“What is your name?” is a question most frequently asked when people meet for the first time. But for me, it was the first challenge I encountered as an international student in Ireland.
The pronunciation system of the Chinese language is quite different from that of English. For native speakers of English, some Chinese words are rather difficult to pronounce. My given name Qiuyu (秋雨), for instance, happened to be a great challenge for many of them. Every time I gave a self-introduction, I had to explain how to pronounce my name at least five times, yet they still could not say it the way I did.
Once in a lecture, the professor tried repeating my name after me over and over in front of thirty classmates. I really did not know whether I should continue correcting him or simply drop the matter. I feared that my classmates might grow tired of my efforts or even lose patience with me. After all, I did care about how others would think of me. I realized that if I didn’t stop, the entire lecture would be ruined.
“It’s okay, professor,” I shrugged (耸肩). The awkward moment ended with the class erupting into laughter. I forced a smile, unsure how to respond further.
After that incident, I stopped acting as a “Chinese teacher.” Instead of correcting others when they were struggling to pronounce my name, I just smiled and nodded approvingly. This approach spared me the discomfort of having to over-explain.
However, I soon found that by doing so, I might be losing something more important: the opportunity to share a small part of my cultural identity.
In a class discussion, I was invited to explain the meaning of my name. At first, I hesitated because of the previous awkward moments. But then I decided to take the opportunity. “In Chinese, ‘Qiu’ means ‘autumn’ and ‘Yu’ means ‘rain.’ In my culture, the autumn rain nourishes the earth and brings people harvest.” The professor nodded and to my surprise, many classmates began to mimic the sound and the rhythm of my name. Their interest and effort made me feel proud of our culture. I came to know that my name is not only a symbol, but also a doorway to Chinese culture.
Many of my classmates got interested and came up to me after class. “What a poetic name you’ve got” one girl said. “Could you teach us to say it correctly?” Another classmate asked, “Maybe you could share more about Chinese culture with us sometime.” This time, I didn’t shrug. I talked with them with extreme patience and warmth. Their curiosity and laughter made me realize that sharing our cultural identity is meaningful. From then on, I began to see my name as a bridge to connect different worlds.

A.He decided to change his name to an English one.
B.He continued to correct people’s pronunciation patiently.
C.He avoided explaining the pronunciation of his name anymore.
D.He asked the professor to help him introduce his name.
26.The word “nourishes” in Paragraph 7 most probably means ______.
A.destroys B.feeds and helps grow C.washes away D.cools down

California-based Greatfill offers a zero-waste solution with reusable household products. It focuses on the health of the home, humans, and the environment.
Greatfill produces eco-friendly hand wash, body wash, dish soap, multipurpose cleaner and so on. The naturally-sourced ingredients list is proudly displayed on the website and the bag. Each product’s starter kit comes with a durable food-grade steel bottle in various colors, which is reusable and has a lifetime guarantee. This helps avoid plastic spray and pump bottles. Not only does this promote a solution for plastic waste, but the steel bottles pair with the company’s reusable fill-bags. With your first order, Greatfill sends a postage-paid envelope. After using refill bags, you can simply drop them into the envelope and return them to the company for sterilization (消毒) and reuse.
Greatfill claims to be the only U.S. company offering a completely zero-waste solution. While the zero waste aspect benefits the planet all along the supply chain, the products focus on maintaining a safe environment within the home. In addition to using natural ingredients, all products are vegan friendly and are never tested on animals. The company’s mission is: “To avoid single-use plastic by making refilling convenient, affordable and fun.” The inspiration came from the fact that the global recycling for plastic waste is ineffective. It’s a member of 1% for the Planet, donating 1% of sales to environmental charities.
Products can be ordered online and will soon be in retail (零售) stores. Reviewers love the products for their mild scents, performance, and zero-waste features. The body wash has a pleasing scent and thick consistency, and the multipurpose cleaner effectively cleans various surfaces without leaving a film (薄膜) or having an unbearable smell.

Researchers from Norwegian University of Science and Technology have looked at the connection between physical activity and brain health. The findings show that the brain definitely benefits from physical activity.
The research evaluated evidence from both animal and human studies. It points out that our body mechanisms (机制) like blood flow, immune function, brain plasticity, and the release of protective chemicals in the blood will weaken with age, which plays an important role in the development of dementia (痴呆). However, physical activity can be one effective way to help slow down the process, reducing the risk of dementia and promote healthy brain aging.
Today, the recommendation is at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity (中等强度) or 75 minutes of high intensity each week. Fully 50% to 70% of the population does not manage today’s activity recommendations.
However, based on the reality, Atefe R. Tari, one of the researchers, suggested that microtraining (going from no activity to adding brief strength training into everyday life) be included in the recommendations from Norwegian health authorities. He noted that exercising much less than what the current recommendations can provide great benefits — as long as the intensity of the training is high.
“Our review shows that even small amounts of high-intensity activity — similar to fast walking where you can’t sing — can reduce the risk of dementia by up to 40%. A little is better than nothing. We believe it’s time for health authorities to make some adjustments on how important exercise is for the brain — it may be what encourages people to get started,” says Tari.
In a commentary in Nature Medicine, American researchers even argued that public guidelines need to be updated. As life expectancy increases, dementia is becoming a major public health challenge. Since there is still no cure, prevention is crucial. “Exercise is cheap, accessible and has no side effects. It should be considered a first-line measure to preserve brain health,” Tari says.
32.What is the main finding of the research?
A.Regular physical activity helps cure dementia.
B.It’s difficult to follow exercise recommendations.
C.High-intensity exercise is less effective for health.
D.Exercise protects aging brains against dementia.
33.What does paragraph 2 mainly talk about?
A.How exercise influences brain health.
B.Possible risks of developing dementia.
C.Effects exercise has on animals and humans.
D.Why our body mechanisms begin to weaken.
34.Why does Tari suggest microtraining?
A.Most people prefer exercising in groups.
B.It is more achievable for ordinary people.
C.It is more enjoyable than regular exercise.
D.Current recommendations are unscientific.
35.What is American researchers’ attitude toward microtraining?
A.Doubtful. B.Curious. C.Supportive. D.Disapproving.
【答案】32.D 33.A 34.B 35.C
【导语】本文是一篇说明文。主要介绍挪威科技大学研究发现运动有益大脑健康,可减缓衰老、降低痴呆风险,并建议调整运动建议纳入微训练。
32.细节理解题。根据第一段中的“The findings show that the brain definitely benefits from physical activity. (研究结果表明,大脑确实能从体育活动中获益。)”以及第二段中的“However, physical activity can be one effective way to help slow down the process, reducing the risk of dementia and promote healthy brain aging. (然而,体育活动是帮助减缓这一过程、降低痴呆风险并促进大脑健康衰老的有效方法之一。)”可知,研究的主要发现是运动能保护衰老的大脑,降低痴呆风险。故选D项。
33.主旨大意题。根据第二段中的“The research evaluated evidence from both animal and human studies. 故选A项。
34.推理判断题。根据第三段中的“Fully 50% to 70% of the population does not manage today’s activity recommendations. (有50%到70%的人无法达到目前的运动建议。)”以及第四段中的“However, based on the reality, Atefe R. Tari, one of the researchers, suggested that microtraining (going from no activity to adding brief strength training into everyday life) be included in the recommendations from Norwegian health authorities. (然而,基于现实情况,研究人员之一阿特菲·R·塔里建议将微训练(从无运动状态到在日常生活中加入短暂的力量训练)纳入挪威卫生部门的建议中。)”可知,塔里建议微训练是因为多数人无法达到现有运动标准,而微训练更易完成,对普通人来说更可行。故选B项。
35.推理判断题。根据尾段中的“In a commentary in Nature Medicine, American researchers even argued that public guidelines need to be updated. (在美国《自然·医学》杂志的一篇评论中,美国研究人员甚至认为公共指南需要更新。)”以及前文提到塔里建议纳入微训练以完善现有指南可知,美国研究人员主张更新指南,与塔里的建议方向一致,即对微训练持支持态度。故选C项。
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Trashion (垃圾时尚) is a term for art, jewelry, and fashion created from used, thrown-out, found and repurposed elements. 36 However, as recycling and “green” fashion become more and more popular, trashion is now widely used to describe any wearable item or accessory that is constructed using all or part recycled materials.
Trashion is a philosophy including environmentalism and innovation. 37 Like upcycling, trashion generates items that are valued again, but these may be low-cost or high-cost, perhaps depending on the skill of the artist. The environmental aim of trashion is to call attention to the polluting result of waste.
38 For example, in 2006, Julia Genatossio held Monsoon Vermont, a trashion design house. The company designs items such as umbrellas, shower curtains and backpacks which are made from Jakarta’s recycled trash. Unlike other charity activities, it was a for-profit business activity.
Trashion design can include a wide variety of home goods, from tables to vases. People believe that by re-using unwanted items, they are both benefiting the environment and the items themselves, by giving such items a new purpose in life. Trashion can also be an interesting exploration for artists, who push themselves to think about things in new ways. 39
One of the great things about trashion is that it is accessible to anyone who feels creative and resourceful, unlike traditional fashion, which tends to be costly and elitist (精英统治的). 40 Someone who wears trashion clothes to a function, for example, can be confident that no one else will be wearing the same.
A.Trashion is for saving energy.
B.Trashion is also unique.
C.Trashion has become a very popular style of art.

【答案】
Dear Jim,
I’m sorry to learn that you’re troubled by the large amount of false or inaccurate information on online media.
Without doubt, the rapid development of social media brings us a variety of news, enabling us to communicate freely. But some false news or information also gets the chance to spread widely. As for it, I’d like to give you some advice. First, it is wise to read news reports from various perspectives and identify the content of the news reasonably. Moreover, we need to be critical about the information we receive and remember not to blindly trust what we have read.
With great discrimination, everyone has the potential to be a critical news reader. (hope what I say) may help you a little.
Yours,
Li Hua

第二节(满分25分)
67.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
On my last first day of elementary school, I felt my heart beating fast as I stepped into the classroom. My fourth-grade report wasn’t good, and “Needs Improvement” comments made me nervous and uneasy all the time. Although I worked very hard, I failed the final exam. Almost every time the teacher asked me to answer a question, my voice shook. But the moment Mr. Harrison —or “Mr. H”, as he insisted we call him — greeted us with a smile, my nerves disappeared gradually. “Welcome to the fifth grade! Take any seat you like,” he said with a warm voice. Young and energetic, he had a way of making even the shyest students feel at ease. I chose a desk near the front due to my nearsightedness, grateful for his approachable behaviour.
Mr. H was an encouraging class and math teacher and he made learning exciting with his fun ideas and positive attitude. It did not matter whether you were the best or worst student in the class. What he did made you feel you were special. I remember the day when Mr. H announced, “Everyone, we have new students joining the class.” He was holding a cage with three tiny gerbils (沙鼠). Everyone shouted with joy. “They’re part of our family now,” he declared, and indeed, under his guidance, the classroom felt like one. Smiley faces were his trademark. He always put a smiley face on the chalkboard, homework and test papers.
When I failed my first math quiz, he drew a smiley face beside my score and wrote, “Let’s figure this out together.” After class, he pulled me aside, “You’re smarter than you think,” he said. His words carried a quiet certainty that made me sit up straight. They weren’t empty praise—they were an invitation to see myself differently. “But we need to find a way that works for you,” he continued. And he meant it.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
He stayed late twice a week to help me with my math.

【答案】
He stayed late twice a week to help me with my math. Every Tuesday and Thursday after school, our empty classroom became a laboratory of learning where mistakes weren’t failures, but clues to solving the puzzles. He broke down maths problems into stories. His creative teaching way and encouraging words made me realize I wasn’t bad at school and that I just needed a guiding way. Slowly, my Ds became Cs, and then Bs. But more than grades, the way he celebrated tiny victories — smiley faces on my homework — gave me confidence.
By the end of the term, something unexpected happened. I raised my hand in class without hesitation for the first time. When Mr. H asked me to answer a question, my voice didn’t shake. During a terrifying test, I got an A+. I realized I’d stopped checking for “Needs Improvement” comments — not because they’d disappeared, but because I finally saw my own potential under the guidance of Mr. H. I was so grateful to Mr. H, whose cheerful, positive and smiley faces could really make a difference in other people’s lives.
①举手:raise one’s hand/put up one’s hand
②回答:answer /reply to
③颤抖:shake/tremble
情绪类
①自信:confidence/self-assurance
②感激的:grateful/thankful

D.Public interest in trashion started spreading in the late 1990s.
E.It springs from a desire to make the best use of limited resources.
F.A talented trashion designer can see trash as something valuable.
G.Initially, trashion was used to describe costumes usually linked to fashion shows.

And then, the tiny orchid, Gastrochilus heminii, 57 (add) to the list as a data-absent species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, meaning more information to assess its risk of 58 (extinct).
The primrose species, another data-absent flora, grows on cliffs at an altitude of 3,400 meters. So far, scientists have only found one patch of this flower in the wild, making it 59 (exceptional) rare.
China owns some of the richest biodiversity in the world and has a relatively fine flora protection system, according to a white paper on China’s biodiversity protection.
The reasons for the wealth of many 60 (discovery) are new transportation infrastructure and technology enabling scientists to go deep into unmapped regions. The second reason is that as scientists’ understanding of taxonomy (分类学) deepens, some plants species 61 were found in the past were later reclassified as new species.

D.Public interest in trashion started spreading in the late 1990s.
E.It springs from a desire to make the best use of limited resources.
F.A talented trashion designer can see trash as something valuable.
G.Initially, trashion was used to describe costumes usually linked to fashion shows.

Scientists first discovered the two species in the Wolong National Nature Reserve in 2021. They later 56 (establish) that they were new orchid (兰花) and primrose (报春花) species.
The third reason is that China’s massive ecological restoration programs have helped a number of endangered species to reappear, which has 62 profound effect on ecology in China.
