教学目标

1. Knowledge and Skills

Vocabulary: Master the usage of key words (e.g., unexpected, backpack, oversleep, ring, stare, disbelief, above, burn, alive, airport, till, west) and phrases (e.g., wake up, go off, rush out, run all the way to, stare in disbelief at, turn into, show up).

Grammar: Understand and use the Past Progressive Tense (affirmative/negative forms, questions) to describe actions in progress in the past; grasp the combination of the Past Progressive Tense and the Simple Past Tense to express "an action in progress was interrupted by another sudden action".

Listening: Be able to catch specific information (e.g., time, events) from the listening materials (2a, 2b) and understand the main idea of the dialogue.

Speaking: Be able to talk about "unexpected events in the past" using the target language (e.g., "When I got up, my brother had already left home.").

Reading: Comprehend the structure of the narrative passage (2d) (introduction → development → climax → ending), grasp the main plot, and infer the author’s feelings.

2. Process and Methods

Through listening activities (prediction, gap-filling), develop students’ ability to obtain specific information.

By participating in pair work, group discussion and role-play, improve students’ oral communication skills and cooperative learning ability.

With the guidance of skimming and scanning strategies, help students master the method of understanding narrative passages.

学习活动(包含设计意图)

Step 1: Warming-up & Lead-in (5 minutes)

Activity 1: Daily Greeting & Free Talk (2 minutes)

Teacher greets students: "Good morning, class! How are you today? Did anything interesting or unexpected happen to you recently?"

Invite 2-3 students to share their experiences (e.g., "Yesterday, I overslept and almost late for school."). Teacher responds positively: "Oh, that’s really unexpected! Did you arrive at school on time finally?"

Activity 2: Picture & Video Presentation (3 minutes)

Show students 3 pictures on PPT: ① A boy rushing out of the house with an unzipped backpack; ② A clock showing 8:30 (while the school starts at 8:00); ③ People staring at a burning building in disbelief.

Ask questions: "What can you see in the pictures? Do you think these are

expected or unexpected events?"

Play a 30-second short video (a compilation of daily unexpected moments: e.g., a person’s coffee cup falling down when walking, a cat jumping onto the table and breaking a plate).

Guide students to summarize: "These are all unexpected events (write the phrase on the blackboard). Today, we will learn Unit 7 A Day to Remember, and talk about unexpected events in the past."

Design Intention:

The free talk connects English learning with students’ real life, reducing their anxiety and activating their prior knowledge.

Pictures and videos are intuitive and vivid, which can quickly attract students’ attention, arouse their interest in the topic, and naturally lead to the new unit.

Step 2: Presentation (10 minutes)

Activity 1: Pre-listening - Vocabulary Preview & Prediction (3 minutes)

Present 5 key words on PPT with pictures and phonetic symbols: oversleep (v.), backpack (n.), rush (v.), airport (n.), ring (v.). Teacher reads them aloud, and students repeat.

Explain the words simply: "If you oversleep, you get up later than usual. A backpack is a bag you carry on your back to school."

Show the picture of 2a (a boy looking worried, holding a clock). Ask: "Look at the picture. What do you think happened to him? Let’s predict: Did he oversleep? Did he miss the bus?" Write students’ predictions on the blackboard.

Activity 2: While-listening - 2a & 2b Tasks (5 minutes)

First Listening (2a): Tell students: "Now listen to the audio. Check (√) the events you hear. There are 6 events, and you need to find the ones mentioned."

Play the audio once. After listening, ask students to show their answers. Teacher checks and writes the correct events on the blackboard: ① overslept ③ missed the bus ④ ran to the bus stop ⑥ woke up late.

Second Listening (2b): Say: "Listen again. Fill in the blanks in 2b with the
