I considered postcards as simply a way to share travels until I came across my grandmother’s postcard album (专辑). It was a dark gray leather album, where most of the postcards had pictures that did not reflect a holiday or a travel destination. Instead, the notes were mostly invitations to a dinner party or, a walk the next day. “Why do these postcards ask you to come to tea?” I asked my grandmother. “Because this is how we communicated before we had a telephone,” she said. “I would post a postcard in the morning mail, and a friend would receive it that afternoon. Then she would post a reply that arrived in my mail the next morning.” I was surprised. Life without a phone sounded like something out of the world. Connecting by postcard seemed as unexpected as using a pigeon (鸽子). I had forgotten about my grandmother’s postcards until lockdowns (封锁) limited our trips to seeing our three granddaughters. Remembering my grandmother’s album, I bought several sets of cards and every few weeks, I’d write notes and mail them. Then one day I opened my mailbox and saw three hand-addressed envelopes. They were from my granddaughters, each thanking me for the postcards. The notes expressed their disappointment with the pandemic and described how my messages had comforted them. I had been thinking how my grandmother had accepted the telephone as a new way to keep relationships. Like her, I accepted the girls’ preferred way of communication and texted my thanks for their letters. However, even as the lock-downs end, I will continue to send them postcards because everyone enjoys receiving a real letter. 4. Why did the author’s grandmother write postcards? A. To share her travel experiences. B. To show love and care. C. To keep in touch with people. D. To kill the time. 5. What did the author think of life without a phone? A. It was unbelievable. B. It was peaceful. C. It was just as usual. D. It was attractive. 6. How did the author feel when receiving her granddaughters’ letters? A. Disappointed. B. Delighted. C. Regretful. D. Embarrassed. 7. Which one should be the title for the text? A. An Old Postcard Album B. New Ways of Communication C. Love during Lockdowns D. Attraction of Postcards C Why do some people always get lost while others navigate (导航) effortlessly? Research suggests that experience plays a bigger role than natural talent in developing a sense of direction. Scientists have studied how people find their way by observing them in virtual environments or real-life tasks. For example, subjects might be asked to point to an unseen location or imagine being somewhere else and direct a third spot. Results show wide differences: Some people are highly correct, while others seem to guess anyhow. A key factor is how you grew up. A 2020 virtual navigation test conducted by Queen Mary University of London on over 2,600 pairs of twins found that genetics (遗传学) explained only 30-40% of differences in navigation skills, while nonshared environmental factors accounted for 60-70%. Follow-up interviews showed these often included childhood experiences like cycling to school or family travel. This suggests good navigators develop through lived experience. Cultural background also matters. In Nordic countries, where orienteering (a sport connecting running and navigation) is popular, people tend to perform better. People in the countryside did better, on average, than people from cities. And those from cities with hard street arrangements such as those in the older parts of European cities outperform those from cities like Chicago, where the streets form a regular grid (棋盘), perhaps because people of grid cities don’t need to build such difficult mind pictures. To improve navigation skills, experts recommend targeted practice that strengthens both route-following and direction memory abilities. While GPS can be helpful, overusing it may weaken your natural navigation ability. Instead, observe noticeable things like buildings, bus stops, and street patterns to understand how locations connect. Doing this often helps build a clearer picture in the mind. Remember that navigation is a learnable skill — even poor navigators can improve their abilities with effort. 8. What is the finding about navigation research? A. Virtual trainings work effectively. B. Natural talent counts more. C. Real-life tasks affect significantly. D. Lived experience matters most. 9. How does the author support his opinion in paragraph 2? A. By conducting a field study. B. By giving a definition. C. By citing research findings. D. By making an assumption. 10. What does the underlined word “outperform” in paragraph 3 mean? A. Fall behind. B. Do better than. C. Match equally. D. Keep up with. 11. What tip do experts share with poor navigators? A. Follow one’s own sense of direction. B. Use GPS as much as possible. C. Draw simple maps while walking. D. Practice observing landmarks. D You forget to bring your water bottle to the airport, so you buy a plastic one and keep refilling it. Or you order takeout for dinner and save the black plastic container to pack your lunch the next day. Reuse is one of the core rules of sustainability. But should you be reusing these single-use plastics? Experts say no. Single-use plastics leach (滤出) chemicals and shed (释放) microplastics into your environment. Though studies have not directly compared single-use and reusable plastic, experts say they are more concerned about single-use plastics because of how they’re made. A single-use plastic water bottle sheds micro-and nanoplastics into your water when you refill it, and a takeout container or frozen meal tray sheds these particles into your food. Chemical exposure increases if plastic is heated, typically in a microwave, a dishwasher or even by placing hot food in a takeout container. When heat is applied, molecules move faster, meaning it could be easier for some of these particles to make its way into your food. The danger of heating your plastic also applies to reusable plastic, like baby bottles and plastic storage containers, according to Judith Enck, president of Beyond Plastics. Research found that black plastic in sushi trays, and other objects contain high levels of flame retardants (延缓剂). These poisonous chemicals have been linked to physical and mental problems. Concerns with chemicals and microplastics primarily apply to food, experts said, because you are swallowing them. Reusing single-use plastics like grocery bags is not a major concern, they added. The most important thing you should do is avoid subjecting your plastic to heat, experts agreed. “A pretty hard-and-fast rule is to never microwave plastic,” Enc k said. “And there’s also a recommendation not to put plastic into the dishwasher if it’s on a hot cycle.” If you order takeout, it’s best to transfer the food to a nonplastic dish as soon as possible, and you should use a plate when microwaving your food. 12. Why does the author list examples in the first paragraph? A. To lead in the topic. B. To prove the experts’ opinion. C. To analyse the reason. D. To introduce background information. 13. What can we learn from the research? A. Plastic bottles of good quality is encouraged to use. B. It is the chemicals in the materials that cause trouble. C. High temperature makes little difference to takeout food. D. Reusable plastic is more dangerous than single-use plastic. 14. Which situation poses the biggest threat to human’s health? A. Heating fast food in a glass bowl. B. Filling the grocery bag with meat. C. Packing cold drink with single-use plastics. D. Ordering hot soup contained in a plastic bag. 15. What is a suitable title for the text? A. Stop Using Single-use Plastics B. Reusing Single-use Plastics Is Harmful C. How to Correctly Use Single-use Plastics D. The Astonishing Fact of Single-use Plastics Having a good sense of humor makes you more enjoyable to be around. ____16____ . So it was with Mama’s soup pot. Mama’s soup was special because there was no recipe for it. It had been so since her girlhood in Italy, where she learned its secret from her grandma, who had inherited (继承) it from generation to generation. Also, it was a symbol of security. For our large immigrant family, Mama’s soup guaranteed we would never go hungry. And we could judge our economic conditions by its contents. At one time, however, Mama’s soup pot became a source of embarrassment to me, for I feared it would cost me a new friend I had made at school. Sol was an unusual pal for me because his father was a doctor and they lived in the best part of our town. Often Sol invited me to his home for dinner, where I found the food was good but tasteless, lacking the heartiness of the one served from my mom’s flame-blackened pots. Moreover, the atmosphere matched the food and everything was so formal. Sol’s mother and father were polite, but the conversation around the table was not natural, which made me a little depressed. And no one hugged! In my family, warm hugs were a constant-men, women, boys and girls-and if you didn’t kiss your mother, she demanded: “What’s the matter? You sick?” But at that time in my life, all this was an embarrassment. I had known Sol would like to eat dinner at my house, but that was the last thing I wanted. My family was so different. No other kids had such pots on their stoves, nor did they have a mama whose first action upon seeing you enter the house was to sit you down with a spoon and bowl. One day, Sol pointedly asked if he could come to my house. I had to say yes. The day Sol came over I was nervous. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ But Sol quickly finished his bowl and asked for one more. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 海南省洋浦中学2025—2026学年第一学期开学作业检测 高二年级英语试题 (试卷满分150分,考试时间120分钟) 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 做题时,先将答案标在试卷上。 How much is the shirt? Then she would post a reply that arrived in my mail the next morning.”(“因为在我们有电话之前,这就是我们交流的方式,”她说。 根据第四段中“I was surprised. Life without a phone sounded like something out of the world.(我很惊讶。 故选A项。 根据第五段中“Then one day I opened my mailbox and saw three hand addressed envelopes. They were from my granddaughters, each thanking me for the postcards. The notes expressed their disappointment with the pandemic and described how my messages had comforted them.(然后有一天,我打开邮箱,看到了三个手写地址的信封。 通读全文,根据第三段中““Because this is how we communicated before we had a telephone(因为在我们有电话之前,这就是我们交流的方式)”可知祖母时代明信片用于交流;根据第五段“The notes expressed their disappointment with the pandemic and described how my messages had comforted them.(信中表达了她们对疫情的失望,并描述了我的信息是如何安慰她们的)”可知作者寄的明信片安慰了孙女们;根据最后一段“However, even as the lock downs end, I will continue to send them postcards because everyone enjoys receiving a real letter.(然而,即使封锁结束,我也会继续给她们寄明信片,因为每个人都喜欢收到真正的信件)”可知明信片受欢迎。 C Why do some people always get lost while others navigate (导航) effortlessly? D 9. C 10. B 11. 根据第一段中“Research suggests that experience plays a bigger role than natural talent in developing a sense of direction. 以及第二段中的实验结果“This suggests good navigators develop through lived experience. 根据第二段“A key factor is how you grew up. 根据第三段中“In Nordic countries, where orienteering (a sport connecting running and navigation) is popular, people tend to perform better. 根据最后一段中“To improve navigation skills, experts recommend targeted practice that strengthens both route-following and direction memory abilities. While GPS can be helpful, overusing it may weaken your natural navigation ability. Instead, observe noticeable things like buildings, bus stops, and street patterns to understand how locations connect. Doing this often helps build a clearer picture in the mind. Having experienced 41. activities 42. was moved 43. but 44. to part 45. happier 【解析】 【分析】这是一篇记叙文。 故填with。 故填an。 故填who或that。 故填was moved。 分析句子可知,not only......but (also)...... 故填but。 故填to part。 The Internet and Me ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】范文 The Internet and Me Last Sunday, I was doing my English homework when I was stuck on a difficult reading passage. So, I turned to the Internet for help. Not understanding some long and complex sentences, I turned to the Internet for help. 【点睛】[高分句型1] It’s like a knowledgeable teacher that can offer instant help. (运用了that引导定语从句) [高分句型2] I was really amazed at how convenient the Internet is. Mama’s Soup Pot There are too many treasures in life we take for granted, the worth of which we don’t fully realize until they’re pointed out to us in some unexpected way. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 The day Sol came over I was very nervous. Mama and the other family members welcomed him with embraces. Soon after sitting at the heavy, deeply stained table, we were instantly faced with bowls of soup. “Sol,” Mama asked, “you know what this is?” “Soup?” Sol responded. “Not soup,” Mama said emphatically. “It’s minestrone!” She then launched into a long explanation of the power of minestrone: how it cured headaches, colds. And Mama even said the soup would make Sol strong. I was so embarrassed, convinced that this would be the last time I would ever see my friend Sol. But Sol quickly finished his bowl and asked for one more. His initial hesitation gave way to genuine enjoyment. And as the evening progressed I saw him relax, his rigid posture melting away in my family’s easy atmosphere. When we were saying our good-byes, Sol confided, “You sure have a great family.” Then he added, “Boy, you are lucky!” Lucky? I wondered. Suddenly, it dawned on me that true wealth wasn’t measured in polished silver or spotless kitchens. It was found in the simple joys of family, laughter, and a steaming bowl of Mama’s minestrone soup. 词汇激活 行为类 ①欢迎:welcome/greet ②询问:ask/question/inquire ③开始做某事:launch into/jump into/dive into 情绪类 ①紧张的:nervous/uneasy ②快乐:enjoyment/delight 【点睛】 【高分句型1】And as the evening progressed, I saw him relax, his rigid posture melting away in my family’s easy atmosphere (使用了as引导的时间状语从句) 【高分句型2】 Suddenly, it dawned on me that true wealth wasn’t measured in polished silver or spotless kitchens.(使用了that引导的主语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
