If you are the first time to come to Hongkong, you must look to the right side and then the left before you cross the street. If the traffic lights are red, the traffic must stop. Then people on foot can cross the road carefully. But if the traffic lights are green, the traffic can go. People on foot mustn't cross. When people go to or come from work in the morning and evening, the streets are very busy. Ten years ago, my hometown was a small village. There was only one narrow road in the village, and most people walked or rode bikes to go out. There were no tall buildings—all houses were small and made of wood. The river near the village was clean, and we often swam in it in summer. But there were few shops, so we had to go to the town 5 kilometers away to buy daily things.
Now, great changes have happened. A wide road has been built, and many families have cars. Tall buildings, like apartment blocks and supermarkets, have appeared. There are also two primary schools and a hospital. The river is still clean, but we can’t swim in it anymore because the village made rules to protect the water. People’s life is much better now—most families have fridges, TVs and computers. But I sometimes miss the old days when we played together by the river and the air was even fresher.
( )26. What was the road like in the village ten years ago?
A. Wide. B. Narrow. C. Long. D. Short.
( )27. How did most people go out in the village ten years ago?
A. By car. B. By bus. C. On foot or by bike. D. By train.
( )28. Why can’t people swim in the river now?

C. The river is too deep. D. There are dangerous animals in the river.
( )29. What can we find in the village now?
A. No supermarkets. B. Two primary schools.
C. No tall buildings. D. No hospitals.
( )30. What does the writer sometimes miss?
A. The old houses made of wood. B. The narrow road in the village.
C. The days playing by the river. D. The small shops in the village.

Pandas are one of the most popular animals in the world, and they are China’s national treasure. Most pandas live in Sichuan, Shaanxi and Gansu provinces of China.
Pandas mainly eat bamboo. An adult panda eats about 12 to 38 kilograms of bamboo every day. They spend 10 to 16 hours eating because bamboo doesn’t have much nutrition. Pandas have a special “sixth finger”—it’s not a real finger, but a part of their wrist. It helps them hold bamboo easily.
Pandas are usually quiet and slow. They like to sleep in trees or on the ground. Baby pandas are very small when they are born—only about 100 grams, which is as light as a small apple. They are pink and have no hair. After about 6 months, they start to eat bamboo and grow black-and-white fur.
Now, pandas are in danger. The number of bamboo forests is getting smaller because of human activities, so pandas lose their homes. Also, pandas have few babies—usually one or two every two years. To protect pandas, China has built many nature reserves for them. Now, the number of pandas is increasing slowly.
( ) 31. Where do most pandas live in China?
A. In Hubei, Hunan and Jiangxi. B. In Sichuan, Shaanxi and Gansu.
C. In Guangdong, Guangxi and Fujian. D. In Heilongjiang, Jilin and Liaoning.
( )32. How much bamboo does an adult panda eat every day?
A. About 10 to 16 kilograms. B. About 12 to 38 kilograms.
C. About 100 grams. D. About 1 to 2 kilograms.
