教学环节
学习活动(包含设计意图)
Step 1: Warming-up & Lead-in (5 minutes)
Greet the class as usual.
Show some vivid pictures of different festivals around the world on the screen, such as colorful lanterns of Chinese Lantern Festival, Santa Claus on Christmas, and children wearing costumes on Halloween.
Design Intent: The vivid pictures can directly stimulate students’ visual senses, quickly arouse their interest in festivals, and lead them to think about the festivals they know, thus smoothly introducing the topic of this class.
Interaction: Ask students to share the festivals they recognize in the pictures briefly. For example, “Can you tell me the name of this festival? What do you know about it?”
Step 2: Presentation (10 minutes)
Divide students into groups of four or five.
Distribute a chart to each group. The chart has columns like “Festival Name”, “Time”, “Typical Activities”, “Symbols” etc.
Instruct students to search for information about festivals and holidays. They can use their textbooks, mobile phones (if allowed in class) or their own knowledge.
Design Intent: Group work can cultivate students’ cooperative learning ability. The chart provides a clear framework for students to organize information, helping them to think systematically about festival - related details.
Interaction: Walk around the classroom, offer necessary help and guidance. Encourage students to discuss actively in groups, and ask some groups to briefly report the progress of their information - searching.
Step 3: Practice (10 minutes)
Present an outline on the screen for making a poster about a festival. The outline may include:
Introduction: Briefly introduce the festival.
Main Body: Describe the time, traditional activities, special foods, and symbols of the festival.
Conclusion: Express personal feelings or the significance of the festival.
Provide some language tips, such as useful expressions for describing activities like “People usually / often / sometimes...” and sentence patterns from this unit. For example, “On this day, people get together and...”
Let students start to organize their ideas based on the information they collected in the previous step and make the first draft of their posters.
Design Intent: The outline gives students a clear structure for their posters, making it easier for them to organize their thoughts. Language tips can help students use appropriate language, improving the quality of their writing.
Interaction: Check students’ first drafts, give one - on - one guidance on language use and content organization. Point out common mistakes and provide suggestions for improvement.
Step 4: Oral Practice & Consolidation (15 minutes)
Show some examples of well - designed posters on the screen, highlighting elements like layout, color matching, and the combination of text and pictures.
Encourage students to make their posters more creative and attractive. They can add relevant pictures, use different colors of markers, and pay attention to the layout of text and pictures.
Design Intent: By showing excellent examples, students can have a more intuitive understanding of what a good poster looks like, and then be inspired to improve their own posters in terms of aesthetics.
Interaction: Walk around the classroom, observe students’ progress in polishing their posters, and offer advice on design and creativity.
Step 5: Summary & Homework (5 minutes)
Guide students to think about their understanding of festival celebrations, such as “What have you learned about different ways to celebrate festivals?”
Ask some students to share their ideas in class.
Present some self - assessment questions on the screen, such as:
Did you use words and expressions in the unit to talk about festivals and holidays?
Did you use adverbs of frequency and the simple present tense correctly to talk about ways to celebrate festivals and holidays?
Did you introduce different festivals and their cultures well?
Let students think about these questions and encourage them to share their problems in study and ask for advice.
Design Intent: Reflection can help students summarize what they have learned, find out their own problems, and promote their self - awareness of learning.
Interaction: Listen carefully to students’ sharing, provide positive feedback and useful suggestions to help them solve problems.
Homework
Ask students to perfect their posters according to the comments in class and put them up on the classroom wall.
Require students to write a short passage about their favorite festival based on the content of their posters, using at least five sentences.
