学习活动(包含设计意图)
Step 1: Warming-up & Lead-in (5 minutes)
Activity: Show some pictures of famous tourist attractions around the world on the PPT, such as the Eiffel Tower in France, the Great Wall in China, the Statue of Liberty in the United States, etc. Then ask students some questions: “Have you ever been to these places? What do you think of traveling? Why do people like traveling?”
Design Intent: This activity can quickly arouse students' interest in the topic of travel, activate their prior knowledge, and create a relaxed and active classroom atmosphere, which is conducive to the smooth progress of the following teaching activities.
Step 2: Presentation (10 minutes)
Activity 1: Present two pictures related to the text on the PPT, one is a picture of a hot pot and the other is a picture of some masks in the museum. Let students look at the pictures and predict what the text may be about. Then ask them to share their predictions with their partners.
Activity 2: Introduce some new words and phrases that will appear in the text, such as “arrive in, airport, hot pot, can’t wait to...” Explain the meaning and usage of these words and phrases through examples. For example, “We arrived in Beijing yesterday. The airport in Beijing is very large. I can’t wait to open my birthday present.” Then let students read the new words and phrases after the teacher several times to ensure they can pronounce them correctly.
Design Intent: Activity 1 can stimulate students' curiosity and improve their ability to predict the content of the text. Activity 2 can help students reduce reading obstacles and better understand the text content, as well as lay a foundation for vocabulary learning.
Step 3: Practice (10 minutes)
Skimming (3 minutes)
Activity: Let students quickly read the text and answer the question: “What is the main idea of this passage?” After reading, ask several students to share their answers.
Design Intent: Through skimming, students can get a general understanding of the text, improve their ability to grasp the overall meaning of the text, and train their fast - reading skills.
Scanning (5 minutes)
Activity: Ask students to read the text again and find out the following information: “When did the author arrive in Chengdu? What did the author eat in Chengdu? What did the author visit in Chengdu?” Let students mark the relevant sentences in the text. Then invite several students to report their answers.
Design Intent: Scanning can help students find specific information in the text accurately and improve their reading speed and information - gathering ability.
Careful Reading
Activity 1: Divide the text into several parts. Analyze each part sentence by sentence with students. Explain the difficult sentences, such as “The food was much spicier than I expected. Cooking hot pot is as much fun as eating it.” Guide students to understand the usage of the comparative degree and the as...as structure in these sentences.
Activity 2: Let students read each part carefully again and summarize the author's feelings and experiences in each part. Then fill in a form on the PPT, which includes columns such as “Part”, “What the author did”, and “The author's feelings”. After students fill in the form, ask them to share their answers in groups.
Design Intent: Activity 1 can help students understand the difficult points in the text and master the key grammar. Activity 2 can deepen students' understanding of the text content, train their ability to summarize and analyze, and promote students' cooperation and communication.
Step 4: Oral Practice & Consolidation (15 minutes)
Activity 1: Group discussion. Divide students into groups of four or five. Give each group a topic: “If you have a chance to travel to Chengdu, what would you like to do? And why?” Let students discuss in groups for about 5 minutes. Each group selects a representative to report the group's discussion results.
