Passage 1
(24-25高二·山东日照·期中)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
It was a bright and sunny morning at Greenfield High School, and the annual sports day was in full swing. The atmosphere was electric, with students cheering, banners waving, and the smell of popcorn filling the air. But all eyes were on the final event of the day — the 400-meter race.
Among the participants was Mia, a quiet but determined girl from Class 10B.Mia wasn’t the fastest runner in school, nor was she the most athletic. In fact, she only joined the track team a few months ago after her best friend, Emma, convinced her to give it a try. “You’ve got heart, Mia,” Emma had said. “That’s all you need.”
As Mia stood at the starting line, her heart pounded. She glanced at her competitors — tall, confident, and experienced runners who had won countless medals. Mia tightened her shoelaces and took a deep breath. She reminded herself of the hours she had spent training, the early mornings, and the blisters (水疱) on her feet. She wasn’t here to win; she was here to prove to herself that she could finish the race.
The starting gun fired, and the runners shot off like arrows. Mia started strong but soon found herself lagging behind. By the halfway mark, she was in last place. Mia felt as if a heavy weight had settled on her shoulders. She couldn’t bring himself to look at the crowd. As cheers began to fade, doubt crept into her mind. “Maybe I should just stop, No one will notice.” she thought.

Passage 2
2.(24-25高二·云南·期中)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Known for his diligence (勤奋 )and pursuit of perfection, Leo had earned a reputation as one of the most reliable students in high school. It wasn’t just achievement he chased — it was perfection, as though a small mistake might ruin the value of everything else.
When the school launched its annual Green Week, a poster contest was announced to raise awareness of environmental issues. Many students saw it as a chance for fun. For Leo, however, it felt like a test he had to pass. Having followed news about climate change and taken part in online campaigns, he cared deeply about the Earth. But caring wasn’t enough — for him, the poster had to be unique, powerful, and perfect.
That very desire became the biggest challenge. As the deadline approached, dozens of drafts piled up on his bedroom floor, which were discarded (被丢弃的), rejected, and unfinished. Each attempt seemed not “good enough”. Whether it was a slogan(口号)that felt too common or a drawing that didn’t match his vision, Leo erased, restarted, and abandoned every effort. It was not that he lacked ideas. What he lacked was the freedom to let them breathe. Meanwhile, his classmates’ posters were going up in the hallway — some neatly colored; others experimental. Creative as they were, Leo could only focus on how much better his work had to be.
Tomorrow was the competition day, but Leo was clueless. So upset was he that he decided to take a walk. As the wind shook the trees and dry leaves danced across the sidewalk, Leo reached the neighborhood park. What met his eyes was not nature’s beauty but its mess. Piles of trash lay under a bench: candy wrappers, plastic bottles, and torn paper. Without thinking, Leo bent down and began picking up what he could. It was at that moment, observed by a little girl playing nearby, that something changed. “You’re helping the Earth,” she said quietly. “If it could talk, it would probably thank you,” she added. It was that one sentence, simple though it was, that stayed with Leo. If the Earth could speak, what would it say?

Passage 3
(23-24高二上·浙江·期中)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Catherine’s birthday was approaching, and the excitement that usually filled her heart was now replaced with disappointment and stress. Turning eleven was a big deal, and she had always celebrated it with a grand party surrounded by her friends. However, this year was different. The burden of excessive homework and her parents’ struggling business weighed heavily on her, forcing Catherine to make the difficult decision of not having a birthday party, even though it was an event she enjoyed dearly every year.
One day, during break, her best friend, Sandy, with a curious look in her eyes, approached. “Are you going to have a birthday party this year?” Sandy asked, sensing Catherine’s sadness.
“No,” Catherine sighed and replied sadly, “There’s just too much going on and my parents are going through financial difficulties.”
She smiled weakly, trying to conceal her immense disappointment and stress, but Sandy saw through her pretence (假装) easily. Sandy nodded thoughtfully and did not say anything. After the break, Catherine saw her talking to one of their classmates, Kelly, secretively. Curious, Catherine went over to them, but as soon as Sandy saw her, she quickly walked away. Catherine was startled by Sandy’s strange actions and turned towards Kelly.
“What did she say?” Catherine asked.
However, Kelly simply shrugged and walked away with Sandy, leaving Catherine standing there, feeling left out and anxious.
What is happening? Catherine wondered anxiously. Are they keeping something from me?
As Catherine’s birthday drew nearer, Sandy was often found chatting softly with her other classmates. Whenever Catherine went over to them, they would just walk away or tell her that they were talking about a secret which Catherine was not allowed to know. Sandy has never kept secrets from me before, Catherine thought. Her heart fell. Even her friends were distancing themselves from her! She swung between confusion and sadness with each passing moment, desperately trying to figure out what was happening. Why were her friends distancing themselves from her? And what were they hiding?

Passage 4
(24-25高二·湖北黄冈·期中)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
The school sports meeting was in full swing. The most anticipated event, the 4x100-meter relay race, was about to start. Tim, a passionate and athletic student, was part of his class’s relay team. Along with his teammates—Mark, Jack and Alex, he had trained intensively for weeks, nurturing high hopes of winning the gold medal.
The atmosphere was electric as the runners took their positions. The starting gun fired, and Mark took off like a bolt of lightning, his powerful strides eating up the track. He smoothly handed the baton(接力棒)to Jack. Jack sprinted(冲刺)ahead with all his might, skillfully maintaining their lead. Then, it was Tim’s turn. As Jack approached at top speed, Tim reached out eagerly for the baton. But in his over-enthusiasm, he miscalculated the distance, and to his horror, the baton dropped to the ground. Time seemed to stand still as Tim stared at the baton, his heart pounding.
He quickly snatched it up and dashed forward, but the precious seconds lost had put them behind the other teams. Alex did his absolute best in the final leg, pushing himself to the limit, but they ultimately crossed the finish line in fourth place, narrowly missing out on the medals.
The disappointment on the team’s faces was obvious. Tim felt as if a heavy weight had settled on his shoulders. He couldn’t bring himself to look at his teammates, consumed by guilt. He replayed the moment of the dropped baton over and over in his mind, each time wishing he could turn back the clock. Mark, usually the most talkative, was silent, his eyes downcast(低垂的). Jack shook his head in frustration, muttering something under his breath. Alex just looked at the ground, his shoulders low. Without a word, they started walking back to the changing room, leaving Tim alone on the track, filled with self-blame.

Tim’s life was forever changed when a new teacher, Miss Green, brought magic and encouragement to his classroom, inspiring him and his classmates to believe in themselves and enjoy the joy of learning.
One sunny morning, as Tim walked into his classroom, he noticed a woman he had never seen before standing near the blackboard. She had a warm smile and kind eyes. Tim couldn’t wait to find out more about their new teacher. The bell rang and all the students took their seats. The new teacher introduced herself as Miss Green. She had a gentle voice that soon made everyone feel relaxed. Tim was happy to have her as his teacher and was eager to see what exciting adventures were waiting for them in the classroom.
As the days went by, Tim realized that Miss Green had a magical way of making learning fun and exciting. Each lesson was filled with interactive activities, hands-on experiments, and interesting stories. One day, during a science class, Miss Green brought in a big box filled with colorful liquids (液体) and mysterious objects. She told the class they were going to create their own volcanoes. Tim’s eyes lit up with excitement as he mixed all the things and watched as the volcano erupted (喷发) with a loud sound. It was a magical experience.
In a math class, Miss Green turned numbers into games. She made math problems seem like challenges to deal with, and before long, Tim and his classmates were eagerly raising their hands to answer the challenging questions. Miss Green not only made learning fun, but she also had a special talent for encouraging her students. She believed in their abilities and always reminded them that they could achieve anything they set their minds to and persevere (坚持不懈) with.

Passage 1
(23-24高二上·全国·期中)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
It was 1972, my family had taken a summer vacation from Kansas to Florida, with an exciting day planned at Disney World. My mother, father and two younger sisters, along with my sixty-seven-year-old Grandma Betty and myself, finally arrived at the holy grail (圣杯) of all amusement parks, and we girls were beside ourselves with expectation.
To be honest, I thought my grandma was, too. She hadn’t traveled much in her life and certainly had never been anywhere as exciting as Disney World! After the second ride, we all got off and got ready to change to the next one when one of us looked around and noticed that Grandma Betty wasn’t with us. This was alarming for many reasons, the most important being that Grandma Betty had limited vision and couldn’t read signs well. She had also started to show some signs of confusion. She could easily find herself lost in her own hometown, not to mention “The Most Magical Place on Earth”!
We looked everywhere for her but couldn’t see her, and obviously she could not see or hear us. Cellphones didn’t exist at that time, so there was no help there. Anyone who has been to Disney knows how crowded and busy the park is. It’s pretty easy for a child to get lost in there, but we didn’t think it would be that easy to misplace a grandma!
My mother told us stay in that spot while she went to the “Missing Children” station to report her lost mother. We impatiently waited until she came back and said that she had given them a description, so we might as well move to the next destination.
As the day came to an end, we struggled to Disney’s town square, hoping we might find her there while watching the Electrical Parade (游行), the beautiful parade of lights, music and Disney characters. I was sitting on the ground and watching the moving parade. Along came Mickey Mouse! And then Minnie Mouse! And then Daffy Duck and Cinderella!注意:1.续写词数为150左右;

Passage 2

A Gift of Gold
It was the winter of 1937, just after Christmas. The Depression (大萧条时期) was still going on, but I was in good spirits. I was going to graduate from elementary school, but my mother still dressed me in shorts. Most of my classmates had given up wearing shorts. For the graduation ceremony, all the boys were expected to dress white shirts and dark-blue wool pants (裤子).
I waited until a week before I told my mother. On a cold Monday afternoon I went home from school.
“Mom,” I said, about graduation…”
“Yes?” she answered.
“They are going to give me the first-prize medal,” I said.
Still working over the stove, she looked over her shoulder at me and smiled broadly. “That’s wonderful, Baby. Dad and I will both be there, and we’ll be the proudest in the place.”
She must have seen by the look on my face that something was wrong. She turned her back and said, “So?”
“So, I have to get long pants,” I said.
“Baby, we don’t have the money for new pants right now,” she said.
“Okay,” I burst out. “Then I won’t go to graduation. Plus, I’m running away from home!”
“If I were you, I wouldn’t pack my bags. We’ll solve the pants problem somehow,” she said.
The following Saturday, when my mother said, “Let’s go shopping,” I knew that she had solved the problem. Then we left home. We took the trolley (有轨电车) and got off at Southern Boulevard, the best shopping street. Our clothing store was just a couple of blocks away.
But first we walked a short way down the Boulevard and stopped at a place I had never noticed before.
“Wait here,” she said. Then she opened the door with the hand with a gold wedding ring on her ring finger and entered a storefront (店面) that looked like a bank.
She went out about ten minutes later with a purse in her left hand, and then we went to the pants store. I chose a pair of pants. After a patient bargain with the seller, my mother bought it at the price of three dollars and fifty cents and handed it to me.

Passage 3
(24-25高二上·山东聊城·期中)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
For the past ten years, my dad and I have attended the same school-he as an administrator and I as a student. Our relationship, in and out of school, has been a wild, unpredictable ride.
When I was younger, all that my dad said was doctrine (信条) and anything did I, naturally, copied. I was his little shadow, imitating his every move. We played games together, and stayed up late reading bedtime stories. They were some of the best times. I could count on my dad taking me to school, running into him regularly during the day and riding home with him every afternoon.
As the years ticked by, I hit my pre-teen years. Things started to shift. Suddenly, my dad wasn’t the cool guy I once thought he was. He wore his socks too high, listened to horrible country music and laughed too loudly in front of my friends. How horrible it was! He became the source of all my teenage embarrassment. However, the disasters that occurred in school were even worse. The worst one happened in seventh grade. Our class was having a New Year party, and there he was, dressed up as Donald Duck. With a guitar in hand, he sang the most ridiculous song. Just kill me! I just wanted the ground to open up and swallow me whole. So I ran away as fast as my legs could carry me.
This struggle continued well into high school. But then, something unexpected happened. It was around the time of my 10th-grade physics project. The assignment was to construct a wooden bridge that had the best strength-to-weight ratio (比率) . All the students and physics teachers participated. And guess what? My dad, the only administrator, decided to join in. Instantly, that familiar feeling of embarrassment washed over me, and as usual, I fled the scene.

Jack was a high school freshman, tall and thin, with a heart full of dreams. Jack’s father was a repairman who spent his days fixing cars, so his hands were always dirty. Jack’s father never said much, but his eyes always seemed to say, “I’m proud of you, son.” And Jack felt it in every nod. Their relationship was a quiet one, with an unspoken bond (纽带).
One day, Jack came home from school with a flyer (传单) in his hand. His eyes were bright with excitement as he showed it to his father. “Dad, there’s a school talent show next month, and I want to enter. I’ve been learning guitar for months,” Jack said to his father.
His father looked up from the engine he was working on. “You play the guitar?” he asked in surprise. Feeling a little embarrassed, Jack nodded, saying, “Yeah, I’ve been taking lessons. I think I’m ready.” His father cleaned his hands with a piece of cloth, looked at Jack and smiled, “I’ll be there, son. I wouldn’t miss it.” Through his father’s eyes, Jack knew he had his father’s support.
The days leading up to the talent show were more practice and anxiety for Jack. He would come home after school and lock himself in his room, the sound of his guitar echoing (回响) through the house. His father didn’t speak too much, but he would prepare delicious food and smiled at Jack whenever he saw his son. He would also quietly listen to the music from the living room. Although Jack felt tired or nervous sometimes, he felt pushed forward by unspoken love.
The day of the talent show arrived, and the school hall was filled with excitement. Jack’s hands were shaking as he prepared his guitar backstage. He looked out into the audience and found his father with a broad smile on his face.

Passage 5
(2025·广东肇庆·期中)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Simon was the star of the school sports team. He loved the thrill of outrunning the wind and crossing the finish line first. His name was always on the tip of everyone’s tongue when it came to school sports events.
His little brother, Charlie, loved running too and had always been a fan of Simon. He admired his brother from the bottom of his heart, his eyes wide with excitement as Simon sped past everyone on the track. He wanted to be like Simon and feel the wind in his hair as he ran. Charlie’s dream of being a runner grew like a tiny seed, but was overshadowed by his brother’s bright light. He realized he could never run as fast as Simon did: His feet felt heavy on the track, and his heart was even heavier with fear.
As the annual school sports day approached, Charlie saw the notice on the school bulletin board. His heart did a little dance. A running race! He wanted to be a part of it, to feel the excitement that Simon felt. With a trembling hand, Charlie wrote his name on the list and signed up for the running race, which would take place in two weeks.
That night, he couldn’t sleep, his mind racing with worries. He tossed and turned, picturing himself tripping and falling. What if he lost? What if everyone laughed at him? He couldn’t contain himself and sobbed quietly. He felt as if he was a tiny bird trying to fly alongside an eagle.
When Simon found Charlie crying in his room, he knew something was up. “Hey buddy, what’s all this?” he asked softly, his face filled with concern. Charlie looked up at his big brother with a long sigh and said, “I am going to lose, Simon. I’m not like you. I will never run as fast as you do.”

Passage 1
(24-25高二·四川成都·期中)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文,
Laura Mulvihill, a volunteer at the community center, felt the ride was probably very unusual when she picked up 89-year-old Ronald Dembner from the Veteran’s Hospital in Henry County, Georgia. It was obvious that he was struggling and in bad shape. But it wasn’t until they arrived at his home that her worst doubts were confirmed. Expecting to be greeted by family members, she was greeted by something out of a nightmare (噩梦) episode of Hoarders instead.
Mr. Ronald’s home was covered with rubbish. The kitchen was crowded with old, dirty dishes and leftovers. The carpets were smelly and worn, with visible tracks of dirt. The walls were covered with cobwebs (蜘蛛网) in the corners. To make the situation worse, the room smelt absolutely terrible, and there was no railing (扶手) on the stairs. Hardly could anyone imagine that a man should live in such a poor condition.
After talking with Mr. Ronald, Mulvihill learned that all of Ronald’s family members had passed away, he had no one to assist him. Even the home care nurses had stopped coming to visit as a result of the extremely awful living conditions. He was completely alone, except for his dog, Homer, who had taken to pooping (排便) in the house. Although he was unable to clean up the house by himself, he didn’t dare to reach out for help, for fear of being forced to a nursing home and losing his dog.
Horrified by what she witnessed, Mulvihill decided to take matters into her own hands. She knew it would take a team to make things right, so she called her friends and family members one by one and told them about the situation. Luckily, she found 10 warm-hearted people offering to help. The team was eventually formed.

Passage 2
(24-25高二·安徽滁州·期中)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
42-year-old Christine Dawn King has worked at a pet hospital for 10 years. She is a pet doctor and loves working with pets. As she is warm-hearted and professional, pet owners living in the neighbourhood also love to ask her to treat their pets.
One Thursday morning, Christine was hurrying to her job. The traffic on the road was thick — no surprise for this stretch of highway. She pulled into the exit lane(车道), where cars were moving at a slow speed.
That was when Christine noticed a woman standing near cars with a dog beside her. Christine saw the cause of the traffic jam: The small dog had somehow gotten out of the car and was now stuck in the metal fences(栅栏)in the middle of the highway. The little dog was obviously frightened in the small space, unable to break free. Despite his owner’s best efforts, he was still struggling.
The woman caught the dog’s collar(项圈)but couldn’t move him. Her hands were shaking, and her face was covered with sweat. She was obviously very panicked, not knowing what to do. Some drivers impatiently honked their horns(摁喇叭). Others were too focused on their own schedules to offer assistance. Christine could see the anxiety on the woman’s face as she looked around.
Without hesitation, Christine opened the car door. She quickly walked towards the dog. “Let me see if I can help,” Christine said to the woman. The woman was a little hesitant but still walked aside to allow the stranger to have a try. Christine carefully checked on the situation. She found that the dog was scared, but not injured. She spoke gently to the dog, trying to calm him down. Next, she took out a tool carried with her car and tried her best to widen the gap between the fences. The dog seemed to realize that Christine was here to help him, not struggling anymore.
In no time, the gap between the fences became larger. There was enough space to move the dog. Christine gently lifted him out, taking great care not to hurt him.

Passage 3
(2025·宁夏内蒙古·期中)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I was in Philadelphia for a conference when I saw an ad in the hotel. A nearby theater was showing a documentary (纪录片) about several local animal shelters that were helping to save abandoned dogs across the country. I love animals, and I felt an urge to go to this fundraising event. However, none of my co-workers would go with me, and I was worried about walking on the street alone at night.
I resigned myself to spending the evening in my hotel room, but as soon as I got back to my room I felt restless and bored. The theater where the event was taking place was only about five blocks from the hotel, and the area around the hotel didn’t seem particularly dangerous. So, I decided to brave it. I gathered up my wallet and room key and set off.
It was already getting dark and the streets were nearly deserted. I managed to find the street the theater was on, but when I turned the corner, I stopped in shock. In front of the theater were a group of bikers — very big, tough-looking bikers.
I’ve known lots of motorcycle enthusiasts and most are nice people. However, in this case, I was a woman all alone, in a strange neighborhood, at night, and there were twenty or so very large men — all wearing insignia (徽章) that indicated they were in some sort of club — standing before me. Warning bells began to sound in my head, and my heart was pounding. Was I at the right theater? Had I misread the date of the event?
A sign outside the theater told me that I was in the right place on the right evening. Nevertheless, I wondered if I should rush back to my hotel instead of walking through that crowd of bikers. I finally decided that I would be safer inside the theater. Hopefully, the bikers would have gone away by the time the film was over.

Passage 4
(2023·湖北武汉·期中)阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的据短文。
A Great Monday
Monday started out well. I woke up on time, ate breakfast and did some last-minute studying for my first hour math test. I was confident of getting good grades. Then I left my house. Ten minutes later, I got on school bus with my friends. We were busy chatting about how we spent our weekend. At one stop, Fat Ryan got on hurriedly. He tripped (绊倒) over someone’s foot accidentally and THUMP! He fell down onto the floor.
Every one of us on the bus looked on and laughed crazily. Ryan struggled to his feet, dusted (擦灰) off his jacket and made his way to an empty seat. He tried to laugh with us, but his face was burning with embarrassment (尴尬). The rest of the morning flew by. I did well in my math test. I read two more chapters of To Kill a Mockingbird in English class. It wasn’t long before we heard the lunch bell. I met my friends from the cheerleading (拉拉队) team in the dining hall. Then I couldn’t help but notice Ryan a few tables away, sitting all alone. He caught me looking. I smiled at him quickly and looked away.
When we had finished eating, we went out to the courtyard to practice a cheer we would do at that night’s football game. After much practice, we finally managed to do the cheer perfectly. We decided to practice it again one last time. Again, just like the rest of my day so far, the cheer was going great. I raised my leg for one last toe (脚趾) touch. RIIPPP! I felt my jeans broken, in the middle of my backside (臀部).
I froze (呆住). I had no idea what to do but stand still. Then I heard people burst out laughing and I saw them pointing at my torn jeans. Trying to cover myself with my hands, I tried to laugh too, but I felt tears begin to well up in my eyes.

As the school year wrapped up and the first days of summer vacation stretched out before them, Max, Ava, and Sam had a perfect day planned at their usual community park. This tidy little park was their go - to spot for unwinding and just enjoying some precious leisure time.
Max rushed ahead with a soccer ball under his arm, Ava and Sam trailing closely behind, full of energy. It was the kind of day that promised endless fun and carefree laughter. But as they stepped into the park, their heart sank. The once - beloved playground was now a chaotic mess of discarded trash (乱扔的垃圾) — candy wrappers stuck in the slide’s metal bars, plastic bottles rolling in the wind, and chip bags lying underfoot.
“Look at this!” Ava shouted in disbelief as she pointed to the garbage near the swings.
Max’s face darkened with frustration. The three friends stood frozen, their eyes scanning the playground area. The once clean slides and swings were now buried under a layer of candy wrappers and plastic bottles. Ava cast a glance (瞥一眼) at the walking trails, where garbage seemed to have taken over, with discarded bags and cans lying everywhere. Sam looked out at the grassy fields — a disaster. The park was vast, but every corner seemed to have been touched by the carelessness of others.
“Who would be so thoughtless?” Max whispered, shaking his head.
Sam kicked a plastic bottle in anger, sending it flying across the grass. “It’s not just thoughtless — it’s disrespectful.”
Ava sighed thoughtfully but suddenly her face lit up. “We can’t just leave it like this. Why don’t we do something about it? We can, say, form a Cleanup Squad (清洁小分队)…” she said, her voice soft but determined.

Passage 1
(24-25高二·江苏南京·期中)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm golden glow over the quiet town, Emily sat on the edge of her bed, staring at the blank page in her journal. She had always been a diligent student, excelling in academics and extracurricular activities, but lately, she felt a growing sense of unease. It was as if something was missing, something she couldn’t quite put her finger on. She sighed, tapping her pen against the paper, and decided to take a walk to clear her mind.
The cool evening breeze brushed against her face as she wandered through the familiar streets of her neighborhood. She passed by the park where she used to play as a child, the library where she spent countless hours studying, and the café where she and her friends would gather after school. Each place held memories, but they also reminded her of the expectations she had been carrying — expectations from her parents, her teachers, and even herself. She had always been the “perfect” student, the one who never made mistakes, the one who always knew what to do. But now, she felt lost.
As she walked, she noticed a small, weathered bookstore tucked away in a corner she had never explored before. The sign above the door read, “The Journey Within.” Interested, Emily pushed open the door and stepped inside. The air was filled with the scent of old books and the soft hum of a record player in the background. The shelves were lined with books of all shapes and sizes, their spines worn from years of use. Emily’s eyes were drawn to a particular book titled The Courage to Be Imperfect. She picked it up and began to read.
The book spoke of the importance of embracing one’s flaws, of learning to be vulnerable (脆弱的), and of finding strength in imperfection. As Emily turned the pages, she felt a sense of relief wash over her. For the first time, she realized that it was okay not to have all the answers, that it was okay to make mistakes, and that growth often came from the moments when things didn’t go as planned.

A sudden shake made Anna White awake. Rubbing her eyes, she noticed the vase on the corner table shaking. It was just going to fall from the corner, but she managed to catch it just in time. Then she realized that it must be an earthquake. She rushed downstairs to look for her parents and brother. But everyone was sleeping soundly as it was just 3 in the morning. She screamed, “MOM! DAD! CHASE!” Her heart pounded as the quake continued. She knew what was happening, but what should she do?
“CHASE ...!” she called her elder brother Chase again. Chase had got up and was on the stairs. He was very scared when he felt the stairs shaking. He was about to fall on the stairs but quickly grabbed the railing (扶手)for support. “What was that?” he asked and looked towards Anna who was sitting under a table in the dining room and he quickly joined her.
Their mother, Lisa, soon appeared in the dining room. She’d felt the shaking from her room. Realizing it was an earthquake, she quickly came under the table with them and asked Chase and Anna if they were OK. Her eyes stared nervously at the door.
“Where’s Dad?” Chase asked after a moment, his voice tense. Anna’s stomach tightened with worry. They knew their father, a doctor, was often called away for emergency cases, sometimes even at night.
Lisa hesitated, her voice trembling, “He went on an emergency call ... We just need to stay safe. Dad will be fine. Don’t worry about him.”
Tears welled in her eyes as the weight of the situation sank in. The idea of him being out there, in the middle of an earthquake, was terrifying.
Suddenly, a loud crash came from the building next door. Through the window, they saw a nearby building shaking violently, sending clouds of dust into the air.
“This is too dangerous,” Chase said, glancing around. Without another word, they grabbed each other’s hands and ran out of the building.

Passage 3
(2022·广东深圳·期中)阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
On a hot September afternoon, Peter and his friend Isabel were on their way to the library. When they passed by Tubman park, Isabel suggested cutting through it to get to the library. As they entered the park, the sight of the swings (秋千) and the merry-go-round brought back a flood of memories of their childhood spent there. But now everything looked so old, sad, and dirty. Litter lay on the ground next to an overflowing trash bin (垃圾箱). There were still young schoolchildren playing there but they had to avoid the trash that littered the playground. A little boy told them that the city had taken the other trash cans away and the last one wasn’t emptied very often.
As they headed toward the library, the two high school students wrinkled their forehead. In the library, they encountered Mrs. Evans, their kind-hearted fifth-grade teacher, retired yet still passionate. Mrs. Evans listened as Isabel and Peter eagerly explained what they’d seen. Finally, she recommended them to go to the City Hall to voice their concerns.
The next day, Isabel and Peter went into the building of the City Hall but were met with an impatient officer. They were informed that the city couldn’t help with their problem due to a tight budget. Discouraged, they left and turned to Mrs. Evans for help.
Under her guidance, they decided to ask Go Green, a non-profit organization whose goal is to protect the environment, for help. “This group is good at raising money for projects just like yours,” said Mrs. Evans. She promised to arrange them to present their ideas to Go Green. Hearing this, their face lit up.
Two main tasks remained ahead: researching ways to clean up the park and preparing a convincing presentation (陈述). As Isabel was good at researching while Peter always had a talent for speaking, they cooperated quite well. Isabel learned from a science magazine that a new type of trash bin can squeeze the trash down without being emptied often, which saves time, money, and energy. Based on this, Peter practiced his presentation over and over again.

Mia suddenly stopped when she heard a loud scream. She quickly turned on the small, dusty path, worrying that her friend Lily was in trouble. But Lily was just standing in flowers up to her waist, which covered the meadow (草地) like a colorful blanket.
“Lily, you really scared me!” Mia said, her voice echoed across the meadow. “I’m sorry,” Lily replied, and still focused on taking pictures with her camera, not noticing the thick fog starting to cover the nearby mountains. “Not again!” Mia said, looking at the clouds coming closer. “We have to go now!” Lily was so busy taking photos of the beautiful scene that she hardly noticed the weather changing. Mia, now wearing a red scarf on her head, said, “We need to go back to our camp.” The two girls ran down the winding path, which was covered in heavy fog and hit by cold rain. The path was very slippery, so they had to be careful not to fall. “This is dangerous! We need to find shelter right away!” Lily yelled as loud as thunder sounded, showing the storm was getting worse. Mia saw a small cave in the cliff, partly hidden by plants. It wasn’t a big shelter, but it was better than being in the rain. “Lily, come here!” Mia called out, her voice almost lost in the strong wind. Lily, wet and shaking, walked unsteadily towards Mia’s voice. As she got closer, she saw the cave. It wasn’t perfect, but it was a safe place from the storm.
“You’re smart, Mia,” Lily said, her teeth chattering (打颤) from the cold, holding her backpack tightly. The backpack, which was strong and waterproof, was a gift from her father, an experienced hiker who always said it was important to have space for emergency supplies. On this difficult day, they realized how important his advice was.

Honesty Won’t Let You Down
Asad was a 13-year-old boy who was very honest and hardworking. Recently, he had entered a new school, so he had no friends yet. One Monday morning, he was nearly late for school. The night before, his family attended his cousin’s wedding and reached home late, which was why he couldn’t get up on time as usual.
At school, Asad could not pay attention to anything and wanted the bell to ring so that he could buy something to eat. After a few hours, when the bell rang, Asad quickly opened his schoolbag to find his money, but just then he remembered that he had left for school in a hurry in the morning and forgotten to take money. He looked under his books, hoping to find some money but there was nothing.
Not knowing what to do, he walked out of the classroom and sat on a bench in front of the canteen. He saw a few of his classmates there, among whom was Fahad. He was one of the richest kids in his class, but he was a very arrogant boy who thought everyone else was a loser. But as Asad was new, he didn’t know much about Fahad.
When he went towards Fahad and asked if he could borrow some money for his lunch, Fahad laughed and said, “I didn’t know you were a loser, maybe a beggar?” Fahad laughed out so loud that other kids also heard it and made fun of the situation. Asad didn’t answer Fahad, and slowly walked back towards an empty bench.
When he reached the bench, he noticed something lying near it. It was a wallet. He picked it up and recognized it was Fahad’s, as he remembered Fahad showing it to his friends and telling them that his uncle had bought it for him from the UK. There was quite a lot of money inside for a kid.

【答案】范文:
But then, she heard a familiar voice, “Go, Mia! You can do it!” It was Emma. Mia turned her head slightly and saw her best friend waving a big banner enthusiastically. The encouragement was like a spark that reignited the fire in her heart. She clenched her fists and summoned up all her remaining strength. Ignoring the pain in her legs and the shortness of breath, she quickened her pace. With every step, she felt more determined.
With just 50 meters to go, she could barely breathe. Her legs were heavy, but her mind was clear. She was so close to the finish line. The image of her family and friends waiting for her at the end spurred her on. Summoning every bit of strength left in her body, she dashed forward. As she crossed the finish line, the crowd erupted in cheers. Mia was tired but overjoyed. She had achieved what she set out to do, and that was more precious than any medal.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
With that thought, Leo hurried home and picked up his pencil. All through the night, he worked — sketching, erasing, and redrawing, completely absorbed in the moment. The paper became messy, covered with uneven lines. However, so eager was Leo to express his concern for the planet that he no longer cared about the poster’s appearance. He sketched a tired Earth sitting alone in a park, holding a cardboard sign that read “I’m doing my best. Are you?” Around it, he drew scenes from his own life like garbage on sidewalks and factories in the distance. Though the drawings lacked technical perfection, they were real. And that, Leo thought, might just be enough.
On the day of the competition, Leo submitted his poster with repeated revisions. So powerful was its message that students who usually walked past without interest stopped to look. Many were moved, not by how the poster looked, but by what it said. The judges recognized its emotional weight too, awarding it the “Best Impact Award”. Hung at the school entrance, the poster sparked genuine conversations. It was the message that stayed in their minds. From that day on, Leo understood something he had never believed before: Truth can be more powerful than perfection.

On the day of Catherine’s birthday, she went to school and found her classroom in total darkness. A wave of confusion washed over her as she stepped hesitantly into the room, her heart pounding. She reached for the light switch, but before her hand could find it, a chorus of voices broke the silence. “Surprise!”, her classmates, led by Sandy, jumped out from all sorts of hiding places. As the room flooded with light, Catherine’s eyes widened in surprise and disbelief. The classroom was decorated with balloons and streamers, a beautiful cake sat on the teacher’s desk, and in the corner, a pile of presents waited to be unwrapped.
Tears sprang from Catherine’s eyes and her face broke into a radiant smile. She turned towards Jane, who was grinning from ear to ear. “We knew you couldn’t have a party this year, so we decided to bring the party to you,” Sandy said, her eyes twinkling with mischief. The cloud of confusion lifted from Catherine’s mind as she realized that her friends hadn’t been distancing themselves from her, they were planning this surprise all along. The sadness that had been looming over her birthday disappeared, replaced with joy and gratitude. As she cut the cake and opened her presents, Catherine realized that this was indeed a grand birthday party, just like the ones she used to have.

【答案】
Tim knew his mistake had cost the team dearly. He couldn’t help but blame himself for the failure. As he sat on the edge of the track, tears of frustration welled up in his eyes. He thought about all the hard work and dedication they had put into training, and how it had all seemed to be in vain because of his one moment of carelessness. He wondered if his teammates would ever forgive him, and if he would ever be able to make up for what he had done.
Just then, Mark, Jack, and Alex appeared. They walked up to Tim and sat down beside him. Mark placed a comforting hand on Tim’s shoulder and said, “Hey, it’s not your fault. These things happen. We’re a team, and we all make mistakes.” Jack nodded in agreement, adding, “We didn’t lose because of you. We lost because we didn’t work together well enough in that moment. Let’s learn from this and come back stronger next time.” Alex smiled and patted Tim on the back, saying, “We’re still proud of you, and we know you’ll do better next time. We’re in this together.”

With Miss Green’s guidance and encouragement, he kept painting and soon created a beautiful picture.
As the day came to an end, we struggled to Disney’s town square, hoping we might find her there while watching the Electrical Parade (游行), the beautiful parade of lights, music and Disney characters. I was sitting on the ground and watching the moving parade. Along came Mickey Mouse! And then Minnie Mouse! And then Daffy Duck and Cinderella!注意:1.续写词数为150左右;

【答案】 And then along came Grandma Betty! There she was in the middle of the Disney parade, literally marching in all her glory, keeping beat with the band. She was nodding and waving at the crowd, looking pleased with herself! I called out to my mom and pointed toward Grandma. My mom rushed into the middle of the parade group and caught my grandma’s arm. Grandma looked over, somewhat surprised to see a familiar face, and walked out of the line of Disney characters.
We asked her why she was in the parade. “A parade?” she was surprised. She didn’t know that she was in a parade! When she saw the crowd of people all headed in one direction, she figured that if she walked with them, she could possibly find all of us! Everyone was waving at her, so she waved back, thinking people here were certainly friendly! She didn’t know she was one of the rare few who got to participate in that world-famous Disney parade, perhaps having the most magical time of us all!

【答案】范文
I was holding the pants tightly under my arm when my mother went to pay the money. I saw her take a tiny brown envelope from her purse, tear the sealed envelope open and remove the contents. There were four brand-new one-dollar bills inside. She carefully unfolded them and handed them to the seller. The seller gave my mother the fifty cents change. Feeling greatly curious, how did she manage to get such a large sum of money? Maybe my parents found new jobs with a higher salary.
With the question in my mind, we took the trolley back home. Sitting next to my mother on the trolley, I had the window seat and looked out. I even imagined Father had come home early and prepared a wonderful meal. About halfway home, I glanced down at my mother's hands folded across her purse, which was resting on her lap. It was then that I saw the gold wedding ring that had always encircled her ring finger on her left hand was no longer there. Deeply moved by what my mum had done, I truly understood everything and embraced my mum tightly, with tears rolling down.

【答案】But hours later, my friends ran up to me, their eyes shining with excitement. They couldn’t wait to tell me how my dad’s bridge was the talk of the school. So unique was his design that it had everyone amazed. It not only withstood the weight test effortlessly but also looked incredibly elegant. I was dumbfounded, my initial shock gradually turning into a sense of pride that I couldn’t contain. The image of my embarrassing dad started to fade, replaced by one of a creative and capable man.
That evening, I gathered all my courage and walked to dad. Standing before him, I said sincerely, “Dad, I heard about your amazing achievement in the physics project. I’m truly proud of you.” His eyes widened in surprise, and then a warm smile spread across his face. He pulled me into a hug, saying, “Son, your words mean everything to me.” At that moment, I felt a strong bond rekindling between us. From then on, I began to see my dad in a new light, appreciating his uniqueness and loving him more deeply than ever.

He looked out at the sea of faces, his eyes landing on his father. With a final adjustment of his guitar, he began to play. His fingers danced across the strings, and the music filled the hall. At first, there was a slight tremble in his playing, but as he got lost in the melody, his confidence grew. The audience sat spellbound, and by the end of the performance, the hall erupted into thunderous applause. Jack felt a huge sense of relief and pride wash over him.
“I didn’t know you could play like that,” his father said. “You were great.” A big smile spread across Jack’s face. “Thanks, Dad. I couldn’t have done it without your support.” His father put his arm around Jack’s shoulders. “I always knew you had it in you, son. I’m so proud of you.” Jack realized that his father’s quiet presence and unspoken love had been the driving force behind his success.

Simon gave Charlie a pat on the back and smiled. He wiped away Charlie’s tears and said, “You know what, Charlie. What really matters is not about being the fastest. It is about giving it your all and surpassing your previous self.” He promised to train with Charlie together. From that day on, Simon woke up early to run with Charlie. Simon would teach Charlie all his secrets to running fast and staying strong. And with each passing day, Charlie’s confidence grew, and so did his speed. Charlie was no longer just a fan on the sidelines; he was a runner with his own dreams to chase.
Two weeks later, Charlie stood at the starting line. His legs were a little shaky but his heart was full of courage. With each breath, he remembered Simon’s words, “You’re not just running a race, Charlie. You’re running towards your courage.” Charlie’s feet found a rhythm on the track, and he ran with a determination that surprised even himself. The crowd around him faded away, and all he could hear was Simon’s cheers, guiding him to the finish line. It was a day Charlie would never forget, a day when he learned that with belief and brotherly love, he could have the strength to keep going on any race in life.

【答案】The team of volunteers came forward to help, with a desire to make a difference. Equipped with brooms and mops, they immediately got down to work. It took them hours to completely clean up the poop of Homer, wash the dirty carpet and build a new railing for the stairs. When they finally put everything in order, the volunteers decided that they would also come up with a plan for further support. They posted the pictures of Mr. Ronald and his newly decorated house on social media, gave a detailed description of the situation and appealed to more people to offer a helping hand. (89词)
Seeing the post from the Internet, more people joined in, donating their time and resources. They even organized a schedule to take turns to visit Mr. Ronald weekly, ensuring he had all the support he needed to maintain his home and chasing away his loneliness. The busy and cheerful volunteers moved Mr. Ronald to tears. He couldn’t help but thank them over and over again. Seeing the brand new house and the grateful face of Mr. Ronald, Mulvihill was amazed how her single act of kindness rippled outward and ended up with something remarkable. (79词)

【答案】One possible version:

She said that without Christine’s generous help, everything would have been much worse. Christine introduced herself, and gave the woman her business card, saying she could take the dog to her pet hospital for a checkup if she still felt worried. The woman took the card and walked to her car. After the woman’s car moved away, the traffic quickly returned to normal.
Christine arrived at her office, expecting to see the woman again. In the afternoon, she saw the woman walking into the hospital with the dog and a bouquet of flowers as her gift. The woman told Christine that the dog was important to her, hoping everything would be OK with her dog. After a thorough examination of the dog, Christine told the woman the dog was fine. Hearing Christine’s words, the woman felt grateful and totally relieved.

(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
I hurried into the theater, only to find there were even more bikers inside.

When the film began, I realized that the bikers were an animal rescue group.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】I hurried into the theater, only to find there were even more bikers inside. They were chatting loudly and seemed to fill every corner of the place. My heart sank even further. I quickly found an empty seat in the back row, trying to make myself as inconspicuous as possible. I clutched my bag tightly, constantly glancing around, praying that nothing bad would happen. Every now and then, I peeked at the bikers, wondering what they were doing here. Were they going to cause trouble? The tension in the air was palpable, and I regretted my decision to come alone.
When the film began, I realized that the bikers were an animal rescue group. They had come to support the fundraiser for the local animal shelters. As the documentary unfolded, showing the plight of the abandoned dogs, I saw many of the bikers wiping away tears. They were as moved as I was by the heartwarming and heartbreaking stories. During the intermission, some of them even came over to me, smiling kindly and asking if I was enjoying the film. Their tough exteriors hid big, soft hearts. I felt ashamed of my initial fear and was truly grateful that I had decided to come.

【答案】Then I saw Ryan running towards me. Suddenly the scene struck me where he fell flat and I laughed at him crazily. I thought this would be his chance to return the favor. I lowered my head, my face burning with embarrassment. But unexpectedly Ryan didn't laugh. Instead, he approached me from behind, took off his jacket swiftly and offered it to me, signaling to me to cover my torn jeans. Without any delay, I did it. Struggling against my tears, l did want to express my gratitude to him but courage failed me. In total silence, I left the courtyard.
That night, after the cheer at the football game, I found Ryan. I thanked him, giving the jacket back to him and telling him the cheer went great. Then gathering my courage, I sincerely apologized to him for my misconduct on the bus and thanked him again for his helping me out of the desperate situation. Ryan, with a broad smile, patted me on the shoulder and told me to forget about that, joking he fell like that a lot. Hearing that, I was amused and convinced that he was someone I would be friends with. Honestly, Monday was a great day indeed!

Max and Sam exchanged an excited glance. “That’s a great idea, Ava!” Max exclaimed. Sam nodded in agreement, his eyes shining with determination. Without hesitation, they quickly divided the tasks. Max ran to fetch some trash bags from his nearby home. Ava and Sam started collecting the larger pieces of garbage first, like the chip bags and plastic bottles. As they worked, Ava hummed a little tune, and the others joined in. Their laughter and songs filled the park, making the cleanup seem more like a fun game.
Unexpectedly, other parkgoers joined in as they did the cleanup. An elderly couple, who were taking a stroll, saw what they were doing and decided to lend a hand. A group of kids playing nearby also came over, eager to help make the park clean again. With more people joining, the cleanup went much faster. Before long, the playground was clean once more. The slides and swings sparkled in the sun, and the grassy fields were free of trash. Max, Ava, and Sam looked at each other, beaming with pride. They realized that with everyone’s effort, they could make a difference and keep their beloved park beautiful.

【答案】One possible version:
Over the next few weeks, Emily began to apply the lessons from the book to her own life. She raised her hand in math class to admit she’d forgotten the quadratic formula — only to find half the class nodding in relief. At the poetry club’s open mic night, her first attempt at free verse, riddled with crossed-out words and uneven metaphors, earned snaps instead of silence. When she confessed to her best friend how much she feared being “found out” as inadequate, the response was a tight hug and “Me too”. The standing ovation after her poem wasn’t for flawless delivery, but for the way her voice cracked precisely on the word “vulnerable”.
As she sat down to write in her journal again, Emily smiled. The pages now bore coffee rings and doodled stars framing entries like: “Spilled orange juice on my white shirt before the debate — but my ‘juice stain defense strategy’ got more laughs than the opposing team’s arguments.” She ran a finger over yesterday’s smudged ink where she’d written “Perfection is a lonely museum; I’m planting dandelions instead.” She closed the journal, realizing perfection wasn’t the goal; courage to embrace imperfection was.

【答案】Paragraph 1:
They managed to arrive at the street and saw a chaotic scene. People were rushing past, many with faces pale with fear, while others were helping those who had fallen or were injured. A young man was supporting an elderly man, and a woman was comforting a child who was crying. Despite the panic and chaos, there was a sense of unity-neighbors helping neighbors, strangers offering assistance. Anna noticed volunteers and rescue workers pushing through the crowd, and found comfort in these small acts of kindness - a brief glimmer of hope in the chaos.
Paragraph 2:
In the middle of the rescue workers, Anna spotted a familiar face - her father. He was helping an injured man, his medical bag open beside him. “Dad!” she shouted, running toward him. He looked up, his face covered in dust, but his expression calm and focused.“ Stay back and keep safe,” he said, gently guiding Anna and her family to safety.“ I ‘ m helping these people. We need to stay away from the worst - hit areas.” Anna ‘ s heart swelled with relief and pride as she watched the surrounding people. Though the world around them seemed to fall apart, Anna knew they would survive the disaster with love.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
A week later, Peter stood nervously at the back of the hall where Go Green was meeting. His palms were sweaty as he clutched his notecards, nervously reviewing the key points one last time. When called upon, he stepped forward and began speaking with growing confidence. Using vivid photos of Tubman Park’s current state and diagrams of the innovative trash bins, he explained how this solution could transform their childhood playground. He emphasized the community impact — how clean parks foster healthier children and stronger neighborhoods. The board members listened intently, nodding as he presented cost estimates and maintenance plans. By the end, even the sternest faces had softened into smiles.
After the meeting, Isabel excitedly told Peter the good news. Go Green had not only approved their proposal but also pledged to fund the installation of five self-compacting trash bins and organize monthly volunteer clean-ups. Better yet, they’d connected the teens with a city council member who promised to advocate for restored park funding. Overwhelmed with joy, the two immediately texted Mrs. Evans, who replied, “Proud of you both! This is just the beginning.” The following weekend, they gathered classmates to remove litter from Tubman Park, their laughter mixing with the rustle of trash bags — a sound of change in motion.

Passage 4

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】“Look in your backpack and what’s in it can help us a lot.” Mia said, sounding hopeful. Lily quickly unzipped her backpack, her cold fingers fumbling with the zipper. Inside, they found a thermal blanket, a small first-aid kit, a flashlight, and some energy bars. “Perfect!” Mia exclaimed as she wrapped the blanket around their shoulders, its silver surface reflecting the dim light of the cave. The warmth slowly seeped into their shivering bodies, easing the chill. Meanwhile, Lily turned on the flashlight, its beam cutting through the darkness and revealing the rough walls of the cave. They huddled together, sharing an energy bar, their spirits lifted by the simple comforts. Outside, the storm raged on, but inside the cave, they felt a glimmer of safety.
Thanks to the thermal blanket, the two could survive the night and wait for the storm to stop. As dawn broke, the rain lessened, and the fog began to lift. Mia peeked outside and saw the first rays of sunlight filtering through the clouds. “It’s clearing up!” she announced. Lily, now more composed, checked her camera, relieved to find it unharmed. They packed their belongings and stepped out of the cave, the fresh scent of rain-soaked earth filling the air. The meadow, though battered by the storm, still held its beauty. With renewed energy, they followed the path back to their camp, their adventure leaving them with a deeper appreciation for preparedness and friendship.

Paragraph 2: Then Fahad said, “Why are you giving it back?”
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 Paragraph 1: At first, Asad wanted to keep it a secret and punish Fahad. At least he could afford the lunch now. However, another voice popped up, urging him to give it back to Fahad, which made him feel torn. “I should never keep the wallet at the cost of my honesty, and Fahad would be extremely worried when he found he lost the wallet!” Asad convinced himself. Once he made up his mind, he accelerated his pace and caught Fahad up. “Fahad, it’s your wallet and I found it on the bench.” Taking over the wallet, Fahad stared into Asad’s eyes, surprised and puzzled.
Paragraph 2: Then Fahad said, “Why are you giving it back?” He even looked into his wallet, obviously doubtful about Asad’s act. Asad explained calmly and patiently, “I had originally wanted to keep it secret as a punishment for your arrogance, but being honest matters more to me.” Hearing what Asad had said, Fahad felt his face burning with shame. He hugged Asad, thanking Asad for saving him from the trouble and apologizing to the classmates around for calling them losers. “You are my friend now. Would you like to join me for lunch?” Fahad turned to Asad.
