Scientists think that microplastics from ultra-processed (超加工的) foods may be building up in our brains. What they have found was showed in four papers in Brain Medicine recently, suggesting a possible connection to the rise in mental health problems like depression.
The cover of Brain Medicine shows a human brain filled with colorful microplastic particles (微粒), next to a plastic spoon. This image highlights a key finding: Human brains may contain about “a spoonful” of microplastic material. Ultra-processed foods, which now make up over 50% of energy intake in the US, contain far more microplastics than whole foods. These tiny plastic particles, less than 5 millimeters in size, can get into human brains and increase significantly in large amounts.
Studies have shown a link between eating ultra-processed foods and negative mental health. People who eat such foods have a 22% higher risk of depression, a 48% higher risk of anxiety, and a 41% higher risk of poor sleep. The new assumption is that microplastics could be the missing link in this connection. For example, a type of processed chicken has 30 times more microplastics per gram than fresh chicken breasts. Recent findings in Nature Medicine also revealed high levels of microplastics in the human brain, and these levels were three to five times higher in people with serious mental decline. Ultra-processed foods and microplastics seem to damage human brains through similar biological processes, like causing deleterious reactions and stress inside human bodies.
To study this further, researchers suggest creating a Dietary Microplastic Index (DMI) with the aim of measuring microplastic exposure from food. Another paper shows that a modern technique might be able to remove microplastic particles from the blood, but more research is needed. In conclusion, while more studies are required, it is clear that reducing ultra-processed food consumption and finding ways to remove microplastics from our bodies are important. After all, as the saying goes, “You are what you eat.”
24.How does the author introduce the topic of the text?
A.By giving examples.
B.By defining a concept.
C.By providing statistics.
D.By presenting a discovery.
25.What can we learn about microplastics from the cover of Brain Medicine?
A.They look like spoons.
B.They can be too tiny to be found.
C.They may build up in the human brain.
D.They are primarily found in whole foods.
26.What does the underlined word “deleterious” in paragraph 3 mean?
A.Vague. B.Harmful. C.Positive. D.Necessary.
27.What is DMI used to do according to the text?
A.Assess the intake of microplastics through food.
B.Measure the amount of microplastics in the blood.
C.Promote the consumption of ultra-processed foods.
D.Facilitate the removal of microplastics from the body.

What do you do when you feel anxious about an upcoming interview or angry about a friend’s unfair comment on your behaviour? You may bury your feelings in a bag of chips. But not everyone turns to unhealthy eating to regulate unpleasant emotions.
Our latest research suggests that some people actually eat healthily to do so. You might wonder what's wrong with healthy food. Surely it can’t harm you? And for most people, it is harmless. But eating healthy food can become an unhealthy obsession (痴迷) called orthorexia nervosa (健康饮食强迫症), which has also been referred to as “clean eating”.
Because healthy eating and healthy lifestyles are generally considered desirable, it can be difficult to spot when healthy eating becomes an unhealthy obsession. But an obsession with healthy eating can be hard for your mental health as well as your relationships. Mentally, sufferers may experience high levels of stress, anxiety, and guilt around food, while socially, they may become isolated — avoiding meals with others and engaging in conflicts over dietary choices.
We signed up 196 people with an interest in healthy eating through targeted Facebook advertisements and community groups focused on healthy eating, nutrition, and wellness. Data collection was conducted online using a secure survey platform. Participants completed the questions privately, with an average completion time of 20 minutes. We found that participants with orthorexic tendencies felt out of control when upset and had difficulty knowing how to regulate their emotions. They also had trouble identifying and accepting their emotional reactions.
While not everyone who eats healthily will have orthorexic tendencies, people who use obsessive and restrictive dietary rules to regulate unpleasant feelings may be at risk of developing orthorexia nervosa.
With the increased adoption of trendy diets, more and more people may decide to eat more healthily and control what they are eating. While this may all be for a good cause, we recommend that people remain aware of when their healthy obsession may become unhealthy.
28.Why is orthorexia nervosa difficult to detect?
A.Healthy eating is less noticeable.
B.Its physical harm is rarely visible.
C.Healthy habits are socially praised.
D.It develops slowly in healthy eaters.
29.What do we know about the participants in the study?
A.They were randomly selected.
B.They suffered from orthorexia nervosa.
C.They took part by answering questions.
D.They followed special diets in the study.
30.What does the author suggest regarding healthy eating?
A.Monitor its potential risks.
B.Build a more balanced diet.
C.Stick to strict dietary rules.
D.Control food intake.
31.What is the best title for the passage?
A.Trendy Diets: A New Health Guide
B.Healthy Eating: The Key to Regulate Emotion
C.Balanced Diets: For Your Mental and Physical Health
D.Orthorexia Nervosa: When Healthy Eating Becomes Harmful

Huge piles of research on diet are published annually. The most shocking of these get reported in the media. All claim to be based on the latest research and each claims to prove the last study wrong. Do scientists really not know what’s good for us, or is the news report to blame for the confusion?
Misleading media coverage plays a role, but publication bias (偏见) is one major source: studies that show surprising results are more likely to get published. “What you see published in the nightly news is the end result of a system where everyone is encouraged to come up with a positive result,” says Vinay at Oregon Science University.
One way to get around this problem is to conduct large, randomized controlled trials, which involve randomly assigning participants to different groups to control variables. But these kinds of studies are difficult to do for foods, as few would risk eating habits on chance; fewer still sustain changes long enough to benefit. Instead, nutrition scientists usually observe what people eat by asking them to fill out food diaries, and then track the health of participants over a given period of time.
In these “observational” studies, people track their diets while going about their lives. Differences between subjects in what they do outside of mealtimes can make all the difference. People who eat what is seen as an unhealthy diet — with more fast food, for instance — might have unhealthy lifestyles in other ways, such as smoking. Consequently, dietary effects are hard to set apart.
Because of these difficulties, even today’s most recommended dietary advice lacks good quality evidence. This doesn’t mean we can eat as much cake as we like. But it does suggest that within limits of common sense, one way of eating is about as good as another. While admittedly simple advice, it removes the pressure to constantly run after the latest amazing diet or fear seemingly harmful foods. Within reason, trusting your stomach is mostly fine.
32.What phenomenon is presented in paragraph 1?
A.Scientists fail to figure out truth. B.News spreads confusion on purpose.
C.Research on diet astonishes people. D.Media reports conflicting diet studies.
33.Which of the following news items suggests publication bias?
A.Chocolate unexpectedly aids weight loss. B.Calorie restriction helps to slow aging.
C.Effects of zero fat diet require further tests. D.Whole grain diet improves heart health.
34.What do paragraphs 3 and 4 mainly discuss?
A.The reliability of self-reported diet data. B.How long-term diet tracking improves health.
C.The main problems in studying dietary effects. D.How lifestyle factors affect diet research results.
35.What is the author’s suggestion for food choice?
A.Avoid potentially unhealthy foods.
B.Consume varieties of foods.
C.Count on the latest dietary advice.
D.Follow body signals sensibly.

Dark Chocolate: A Sweet Surprise for Health
You might find it hard to believe, but dark chocolate isn’t just a delicious treat; it can actually be good for your health! When eaten in proper amounts, this sweet delight offers amazing health advantages. Studies suggest regular eaters enjoy better overall health. 36
Firstly, dark chocolate helps prevent heart disease. Like green tea, it contains special substances called flavonoids (类黄酮). These act as the body’s natural protectors. 37 Research shows they begin working quickly after eating. For example, when our body processes food, or when we’re in sunlight or polluted air, harmful things form. These can damage cells and cause heart issues. Flavonoids help by lowering blood pressure, keeping our heart healthy. This may reduce heart attack risks.
38 The mood improvement lasts longer than expected. When eaten, it makes the brain produce “feel-good” chemicals, similar to the joy after exercise. Tests show it affects the brain like pleasant music does. A small piece can lift your mood during stress.
Additionally, dark chocolate protects skin. Its substances absorb certain sunlight linked to skin aging. 39 This natural protection works from inside the body. People eating it daily showed less skin dryness in a study.
However, too much brings problems. 40 A 100g bar has as many calories as a full meal. Experts suggest no more than 60 grams daily (2-3 small pieces). Combining it with fruits makes a healthier choice.
A.Let’s explore these benefits in detail.
B.They fight against harmful substances.
C.Despite its benefits, it is high in calories.
D.These substances are mainly found in cocoa beans.
E.Dark chocolate requires complex processing methods.
F.Another key benefit is its ability to improve mental well-being.
G.As a result, the skin becomes healthier and more resistant to damage.

Miss Parson was loved by us kids who lived nearby because she often shared her self-made cookies with us. We usually finished them in a second, especially when we were hungry after class. Sometimes, when we visited her or did something for her, she always gave us a surprise.
Kate and I wondered what kinds of treats she’d offer. As we walked down the street, I held an umbrella, a bag for candy, and my sister’s hand. Jackolanterns gave soft light along the street. Spider webs hung in all the windows. Parents who were dressed up like monsters(怪物) stood in doorways. After we had walked a few blocks, we were wet from head to toes, and I felt Kate was trembling with cold.
There was a light on at Miss Parson’s house, but there were no ghosts, goblins(小妖精), or Jackolanterns. We climbed up the steps and saw Miss Parson through a window. She was drinking a cup of hot tea.
“Maybe she doesn’t celebrate Halloween,” Kate said with a sigh, disappointedly.
“Well, even if she doesn’t, she usually likes it when we visit her,” I said and knocked on the door.
Miss Parson seemed surprised when she opened the door and saw our dressing.“Is today Halloween?” she asked.“I completely forgot. I am so sorry.”
Paragraph 1:
Miss Parson rushed us into her house.

【答案】24.D 25.C 26.B 27.A
根据第一段的“Scientists think that microplastics from ultra-processed (超加工的) foods may be building up in our brains. What they have found was showed in four papers in Brain Medicine recently, suggesting a possible connection to the rise in mental health problems like depression.(科学家们认为,来自超加工食品的微塑料可能正在我们的大脑中积聚。他们所发现的情况在最近发表的四篇《脑医学》论文中有所体现,这些研究结果表明,这可能与抑郁症等心理健康问题的增多存在关联)”以及下文内容可知,作者通过公布一项科学发现引入这篇文章的主题。故选D。
25.推理判断题。根据第二段的“The cover of Brain Medicine shows a human brain filled with colorful microplastic particles (微粒), next to a plastic spoon. This image highlights a key finding: Human brains may contain about “a spoonful” of microplastic material.(《脑医学》杂志的封面展示了一个布满彩色微塑料颗粒的人脑,旁边还有一把塑料勺子。这一画面突显了一个重要发现:人类大脑中可能含有大约“一勺子”的微塑料物质)”可知,从这个封面中,我们可知微塑料可能会在人的大脑中积聚起来。故选C。
26.词句猜测题。根据第三段提到的“ Ultra-processed foods and microplastics seem to damage human brains through similar biological processes(超加工食品和微塑料似乎通过类似的生物过程损害人类大脑)”,以及“like causing deleterious reactions and stress inside human bodies(比如引发对人体deleterious反应以及造成人体内部的压力)”是对“损害大脑的生物过程”的举例,故 “deleterious reactions”应与“stress(压力)”并列,指“有害的反应”。
根据最后一段“To study this further, researchers suggest creating a Dietary Microplastic Index (DMI) with the aim of measuring microplastic exposure from food.(为了进一步研究这一问题,研究人员建议创建一个“饮食微塑料指数”(DMI),旨在衡量食物中的微塑料暴露量)”可知,DMI的作用是评估通过食物摄入的微塑料量。故选A。

【答案】28.C 29.C 30.A 31.D
根据第三段中的“Because healthy eating and healthy lifestyles are generally considered desirable, it can be difficult to spot when healthy eating becomes an unhealthy obsession.(因为健康饮食和健康生活方式通常被认为是值得追求的,所以当健康饮食变成一种不健康的痴迷时,很难被发现。)”
根据第四段中的“Data collection was conducted online using a secure survey platform. Participants completed the questions privately, with an average completion time of 20 minutes.(数据收集通过安全的调查平台在线进行。参与者私下完成问卷,平均完成时间为20分钟。)”可知,研究参与者通过回答问题的方式参与研究。故选C项。
30.细节理解题。根据最后一段中的“While this may all be for a good cause, we recommend that people remain aware of when their healthy obsession may become unhealthy.(虽然这一切可能都是出于好的目的,但我们建议人们要留意自己对健康的痴迷何时可能变得不健康。)” 故选A项。
通读全文以及根据第一段“What do you do when you feel anxious about an upcoming interview or angry about a friend’s unfair comment on your behaviour? You may bury your feelings in a bag of chips. But not everyone turns to unhealthy eating to regulate unpleasant emotions.(当你因即将到来的面试感到焦虑,或是因朋友对你的行为做出不公评价而生气时,你会怎么做?
D
【答案】32.D 33.A 34.C 35.D
根据第一段中的“Huge piles of research on diet are published annually. The most shocking of these get reported in the media. All claim to be based on the latest research and each claims to prove the last study wrong.(每年都有大量关于饮食的研究发表。其中最令人震惊的那些会被媒体报道。所有研究都声称基于最新研究,且每一项都声称证明上一项研究是错误的。)”可知,媒体频繁报道最新的饮食研究,而新的研究总是与过往的研究相矛盾,由此可知,第一段介绍了媒体报道相互冲突的饮食研究这一现象。故选D项。
33.推理判断题。根据第二段中的“Misleading media coverage plays a role, but publication bias (偏见) is one major source: studies that show surprising results are more likely to get published. (误导性的媒体报道会产生影响,但发表偏倚是一个主要根源:那些得出惊人结果的研究更有可能得以发表。)”可知,媒体偏好报道带有新奇或反直觉结果的研究,结合下文的““What you see published in the nightly news is the end result of a system where everyone is encouraged to come up with a positive result,” says Vinay at Oregon Science University.(俄勒冈科技大学的维奈表示:‘你在晚间新闻中看到的那些内容,是整个体系运作的最终结果——在这个体系里,所有人都被鼓励得出积极的结果。’)” 故选A项。
根据第三段中的“One way to get around this problem is to conduct large, randomized controlled trials, which involve randomly assigning participants to different groups to control variables. But these kinds of studies are difficult to do for foods, as few would risk eating habits on chance; fewer still sustain changes long enough to benefit. (解决这一问题的方法之一是开展大规模随机对照试验,这种试验会将参与者随机分配到不同组别以控制变量。但这类研究很难在食品领域实施,因为很少有人愿意冒险让饮食习惯受随机因素影响;而能长期坚持改变饮食习惯、直至从中获益的人就更少了。)”可知,第三段主要论述了为什么严谨的大型随机实验不能用于饮食研究中,研究者转而使用观察法,而第四段中的“In these “observational” studies, people track their diets while going about their lives. Differences between subjects in what they do outside of mealtimes can make all the difference.(在这些“观察性”研究中,研究对象会在日常生活中记录自己的饮食情况。而研究对象在非用餐时间的行为差异,可能会对研究结果产生决定性影响。)”和“Consequently, dietary effects are hard to set apart.(因此,饮食的影响很难区分。)”
根据第五段中的“While admittedly simple advice, it removes the pressure to constantly run after the latest amazing diet or fear seemingly harmful foods. Within reason, trusting your stomach is mostly fine.(虽然这确实是简单的建议,但它消除了不断追求最新神奇饮食或害怕看似有害食物的压力。在合理范围内,相信自己的肠胃通常是没问题的。)”可知,作者对食物选择的建议是理性地遵循身体发出的信号。故选D项。
第二节(共5小题:每小题2. 5分, 满分12. 5分)
阅读下面短文, 从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。

56.cultural 57.is 58.from 59.locally 60.fried 61.preferences 62.modernize 63.the 64.eating 65.and
故填is。
故填from。

故填the。

Dear Andy,
How are you? I have something interesting to share with you. Last Friday, I learned to make a traditional dish from my hometown called jiaozi.
Jiaozi is a popular Chinese food, especially during festivals. It’s made of thin dough with a delicious filling inside, usually meat and vegetables. Making jiaozi was fun. First, I mixed flour and water to make the dough. Then I wrapped the filling in the dough and shaped it into a half-moon. After that, I boiled them until they were done.
I felt very happy when I saw the jiaozi made by me. It was a great experience to learn about my culture and traditions through cooking. I hope you can try it too, or maybe I can show it to you when we meet.
Yours,
Li Hua

It was raining pretty hard on Halloween, but that wasn’t going to stop my little sister Kate and me from trick or treating. We decided to start at Miss Parson’s house.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Paragraph 2:
The next morning, a hot and sweet discussion about Miss Parson and Halloween spread among us kids.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________【答案】
Miss Parson rushed us into her house. “It’s cold out there,” she said. My sister’s face was shining from the rain and Miss Parson dried her cheeks. “Thank you,” Kate said. “Trick or treat?” “Oh, right!Treats,” said Miss Parson. Then she disappeared for a moment and came back with a big smile on her face.“Open those bags wide,” she said. She dropped two boxes of cocoa (可可) into our bags. “Winter is just around the corner,” she said.“Some hot cocoa will keep you warm.” “Thank you,” we both said. “Happy Halloween!”
The next morning, a hot and sweet discussion about Miss Parson and Halloween spread among us kids. We told Mom about how Miss Parson had forgotten Halloween and about what she had given to us and the other kids.“It sounds as if nobody was very upset, even though she forgot Halloween,” said Mom. “No, we were happy,” I said.“Although she didn’t give us candy, it was kind of fun for us all to get something different for a change. I hope it will become a Halloween tradition to give out unusual treats.”
①返回:come back/return ②放置:drop/put
③分发:give out/hand out
①沮丧的:upset/depressed/frustrated
【点睛】[高分句型1] We told Mom about how Miss Parson had forgotten Halloween and about what she had given to us and the other kids.(运用了how和what引导的宾语从句)
[高分句型2]It sounds as if nobody was very upset, even though she forgot Halloween.(运用了as if引导的表语从句)

D

It was raining pretty hard on Halloween, but that wasn’t going to stop my little sister Kate and me from trick or treating. We decided to start at Miss Parson’s house.
