are with your friends, it is better to keep your voice down in public places.
If we see someone breaking the rules of etiquette, we may politely give them some suggestions. One of the most polite ways is to ask someone, “Would you mind doing this?” or “Would you mind not doing that?” People don’t usually like to be criticized, so we have to be careful how we do this.
Although rules of etiquette can often be different, some rules are the same almost everywhere in the world! For example, dropping litter is almost never allowed. If you see someone you know doing this, you can ask him, “Would you mind picking it up?”
1.What does the underlined word “etiquette” probably mean?
2.What’s the main idea of Paragraph 2?
3.If your friend talks loudly in the museum, what would you say to him/her?
4.In which countries can people stand close to the person they are talking with?
5.What does the writer think of “etiquette” in the last paragraph?

Many books have been written about the art of giving. But what about the art of receiving? Sometimes receiving a gift can be difficult, especially when someone buys you a gift you don’t want.
“I remember when I was about twelve years old, my parents bought me a purple wallet,” laughs Mary. “It really made me feel embarrassed (尴尬), because to be honest, I thought the wallet was really ugly! Still, I pretended (假装) that I liked it because I knew it would make my parents happy.”
Bill agrees. “That sounds like my grandparents. A few years ago, my grandparents gave me an orange sweater for my birthday. I used to wear it every time I visited their house, but when I left their house, I took it off! Of course, this made me feel guilty (内疚的). It was a very nice thought, but my grandparents and I have different tastes! I think it’s hard to buy clothes or other personal things for people.”
To make things easier, some people would rather just give money. In some cultures, however, receiving money can make people uncomfortable. “When someone gives me money, it just makes me think they are being lazy”, says John Wilson, “In England, we have a saying: It’s the thought that counts. I prefer to receive a gift that has some thought behind it. I don’t mind if it’s something I don’t need. If someone has thought about a gift for me, it always makes me happy.”
Different people have very different thoughts on this subject! So maybe the art of receiving is even more difficult than the art of giving. What do you think?
1.How did Mary feel when she received a purple wallet?
2.When did Bill wear the orange sweater?
3.Why do some people like to give money?
4.What gift does John Wilson like?
5.If you receive a gift from your parents, but you don’t like it, what will you do?
6.What’s the passage mainly about?

A woman shows a pair of handmade-pads in Yiyuan County of east China’s Shandong Province. Red shoe-pads (鞋垫), meaning best wishes and good luck, are usually bought as gifts. Gift giving is different from culture to culture and person to person.
When giving gifts, sometimes color is important. For example, for many Chinese people around the world, red is a lucky color, and people often like to wrap gifts in this color. However, do you know that in Korea, red is a color of death? That is why you should not wrap gifts in this color if you are giving a gift to a Korean person.
What about western countries? In western countries, the color of wrapping paper is not really important. But color does matter when giving flowers, especially roses. You should not give red roses to a western person you don’t know very well because they are a symbol of love. You could give yellow roses instead as these are a symbol of friendship. You could also send pink roses as gifts to say thank you.
What other things should you remember when giving gifts to someone from a different culture? Well, one thing you should keep in mind is the person’s religion (信仰). When choosing a gift for a Muslim (回教徒的) or a Jewish friend, you should never get food including pork, or things made of pork skin. Another thing that, you should not get for Muslim person is alcohol (酒).
1.How many colors are mentioned in the passage?
2.In which country do people think red is the color of death?
3.How can we show our friendship to the western friends?
4.What is important when giving gifts in the writer’s opinion?
5.What’s the main idea of this passage?

Passage 1

Some scientists were studying sea turtles (海龟) in Costa Rica in Central America. Suddenly they found one turtle had something sticking out of its nose. It could not breathe. At first, the scientists thought it was a worm (寄生虫). But when they pulled the object out, it was a plastic (塑料) straw.
The waste created by plastic straws is unbelievable. In the United States alone, 500 million straws are thrown away every day. That’s enough straws to circle the Earth twice, or fill 125 school buses.
Plastic straws aren’t the biggest polluter of our waterways, but they can be some of the most dangerous to sea animals. Their size makes them easy for fish or birds to eat. About 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles are found with plastic in their stomachs. When these animals eat the plastic, they have a 50% mortality rate (死亡率).
Milo Cress is a boy from Vermont, America, who wanted to reduce (减少) and possibly end the use of plastic straws in restaurants. In 2011, at the age of 9, he set up the Be Straw Free project, which focuses on building awareness (意识) about plastic waste and its effect on the environment.
“I noticed that whenever I ordered a drink at a restaurant, it would usually come with a straw in it, and I don’t usually need a straw,” Milo said. He started asking the local restaurant owners to stop providing the customers with a straw unless he or she asks for one. Many of them agreed and joined the movement. By doing that, the restaurants report a reduction in the number of straws they use between 50 and 80%.
Drinking with a straw is fun. But think twice. For anyone who really likes to use a straw, there are several ways to go. The best one is trying a reusable one, which can be washed along with dishes. Bamboo, mental and glass can be used to make reusable straws. Another one is to use paper straws, which are recyclable (可回收利用的) and can be found in attractive colors and patterns. With choices available, there’s no reason to add to the plastic straw waste problem.
1.What was sticking out of the turtle’s nose?
.
2.According to paragraph 2, how many straws can circle the earth once?
3.Why did Milo set up the Be Straw Free project? (No more than 15 words)
4.What good choices are mentioned for people who really like to use straws?
5.How can you help to protect the sea animals in your daily life?

Huge Waves Destroying Arctic Ice Faster than Expected
Ice covers much of the Arctic Ocean. Some pieces of ice are huge, like moving islands. As temperatures have increased , however, some of the ice has begun to disappear. Scientists have discovered huge waves in the arctic waters.
The waves were discovered by accident in May, 2010. Scientist Aleksey Marchenko and his students set out on a trip. They wanted to study the icy waters.
The ship travelled east and stopped next to a large block of ice around 50 miles from the small island of Hopen. Marchenko prepared to lead his students out onto the ice.
“We were ready to go but when I went out, I discovered many cracks around,” he remembers.
He decided to move the ship deeper into the ice to keep safe. The farther in they went, he thought, the harder the ice would become. As they pushed forward, however, the ship experienced small waves, and then bigger ones. Soon, the waves broke up the ice around the ship into thousands of smaller pieces.
Within an hour, Marchenko and his team saw a wave that was about 13 feet high. The ship’s navigation system finally recorded the largest waves. They were more than 20 feet in height. The waves were so strong that they forced huge pieces of ice to jump up and down, breaking the ice into smaller pieces within just one hour. Scientists had never imagined that the process could happen so fast. The waves in these areas used to be small.
The speed and force of the huge waves there makes it impossible to know in advance when they are coming. That could be dangerous for navigators and local communities who are unprepared for huge waved or depend on sea ice to protect them. Wildlife like polar bears that depend on sea ice to live is also in danger.
Some scientists think people will soon see even bigger waves in icy waters. As waves break up ice, seas will be more open, waves will be stronger. There are stormy times ahead.
根据短文内容,请用完整句子回答下列问题。
1.When did Marchenko and his students discover huge waves in the arctic waters?
2.What happened to the ice around the ship when the ship moved into the ice?
3.How high were the largest waves recorded by the navigation system?
4.What animals will be in danger because of the huge waves?
5.What will people see in these icy waters?

Since the age of 5,Laura Lee has had a strange habit—she collects cardboard toilet-paper rolls(厕所卷纸筒). She didn’t know this habit would one day become a recycling movement.
In 2018,Lee set up a goal to collect 1,000 kilograms of these rolls. She was then a 16-year-old student at Nanyang Girls’ High School in Singapore. As of February 2021,she collected 860 kg. She received an Ecofriend Award from the Singapore government.
Why did she choose toilet rolls?“They are convenient to collect and also one of the purest forms of waste to recycle because they are made of only one material,” Lee told Singapore Today. “It’s more difficult to recycle pens because they are made up of too many different materials like rubber casings(橡胶外壳),metals and plastics, which require more resources to separate(分离).”
Lee went into a partnership with the waste management firm Veolia. The firm gave her money for every kilogram of toilet rolls.

In the world literature, there are some famous works about love. Love is not only between lovers, but also between other people, such as parents and kids, or friends.

Red beans have a strong meaning in Chinese culture. Red beans are often hard and come in a heart shape. They are similar in color to that of blood and can be kept for a long time without fading (褪色).

Passage 1
(24-25九年级上·山东烟台龙口市·期中)阅读下面短文,完成短文后的问题。

阅读短文,根据要求完成下面各小题。

Passage 3
(23-24九年级上·山东淄博沂源县·期中)阅读短文,根据要求回答问题。

Passage 1
(23-24九年级上·山东青岛崂山区·期中)

Passage 2
(23-24 九年级上·山东青岛市南区·期中)

Passage 3
(24-25 九年级上·山东临沂费县·期中)
She organized “toilet roll challenges” within her school and worked with cleaners to collect used toilet rolls. She gave speeches about what she was doing at local schools. She also raises awareness(意识)about different social groups through her Instagram Live series,“On A Roll”.
One big challenge Lee faces is others doubting her because of her young age.“I always have toy use my actions to prove that I’m passionate(有热情的)and know about this,” she said. She will donate the money collected to a social cause focused on community health.
