By using advanced microwave radar technology it will collect height-surface measurements of oceans, lakes and rivers in high-definition detail over 90% of the globe. It’s really the first time to observe nearly all water on the planet’s surface. The major mission is to explore how oceans absorb atmospheric heal and CO2 in a natural process that adjusts climate change. Oceans are estimated to have absorbed more than 90% of the extra heat trapped in the Earth’s atmosphere by human-caused greenhouse gases. Swot will scan (查看) the seas and precisely measure fine differences in surface elevations (高度) around smaller currents and eddies (漩涡), where much of the oceans’ decrease of heat and carbon is believed to occur. “Studying the mechanism will help climate scientists answer a key question: What is the turning point at which oceans start releasing, rather than absorbing, huge amounts of heat back into the atmosphere and speed up global warming, rather than limiting it,” said Nadya Shiffer, Swot’s program scientist. By comparison, earlier studies of water bodies relied on data of rivers or oceans taken at specific points, or from satellites that can only track measurements along a one-dimensional line, requiring scientists to fill in data gaps through extrapolation (外推法). Thanks to the radar instrument, Swot can scan through cloud cover and darkness over wide ranges of the Earth. This enables scientists to accurately map their observations in two dimensions regardless of weather or time of day and to cover large geographic areas far more quickly than was previously possible. “Rather than giving us a line of elevations, it’s giving us a map of elevations, and that’s just a total game changer,” said Tamlin Pavelsky, Swot freshwater science leader. 4. What do the underlined words “vital resource” in the first paragraph refer to? A. Technology. B. Climate. C. Oceans. D. Water. 5. What is the major mission of Swot satellite? A. To explore where oceans absorb heat and CO2. B. To explain why greenhouse gas comes into being. C. To identify when global warming is worsened. D To study how oceans influence climate change. 6. What makes it possible for Swot to measure precisely? A. The high-definition computer. B. Advanced radar technology. C. The three-dimensional image. D. An accurate map of elevations. 7. Which is the most suitable title for the text? A. First Global Water Survey from Space B. Successful Launch of Swot Satellite C. A Breakthrough in Space Travel D. A Solution to Climate Change 【答案】4. D 5. D 6. B 7. 根据画线短语下文“By using advanced microwave radar technology it will collect height-surface measurements of oceans, lakes and rivers in high-definition detail over 90% of the globe. It’s really the first time to observe nearly all water on the planet’s surface.(通过使用先进的微波雷达技术,它将收集全球90% 以上的海洋、湖泊和河流的高清晰度表面测量数据。 根据第二段的“The major mission is to explore how oceans absorb atmospheric heat and carbon dioxide in a natural process that adjusts climate change.(主要任务是探索海洋如何在调节气候变化的自然过程中吸收大气热量和二氧化碳)”可知,Swot卫星的主要任务是研究海洋在气候调节过程中的作用,换句话说就是要研究海洋是如何影响气候改变的。 根据倒数第二段的“Thanks to the radar instrument, Swot can scan through cloud cover and darkness over wide ranges of the Earth. This enables scientists to accurately map their observations in two dimensions regardless of weather or time of day and to cover large geographic areas far more quickly than was previously possible.(多亏了雷达仪器,Swot可以在地球的大范围内扫描云层和黑暗。这使得科学家能够精确地绘制二维地图,无论天气如何,无论何时,覆盖大面积地理区域的速度比以前快得多)”可知,先进的雷达技术使得Swot能够精确测量,故选B项。 【7题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第一段“Swot satellite is scheduled to be launched Thursday morning to conduct a comprehensive survey of Earth’s vital resource. By using advanced microwave radar technology it will collect height-surface measurements of oceans, lakes and rivers in high-definition detail over 90% of the globe. It’s really the first time to observe nearly all water on the planet’s surface.(Swot卫星计划于周四上午发射,对地球的重要资源进行全面调查。 C Farmers often grow so-called cover plants between main crops. They are used for purposes such as for animal feeds or remain on the field as nutrients. In this way, they supply the soil with nutrients before the next planting. However, cover plants also protect against the soil being washed away, regulate soil temperature, promote humus (腐殖质) formation and increase biodiversity above and below ground. However, their potential for removing soil contaminants (污染物) has yet to be recognized. Actually, using plants to deal with contaminants in the soil is nothing new. For example, contaminated soil on industrial sites is already being tackled in this way. But agriculture could also benefit from this method, says Marie Muehe, head of the Plant Biogeochemistry working group at the UFZ and senior author of the publication. Then which plants are suitable for phytoremediation (植物修复) in agriculture? And which pollutants could be managed with which plants? The UFZ team investigated these questions and analysed the current research. Based on the results of the former studies, the research team developed concepts for phytoremediation for the respective pollutant categories. For example, sunflowers could be used as a cover plant to prevent nitrate (硝酸盐) in the soil from being washed out and polluting the groundwater. The plants absorb the nitrate from the soil to grow. However, it was difficult to identify cover plants that are particularly suitable for phytoremediation targeting the contaminant categories of plastic. “A lot of research still needs to be done here — working together with farmers. Other than that, there is no other approach to effective and practicable strategies for phytoremediation, tailored to different locations, soils and pollutant problems,” says Marie Muehe. “From our perspective, using cover plants to manage soil pollutants could be an efficient future concept for healthier soils and more sustainable agriculture.” A UFZ research team will be launching a field study together with farmers as part of the SmartManure project in the summer of 2025. Their aim is to more closely investigate different cover plants and their remediation performance and to test the practicability of phytoremediation in agricultural practice. 8. What is the purpose of paragraph 1? A. To point out the benefits of cover plants. B. To bring about the topic to be discussed. C. To introduce the background of the passage. D. To expose a rare phenomenon in agriculture. 9. What is the base of the researchers’ concept? A. Their practical experiments. B. Their work in the field. C. Findings of previous research. D. The newly-raised questions. 10 What is the only solution to the phytoremediation problem? A. Doing more research along with farmers. B. Testing the practicability of phytoremediation. C. Gathering more ways from previous recordings. D. Popularizing advanced knowledge among farmers. 11. What is mainly talked about in the passage? A. Cover plants function well in the field. B. Farmers are taught to use cover plants in the filed. C. Pollutants in the soil can be reduced in various ways. D. Cover plants can be used to remove pollutants in the soil. B 9. C 10. A 11. 根据第一段“Farmers often grow so-called cover plants between main crops. However, their potential for removing soil contaminants (污染物) has yet to be recognized.(农民经常在主要作物之间种植所谓的覆盖植物。 根据第三段“Based on the results of the former studies, the research team developed concepts for phytoremediation for the respective pollutant categories.(在前人研究成果的基础上,研究小组提出了针对各自污染物类别的植物修复概念。)” 根据第四段“A lot of research still needs to be done here—working together with farmers. Other than that, there is no other approach to effective and practicable strategies for phytoremediation(这里还需要与农民一起进行大量的研究。除此之外,没有其他有效和可行的植物修复策略)”可知,除了与农民一起进行更多的研究外,没有其他方法来制定有效和可行的植物修复策略,也就是说这是唯一的方法。故选A。 通读全文,尤其是第三段“Based on the results of the former studies, the research team developed concepts for phytoremediation for the respective pollutant categories. For example, sunflowers could be used as a cover plant to prevent nitrate in the soil from being washed out and polluting the groundwater. The Nazca people, who lived in the area over 2,000 years ago, made the drawings by removing the reddish top layer (层) of rocks in the desert. The drawings are called “geoglyphs (地画)”. The Nazca Lines, which are a famous group of huge ancient drawings, include many different kinds of geoglyphs, from simple shapes to pictures of animals and plants, usually drawn with a single long, winding line. The first geoglyph was discovered in 1927. Since then, scientists have found around 430 geoglyphs in the area. Now, using AI and drones, scientists have found 303 new geoglyphs. The discovery of one geoglyph used to take three or four years, but now may be done in two or three months. However, the AI program also made lots of mistakes — for every 36 possible geoglyphs the program found, the scientists discovered only one actual geoglyph. Even so, the new method of turning up geoglyphs was much faster than the scientists could have managed without drones and AI. To find the new geoglyphs, the scientists trained a special AI program to analyze satellite images for potential geoglyphs. They spent over 2,600 hours looking at places the AI had advised. They took lots of pictures with drones and worked on the ground in Peru to check out the locations. Most of the new-found geoglyphs are smaller than the ones already discovered, and are about nine meters in length. Many of them seem to show humans as well as animals. The scientists are still trying to figure out what the geoglyphs mean. For one thing, the scientists discovered paths in the Nazca Desert. The scientists believe these paths were made by the Nazca people walking through the desert, and that the smaller geoglyphs were meant to be seen by these travellers. The scientists also believe the larger geoglyphs are different and may have been used for celebrations or other special events. 12. How were the Nazca geoglyphs created? A. By adding red rocks. B. By carving in the soil. C. By copying winding lines. D. By clearing rock surface layers. 13. Why does the author list the figures in paragraph 2? A. To stress the efficiency of the new method. B. To show the drones’ imperfection. C. To argue for more funding. D. To prove AI’s accuracy. 14. What can be inferred about the process of discovering new geoglyphs? A. Drones were used for initial checks. B. Fieldwork confirmed AI suggestions. C. AI identified all geoglyphs precisely. D. Satellites ignored some new geoglyphs. 15. What do the scientists think the larger geoglyphs were likely to be used for? A. Wildlife adoration. B. Desert decoration. C. Special occasions. D. Road signs. 【答案】12. D 13. A 14. B 15. C 【解析】 【导语】本文是说明文。文章主要介绍了在秘鲁的沙漠中,科学家在人工智能和无人机的帮助下寻找包含了不同种类的地画的纳斯卡线。 12题详解】 细节理解题。根据第一段“The Nazca people, who lived in the area over 2,000 years ago, made the drawings by removing the reddish top layer (层) of rocks in the desert. The drawings are called “geoglyphs (地画)”. (2000多年前居住在该地区的纳斯卡人通过移除沙漠中红色的岩石表层来绘制这些画作。这些图画被称为“地画”。)”可知,地画的创作方式是清除岩石表层。故选D。 【13题详解】 推理判断题。根据第二段“The first geoglyph was discovered in 1927. Since then, scientists have found around 430 geoglyphs in the area. Now, using AI and drones, scientists have found 303 new geoglyphs. The discovery of one geoglyph used to take three or four years, but now may be done in two or three months. (即便如此,这种显示地画的新方法比科学家在没有无人机和人工智能的情况下所能做到的要快得多。)”可知,第二段通过对比“过去发现一个地画需3-4年,现在仅需2-3月”,作者在本段列举这些数字主要是为了强调新方法的效率。故选A。 【14题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段“To find the new geoglyphs, the scientists trained a special AI program to analyze satellite images for potential geoglyphs. They spent over 2,600 hours looking at places the AI had advised. They took lots of pictures with drones and worked on the ground in Peru to check out the locations. Most of the new-found geoglyphs are smaller than the ones already discovered, and are about nine meters in length. (为了找到新的地画,科学家们训练了一个特殊的人工智能程序来分析卫星图像中的潜在地画。他们花了2600多个小时查看人工智能建议的地方。他们用无人机拍了很多照片,并在秘鲁的地面上检查了地点。大多数新发现的地画都比已经发现的小,长度约为9米。)”可知,科学家用AI分析卫星图像,再通过无人机拍摄和实地验证,可推断发现地画过程需实地确认AI的推测。故选B。 【15题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段“The scientists also believe the larger geoglyphs are different and may have been used for celebrations or other special events. (科学家们还认为,较大的地画是不同的,可能被用于庆祝活动或其他特殊活动。)”可知,较大的地画可能用于庆典或其他特殊活动。故选C。 E Everyone needs friendship to survive. Her imagination was rich, and she often found herself making up stories in her head. Yet, she never dared to share them with anyone, confined (受限) by her shy nature and a fear of public speaking. Life passed her by in a routine that left little room for self-expression, and her stories remained locked within the walls of her mind. One day, an old friend invited Mary to attend a local storytelling workshop. Hesitantly, she agreed, hoping to find a way to break free from her shell. As she entered the place, she felt a mix of expectation and fear. What if she stumbled(磕绊) over her words? What if people laughed at her? Despite her anxiety, Mary took her seat among the other participants, each there for their own reason—some seeking a new hobby, others looking for personal growth. The workshop facilitator(主持人), a charming woman named Evelyn, greeted them warmly. She spoke of the power of stories and the beauty of sharing one’s voice. As the hours went by, Mary learned techniques to build suspense(悬念), create lifelike characters, and tell a fascinating story. The other participants listened carefully, offering ideas and encouragement. For the first time in a long while, Mary felt seen and heard. As the day drew to a close, Evelyn announced an upcoming storytelling competition. It would be held in a few weeks at, a local bookstore. To Mary’s surprise, she found herself volunteering to participate. The thought of standing onstage frightened her, but something within her longed for the challenge. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Paragraph 1: From that day on. Mary practiced day and night. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: The big day came. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】From that Day on, Mary practiced day and night. She rehearsed her stories in front of the mirror, experimenting with different tones and gestures to bring her characters to life. Sometimes, she recorded herself and listened back. The more she practiced, the more she believed in herself, and the less she feared the upcoming competition. Her newfound confidence was evident to everyone around her, and her peers from the workshop, who had become a supportive circle of friends, cheered her on. The big day came. Mary stepped on to the stage of the local bookstore and the sea of faces turned towards her expectantly. Taking a deep breath, she began to weave her tale, her voice at first hesitant but quickly gaining strength. As she immersed herself in the world of her story, the audience followed, their laughter echoing through the room, giving her the praise she had once only dreamed of. By the time she finished, the applause was thunderous, and Mary knew that not only had she overcome her fears, but she had also captured the hearts of everyone present. 踏上:step on/set foot on ②.完成:finish/complete 情绪类 ①.相信:believe in/trust ②.恐惧:fear/terror 【点睛】[高分句型1]. By using advanced microwave radar technology, it will collect height-surface measurements of oceans, lakes and rivers in high-definition detail over 90% of the globe. D. To study how oceans influence climate change. 6. What makes it possible for Swot to measure precisely? A. The high-definition computer. B. Advanced radar technology. C. The three-dimensional image. D. An accurate map of elevations. 7 Which is the most suitable title for the text? A. First Global Water Survey from Space B Successful Launch of Swot Satellite C. A Breakthrough in Space Travel D. A Solution to Climate Change C Farmers often grow so-called cover plants between main crops. 10. What is the only solution to the phytoremediation problem? D In the desert in Peru, over 300 new ancient drawings were discovered by using Artificial Intelligence (AI) and drones (无人机). A Drones were used for initial checks. D. Road signs. E Everyone needs friendship to survive.
