Many birds today use human rubbish to build their nests (鸟巢) Is it helpful or harmful for birds to use rubbish for nests? You will find the answer in some studies.
Birds are building their nests with rubbish, said a new study. The rubbish includes cigarette butts (烟头) and plastic bags. A group of European scientists looked into about 35,000 studies on bird nests. They found that birds have used man-made things in nests almost everywhere on Earth.
Some rubbish seems to be helpful. This is why birds “like” putting it in their nests. For example, cigarette butts have some chemicals, so they can keep insects away and protect the baby birds. Plastic bags are useful in keeping the animals warm, and other hard things, such as paper cards, can make nests stronger.
However, in the end, human rubbish may only bring more harm to birds. The toxic (有毒的) chemicals in cigarettes hurt the baby birds. The babies may get sick or have shorter lives, according to a study. To make matters worse, if the cigarette still burns when the bird brings it back to its home, it may set fire to the nest. Pieces of fishing net may also trap birds, and it’s impossible for them to get out by themselves. If the babies eat other kinds of rubbish by accident, they will also get hurt.
Our friends in the air are feeling the bad effects of humans polluting the environment.
42. Cigarette butts can help birds ________.

44. What’s the writer’s opinion about bird nests with rubbish?

C. It’s a way to improve the environment. D. It is quite helpful to the birds.
45. What’s the correct structure of the passage?
A. B. C. D.

I once travelled across China. As a chef (厨师), I really felt at home in this place and realized that its variety of food is as wide as its land.
In Beijing, I took to eating Beijing Roast Duck. The barbecue gives it that famous smoky taste. Crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, the tender and juicy duck goes well with the pancakes and the sweet sauce. People say that when in Rome, do as the Romans do. Table manners are no exception. I had to hold chopsticks instead of a knife and fork while eating.
In Shandong, I came across Four-Joy Meatballs in a wedding feast. The large round meatball is steamed through to keep its original flavor. Slightly rough and brown outside but incredibly soft inside, it melts in the mouth. I didn’t think anything could beat my tender bacon until I met it!
When it comes to something spicy (辣的), what else but Chongqing hot pot! There is nothing that a hot pot can’t fix, so no tour of China is complete without trying a hot pot. In the restaurant I chose, there were so many customers eating that there was not enough room to swing a cat. I have to say my mouth was on fire but I just couldn’t stop!
As well as a burning mouth, I was left with a full stomach, some lovely memories, and a wider understanding of the tastes of China.
46. What do Beijing Roast Duck and Four-Joy Meatballs have in common?

Fights at school sometimes happen. But how can you keep away from a fight? Here’s something you can do.
Be calm. Sometimes, you feel so angry that you really want to teach somebody a lesson. But being angry can’t solve problems. Neither can a fight. Instead, it may bring you more problems. In the school, everyone involved (卷入) in a fight will be punished, no matter who started it. There are no winners in a fight.
Shout loudly. If you know someone is coming up behind you to attack, turn toward the person with your hands up in front of your body and loudly say “stop” before walking away. Loud voice can usually make the attacker calm down. If the person doesn’t stop, cry for help by calling out the name of a teacher whose office is nearby.
Learn to refuse. Your friend may ask you to join in a fight. Learn to say no. Helping him fight is not really helpful to him. If you really want to give him a hand, try to ask him to give it up. Also, you can tell him if he gets involved in a fight, he may get hurt and be punished. Then, try to learn why he wants a fight and help him find a right way to deal with the problem.
49. How many pieces of advice does the writer give us?
A. 2. B. 3. C. 4. D. 5.
50. What does the underlined word “attack” in Paragraph 3 mean in Chinese?

Many birds today use human rubbish to build their nests (鸟巢). Is it helpful or harmful for birds to use rubbish for nests?

Ava Bright is an 11-year-old girl from London, the UK. She has a skin disease (皮肤病) and it makes her skin appear blotchy (有斑点的). Ava was only four when a small blotch appeared on her back. By age seven, there were many big blotches on her skin.
Her mother, Julie Brown, wanted to do something for her. “She hated how she looked,” said Julie. “It felt pretty terrible. I wanted to help her. I wanted to make Ava know she was perfect the way she was.” So when Julie heard that a clothing company in the US was looking for kids who look “different” to be their models, she sent a photo of her daughter. The company replied to her quickly after they saw the photo and the family was in New York City three weeks later.
While on the shoot (拍摄), Ava said she felt comfortable in her own skin. She showed off her skin while she was in dresses, shorts and T-shirts.
Looking back on her experience, Ava said, “I accept who I am. And I think it’s so cool to be myself.” For those who look different, Ava would say:________________________.
