We recycle (回收利用) rubbish, so why not language? Recycling language means using vocabulary (词汇) that you have learnt before again and again. However, unlike rubbish that piles up (堆积) in our environment, if we do not recycle language, we simply forget it. So how do you recycle language?

If there are some that you are not sure about, make a guess and you will probably guess right. The second way to recycle is through writing. Look at some of your favourite articles and write either a short paragraph or a few sentences in your own words. After you have done this a few times, go back and read through what you have written, checking vocabulary functions. Don’t worry if you have made mistakes. That’s how you learn. If the rose can be said to be a special flower, then the apple can be said to be a special fruit. It is very important in American culture.
About 220 years ago, John Chapman went across America to get apple seeds (种子) and plant apple trees in America. Then apples became an important fruit for the people of early America. Because of this, John Chapman became very popular and got his new name “Johnny Appleseed”.
One of the first sayings for American children is, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.” This short saying encourages (鼓励) children to eat fresh fruit to keep healthy. If someone always says good words to a person, people will call him an “apple polisher”. But it is not a good name. If someone is very dear to us, we say that he or she is the “apple of our eyes”.
Most people think that the fruit which Eve gave to Adam was an apple, although the Bible (圣经) never says so. So the apple is an important part of the language and stories of America.
In many parts of the country, a popular activity in autumn is to pick apples in an apple garden. Washington D.C. and New York are both famous (著名的) for their apples. When it’s time to take a vacation to American cites, one can always visit New York— “the biggest apple” of all the American cities.

① My daughter gave me an address book for my birthday. She knows the one I have is old. The gift is lovely: the cover is colourful, and the pages are white. But I don’t feel like I am free to use this new address book because I’m still tied to my old one.
② My address book tells my own story—the way I moved around. Names were added in different colours from different periods of life. When I moved back home to Niagara, my address book included the old information I needed in order to get in touch with some of my old friends again.
③ There are certainly stories of friendships in this book—the comings and goings of my friends. Their address has been corrected again and again filling up one line after another. I have started using pencil for some of them because they are taking up too much space! Some friends went on to marry each other. For such things, I used arrows (箭头) to show how these two families had become one. Children’s names were added one by one. Then some got their own lines as they moved out.
④This book also includes the stories of my family—two generations remember all their phone numbers, and I can picture their houses in detail. Some have died, but their addresses are still there in my book.
⑤ “Don’t you have all that on your phone?” My daughter, who never uses address books, asked me once when she saw me checking my address book. I know that having it on a phone is super useful and can save a lot of trouble. But making changes on a phone is always done completely. When you don’t see a person any more, you delete (删除) all his information. It’s like he was never there.
⑥ My old address book now sits on top of the new one. The magnet (磁铁) on its cover is as strong as ever, keeping all the people from A to Z in order. But my new address book whispers a story of new possibilities. It offers me space for those new friends that I haven’t met yet. I’ll get to it. It’s just a matter of time.
42.The old information in the old address book can help the writer ________.
A.move back home to Niagara B.connect with old friends again
C.move around the world D.make more new fiends
43.The writer drew arrows in his address book when ________.
A.two strangers became fiends B.two friends became husband and wife
C.a friend of hers gave birth to a child D.a friend of hers moved to a new place
44.What can we infer (推断) from the last paragraph?
A.The writer doesn’t like the new address book.
B.The writer will start to use the new address book soon.
C.The writer has decided to throw her old address book away.
D.The writer decides to put all her friends’ information into a phone.
45.What is the proper structure of the passage?
A.①-②③④⑤-⑥

C.①②-③④-⑤⑥
D.①-②③④-⑤-⑥

Before parents pick up their children, there should be after-school activities in schools. Teachers can help students with their homework. Students can enjoy their hobbies in groups, too. In Nanjing, there are free after-school activities in all primary schools from 2017. In 2021 the schools change the time from 5:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. so that parents can pick up their kids after work. About 230,000 children in primary schools do such activities. They are half of all primary school students in the city.
From this spring, Shanghai public schools also change their school hours from ending at 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Teachers work for more hours to look after their students after school. “Teachers take turns to do the activities,” a 5th-grade teacher in Shanghai says, “and usually I look after the students every Wednesday and Friday afternoon.”

We recycle (回收利用) rubbish, so why not language? Recycling language means using vocabulary (词汇) that you have learnt before again and again. However, unlike rubbish that piles up (堆积) in our environment, if we do not recycle language, we simply forget it. So how do you recycle language?
There are basically (主要的) three ways to do it. The first is through reading. Go back to your favourite articles and read them once more. Just reread them and do not worry about each vocabulary item. The third way to recycle language is by having an imaginary chat with yourself about your favourite articles at home. You can pretend there is someone with you who speaks English and tell him what you are thinking about or how you feel.
33.According to the passage, recycling language means ________.
A.repeating vocabulary at times
B.revising vocabulary at a proper time

D.pay no attention to vocabulary functions
36.Which of the following is probably the best title of the passage?

A.①-②③④⑤-⑥
B.①②③-④-⑤⑥
C.①②-③④-⑤⑥
D.①-②③④-⑤-⑥
